Title: What was your first cryptocurrency? Come share your story!
Post by: shanhaigamefi on February 23, 2024, 09:12:14 AM
;)Speaking of the first time, hey, that’s something I’ll never forget! The same goes for buying cryptocurrencies. When I buy it for the first time, I feel so excited that I feel like I have opened the door to a new world. The mood I felt at that time was simply more exciting than a novel.
However, after wandering around in the world of cryptocurrency for a long time, it is inevitable that you will be a little dazzled and confused by various temptations and fluctuations. But then again, truly smart people will not be fooled so easily. They are clear-headed and will carefully observe the changes in the market and will not be blinded by the superficial excitement. Unfortunately, there are not many such people. We ordinary people have to be leeks a few more times before we can learn some real skills and grow slowly in this cruel market. 8) 8) 8)

Since I've been here(Bitcointalk, and the broader industry) for a good while now, of course, it's Bitcoin!

And there's no special story around it. It's just me, and my hatred of the custodial service that is PayPal for pretty much taking my money for "damages". Hence why I got really interested in Bitcoin, and the rest is history.

Everyone has a story to tell both the successful ones and the decline ones all have it. And many started it with good capital while others struggled to start up and some are still struggling to meet up. All have story to tell. Many hear cryptocurrency in this forum while others heard it before coming to the forum. And buying not crypto, many are interested to buy they are afraid to invest in the new technology because they don't have enough knowledge about it. So to invest become a problem for them.

I was hearing about bitcoin before I came to this forum but was not having the basic knowledge of it and it was when I came here I acquired the knowledge of bitcoin fully. Therefore my full experience of bitcoin started from here. And many people have been in the system for a long time yet they don't understand the changes or the movement of bitcoin and they follow the prediction of others but have no data analysis on their own.

Before I was in a space that has given me a lot of insight into Bitcoin, I often heard about Bitcoin with all its advantages and conveniences for those who own it. After finding this forum, I started learning about Bitcoin from the basics to its advantages which make many people very interested in wanting to own it. Bitcoin is the first Cryptocurrency that I own, even though currently many other coins are starting to arrive to enliven competition in the Cryptocurrency market, Bitcoin remains the crypto asset that makes me feel the safest even though I keep it for a long time.

I am sure that most started with bitcoin. So, you are not the only one. :)

Yes, that's exactly it. The first acquaintance with cryptocurrencies and bitcoin in particular leaves an indelible impression for a lifetime. For me it felt like accomplishing a (personal) feat. :) It was as if I was able to look into hitherto inaccessible areas (in fact, that’s what happened).

Unfortunately, I am not one of those people. :) And as one of the ordinary people, I failed (more than once) while taking my first steps in cryptoindustry. Due to unsuccessful investments, bitcoin was partially lost.

Normally people always find out about Bitcoin and that's the first thing they acquire too. Then they find out about shitcoins and a smaller percentage of them fall for them and end up buying. That's because altcoins don't have enough "bling" to attract newcomers, but they can be attracted if they know about Bitcoin and then the advertisers fool them into thinking their shitcoin is on the same path and is in early stages (so they can get in early and make a big profit).

Take big shitcoins for example.
You can't tell a newbie there is this cryptocurrency called XRP that is completely centralized and the company decides the supply, can seize your money and freeze your account, and has no usages. Come up and buy it!!!
Or you can't tell them there is this other cryptocurrency called ETH that has a massive premine and is centralized where the company decides to roll back block and you may lose your money that way. It also has no usage but to create scam projects known as "tokens".
and so on.
These things don't interest anyone who doesn't already know about cryptocurrencies (ie doesn't know about Bitcoin).

But someone who already knows about Bitcoin, has seen the rise and the potential, knows the utility Bitcoin offers as the only existing decentralized money, etc. can be fooled into thinking shitcoins like XRP, ETH, BNB, SOL, DOGE, ... are "useful" with potential of making a lot of profit.

Obviously it is with Bitcoin. I am so noob to it because it's a new thing that I have heard. I didn't thought to buy as a whole and I just want to test the waters because during that time, you'd hear a lot of taboo and bad impressions about it. You name it, like being used by criminals, for drugs, money laundering, etc. But that didn't stopped me in knowing more about it. And because of various cryptocurrencies that can be found in the market now, it's always been Bitcoin that's the face of this industry. Whenever you're going to talk to someone and start a topic about cryptocurrencies, they will for sure going to ask and tell you about Bitcoin even if they don't have it and chosen to get into another altcoin.

Most people were here because they care about bitcoin and discover this platform from their search or quest to know more about bitcoin, so as by default, i expect everyone here being a member to at least be able to afford having the least amount of bitcoin they are holding even though they may as well include other crypto portfolios, bitcoin should be the first and major, if others will follow, just as we expect that the reason for everyone joining here is bitcoin.

Just so you know, this very post will serve as reference in case you come up with another thread again that you don't know about crypto or haven't invested in it before. Well, I think my own experience is different from others reading through the replies under this post. I can't really remember the exact cryptocurrency I first invested in for now. The only thing I remember right now is that I invested in random coins simultaneously back then and of course, Bitcoin was part of them despite the capital wasn't much like that. The truth is that I have no single idea of what I was doing by then but obviously act on influence from one thing or the other. Funds were really wasted but the good thing about it was the experience gained.

Me, like many others here, invested in Bitcoin before even knowing about other cryptos. When I started reading and posting in this forum I knew about the ethereum network, due to the hype on ICOs, and diversified my portfolio (more than I would have liked, in retrospect).

Tron, Binance Chain... are more of the same, so I'm sticking to the first crypto I knew and owned, which is Bitcoin, and I'm happy enough doing it that way. No hope in 100x potential coins anymore, with a few exceptions.

Well, absolutely bitcoin is my first cryptocurrency and to a further extend it is the only crypto that I considered as an investment for some reasons which I don't know what exactly, probably the proven coin and when learning more I understands that it is the only crypto that has actual decentralization and not slipping away from why it was created.

Surely making money with altcoins is possible and people bagged unexpected profits the alt-seson of 2018 and recently the memecoin craze still going on but I just made a decision and trying to go in that path.

Bitcoin was my first.  And I am VERY proud of it.  I would dread my history had I started by wasting my time and money with Shit Coins to only end up in a very tough life lesson.

I would recommend any body to begin with Bitcoin.  There is truly no thing you can regret about that.  You get a glimpse of what is going on and you learn the most IMPORTANT things.  You get used to a truly Free and truly Decentralized Cryptocurrency.  Then if you see the other Cryptocurrencies you will realize very quickly that they are not the same thing and do not provide the same feeling of safety Bitcoin does.

The other way around is much different.  Getting into Altcoins first is a big mistake.  You will likely be infected with this virus of never purchasing Bitcoin but purchasing ALL sorts of Shit Coins instead.  Only to realize much later on that your investments are going to hell while Bitcoin continues to provide enormous financial benefits to every real holder.

When I got into the crypto scene around 2013/2014, Bitcoin was too expensive for me personally (from today's perspective, this was of course a complete misjudgement). That's why I initially focused more on altcoins, so my first coins were Litecoin, Namecoin, Freicoin and Devcoin. All of them still exist, but apart from Litecoin, the others basically no longer play a role. I only came to Bitcoin after a while, when I realized that the price I thought was too high in 2013 was actually still far too low seen in the bigger context :) I then bought my first bitcoins at low prices around $100-150.

What was your first cryptocurrency? Come share your story!
Of course Bitcoin, I got to know Bitcoin in 2016, at that time I had not registered here as a member, in 2018 I tried to register and until now.
A brief History.
I found out about Bitcoin via the internet/google, in the past I didn't really believe in cryptocurrencies, at that time there weren't as many Bitcoin users as there are now, it took me two years to search and learn about cryptocurrencies/Bitcoins in real life, After I understood and saw them making real transactions, I believed them and I registered here as I said above, As time goes by, I understand and really understand how Bitcoin actually works until now and I try to trade, invest and so on, that's my brief about crypto currency.

The point is: if you are really serious about the first crypto currency you are introduced to, I am sure you will be successful and really understand the crypto you are learning.

If I am not wrong, My first crypto was Bitcoin. There was a website named freebitco.in (still does) and I was able to claim the faucet every hour. This was my first crypto experience I guess. I could be wrong because I have also experienced some websites without even understanding that it's a cryptocurrency website and it's money.

I remember building a website with xtgem web builder and a adnetwork used to pay in Bitcoin as well. Ah, those old days! I am sure that Bitcoin was my first crypto. But I could be wrong with the freebitco.in because I may used another website before this one.

I won't dive into the topic about my success and failure but I will share the first crypto I owned back when I started in crypto. The first crypto that I owned is ETH which is because I joined bounty campaigns before when ICO was a trend back then. The second is BTC and then the altcoins I earned during the ICO which I did earn money from it until I no longer joined ICOs later on because it was no longer a trend and won't have a good outcome to the forum which you can say that joining ICO back then only resulted in spam and low quality posts.

Well, the forum itself is named BITCOINtalk.org which means that the first cryptocurrency that people would receive would most likely be BTC.

To share my story, I remember back in 2017 when I first heard about BTC. I was literally confused at first and I also considered this as a scam because I thought this is a glorified name for a new m2m scam which was prominent during that year. But when I read threads about people sharing their investments, it made be believe that there is an unexploited opportunity behind this forum.

When I first received my BTCs back in participating in campaign signatures, I was definitely happy and ecstatic. Knowing that I have the opportunity to earn investments online with my hard-work gave me that inspiration to share my story to others as well.

However, after wandering around in the world of cryptocurrency for a long time, it is inevitable that you will be a little dazzled and confused by various temptations and fluctuations. But then again, truly smart people will not be fooled so easily.
I will not say I was not easy to fool, I was just lucky that I had someone to guide me, first leading me to this forum, then helping me when needed. I did not make the mistake of investing in some altcoin that later turned out to be a scam, my first investment was in bitcoins. And because I do not always like to learn from my own experience, I'm quick to learn from the experience of other people and from this forum, I learned that investment in other coins aside bitcoins can be quite dangerous and not give the outcome of making profit that you the investor desire.

I don't lose much money on investments because I have guidance, and I've made a profit. If I didn't have anyone to help me, I'm sure I'd lose a lot of money, which is why you should get guidance if you want to start anything, so that you don't make mistakes when investing or doing other things. If you invest in another coin, you can make a profit, but losing it will be very painful. That is why bitcoin is the best because even if you invest in bitcoin, the price will not fall so far that you will lose too much money, and if you leave it, the price will rise again and you will be profitable without losing anything. However if you invest in another coin, it will be extremely difficult to recover your cash if you lose it. It will take you a very long time to recover your capital let alone profit, if you want to reduce your risk, simply invest in bitcoin.

I know the feeling, the first cryptocurrency you own can make you feel like you've belonged to a new elite people that owns a special digital currency, something quite rare and special. The first crypto that I owned was obviously Bitcoin, and it was gifted to me, I really treasured it and I'll just open my wallet, just to see how it's price is fluctuating. I guess majority of crypto holders started with Bitcoin because it's the most popular and most recommended of all the cryptos. Some can be unlucky in their first experience and they'll be introduced to some new scam project, these are people who will label all the cryptocurrencies in the market as scam because of their experience, except a knowledgeable person in crypto tells them the difference between a legit and scam projects.

Like most of the veterans my first crypto was indeed Bitcoin and then I started making further investments with the profits and I don't used to do trading it was investment and when the value increases I will withdraw that profit and reinvest it into ETH while the initial capital will remain in BTC itself. The coin which gave me the most success in terms of profit was Ripple, Best season to earn was during the ICO I mean initial days of ICO where we used to get goo d rewards even on bounty campaigns and those coins used to reach exchanges unlike now.

To be honest I totally forgot I am thinking its bitcoin but Im not sure actually since my goal when I came to foeum was to earn from bounty before and might probably earned or acquired some tokens or maybe eth cause that time it was used as gas fee. Time fliges very fast before it was eth only but now there are lots of L2 on the line up. Well thats the story. In the end still forgotten the first one I had.

You know, when I read stuff about how truly smart folks can work the market, I gotta wonder - can't we all get better at keeping a level head and watching carefully? I don't think it takes a genius not to get fooled.  Maybe the cruelty people talk about comes more from trying to make a quick buck instead of slowly getting to know the game.
At least worth talking about, right?

What are you talking about? All in the name of trashing the guy you said something very wrong, the most lucrative return of investment that I've saw since 2022 was from gaming projects, you need the names? Here you go, GFal, Beam, Lit Lab, Myria, I've made from 8x to 12x from these gamefi projects, and lesser from shrapnel and Bigtime.

Your point isn't making sense, look into these gamefi projects and see their lows in 2022 and 2023, they are mostly in profits, there are others too that are doing so well but I don't have them.

I have heard about gamefi tokens having bad tokenomics but they still did very well in the last bull market, Axie infinity did over 1000x and Gala surge from lows of $0.004- 0.006 to $0.80, who are you kidding but yourself, all every smart investors need to do is get in the lows and get out when the tokens surge higher.

I mined ALL the shitcoins I could trade and converted them to BTC

I got to know about Bitcoin somewhere around early 2011. I was curious enough to start some mining with a middle class graphic card and it didn't take too long to have mined "my own full first" Bitcoin and little more. But FPGAs and later ASICs took over the mining reign and mining Bitcoin with graphic cards wasn't really effective anymore. Anyway, I didn't want to miss the fun and excitement of mining back then.

As for other cryptocurrencies I look at them but mostly ignore or have no personal use-case. I don't care about shitcoins and shittokens. Premined ETH, thanks, I'll pass and don't want to support it. I acknowledge Monero for its privacy centric approach.

I'm busy enough to learn and deal with the ins and outs of Bitcoin alone. I'm fine with that.

My first cryptocurrency, which I personally experience, is Bitcoin. At the beginning of my journey, when I heard about Bitcoin I took an interest in it and started researching about it but soon as I found some chapta sites And started earning some satoshi on solving capta from them, I also I found some real sites like free-bitco.com and started earning satoshi from them. And long story short, i collected these clamied satoshies and deposited them in the exchange, and started trading on them, but due to inexperience or bad luck, he did not earn much profit. And after that, after doing more research and gaining knowledge, I reached this forum, and the story ended. Haha, how did you like my journey with the first cryptocurrency?

Bitcoin was the first currency I ever bought and traded.
When Bitcoin was still priced at less than $1k I started buying it on my local exchange. Maybe had about 1-2 Bitcoins at that time to trade, until I finally got to know other coins like Ethereum etc. I didn't do much, just try to learn how to trade and make a little profit with Bitcoin. But I didn't hold for the long term back then, just bought and then sold.

I remember my first coin that I bought and it was not bitcoin unfortunately. it was BNB Actually the time I bought it was at almost $16 usdt and It did go upto $30 usdt and I sold My BNB. I was so happy that day that it can't be explained that how happy I was. as time went by, after 3 days I check the price of BNB it was at $300 usdt. I was really disappointed that why didn't I hold it.

There is one weakness among new traders that is called FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). That is exactly what happened to me at that time. I sold it because my investment had become double that time so I did not want to lose that profit at that time. But it is okay. Now I have learned A lot about the market and have a huge understanding of cryptocurrency markets.

Well, That was mine. Hope to hear a lot of stories like this in here.

That's what I experienced when I first got Bitcoin. It feels like you are in another world. The story of the first introduction may differ between us but the feelings felt do not seem to be different for all of us. Except it wasn't the first Bitcoin I had, so there's a different experience story.

This forum was the first door I got to know Bitcoin until I was at this stage where I was still trying to explore everything I didn't know about Bitcoin and all types of altcoins, although I didn't focus on all of them.
I can say that Bitcoin is the perfect coin and currency for me, so my knowledge will not be perfect if I don't try to find out about other things, such as why people continue to hunt for altcoins and shitcoins and why many people are still so interested in altcoin trading even though they already know the risks of trading with altcoins, the future potential of altcoins.

Re: What was your first cryptocurrency? Come share your story!
My story could be interesting but not actually exciting. It is full of regrets and disappointment but a great lesson I learnt from my experience.
My first contact with bitcoin was just for means to make payment to scammers. The person that introduced me to bitcoin helped me download Blockchain and bought my first bitcoin for about $1510 which gave me close to 0.2 BTC then. I used it to make payment and later I realised it was a scam.

Later on the person that introduced me to the scam asked me to buy some shitcoins then that I will become a millionaire during the bull run. I told him I wanted to buy the bitcoin which they used to scam me because I noticed that my money grew from $1510 to $1515 before I sent it to the scammer. He said bitcoin is too expensive that I should buy the ones he recommended. The rest is a history how my money all vanished.

To cut a long story short, my first crypto was Bitcoin and it was earned here. That was in 2017. It was $1 for a little task a user here asked interested members to do for them. I won't be surprised to find that $1 worth over $30 now.

That's some huge cash now. Looking at the current value of Bitcoin, that's over $12k. I know remembering all that hurts but then it's a lesson learned. That's the way I see it. I've been there too. Each time I remember mine, I laugh at my naivety.

That's a circle. In every circle, there are people who will make that mistake. I did in 2017. It was a crazy moment (bull rallies are, of course). The market tends to lose its senses during a bull rally. Every crypto seems to become alluring. One would think every investment would be a hit. There were tokens I bought that did well but I didn't take profit and they later dumped and dumped heavily. That's what happens in the crypto space. I hope many newbies here won't make that mistake of becoming overtly ambitious and greedy. Those who will, will eventually end up being the prey for the cashout.

Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency that I heard of, but it wasn't the first cryptocurrency that I got.

When I was still starting here in the forum, I was lucky to join a signature campaign (altcoin paid), and while I'm posting here, I'm also learning and at the same time earning (through bounty campaigns). The first signature campaign that I joined was a project called "Paycent" where their bounty campaign became a success, and luckily they paid us on our Ethereum wallet. When it got listed on an exchange, I sold it immediately because, at that time, I already knew how to sell tokens.

Well, after that, I bought Bitcoin using my own money, and that's the first and last time that I will use my own money to buy Bitcoin. I'm just happy that this forum was introduced to me. I learned something new, and it opened another opportunity for me to earn as well.

;)Speaking of the first time, hey, that’s something I’ll never forget!
My first cryptocurrency was a doge coin. I was introduced to the coin after all the hype by people around cryptocurrency world, but till I sold mine, I never gain any profit from the coin maybe it is because it was during bear market and I can’t differentiate between the two of them.
After that, any coin I buy do dump and I stopped buying altcoin until I get used to the forum and know how the market works. After knowing something about it, I keep myself to Bitcoin investment through DCA method as I am glad I have some fractions of Bitcoin.

Learning about the crypto market should not be that hard for us if we know how to go about things that would help us to learn more from the market. There are people that far still looking for ways to go about there learning of crypto but they don't have the knowledge that everything can be learnt online by subscribing to some channels on YouTube where we could learn very without much pressure of paying for content.
