My friend gave me a wallet.dat file that was on his old computer. His computer was burnt, but the disk is still alive with the wallet.dat file on it. The file was transferred to my personal computer, but there is a problem.

Some people have told me that the wallet.dat file is corrupted.

Are these people telling the truth?

The people who say how much is in the wallet claim there is 689 BTC.

How do they know how much there is? The transactions that my friend made appear with the date 1970.1.1.

Seems like another guy who found a leaked wallet.dat on Torrent or something and is trying to find ways to get access to it. It's not gonna happen mate, good luck though.

I read many stories like this and looks like it is a scam. Like scammers can sell fake wallet files and get money while the buyers will have nothing.

Hmm, so many comments and an interesting story, some concerns as usual. I need hundreds of Bitcoins can I find them in old .dat files ahh, maybe may not be. The question here is from where I got it, as your friend gave it you, you do really think he hasn't tried to recover it?

At the same time why anyone would give you such a lottery file even if it's useless there's hope and greed for everyone. If you find any solution make sure to drop 1 BTC for the top 20 posts in the answer to so many concerns haha, it would be nice.
