Title: hello everyone
Post by: bad man on March 01, 2024, 05:37:00 PM
My friend gave me a wallet.dat file that was on his old computer. His computer was burnt, but the disk is still alive with the wallet.dat file on it. The file was transferred to my personal computer, but there is a problem.

Some people have told me that the wallet.dat file is corrupted.

Are these people telling the truth?

The people who say how much is in the wallet claim there is 689 BTC.

How do they know how much there is? The transactions that my friend made appear with the date 1970.1.1.

I really don't know what that is; I'm not into BTC or trading.

The important thing is, my friend said whoever can solve this problem will be given 12 BTC as a reward.

open wallet.dat in a text editor, like notepad.. wallet files are not complicated files
.. should be viewable with eyes if its readable

Seems like another guy who found a leaked wallet.dat on Torrent or something and is trying to find ways to get access to it. It's not gonna happen mate, good luck though.
That's not how it works. And your story is so freaking bad and It made me laugh at the same time.

Yes, this proves you don't know nothing and that 689 BTC story is just bad just like your name.

Why would someone give you his wallet instead of recovering it on his own on another PC?

but there is a problem.

of course there is

Which people? Did they also have access to the wallet.dat file?

Where do you see that?

Whoever solves that "problem" will have full access to the funds on the wallet. Why would he settle for "only" a 12 BTC reward?

It seems like the wallet.dat file may be corrupted, as indicated by the error message. The 1970.1.1 date suggests a timestamp issue, possibly a result of corruption. As for the error message, it's indicating difficulty reading the file, and the rescanning process may not fully resolve the issue

I'm sorry, but I've got to ask these questions even though I may not get answers to them.

What exactly is the topic of your post " Hello everyone"? And secondly, who gets 12 BTC, the person who solves what's causing the problem on the forum or the person who can recover the 689 BTC?

If this isn't some kind of riddle, and it happens to be a real-life situation, then I'll first say that a burnt computer with a hard disk that is still functioning is really remarkable. I can assume that's how you were able to find the wallet.dat, and now that you've found something that valuable, there's a high probability that it's corrupted and inaccessible. That's sad.

Now, how old exactly is your friend to have his last transaction in 1970? I really got confused with this one and I went on to research it. Turns out, that particular day 1970.1.1 is known as the Unix epoch. When wallet software encounters corrupted and uninitialized timestamps, they automatically lead to the Unix epoch.

You failed to mention who the people giving you information about your friend's computers are. But in case you don't want to trust them, there may actually be no need to trust them. Let me remind you that wallet.dat has private keys and you can easily access the Bitcoin in connection to your friend's BTC address. This seems like a fair solution, doesn't it? Try gaining the private keys and transfer the BTC into another newly opened wallet.

we cannot be sure if they are telling the truth or not, but its either of the ways that that may be telling the truth or not, you can also be at risk if the file was intended on aiming an attack on you, you need to be more vigilant in this before they got you hacked down including that your friend.

The people who say how much is in the wallet claim there is 689 BTC.

How do they know how much there is?

we cannot also say the reason why they know this, maybe through the wallet address, they can track it on the blockchain in knowing the amount on it and it may be that they are just lying on you since you're a novice and don't know how to verify.

The important thing is, my friend said whoever can solve this problem will be given 12 BTC as a reward.

How did your own friend also got into this, we need to ask him, maybe the wallet does not belong to him, or he is trying to hack you at the cause, if he has the keys to the wallet, then he should be able to have access to the wallet irrespective of how corrupt the wallet data file is.

Your story sounds like you bought this wallet.dat, people who do this always make up their story like they actually own the wallet and they need help in decrypting it, if that is the case here, then you have been scammed and there is no way you can decrypt it. You cannot earn BTC in this way and you are wasting your time and that of everyone with this, look for legitimate means of getting yourself BTC's.

The story seems to be that Bitcoin will be rescued with the help of a third party. Because the person who kept it must have kept the key to make this wallet alive. You are right it can be a dramatic story.

Try this.
Bitcoin Wallet Recovery Services - for forgotten wallet password (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=240779.0)
http://walletrecoveryservices.com/

If you can not solve this problem. Make some copies of the wallet file. Use one of copies for the third party recovery service, if you and your friend afford to pay the service fee.

I read many stories like this and looks like it is a scam. Like scammers can sell fake wallet files and get money while the buyers will have nothing.

Op, I'm sorry, but this story you're telling here on the topic you made is too suspicious. 689 bitcoins is big for the price we have now in the market. What sane person in this day and age would trust 689bitcoins in such a situation? is there

Then they will give 12 bitcoins as a reward; the size is still the same, and maybe later on, the person who helps will become even more corrupt. it seems that you are more suspicious to me
actually, sorry this is may assessment to you op.

Hmm, so many comments and an interesting story, some concerns as usual. I need hundreds of Bitcoins can I find them in old .dat files ahh, maybe may not be. The question here is from where I got it, as your friend gave it you, you do really think he hasn't tried to recover it?

At the same time why anyone would give you such a lottery file even if it's useless there's hope and greed for everyone. If you find any solution make sure to drop 1 BTC for the top 20 posts in the answer to so many concerns haha, it would be nice.
