Suspended Senator Ningi Resigns

Senator Abdul Ningi has resigned his position as the chairman of the Northern Senators Forum (NSF).

This comes barely an hour after Ningi was suspended for three months for alleging that the 2024 budget had been padded with illegal projects worth over N3 trillion.

Earlier, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim moved the motion for Ningi’s suspension for 12 months over allegations of criminal misinformation and breach of peace in the National Assembly and the country by extension.

But Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong moved for the amendment of the motion by Ibrahim.

Ekpenyong, who is from Cross River South Senatorial District; and Senator Abdulfatai Buhari from Oyo North prayed for the reduction of the suspension to six and three months respectively.

Akpabio, who described Ningi’s offences as “grievous”, conducted a voice vote during which most of the lawmakers voted in support of Ningi’s suspension for three months.

In an interview, Ningi had claimed that the Federal Government is operating two versions of the 2024 budget and that the N28.7 trillion Budget passed and signed into law by President Bola Tinubu was skewed against the north.

Is it necessary to post this here? We(Nigerians) have their local board for this kind of post to be made.
I would suggest this post move there, to have a better view and discussions on the subject head post

Your suggestion is noted and I really appreciate it. However, I think it's also good for other people to see the mindset of the kind of people we have as leaders.

Anyway, to respond to what you have posted. There is nothing new to what Ningi has exposed. It is the ongoing endemic corruption that is happening in the senate every budget year. The senators are not there for the masses but for self benefit. There is minimum wage being discussed but they are padding to steal money that they want to share 500,000,000 naira for each senator which is about $335,000.

There is much to that but you have to move this to the local board for more robust contributions.

It is really unfortunate to have those who called them self leaders, who are only interested in stealing of public funds
It is very sad that those who the poor masses have sent to represents them are the once killing them
In a country where the cost of living is on the rise , poverty on it peak and where everyone in the country lives in darkness because the government has refused to provide electricity for them that leaders are still padding the countries budget so they can benefit from it
It very unfortunate

That is correct though it deeply embarrassing seeing all this kind of mess coming from our leaders always but discussing it in the naija board stand the best.

For others to see the mindset of our leaders right? What will that change? Exposing the bad happening in your country to make it a laughing stock is unpatriotic. Every country is suffering from leadership problem and Nigeria is not an exception. What Ningi did deserves serious punishment than mere suspension. Budget padding has become a norm in our assembly chambers long before now and you can not just make allegations without fact and evidence to back it up. There's no case where there's no evidence. Ningi failed to defend the allegations he came up with and he's paying the price.

I have read another version of this same story in a different thread but the problem remains the same, this one was exposed may be because he does not belong to their cartel or his is it loyal to them, this has always been the case.
Nigeria is suffering from the mismanagement and corruption emanating from this so called leaders that doesn't have conscience, how will a man pad such amount of money in a budget and ordinary Nigerian are suffering in the street.
I think what will put a stop to some of this excesses by our leaders is to put a law that prohibit this actions with a strict punishment like beheading or hanging and this should be done without any favouritism.
