The cost of things has gone up so much so that it's glaring. Imagine paying 5-12$ for an average meal you could get before for 3$. The jump cost is extremely high. Cooking a meal at home can cost you the same amount you would spend on eating in a restaurant. Funny enough people still afford all these things without complaining. My anger is that we make money to spend it all into our normal life expenses. It's difficult now to save or invest unless you part of the rich people in society. An average man has to just eat, pay bills, and survive.

The cost of living is increasing day by day, and as a result, the world experiences inflation and a bad economy. The currencies are losing value, which means their purchasing power is decreasing.
 
What $1 could be able to purchase before is no longer the same thing that it can buy today in the market, so you don't expect them to sell food at the same price they were selling it when the price of the good used to process was a bit lower. 
 
I know a lot of restaurants might take advantage of the price of things and raise their price to the highest to make the most out of it, but if you check it very well, they have other bills to pay, staff rent, utilities, and even tax, and they need to have something they will run back to and the rest of them. 
 
You always have your house to run back to, and you can get your own food if you are not financially comfortable with the way they sell things in the restaurant. Buy things and prepare yourself so that you don't need to pay for those extra funds, which you can save for other things. A restaurant is for fast food, and it's for those who either don't have time to cook for themselves or are far from home.

In my part of the world atleast, people have stopped spending. They are buying the basic necessity and ignoring the rest. There's inflation on everything and the market has been on a depression. There are no crowds in shops and malls. Businesses are closing. Real estate prices are high and haven't decreased but there's no one buying. Even people who have money aren't spending and are saving. The stock market is slow, there's no bull or bear but the confidence is low. People are not buying stocks.
Banks are decreasing their interest rate as liquidity rises. But there are not enough people willing to take loans even on low interest rate. Not sure how long this trend would remain or we are in this situation for ever but most people are barely surviving on salaries and pensions.

I don't know where you're from, but from where I'm writing a good chunk of the people are working day and night just to survive. That doesn't just mean eating; that means eating instant noodles, fried fish, and other cheap food. That also doesn't just mean staying; that means staying in a small and hot room.

That makes me angry, but what makes me angrier, and deeply troubled as well, is the fact that these people have surrendered everything to the reality. They seem to have fully embraced the life that fate has assigned them. They seem to have no other definition of life outside the kind of life they're living in.

Anyway, if cooking a meal at home costs you as high as eating at a restaurant, I guess that's less hassle for you. Or better yet, it might help if you produce at least a little of your own food.

The people who are employed can still spend money on fast food like McDonalds but many already started to cut back.

Right now most of the time I am McDonald’s it’s fairly empty, a few years back it was always busy. You also get coupons sent to you most frequently which only means they get less business.

Are you sure cooking a meal at home can cost the same amount as eating at a restaurant, even with the same menu? How do restaurants make a profit then? My experience is that cooking at home is less expensive than a restaurant because I don't have to pay for staff salaries, rent, taxes, etc. It's mainly the cost of food and some electricity or gas.

It is really funny but truth goods have skyrocketed to the extent people are afraidto feed . When ever you go out to buy things in the market you become angry at your self because you don even know where to start because of how expensive food stuff has become. Sometimes I start questioning my self, that is this how we are going to train our children? I start thinking that our parents were lucky to have given birth to us when things were chip. The restaurant issues no doubt about that, because couples of time I have gone to the restaurant and the price of food there is almost thesame as the one to prepare at home so there is no difference anymore. The only difference is that in a restaurant you eat a plate but at home after the one you dished, you still have extra.

And because of this singular price hike has made people not being able to save money, saving money is now a war it only takes deligent to save money.

Complaining is possible but what will they get after complaining?

Can they change their governments and central banks?
Can they find any way to improve their national economics, first by themselves if they are in charged of governments and central banks?

For chronic problems in a nation, you can complain but it's really hard to actually change it and make it better.

So you must focus on yourself, work hard, earn more and use your money to invest such as in Bitcoin.

What we face is a typical example of hyperinflation, and sadly, our governments are dummies, they are just clueless but using a "try-by-error approach." You can imagine that the cost of sugar alone among other things skyrocketed more than x10 in just 2 years and a few months. It is that bad.

I strongly disagree with you on this. There is nothing as cost-effective as cooking at home, it is better than eating out at a restaurant. It is practical, my friend and those restaurants selling to you will buy the raw materials just like you can buy and prepare them for you. And of course, they will serve you what will make them gain and not lose. But preparing it at home will help you get the food prepared and still enjoy the value the restaurant would have gained from you in addition. At times, depending on the food, by cooking yourself in my country, you may be saving yourself between 4-7 times, if not more.

As for people affording it, it can't be easy but they have no choice. And just like I wrote a while ago, inflation doesn't automatically translate to economic hardship because the economy may still be booming even with the inflation, only that you pay more for what you get. So, if you are gainfully employed, you might be painstakingly paying more and this may force you to save less since you have to continue living. This means that the situation is bitting but people just don't have a choice.

That's the anger bro, it is difficult and will never encourage savings. Nonetheless, the rich are also lamenting in my country now because they are spending multiples more than what they spent before. There is no way they will not also feel it especially if their earnings are not increasing but expenses increase by about over 7 times in less than 3 years.

I think you're from third world countries, where it's nothing new there are a lot poor people and live from paycheck to paycheck. You have few options, either stay in your country and get less salary, move to developed country or learn very hard about how income skill that you can work anywhere.

You weren’t supposed to get angry, but happy. The reason I said so is because some still live without being able to afford food for themselves and their family members. This has gone a long way. You can think of many people who have died because of hunger in many countries, but when you also have the chance to eat, it is also enough for you to be happy, not sad. because almost all your money has gone to the normal living experience. Although in this type of situation, investment is good, when you find it hard to do everything, everything changes. They're complaining but just not with prices. I've also seen a lot of people complain about how wages aren't exactly keeping up with inflation. You can technically grow with the times by finding a better job with a better salary, but with how things go, it's rather risky to leave your current job to find a better one in the current state already. Being an average person has always been to your disadvantage regardless of how you look at it. The reason is simple inflation reduced the purchasing power of the Fiat money so we are paying more to buy the same product that costed less in the previous year. And why we can't save is different and it's due to change in the dynamics of consumerism and people influenced by people to spend more and the concept of saving money, thinking about future decreased to extreme.

While I do understand the whole point of working hard and then seems not enough with how things and prices have gone up now. We're not rich yet but as someone who's investing and believing on this market, I know that we're going to make it there.

But as we wait for that time to come, we have to do whatever it takes for us to survive. It's not just enough to cut and lessen your expenses but one solution is to educate yourself about finances and also increase your source of income.

We still have to struggle to save money no matter how small it is. Saving is an important part of life since we cannot predict the future. We have to always seek ways to cut expenses so that we can have the means of saving. If it will take seeking an alternative source of income to get extra money we should do it. We can save some money to start a business which would be another income source. For some people owning a house will help them cut some expenses so they have to save to buy or build their residence. I know it is not easy, but we have to still strive to keep some funds aside for investment.


I appreciate this uncommon nutritional advice. Most of these restaurants or fast food don't care about the well-being of people all they are focused on is maximizing profit. They will prefer to buy genetically modified crops which are cheap than going for natural food. There have been reports from some health practitioners that these artificial plants have adverse effects on the help of people. We shouldn't always focus on the taste of the food but on how healthy it is for the body. Like you said fruits and vegetables should always be part of our diets. People who have vacant lands could also think of planting some simple crops like vegetables, which could be of help to them.

Not only the price of food but now the price of almost every other product needed to survive has doubled from two to three years ago. Especially since the covid-19 pandemic. The price of daily necessities is increasing and there is no way to reduce it. Among them, inflation is going extremely high in my country, two years ago USDT price was around 90BDT and now it has increased to 120BDT. All in all, it has become very difficult to make a living for the general population of third-world developing countries. Moreover, if we talk about medicine, if a person from a middle class family goes to spend for treatment, now there is no money for food, there can be no talk of savings.

The prices and inflation are different in different regions, so not everyone might be able to relate to the op. In my country, the prices changed dramatically (around 1.7x, I'd say) in 2022, and then a little more in 2023. So generally, goods are now worth twice as much as they used to be a little over 2 years ago. But the restaurant prices changed accordingly, so cooking at home is still way less expensive than eating out. In my country, a lot of people actually can't afford all these things and poverty grew significantly, but since the reason of the price changes is much bigger than the price changes (the reason is war), people naturally don't complain much.

Even if they complain, they don't have a solution to it, so it is better if they work hard and get what they want. If not, it is easy for everyone out there to look for a way to meet their needs. Although I don't know if in your side it food is only that costs, in my side everything has doubled in price, but I can say all this is because of inflation. Everything is expensive. Since these two things are done when you are financially okay and since people are looking for ways to eat their daily food, you can see that they won't think of investing or saving money. 

We're all living to survive and if there are people that have been spending and not thinking about tomorrow because they are right, no one really knows what tomorrow will be. As much as we want to have some decent meal that's going to satisfy us and it's like a reward to ourselves, there are times that we can't do it anymore because we feel that we're cheated by the inflation and while wages don't increase a lot, it's being beaten it and all we have to do is to tighten our pockets.  :-\

I don't agree with the fact that we can spend the same amount on meals at home that we spend at restaurants. Because making things at home is mostly in bulk quantity and we know that things made in bulk are always cheap in compared to the ones we eat in restaurants. I don't know where do you live and what are the economical situation in your country but IMO that's not right to say. Besides that, I do agree with the fact that things are expensive nowadays.

Let me share a story with you, once I was buying vegetables from a shop, and some other stuff for dinner, and there was an old man standing there and started to say, you are spending a lot of money on this stuff and without any hesitation. I then thought two things first, if I wouldn't spend the money then how I am supposed to make dinner, second I thought for that old man the money might be a big amount because they have seen a time where they buy more with less money and now the same amount of money is being spend for lesser things. So when this happens in front of them it gives them flashbacks. So I ignored his statement at the moment as nothing can be done, if prices are high then salaries  as well. Please note that I am talking about the salaries not the value of money we are earning.

If at this height of economic hardship with a sustainable inflation rise and a laying-off of workers by some companies resulting to many employed, and in all of this happening right now in the world and you're lucky to find yourself in a position you're able to fend for your family, pay bills and surviving it all then you should not think you are not rich. Being rich isn't just about owning multibillion properties and investments, being rich should be a subjected issue to the individual. As there are still people that have what you may call wealth to you but for then they still feel poor.

The thing about high inflation is that, you are going to be able to afford something in the future that you can't afford right now, but if you wait then you can't. What I mean is that, lets assume that there is a thing that costs 100 dollars, and your salary is 1000 dollars, but you do not want to spend it because it is 10% of your salary and you will not be able to pay it.

What you do is, you make 100 dollars debt, and in 1 year the thing that you wanted to buy becomes 200 dollars, and your salary becomes 2000 dollars. Now, if you didn't buy it, it is still 10% of your salary, but if you did then it is 5% of your current salary, your debt will be paid. So people buy things with todays price, to pay for it with tomorrows salary.

I definitely agree that some people are willing to pay far too much for stuff these days, it often seems to be driven either by laziness or lack of shopping around. However you can turn this to your advantage with just a little bit of research and investment, instead of getting angry at how society works - just start harnessing it instead to your advantage. Yeah right, almost everything is now expensive. Even candy or a bottle of water is already heavy in the pocket but we keep buying because it is one of the things we need in life. It's the same today, even though the goods are expensive, we keep buying because we have no choice. Today, everyone really only works to buy the necessities of life, and sometimes they can't do other things that are also important to do like saving and investing, they don't think about that anymore because the what's important to them is that they have the needs of everyday life.

I mean we could clearly notice these high prices on every product in the market, I remember having around 10$ on a grocery and it feels like 10$ which is around 500Pesos here in my country is already a big deal, you could budget it somehow even though it was still a small amount of money but you could survive with it probably within a week with the right budgeting but right now it was just impossible your gonna need around 40$-100$ just to make it until next week.

The bottomline these things are just inevitable and there was really nothing that we can do about it, its inflation the government is just keeps in printing unlimited money, with that supply and demand of fiat money we could easily say that we are just slaves of this system, but country are being run by the government so there was nothing we can do completely to change this system.

The best thing that we can do about it is to adapt to it, we need to budget, learn how to manage our finances, be wise, have a financial foundation, have investments, etc. I understand that things are just over a price right now but if we are talking about needs there was no choice but to adapt to it , because its our basic need and we cant survive if we dont buy these things, but we could still do things to budget and go on some alternatives, I mean cooking at home on me do the trick, those restaurants just had a mark up around 300% of the food that you buy if you cook at home you have the choice of making it healthy and you could cook more than the serving on restaurants.

Were just gonna go back to investing and managing our finances, dont buy things that you could afford, have multiple income streams, have financial foundations, etc. It's not going to be easy for sure but we gonna need to do the hard work in order to survive, the world is cruel and not fair but we are living on it, we just doesnt have a choice so either do something about it, or stay poor.

A lot of rich people started out with a small amount that were saved and with compound interest, this has grown into a massive amount or they worked hard and they invested their savings into building a business.

I don't think that currently there are no poor people who save because of all the poor people in this world there are definitely some of them who save in conditions like today. Absolutely. Focusing on a single job will not work anymore. Even if you are having a high paying job, but knowing the cost of commodities is also high, then you are just working to sustain your daily needs, without having extra for investment or even saving for emergency funds. If only a lot of people will realize this and focus on developing skills to gain side jobs, than just simply complaining and ask for salary increase, then most probably  people will not suffer from high inflation that resulted into the prices of all commodities, but will still live comfortably and even enjoy luxury things in life.

We're in a death spiral of spending that works like this:
Someone knows he can't afford a new car, so he leases one. Puts it all over his social media to show that he's doing well financially. All his friends, especially those who are doing a bit worse, think they're doing much much worse, because he was supposed to be making x thousand a year and bought a car worth more than twice his yearly wage.
They can't sleep at night, their wives make them feel miserable by talking about that car, they finally decide to get a loan and buy a new car that they don't really need, but want to look like they're successful. They don't want to be the poorest working man in the group.

People will keep spending and they will keep buying things they don't need. I've done that myself. I knew it's a waste of money but I did it anyway to feel how it is to own this or that. Life is short, you can't be saving up until you're 60. Technically you can, but you'll have a lot of regrets in the end.

One stream of income is obviously not enough to cater for our needs and that of our loved ones (if any). This is not the time to stay idle complaining when we should be making money.

You have an empty room in your apartment? let it out and receive rents for it.
Is there a fertile land in your yard, begin to cultivate some of the food you consume.

Salaries go up as well, but do they go up in the same ratio that the prices of other items have gone up? I don’t know so I’m asking. If you say they are going up at the same rate then it shouldn’t be that people say the cost of living is getting high because the increase in salaries would be felt. I don't know which country you are talking about but my country has a lot in common with your country. In my country it is now a situation where the price of any thing has increased so much that people are struggling to buy anything. I am talking about my Bangladesh, the current situation of my Bangladesh is very terrible. If I want to buy something, I can't buy it at the previous price, it has increased by more than 50%. The condition of the rich in this country is improving day by day, the condition of the poor is slowly going down. I believe this is exact definition of inflationary corruption of society. Everyone knows prices are increasing but everyone also knows money they own now is more valuable than money of tomorrow. That's not true, you don't need to be amongst the rich persons in the society to invest, their are several asset to invest and some you can start with very low amount, even investing in bitcoin is possible using DCA method, you can just allocate a percentage of your income to invest in bitcoin on a steady interval.

You've got a great point here and it's something I've been noticing as well.  Personally I try and take a stand against price gouging, and as you point out, if businesses keeping getting ..business, ,at higher rates, then why the heck would they ever go back.  This is what pisses me off when people will just go a long with it, which sets a trend and thing will likely never change back.  So many examples of this from resteraunts to sports tickets and on and on.

This has led to a massive shift in people's mindsets. In history, we can see a good number of struggles faced by the people, and they fought and got their rights. Now it isn't the same, as people weren't allowed or unable to fight. The only choice is to get adopted by the rule, and the same is happening around. This is the reason why people just keep spending to fulfill their needs, even when things are overpriced.

I agree with this, if we look at it, the costing of preparing our own food at home is almost the same compared to buying from fast food or restaurants, the only difference is the serving of what is sold at the restaurant and that's valid because they have many things to cinonsider in their costing. Let's go back to what you said if a person earns just enough, does that mean he has a low standard of living and doesn't make an effort to increase his income? FYI, Not all people are blessed with a good company or businesses, there are many of employee who even if they work 2-3 jobs per day are still lacking, due to the high prices and expenses, other companies should also keep up with the salary increase, but nothing like that happens .

To survive one must eat food and fulfill basic needs.  So no matter how much the price of the product increases, you have to buy it.  No matter how hard it is to make a living, you have to keep up with these to survive. The price of everything has gone up.  Still people are buying them. Because these are their daily needs. But in this age, thinking of saving is wrong. Because what the middle class earns is spent on their food. So people are thinking about survival for now, they are not thinking about saving or investing.

Debts have gotten so out of control that it's obvious the government is just going to keep riding that printing press.  The only way they know how to slow down inflation is to cause recessions and bankrupt people so they can't afford to buy anything, then bankrupt businesses who can't cut prices enough for people to buy.  Eventually things reset and the government has more control over the people and less control of the money supply.  The name of the game is to buy assets that will appreciate with inflation and make sure you can afford to hang on to them through recessions.  If you're really lucky you get some extra money stashed away so you can have some fun once in a while.  Make no mistake about it though, the government is going to keep causing recessions and inflating the currency until nobody can afford to own property.  Only those who have a sick addiction to buying stocks (and maybe Bitcoin if it continues to gain adoption) will be the ones who can maintain their standard of living.

Nowadays, however, people still go to the market to shop due to dependency factors, as kitchen needs are mandatory daily things that must be fulfilled. Another effort, even though the price of goods is expensive, is to try to save money so that kitchen equipment is met, unlike secondary needs, and also save on fuel consumption by getting used to walking and riding a bicycle again and not taking credit items.

Yes, people must have enough foods, they also have some basic needs/necessities. This is why people will never stop spending although the world economic is in a worse situation. I know the prices of almost all goods are increasing significantly, but we have no choice and can't stay away from the goods. I have to say that this is true, where when economic instability occurs, including inflation or recession, this can affect a person's profits and losses in investing. There's not much that will happen if people complain. They will still have to consume these goods, especially their necessities, in order to survive. we have to be careful on how to manage our resources. we should be Wise enough to balance between the income and our expenses. For instance, you can decide to cut down or reduce the number of things you buy in order to balance between the two sides especially when you realize that what you are getting as income has not increased and the price of what you are buying has increased. for example, if you do buy three items with three dollars before, and suddenly it goes up to three dollars per each, then, you can decide to reduce the number of the items to one and manage it like that and life continues.

Some people find it weird when they see people keep on spending money on things that recently used to cost cheaper. One of the reason why I am not surprised with it is because it sometimes turns out that people have plenty of money. They arent hidden millionaires, but many have savings. I have noticed it first during covid. When borders were closed, people who used to travel 2-3 times per year had unused money. People always try to save during year for a summer or winter vacation. Now they have those spare 2-4 thousands to spend.

Also I notice that previously used car market was quite busy. Now people still need new cars in their 5-15k price range, but used car trading areas are either empty or filled for 1/3 only. That is quite an imbalance in economy. Shortage of import; people have money to spend. This is why I am not surprised when people keep on buying expensive things. Those who have little money, their spending habit hasnt changed much. Those who have money, dont know how to spend them.

Cause the needs and wants of people do not change regardless of if things become more cheaper or expensive. You can't just stop people from wishing for more or fulfilling their needs. Some people will certainly adjust or learn how to budget accordingly, but people will always be spending when it's for something that they want or need, that's one thing for sure. That's why some motherfucking manufacturers out there push out monopolies to make sure that they control the market and jack the prices up against the common joe's wishes. Take for example insulin, which is a commodity that a huge portion of people in the planet needs so badly to survive another day on this planet, because only one company controls the insulin at least in the US, they can jack the prices up whenever they want and people will not have a choice but to complain, but buy that shit anyway. It's exploitative, yes, but it's a testament to how you can't force people to just adjust.

You observed correctly in the area of restaurant that touching, this has cost allot of under feeding as cutting cost has to come in in other to maintain one savings.
Some policy by government is not help to mitigate issue of price rise mostly once it has to deal with food market, for the sports I know it can be some how regulated if they have low turn out for the sports but food can't work as people can't stopped feeding.

The business tax should be reduced by government to help they have regulatory power over some hike on price of good mostly consumables.

It is not surprising when we see that the prices of goods continue to rise uncontrollably and the average person's source of income is still the same as when goods had not risen. The issue of food is a necessity and that means it must be met properly even though the price is rising so quickly. In fact, I see it is more affordable to make food at home compared to eating at a restaurant at this time. I have three children and on average we spend $4 for one meal and that's if we cook it ourselves at home by buying basic necessities once every two days. The amount can change depending on the food menu we want to cook and I think we save more if we cook it ourselves compared to buying ready-to-eat food at a restaurant.

Conditions of economic hardship are felt by many people in many parts of the world and many people are even unable to invest or save in these conditions. Mostly in Africa cost of living is not something to discuss, it is so disheartening, inflation has death with most west Africa countries to the extent that they have run out of ideas on how to manage the situation, things keep increasing daily, just imagine a friend went to buy noodles for his family he bought at a particular price but went back to buy the noodles in two days time they told him that the noodles is now times two of what he bought the other day, he taught that they are joking after severally argument and deliberations with the sellers he finally bought because there is nothing he could do in such situation, just imagine what people are going through in other to survive and the government is busy doing noting to savage the situation, food is suppose to be the priority of the government to make available for the people on a subsidized rate but the case is different, food items keeps skyrocketing with plans of curbing it, it is high time the government work with production company to help the populace out of this unwanted situation.

Everything is overpriced but people don't work for the same salary too, at least in my country salaries have significantly gone up and I really live in a poor country. Things, especially food and rent started rising because too many Russians and Ukrainians flew to my country. While there are still many people who didn't experience salary increases and it's also true that absolutely everything in my country is ridiculously overpriced, people still spend money because they have no other choice. Many of them live paycheck-to-paycheck and almost everyone around me has a loan from a bank. Some people will be putting household necessities on credit cards just to survive. Isn't perhaps one of the biggest problems that we call things now overpriced that have for a long time been underpriced? I have recently watched a few documentaries about large-scale meat production and food production in general. Some of the documentaries were about agricultural production, but also about other kinds of highly processed foods. Meat is the most prominent example when I shop for groceries and realize how cheap some of it is, but once you saw some of those documentaries you also realize that it is barely acceptable to criticize the pricing as someone or something is paying for it. In this case it is the animals and to a large degree the environment. I know different people have different opinions here, but I concur that there are products which are overly expensive, but many of the products that people complain about may have been underpriced for a long time.
