Title: How to view your funds in Sparrow Wallet?
Post by: headingnorth on March 23, 2024, 12:51:25 AM
Just imported a new Coldcard wallet (JSON file) into Sparrow wallet. But can't find the option in Sparrow to simply view my funds.

btw I am recovering my wallet from Trezor into a new Coldcard. I can see my funds in Trezor Suite and Bluewallet.

If you import the seed phrase correctly, it would be on 'transaction' by default and you will be able to see your balance at the top left corner just like this:

Know that if you import seed phrase on online wallet, the seed phrase is no more safe as it was on cold wallet. If you want to continue using Coldcare or other hardware wallet, generate the seed phrase using the hardware wallet and not on online wallet.

Balance says zero. I must have entered the wrong seedphrase. Entering 24 words is pretty tedious easy to make a mistake.

EDIT: the seedphrase is correct just verified with the view seedphrase feature in Coldcard. Don't know why funds are not appearing in Sparrow.

I also just opened up Trezor suite and Bluewallet to verify the funds are there.

If you enter the correct seed but the passphrase is wrong then you will create an empty wallet. Also, make sure Sparrow Wallet is connected to a node or a public server. When you create a new wallet sometimes you can forget to switch the toggle in the bottom right corner to on and it won’t be able to scan the blockchain for your transactions.

May be the script type that you've selected in Sparrow.
Are the addresses with balance in Trezor or Blue wallet 'Native SegWit', 'Legacy' or 'Nested-SegWit'?

Even though the exported ".json" file from Coldcard contains all three script types, only the one selected in "Script Type" in Sparrow (in Keystores settings above) will be restored in that wallet.

It could be as a result of the script type.

Try to import the seed phrase again, click on 'script type'. It is in Native Segwit by default which consist of bitcoin addresses that starts with bc1q. Click on it and you will see other script types which are:

Legacy (P2PKH) which consists of bitcoin addresses that starts with 1
Nested Segwit (P2SH-P2WPKH). Which are addresses that starts with 3
Taproot (P2TR). Which are bc1p addresses.

If you know which address your seed phrase generate, you can click on the right script type. Or just import the (seed phrase using the) 4 script type individually and check which one are funded.

To view you funds you need to check the relevant box (at the step of creating the new wallet in Sparrow) which indicates  that this wallet has transactions history.  After checking this box you would also need to set up the date as of the point to start the blockchain scanning  to find all these trxs. This scanning would be an affair   of the relevant  node (either yours or public).

I don't think this is related with Sparrow wallet.
There is a good chance this is happening because of a different derivation used for Trezor and Coldcard, maybe you changed it or it was like that by default.
I would not be surprised if coldcard is using something differently that is not industry standard, they have a habit of doing that  :P
