Post by: SirArashi on April 12, 2024, 04:58:50 PM
Hello All

I have an old version of Electrum (4.0.9) have not update since 2021 and enabled 2FA option (for withdrawal) while installation.

- where can I find my BTC address to check my balance? I dont know my current balance.

- I dont want to pay for 2FA option for withdrawal, can I restore my wallet again with a new electrum? ( i have seed phrase )

thanks for your help  :)

I've never used 2FA with Electrum, but (and someone can correct me if I'm wrong) you should be able to download the latest Electrum (https://electrum.org/#download) version, input your seed phrase and have access to your funds with no issues regarding 2FA.

Is it a password you're talking about?  If that's the case, then that's specific to the wallet you installed a while back and shouldn't be required with a new one.

While importing the seed phrase, you will see where you can disable the 2FA before you will set your password. You will be able to spend the coins without the need of TrrustedCoin.

I'm assuming you still have access to the wallet correct? If so the total balance of your wallet is on the lower left corner of the program (image taken from here[1]):

Yes. You can follow the (great) procedure outlined by Husna QA here[2]. If you are looking to upgrade Electrum, and since this procedure makes you input your seed, please make sure that you install a non tampered version of Electrum[3]. Failing to do this will mean that your funds will probably be drained instantly or near instantly.

If your wallet is connected to trustedcoin then you can try this method and if the suggestion above does not work you can try this one below

To recover your Electrum download this page below

and open it in an offline device then paste the seed phrase backup. It would generate a wallet file with no 2FA. Open it with the Electrum wallet and then go to address tab and you should be able to see all of your addresses derive from your backup seed.

It will definitely work.

He should click on wallet with two-factor authentication -> I already have a seed -> input the seed phrase. He will see what that I posted above to disable it.

I hope he will understand to click on next after seeing the disclaimer.

Also I think this should not be a work for someone that had successfully setup a 2FA wallet on Electrum before.

As already said by others, you can easily disable 2FA using your seed phrase.
I just want to add that electrum 2FA wallet is a 2 of 3 multi-signature wallet and it will be still a 2 of 3 multo-signature wallet after you disable 2FA. Since transactions made from a multi-signature wallet are more expensive in fees, you may want to consider creating a new single-signature wallet and move all your fund to that.

I don't recommend doing this, tbh.
If OP has the correct seed and follows the recovery steps as described above then I don't see any reason why it won't work. It's a straight forward process: import your seed into Electrum and tell it to disable 2fa.
Besides, if you can do it with Electrum why taking the risk of using a third-party tool (regardless of how trustworthy trustedcoin are). And keep in mind that thus tool will create an unencryptew wallet file. So anyone who gets access to it will be able to read the seed in plain text.

It is just optional if importing the seed directly does not work my method should work it is just based on my experience before when importing my seed phrase the next button is grayed out which is why I tried to use the tool that TrustedCoin sent to me via email according to them it works in an offline device that is why I downloaded the page and transfer it to the offline device to make sure it's safe.

Yes, it generates an encrypted wallet file but you can encrypt it later if you want just make sure that for safety purposes do all of them on an offline device there is an option to encrypt it on Electrum so it should be safe to use.

That version should work without requiring an upgrade. (athough recommended)
And the answer to this should be obvious since it literally shows "Balance:" in the lower-left hand side of Electrum.

If it's not showing; check the server, click the red circle icon and tick "select server automatically".
If still not, reply with your Electrum network settings' both tabs as well as your machine's network config.

But have you paid using this wallet in the past before?
Because if so, your Trusted Coin account must still have prepaid credits left to use in your next transactions.

You can see the credits by clicking 'Trusted Coin' icon https://www.talkimg.com/images/2024/04/13/jGLwN.png below, in "Your wallet has nn prepaid transactions.".

If there's still, keep using your wallet till those credits are near empty (it's a lot safer than standard and you don't want to waste it),
then use the last credit to send to a standard wallet if you don't want to use 2fa anymore.

If you know your seed phrase then you can easily disable your multi factor authentication. As others have mentioned your MFA makes it a multi-signature wallet, so if you are planning to not use MFA anymore you are best off creating a new wallet with a fresh seed and transferring your crypto to there.
