Title: Building mining shed
Post by: kebrab on April 21, 2024, 01:24:28 PM
Hello all,

I am very new to the business of bitcoin mining.
That is to say I have 0 experience, but I am a very well versed IT developper.
I have inherited of a prime piece of land in Ethiopia this year and would like to build a small 20 suqre meter bitcoin mining shed on it.
I hope you all heard that mining in Ethiopia is in vogue right now.
I wanted to have some resources in how to set up such building with ventillation and all.
Can someone point me to the right direction?

Price per kwh, amount you can draw, what's your budget, how many miners can you afford/you want to buy....
Setting a shed for 4 asics or 15KW is different from 50 or 200KW!
You care about noise, how hot it goes, is there a ton of dust, and so on.

Anyhow you can start with topics like this:

and follow the suggestions, there are a few more but seems like the image links are broken.

lets us know.

power cost.

internet reliability

power amount available

type of power.

240 single phase
240 three phase
440 three phase.

budget.
$10,000
$20,000
$50,000
$100,000

Ethiopia has a very diverse climate from humid rainforest to desert. This would be a big factor in AC cost in the humid regions to water curtains (water availability) and such..

Beautiful country, so much more to it than what we are presented here in the US.

Good luck

power cost: right now 0,022$ per KWH - soon 0,035$ per KWH - fairly reliable

internet reliability: Not that reliable but can switch between internet line and mobile internet maybe

power amount available

type of power.
220V single phase - 7KW is lowest you can get but it can go very high but you need to provide a transformer
220V three phase - 18KW is lowest you can get but it can go very high but you need to provide a transformer

240 single phase
240 three phase
440 three phase.

I was thinking of a small PoC first with 2 or 3 machine as I will have only 18KW three phase to start. If everything goes according to plan invest more in machine.

budget.
$10,000
$20,000
$50,000
$100,000
only for machine not building. I have local cash for that.

The humid tropical climate is going to make it a bit difficult because you have to invest extra in cooling facilities especially if you are looking to buy strong asic miners which generate a ton of heat. But, generally still doable if you plan it properly.

Hey guys.  This is my first post.  Correct me if I am in the wrong spot.  I have several Ant miners SS-21.  Everything runs on fiber, so it works great.  I have several out buildings on my property that need heat.. We are installing mines in every building for heat & to make bitcoin.    What can I use for a router to shoot a couple 100 yards from my house to the out buildings to get internet.     I also run star link on different sites in the oilfield. I can add several mines to each set up.   What is the best router for that?  Everything needs to be hardwired in, so it makes it a bit more challenging.  I need a wireless hub with Ethernet ports.  Any info will be great.   1.more question.  I remote access the mines, once the new router is installed wifi, will I be able to access from fiber network, or will it require another computer on that network.  I am pretty blind the networking?

Thanks!!

so a router to  a few buildings each run is 200 yards ?

max eth is 328 feet. there are boosters.

Humditity is pretty risky and it's very easy to break your gears if you don't set things up correctly, what you need to watch is relative humidity inside the room which would certainly be a lot lower than the outside given the heat the miners generate, so as long as miners are running and not idling "especially with fans running"  there shouldn't be a problem.

440 three phase.

You can use Starlink, it works perfectly fine with mining and is very stable, as for the power, you want 440 three-phase, but make sure it's a star on the Low voltage side, otherwise, it would be pretty useless, the reasons why 3 phase is better than a single phase in your case are plenty, but most importantly is that some mining gears run on 3 phase, and I assume in the future many of them will be 3 phase.
