Title: Can't transfer BTC from wallet..
Post by: Alpha Marine on April 22, 2024, 03:47:04 AM
Usually, I don't stress it when I have a stuck transaction due to low network fees when there's congestion, but this is something new (to me at least).

Normally, when I want to make a transaction in relatively small amounts that are not time-sensitive, I just manually reduce the network fee and wait patiently till the transaction is confirmed.
Now 3 days ago I was about to make a transaction from my trust wallet and the picture below is what I got.
https://talkimg.com/images/2024/04/22/jKGDC.md.jpeg (https://talkimg.com/image/jKGDC)

This is not the first time I'm making a transaction when the fee is about $9 worth. And no, the transaction fee is not close to or more than the amount of BTC I want to send.

I'd like to know if this is an "only me" problem or a general problem to all trust wallet users, and also, is there something I can do about it, or waiting till the network feesnormalizee is the only solution I've got?

Firstly op you can't manually edit your fees on trust wallet. Trust wallet uses a default fee selection system where it automatically selects the best fee for you per say which means that it will definitely pick a high fee so you can get a quick confirmation. The two things you could possibly do is either wait for mempool conjestions to drop so that fees return back to normal or you add some coins to what you have there so you can fund both the amount and fees. You could also use the seed phrase to access the wallet through electrum and then broadcast the transaction with the fee you want from Electrum.

For the record Op trust wallet is one of the worse wallet you should be using right now aside the fact that it is almost Similar to an exchange it is also closed source. So that you don't face similar issues in the future kindly switch to a better wallet like Electrum or a mobile one like mycelium where you can fully customize your fees.

It is better you use a better wallet like Electrum, Sparrow or Bluewallet. They are open source. Unlike Trustwallet that is close source. When the fee is high, Trustwallet user do complain of error.

Import your Trustwallet seed phrase on Electrum to send the coin. It is better you generate new seed phrase on Electrum and send your coins there.

You can customize the fee on Trustwallet.

Trust wallet sometimes like most wallet have the worst fee estimation and errors like this are very common to them. Just like the advice on the previous replies what you should do is use electrum or BlueWallet as have done so in the past and then make your transaction. After that in future if the fees drop you should consider creating a new seed phrase with an open source wallet and move your funds there.

Trust wallet has actually added the feature to customize your fees unlike before. But it is not a straightforward way like other wallets and possibly that’s why some of its users cannot identify it, here is how to customize fees on trust wallet https://community.trustwallet.com/t/how-to-change-the-btc-network-fee/67205 (https://community.trustwallet.com/t/how-to-change-the-btc-network-fee/67205)

Are you implying that I lied?
Yea, trust wallet fees are automatically higer than normal fees but there's an option to manually reduce or increase the transaction, they'll only give you a warning message that it may delay your transaction if you reduce it.

Thanks for this.
I already have an Electrum wallet on my other device, is there a way I can import the bitcoin in the trust wallet into the electrum or it's best I install another electrum or blueWallet on this device and import using the seed phrase of tbr trust wallet?

By no chance he wasn’t implying that, he wasn’t aware that the wallet has added that feature possible because it has been long he used that wallet and the customization fee feature to as a feature that was later added.

It not necessary that the wallets must have to be on the same device, you can simply import the seed phrase into a BlueWallet or Electrum wallet on any device and then make your transaction. The danger is that importing your seed phrase into just any wallet will expose the wallet to malwares or phishing attacks

Lol no offense Alpha Marine I never said you were lying  I was only typing based on my experience with trust wallet in the past. ;) ;)
Still I don't recommend you make use of trust wallet especially if you want to have a hodling wallet. Trust wallet is quite vulnerable, coupled with the fact it is not open source. Aside from all these most people prefer to make use of wallets that accept mainly Bitcoin as in most cases a majority of them are closed source.
It think during that period when the conjestion was at its peak, many users also had similar issues trying to move funds in their trust wallet. If you face such issues you could just export your keys to another wallet and broadcast the transaction from there.
Don't forget to keep your keys safe mate

I understand, no offence taken.
And thanks, I won't be using trust wallet anymore. I am about to import my wallet into blueWallet.
Thanks again for the help.

Trust wallet is only good for altcoins and not for bitcoin, and it is good that you use only a bitcoin open source wallet to store your bitcoin and use altcoin wallet like trust wallet to store your altcoins, it is very safe that way.

I will also say that after you have imported your seed phrase to blue wallet, you should create another wallet in which you can transfer all your coins in your blue wallet to. A new wallet with a new seed phrase for proper safety. It is easy to customize fee on electrum wallet and blue wallet.

Trustwallet is a close source wallet and it should not be about the coin it is good for or not, but not to use it as you do not know if the wallet has backdoors and also maybe it is spying on you or having hidden vulnerabilities that are intentionally added by its  developers.

I have imported my wallet into blueWallet, and I'm about to make a transfer, but I keep getting a "socket is closed" message, which is preventing me from making the transfer. What does that mean and what should I do?

Why not try Electrum? Electrum is available on both Android and Windows. Also on Linux. My preference is desktop Electrum.

On desktop Electrum
After you name your wallet or using the default name, click on standard wallet -> I already have a seed -> Options -> select BIP39 seed and click on OK. Input your BIP39 seed phrase which is Trustwallet seed phrase, click on next and select native segwit (p2wpkh) to proceed.

On Android Electrum
Click on standard wallet -> I already have a seed -> click on Electrum at the upper right corner and click on BIP39 -> input your seed phrase and select native segwit (p2wpkh) to proceed.
