I have the possibility of a friend hosting a miner for me in a spare room at his business without being charged for electricity. Could someone recommend a relatively cheap (<=$1500) but powerful miner that would suit this situation. Obviously an emphasis on higher hashrate over efficiency. Thanks in advance.

If your focus is on hashrate ASICs should be the best option over GPUs, you can had to Amazon and compare prices there. <$1500 will be a huge steal and to be profitable you'll need at least 6 or 7 of them.

With no electricity cost the potential profit margin is positive if you can manage the rig properly.

Any reason why you're prioritizing higher hashrate over efficiency? You need the machines to work long enough for you to break even and profit.

If you are just planning to buy BTC Miner then the newest model from Bitmain is more powerful but the problem is it's too expensive.

With your current budget, I think what you can only buy are 2nd hand s17 units but try to contact @offordscott he might be able to find you a better unit with your budget.

also he needs 240volts for any asic that is not modded the s17 needs 240 volts

the s19 needs 240 volts.



my thread has modded power and can use 120 volts.

if I use an s19 pro 100th th it is under 800 usd and around  33th that is $1.65 a day earnings at viabtc.

if he has 240 volts he can get an s17 cheaper set it to low and do 42th

Efficiency is less of a concern with potentially free power

with free power the cheaper one make $5 usd a day the more expensive one makes $5.50 usd a day


the extra cost is about 232 usd.

that takes 15 months extra to pay the extra cost.

you are paying 40% more for 10% more hash.

Reminder that all standard >10TH/s miners make a hell of a lot of noise.
Be wary of the fact that it may be way too much noise for your 'friend' to have to put up with :)

Electricity in Aus is ridiculously high priced also, so you're friend may be surprised at how much you can use in a month :)
