Did you know that a group of 5 software developers is responsible for maintaining the Bitcoin source code?

Yes namely Hennadii Stepanov, Michael Ford, Andrew Chow, Marko Falke and Gloria Zhao.

It has just been quite recent where one of the developers stepped down. He is not the first though hopefully the last unless we see new ones added. It has been known that each person is responsible for different aspects of bitcoin core.

They are extremely important to the blockchain in general. Bitcoin will lose life without them.

I did know about them yes, they are totally vital to the continued development of Bitcoin Core. Arguably the most reputable & well known dev, Wladimir Jasper van der Laan gave up his access in 2023. These very gifted software experts are important but they are replaceable.
