Generally curious how people get into crypto/where they first hear about it. Also, what's a good place to start as a newbie?

You obviously are in the best place to know about cryptocurrency and Bitcoin to be precise. Bitcoin being the king of all cryptocurrency is the main idea for the creation of this forum.  But you can gain extra knowledge about other cryptocurrency here on the altcoin section of the forum. As a newbie in crypto you have to be very careful where you get your knowledge form. That because learning from a poor source or a wrong mentor at a young stage will affect your crypto journey in the as you go on. So what ever you do, try learning from the right people, which I think you will find on this forum. But be careful, having any personal discussions outside this forum with any unknown person to avoid being scammed.

A good place you should start is to learn about what you actually want to start investing in, and you also need to differentiate what you want, whether it's Altcoin or Bitcoin, you want to start your journey on. If you have figured out what you want there, then you should try and learn the basics about it before you proceed, so that you can be sure of what you are investing in.

People first heard about Bitcoin in various ways. I first found out about Bitcoin(mining) in 2012-2015 because I was looking for ways to earn passive income online with zero work(lol I know). I had a very shitty laptop so after earning nothing in an hour, I simply turned off whatever mining software I used.

Then, I found out about it again in 2016 when Bitfinex got hacked. Dug deep, and the rest is history.

Someone already put a lot of links that you can read as a newbie, so that is already a good start. But regarding how people get into crypto or at least in my case, I was a freelancer before, had so many online jobs until I stumbled it somewhere and reading about Satoshi and his project.

But it was just in 2017 that I really discovered it and just like the rest of us here, that was the golden era, I would say because Bitcoin is just about to have a break out and so we see a huge jump in terms of exposure and now it is bigger than ever.

It's easier to get in now than ten years ago because of Bitcoin news and the many companies that are using and promoting Bitcoin. Ten years ago, you could hardly watch or search for information about Cryptocurrency.

The best places to research information about Cryptocurrency are YouTube and Google. You can find tons of information on any term related to Cryptocurrency. If you are patient, you can learn many things about Cryptocurrency in a short period of time.

This platform is a very nice place to start a crypto journey as long as you're willing to learn and wait patiently till you have acquired the minimum required and basic knowledge about cryptocurrency before you begin investment, there are sections available whereby you can take and use them for your learning as you may want it, make use of the search button and also ask questions when needed and as accordingly on areas that you needs more clarifications on.

there are many tutorials that they can watch on youtube or google, they can see what cryptocurrency is, what blockchain is, how to setup a wallet, and many other information. if they are too confused about it, they can ask chatgpt and i feel that what will be conveyed by chatgpt will really help them to start navigating to learn various things about bitcoin if they don't know where to start.

but of all the best places of course is this forum. not only can you see various threads that discuss bitcoin, but you can also discuss and ask things that you may still have difficulty understanding. this forum is the best place for beginners to start and you are very lucky to be able to join this forum.

Every journey starts with a decision to try, so Mate, feel free and go ahead and introduce yourself to any crypto that you wish to start, but before you engage yourself so far about the investment, you have to make sure that you know much about the basics of Bitcoin so that you can get different experiences with any coins that you wish to purchase.

And again, if you want to invest, invest the amount of money that you can afford to lose money, because it happens to so many people before, like those that will go and take a loan to invest.

To be honest, it's not good advice, What if you lose to the investment that you made or the time they give you from where you took the loan has reach and the coins that you bought didn't do well during that time? So my advice to you is to deepen your knowledge of Bitcoin investment so that you can comprehend all the basics of Bitcoin and it can also help you and being scammed.

Given the increasingly rapid development of the world with the internet accessed by almost everyone, the internet space is the beginning of their introduction to crypto.
For beginners who want to explore crypto outside of this forum, I think the ease of internet access will make it easier for them to start. People assume when they hear the name crypto, the information that will be described in various types of articles is Bitcoin and the top altcoins.

If you want to understand here, some of the topics that have been given can be the first step for beginners to get started.
With the willingness to read, then later knowledge about crypto will be found.
Talking about crypto, then it's privacy. Be careful and maintain good privacy.

Each of us has a story about how he discovered the crypto space and what his motivations were in the first place. Currently, the majority have become interested in this field for investment purposes, as Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies represent good investment opportunities, especially for those who have prior knowledge of the stock and currency market.

Personally, I started with Bitcoin when I was looking for a way to receive payments from my freelance work on the Internet, since my country does not support any of the international payment systems. Bitcoin was a valuable discovery for me. After that, I searched a little to find this forum, which helped me develop my knowledge and keep up with all the progress.

Of course, you are absolutely right as it's wise for the newbies to be careful with their crypto journey as you have said and also try to do more of research by themselves like browsing or asking questions on Google etc.

And also they should be patient and learn about crypto because it's very essential to have the knowledge and understanding of crypto and this can make them not to fall a victim to fraudsters or scammers and it will also help them get or actualized their dreams because in crypto, any mistakes we make might affect us in the future which we might regret.

So if the newbies can adhere to all this opinion and be careful as you have said, their crypto journey won't be a regretful one for them.

I was expecting you tell us your own story, where you hear about it and how you were able to pickup the courage and motivation to get into crypto, that is if you have even started investing in crypto or still gathering information. We are in the era of the internet and social media where information are readily available to anyone that is connected to the internet. It is difficult to see anyone with social media account and internet connection that have not heard about cryptocurrency unless in countries where cryptocurrency is heavily censored and citizens locked out from the rest of the world. Word of mouth from friends and family is also another great source of information that have done much of the convincing of people to join cryptocurrency.

You are fortunate to discover this forum early. Some people have lost money and time because they were getting the wrong information. Some websites promote scams and shitcoins and they give out wrong information. This forum has information about almost everything you need to know about cryptocurrencies and other related services. But you need to invest some time to read and understand this information. You are also free to ask any questions that are related to crypto. But before asking ensure you use the search option to check if such questions have been handled before.

To answer your question, I first heard about crypto from a friend and the internet. However, I became fully committed to learning about the industry when I was introduced to this forum. I can attest that this forum is one of the best places to start your crypto journey.

Maybe the Op just wants to hear other people’s stories and is not ready to share his own. I don’t really know why the OP is really interested in hearing other people’s stories. When I first heard about crypto on  social media, whenever I am on YouTube, I do come across some videos about bitcoin and some other altcoins, so with time I do end up doing more research and learning more about it, and I started trading some altcoins even though I lost so much money then, but with time there was improvement.

If you want to learn about bitcoin and cryptocurrency generally, then the forum is just the best place for you because you will be able to ask questions and interact with people here, and there are lots of people with experience who will be sharing their knowledge with you. Also, if you are a newbie on the forum here, it’s better if you just start from the section where you created this thread, which is the beginning's, and help. You will be able to learn the basics about bitcoin, and then with time there will be improvement.

There are some separate sections where you can find various information like altcoins discussion has separate section Bitcoin has different and gambling and many other sections are available where you can ask freely you have you local sections too where you can ask according to your language. This will help you make smart decisions and avoid mistakes. Keep learning stay curious and welcome to cryptocurrency community.

Considering the amount of knowledge I have gotten so far from this forum, I can't keep it to myself but to try as much to refer other who have like minds in learning about cryptocurrency. The blogs can be really discouraging at times as they pose to configure our mind towards thinking that crypto is an invention for criminal activities and other sorts of hack, but in real sense they are only kicking about crypto because they don't have full idea what it entails, I wish they could see from my perspective.

Cryptocurrency has grown so popular that you don't even need anyone to tell you before you no that such thing exists because even in the news and social media it has been the talk on daily basis but though majority of people come into Bitcoin through social media and also one of the best aspect I love about Bitcoin is the fact that anyone can start investing on Bitcoin even without having so much information or idea, so as a newbie there is no limits to how far you will go on Bitcoin investment but however in as much as too much knowledge may not actually be too necessary but you need to learn some of the basic things about Bitcoin in other not to completely lack of knowledge on your investment and also choosing holding will be the best option for you because it doesn't take much of your energy and time, so for the safety of your investment as a newbie focus on holding.

Someone who's curious to know about something will definitely dedicate their time to it but Op has not been online after making this post and I doubt whether he read through this thread to know how people heard and come across crypto in different ways.

Op, in case you don't know much about crypto, this is the perfect platform for you to equip yourself with necessary information and knowledge about crypto. From the forum name, you can see that we talk mainly about bitcoin here with extension to altcoins and of course to society related issues since we all live in a society, economy and how it affects crypto industry. As a newbie, the best place to start making posts is in your local board that is if your country has a local board in the forum because you get to understand things better in your country's common language from members of your local board and if you make mistakes there you can easily be corrected unlike the general discussion boards where newbies are mostly criticized when they make mistakes. So after being familiar with discussion in your local board then you can literally start making posts in the general boards, that was how I started and as time goes on i became conversant with forum discussions.

But I don't think people are not aware that cryptocurrency has Notting to do with money. Because of the value that cryptocurrency has it makes people to have interest about and to know more.  This forum is a good place for you to start up your bitcoin journey because you will surely get a first hand information.  The forum does not tolerate false information about bitcoin and bitcoin related. It depends what you really want to learn as what you are interested in. We have crypto traders and investors, what ever category you want to fall to, you have to start working toward it. Being a crypto investor does not have so many things to learn. You can be an investor and still learning about the crypto space. The most important thing that is required for you to be an investor is fund, although it also applicable to being a trader too but one would need to have enough money to be a crypto investor because what it entails is using your capital to buy different crypto projects for the bull run.

Bitcoin will definitely surpassed most of these fiat currency because they're dormant. Bitcoin have been in existence and we know the crucial information about this project. It's promising, making people wealthy and also become the cause of downfall for most of these investors because they've grown to become ignorant of the space.
