Title: Anyone know of a coin mint able to make 10 2.75 inch silver coins ?
Post by: krogoth on June 19, 2024, 10:58:44 PM
Always wanted to make some silver coins but every mint I have reached out to always had a high minimum.

Anyone know of one that can make say 10 silver coins without bankrupty me by asking for a minimum of 50 or 100?

Oh and the coin I want to make is 2.75 Inch diameter to accommodate my holo

I might be able to make this happen.

For something that size you are realistically looking at $2000.00 range for 10 pieces shipped to your door.

It might be easier to just create smaller holograms that meet the general 1 oz size rounds that mints make or make them 1/2 oz size to cut material cost in half.

:)

yea small batch is hard to get cheap - the setup and dies etc almost cheaper to do 100 to 150 1 oz coins than it is to do that small batch you want to do.

We have an internationally well known company in Germany that does all kind of minting. They produce bars or coins from 1g to 15kg for companies, communities, private persons...

Happy to assist you at any time calling them or ship stuff from the old Continent to the US🤗

Thanks all for your replies!  Yes was thinking of making new holograms but if I can find a mint or someone who can laser engrave the coins, then the cost of dies will not be an issue and individual coin making a possibility...especially if each coin will have the BTC addy engraved on it.

I will think about what you all have suggested and what you have offered and think about this for now.

One question, is it a good idea to engrave the private key?  I have heard concerns about x-rays exposing private keys if they are engraved...  I realize for long term storage it makes complete sense, but again just weighing the pros and cons.

   Not private keys...public keys!

I would not trust the mint with any private keys.

As a coin maker I am the sole person responsible for the keys....and nobody else

Laser engraving might eliminate the need for dies which is the bulk of the minting cost. If you don't care about having exact metal weights on your rounds, go that route.  2.75" is still a large chunk of silver and you'll have to source that or make your own.

That is correct.....now to find someone who does laser engraving

It would probably be cheaper to buy your own laser engraver than paying someone else to do it. Laser engravers are pretty cheap nowadays. I’ve never used one as I prefer metal on metal engravers, but I do see them advertised quite a bit at shockingly low prices. A couple people here have even used them on coins so I’d ask them about the experience.
