Title: Will bitcoin be affected if the internet gets disrupted?
Post by: Obari on July 22, 2024, 08:00:32 AM
I recently made comment on a Thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5503517.msg64341818#msg64341818) by @NotATether and it actually made me had a deep thought on what really the fate of bitcoin would be without the internet because we are know that we’re in a world of possibilities and anything(absolutely) can be possible and what if maybe there was a global shutdown on the internet m, what will happen to bitcoin ?

My question was born out of curiosity and I’m not actually inclined on the technicalities of bitcoin and I just want to know the fate of bitcoin if there was no internet for maybe 24 hours

If the Internet is lost in 24 hours, the world has many bigger problems than Bitcoin. But if the Internet connection loss is only temporary, 24 hours, 48 hours or 72 hours but will resume, Bitcoin blockchain will continue after that. Meanwhile, people can not do bank transfers too if they don't use Satellite Internet from SpaceX company.

Your bitcoin in your non custodial wallet will still be your bitcoin. Only you can access it with private keys and Internet connection availability or loss won't cause you any loss of your bitcoin.

[Total privacy Bitcoin]: off grid Transactions LoRaWan/goTenna (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5230202.0).

Your transaction only gets confirmation if Bitcoin miners and nodes work so Internet connection is a prerequisite.

If the world temporarily lost the internet, probably nothing too serious would happen to bitcoin, but if the internet suddenly stopped working for a long time or disappeared, that would mean bitcoin would no longer exist. But the internet is like water in our world, without water the world will perish and if the internet is lost the world will stop developing and return to the stone age. So this scenario will never happen so you don't need to worry and think too much about this issue.

I can't think of any scenario in which the Internet could disappear from the world, even World War III wouldn't make it disappear. Unless we encounter the destruction of the earth like the time of the dinosaurs.

It will cause short term dump.

People will choose to withdraw everything that require internet connection e.g. cash in banks, digital fiat, stock, gold's IOU, Bitcoin, altcoins etc. This is a good time to buy Bitcoin at the dip since internet connection will not completely disappear, most people already gets addicted with digitalization.

As long as you hold your coins in non custodial wallet, you don't need to afraid since you will not lose your coins.

Internet is number 1 requirement for Bitcoin to continue, I've read some thoughts in the past about having radio waves and satellite signals, I'm not sure if that's doable but it seems promising as an alternative to the internet if ever doomsday will ever come. If it will come as a means of doomsday, I don't even think that there's something to worry with as we're all doomed by that time.

If the world temporarily lost the internet, probably nothing too serious would happen to bitcoin, but if the internet suddenly stopped working for a long time or disappeared, that would mean bitcoin would no longer exist.
Bitcoin remains to be existent even if there will be a shutdown of internet. Its operations, transactions and confirmations will be stopped if the entire world will have no internet at all. But with all the modern technologies that we have, it's interesting to read if there are good people working on this technology just to be prepared when the unexpected has come to the world as it won't only cover Bitcoin but also the companies that are solely reliant to internet for its daily operations.

Since after the .com bubble (internet) likely around 1999-2000 if I'm not wrong, when the digital world became important to everyone, the world we are living today is now one like the "Body and soul " where if there is no soul, the body becomes lifeless, and if you check, the world has becomes so much addicted to internet to the extent that it has become part of us that we can't go back or literally live without internet as almost everything we do in our world today (90%-95%) is hugely dependent on the internet processing, taking you for instance, The payment system, which almost everything is dependent upon for our day-to-day transactions hugely depends on internet to function.

The faith of Bitcoin without internet would be as much far worse than other things, in the sense that Bitcoin isn't a physical assets/money, as it depends on the internet to run.

I think we have seen many threads created on this exact topic and the answer remains that without internet the bitcoin network wouldn’t exist and aside that many things in the world will stop to function. Banks cannot process your withdrawals and as such even to get physical cash from the bank will be impossible except for those who hoard or stach fiat cash at home. Even places like hospitals will be in trouble since some machines works with internet connections there too. So bitcoin will be the least of all worries if the internet collapses except for someone who has its funds all in bitcoin

My question was born out of curiosity and I’m not actually inclined on the technicalities of bitcoin and I just want to know the fate of bitcoin if there was no internet for maybe 24 hours

If it is slightly for 24 hours some people will panic and when it comes up again I believe there will be FUDs spread about it and could lead to some investors taking some coins off and turning them to cash. On bitcoin network all transactions will just stop and continue later once it gets back. Since it is a total universal shutdown nothing will change in the network, if it is Some part that experiences that then after they have internet back they can just synchronize or update their servers back.

Bitcoin transactions will be pending then and its production will certainly be stopped while the internet connection is out. Hence, if there's no internet globally, bitcoin might never come into possibility.

However, it's not only bitcoin that will be highly affected but all those jobs that are powered by internet will never be possible by then. That's why I don't think having an internet shutdown will be allowed to happen, most especially nowadays that everything relies greatly on the internet, particularly our own communication with those people we want to have connections with.

No Internet, no live trading, no short term dump that only occurs after Internet recovery.

Don't lose your coins and can wait for for Internet connection recovery to see things in society includes Bitcoin market to operate again. Will it cause stock market dumps, I don't believe it will happen so thinking like it will cause Bitcoin dump is not convincing to me. It is too much fearful in my opinion.

The only thing happen on our bitcoin if that incident occur is we can't access our bitcoin. But it will remain there sleeping on where we store it if there's a internet disruption happened on our country or globally.

For sure we can gain access on everything we have if the internet providers will go back to its natural operation.

The only thing questionable is the price if we can still see the same value or if there would be big change to happen especially that there's no significant movement happen when internet is shut off when there's a crisis happening.

The bigger question you should try to answer first is, what will ever happen in this world that will take internet off, if it humanly possible the attack could have been done by now, so as long as internet can go off same with Bitcoin and that is why bitcoin is referred to as the currency of the internet, so let stop assuming the possibility of that and focus more on important issues to discuss about.
Internet is a global tool, and this have it basis on government since the government also rely on the internet to survive in it operations, so if government is not against internet, what then can be against it although I most say that the internet is the basis for bitcoin existence so if anything goes wrong with the internet, there won't be access to many things and that also includes bitcoin blockchain and wallets, so alot depends on the internet, that is why everyone is protecting the internet with all the strength in them, government taking the leads.

Remember that the internet disruption might not even be announced and it might just happen suddenly and as much as we don’t want this to ever happen doesn’t mean, it can’t be imagined.
I’ve read some comments here who already said that everything will be paused including bitcoin and the blockchain and it will be restored back to normal from where it stopped  and I’ve been wondering how possible that would be because that’s not actually the concept I actually had of bitcoin and blockchain.

I agree that, there might some sort of dumping maybe for short term because people might become skeptical about everything internet related money.

Agree with OP that anything can happen but honestly, I've never thought about the worldwide internet disruption scenario and I don't think it will happen. Because that would cause terrible damage to our world because our world is almost digitized and everyone is connected to the internet to a certain extent. But if the unthinkable does happen, I believe that bitcoin like other internet-based services will be temporarily disrupted and will cause some temporary panic, and everything will return to normal once the internet is restored.

Do you know that different countries in the world have their own power generation which is different from others but only few countries are depending on another country. If something bad happens in United States for example and the power supply was damaged, there would still be power supply in Asia, Australia, Africa, Europe and South America. Even there would be light in countries like Mexico and Canada which border United States.

If there is no power supply in the world with how this world is right now, what can cause that to happen would be what that wanted to destroy the world. And when no power supply again, I believe the world would have been destroyed.

First, can you imagine what will happen if the internet stops working? Not only Bitcoin will be affected, but many things will stop working, and it's going to affect everyone. It's going to reduce the productivity of many companies, and for those people that are keeping their coins on centralized exchanges, they will be stuck there till everything starts working perfectly again. But if you have your coin in a self-custodial wallet, you don't have to be scared because your coin is safe there until the internet connection is restored.

So far as I know, it is not possible for the whole world to go completely out of internet connection. It cannot happen; even if it does happen in the future, it will only affect some countries.

In my estimation, what happens to bitcoin if the internet is down would depend on what caused the disaster. If it was a massive distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack or a hack then the infrastructure would be intact and eventually the internet could be restored. But, assuming it was a Global War or a massive asteroid, or a Solar Flare, I think that the world's internet infrastructure would be too severely damaged to be restored fast enough to support any bitcoin transaction or humanities dire needs. At that point nothing would matter but survival goods and services.

Bitcoin is a protocol just like the mail protocol on port 25, or the file transfer protocol on port 21, bitcoin works as a protocol on port 8333, and it needs the internet to work fine, Without internet people would be able to create and sign transaction but not to broadcast it in the network. This is like trying to send an email without the internet, it is just impossible.

If the internet is just gone for 24 hours, then things will get back to normal when the internet comes back, all will auto-connect again.

Bitcoin is heavily dependent on the existence of the internet, and should it halt for a significant amount of time, major repercussions will ensue. Transactions will not go through, panic will ensue, the rest of us who kept our coins on air-locked computers will be good but with the prospect of never seeing nor being able to access the internet again, from let's say, a solar radiation that would disrupt technology as it stands today, the whole cryptocurrency world, as well as the whole planet is going to miserably suffer.

Bitcoin may not be pegged to any currency right now but it relies heavily on the internet. It's the medium at which it travels. Take the internet out of the equation and bitcoin wouldn't work. A small disruption or outrage wouldn't cause much problems, cryptocurrencies are made to be resilient to such after all. But prolonged outages? That's another story.

Why the hell not?

Bitcoin exists on the web, it’s a digital asset and should the internet be inaccessible for whatever reason, either some apocalyptic change to reset the world order, we wouldn’t have our way with Bitcoin.
Eventually, this can never happen. Bitcoin isn’t the only innovation to use the internet. It’s a network highly patronized by every field in our world as we have it, largely by the government as, through the armed forces, the very idea of the internet was birth.
The internet is going to be around for such a long time, get more advancements to it and so will Bitcoin.

If there was no internet in the entire world for 24 hours, trust me, there are greater calamities that will befall the entire world that is much greater than bitcoin, and this calamities will be so severe that the last thing on your mind will be bitcoin trust me.

First and foremost, you need a smartphone and or computer to access the internet even before we start talking about bitcoin, what about businesses, hospitals that rely on the internet to pass informations across the world that save lives, how about the banking systems around the world, government will be completely shut down without access to the internet because there won't be means of communications and transactions.

Again, trust me, if it happens that internet is shut down for even less than 24 hours, what will happen, the last thing that will be on your mind if bitcoin.

Bitcoin is useless without the internet, that's the impression we generally get. However, various developments and discoveries have been made and basically bitcoin can still be transacted without the internet so bitcoin will not be that easily abandoned without the internet. Of course you need some effort and some additional methods if you want to transact bitcoin without the internet, it's not as easy as you imagine but it's certainly possible.

When most countries in the world have adopted bitcoin in real use cases, believe me, bitcoin will continue to develop. Bitcoin was born because of an idea and this is for all groups so its development will be pursued as much as they can. Developers will come along and try to do something to make bitcoins still useful without the internet, so don't worried.

The Internet can never go down for 24 hours, like nothing can make the Internet go down because it's just like walking in a dark place and nothing will happen to Bitcoin because the Internet can never shut down unless humans stop existing. But let's just answer based on imagination, if the Internet goes down for 24 hours, all digital assets including Bitcoin will go down and other physical financial institutions both online and offline will be halted. Then there will be a decline in transactions for that 24 hours because people can only make use of physical notes which will become scarce within that 24 hours however, let this just be an imagination just like I said but there should be no occurrence that will lead to shutting down the Internet even for an hour because almost every technology now depends on the Internet to function so if it goes down we should be expecting disaster.

@Obari try and edit the link you provided in the OP so that it can be clickable just like I have edited mine. The area you wrote Thread

It will cause short term dump.
I think he is referring to Bitcoin itself and not the price. From what many people already answered, nothing will happen to Bitcoin because there will be no transaction as transaction require internet connection. So everything will be on standby until internet is restored. The idea of dumping does not even make sense because internet disruption will hinder everything including banking, electricity, telecommunications and others. Since it is peculiar to Bitcoin, it will not lead to a dump if everything is restored.

Exactly! Without the Internet, everything would go down.
Medical records are kept online. Nowadays when you get admitted to a hospital they have everything like your blood type, disease history, recent body mass, height, last prescriptions... Without the network they have nothing. They have to do all the tests and don't even know if you're insured.
Banks have no information about your accounts.
The police won't know if the car you have is yours, if you have driving license... You can carry everything in your pocket but people usually don't. In the EU we don't need any documents because everything is in your personal ID number. You just give that to the police, or your doctor and they can access all your personal files.

Yes, the Internet can temporarily go down due to a virus or a strong EMP, but most people would not care about bitcoin at that point.

I have seen this question come up before, and i keep wondering why you think it is BTC you should be worried about if something like that happens, everything that uses the internet will be affected, and we use the internet for nearly everything these days; you would not be able to spend your fiat currency as well, except the one you have at hand before the 'apocalypse'.

Yes i call it an apocalypse, because anything that would make the world lose the internet would be something that causes utter destruction and ruin.

If there is global internet shutdown, of course the very first to be affected is bitcoin, and all jobs that are operated through internet. Bitcoin won’t function as a currency nor an investment for 24 hours, simply because it will remained inaccessible. Bitcoin transactions will be put at stake, and unless internet connection won’t be back, the function of bitcoin will remain abnormal. So definitely, if internet will shut down, bitcoin and everything that is operated through internet will be put at its worst situation, the reason why having internet shutdown should always be prevented and should never ever happen as much as possible.

It is scary to think, and I hope it never happens because since COVID made us believe in the thinking that we can be kept indoors, anything is considered possible.

Bitcoin heavily relies on the internet and will be affected just as every other thing that depends on the internet to function fully.

If there will come a time that there will be no internet for some hours, no matter how little the timeframe might be, it’ll affect the whole world and not only bitcoin. It means the fate of bitcoin will be shaking just like every other thing that requires internet to function. There are many reasons why the internet cannot stop functioning for that long before of the global effect it’ll have, so bitcoin is safe because internet cannot just go off and not come back again. The fate of bitcoin is still valid as long as the fate of other things that depends on internet is also valid.

Well since you do not want to involve the technicalities of a scenario like that, bitcoin will absolutely be access denied by holders because the internet is the powerhouse to navigate through your wallets where your bitcoins are stored as digital currency it is which is transmitted through the blockchain on  wireless interface for accessibility and execution of transactions.
So without the internet bitcoin is totally shutdown.

You are correct that electricity is an essential need. Thus many things cannot work without it. However, having a global power outage might be difficult. This is because countries have different sources of power generation. Solar, wind, dams, and gas, are different means of generating power. Anyway, the focus of this thread is not power outages but internet connection failures.

The Internet can never go down for 24 hours, like nothing can make the Internet go down because it's just like walking in a dark place and nothing will happen to Bitcoin because the Internet can never shut down unless humans stop existing.
Nothing is impossible. The internet can go out for more than twenty-four hours. The recent global cyber outage which was caused by CrowdStrike issues that affected banks, airports, schools, health services, etc is a clear example that anything can happen. This biggest IT outage in world history was caused by a simple faulty software update. We live in an uncertain world where nothing is guaranteed.

My question was born out of curiosity and I’m not actually inclined on the technicalities of bitcoin and I just want to know the fate of bitcoin if there was no internet for maybe 24 hours
Bitcoin fate will not shift one iota from its place if there is no internet for 24 hours, but if the internet goes down completely for a long time or worst case scenario disappears from the face of the earth, then we will say goodbye to Bitcoin. You can no longer buy, sell, or carry out any transactions related to Bitcoin without the internet because when Bitcoin transaction data is sent to miners it requires an internet-supported device.

Bitcoin transactions rely heavily on the internet as the main stream to send data to miners, so the role of the internet in Bitcoin cannot be separated. The internet is the mainstream that allows the exchange of bitcoins across international borders and the internet is also what facilitates the flow of transaction data and interactions between users. As a digital currency, Bitcoin really needs the internet to make it easier for users to use it for trading and also as a means of exchange for purchasing goods and services.

Not only Bitcoin, but many industries globally are affected by it and you can imagine how chaotic it is. For Bitcoin, maybe we will see a fairly deep dump, because the Bitcoin network will definitely be affected by this and that will make many investors panic and we can see that there will be a lot of speculation circulating. But I feel that Bitcoin will survive even if many people try to leave the network and then it will recover once everything goes back to normal. However, in more severe cases, for example the internet really doesn't exist, we might not be able to use Bitcoin anymore, but that is quite impossible, so no need to imagine that.

It would be difficult for Bitcoin to maintain the consensus for the blockchain's state. If there are no communication allowed whatsoever, then there wouldn't be any interconnectivity for transactions. People may mine on the blockchain but because they cannot maintain the same state across different people, then Bitcoin wouldn't be synchronized.

I believe that there were initiatives to maintain it on a radio network. In terms of bandwidth, I think it'll be sufficient but the worldwide connectivity would be quite an issue.

what I feel is that all this time we buy bitcoin and sell bitcoin of course using the internet network and of course without the internet or the internet being disrupted then there will be some people who will panic and as long as they can sell bitcoin they will definitely sell it because of course the internet is disrupted or the internet is dead in the world will definitely make some people panic to sell bitcoin and ultimately the price of bitcoin will potentially fall.

but if, for example, before the internet goes down, the world community is told that the internet will only go down for 24 hours, of course it won't have much of an impact on bitcoin because what some people will definitely do is hold on to their bitcoin tightly, but of course if that happens, there will definitely be people who will panic and sell. However, it is possible that there will be those who take advantage of the situation when BTC drops in price and will buy it at a cheap price if the internet, for example, is only down for 24 hours.

However, if for example there is news but they are not informed about how long the internet will be down, then the price of BTC will definitely fall a lot, but it seems unimaginable if that happens, but what is certain is that it is not only BTC investors who will be confused, but all businesses that need the internet will also be confused.

but if there is no announcement first and the internet immediately shuts down, I think there will definitely be a lot of people who will be sad and panic.

If the internet gets disrupted, Bitcoin will be affected because Bitcoin is a virtual currency and the internet for it is like oxygen for us, humans. If the internet gets disrupted, we won't be able to use Bitcoin until it gets back normally. It's possible to make offline transactions but we need on-chain confirmations that require internet. Not only Bitcoin but if the internet gets disrupted, the only thing that won't be affected will be cash. Everything else will become completely useless until the internet comes back. That's why I am against CBDCs and internet money, it will be enslavement, we need cash.

I don't think any major significant thing will happen to Bitcoin if the internet is shutdown for 24 hours. It will just be that transactions on Blockchain and other internet services will be put on hold for that period in time, which will lead to disruption of most bitcoin activities but i don't think any destruction will be made.

We are not praying for that kind of situation to occur in recent times because a lot of businesses that depend solely on internet services will be affected globally because it will be like putting the entire universe on a pause, for me it better imagined than for the reality to occur.

No you can't. Banks do not have local copies of your account records and without said records they cannot access your accounts so - no withdrawals are possible.

As others have already said, if the entire internet goes down the immediate effects on Bitcoin will be nothing in comparison to what happens to a myriad of essential services.
I don't know details but I thought that at each bank office, they must to have their local database center and if Internet connection is lost, they can retrieve customer data information from their local data base. It is so inconvenient but I thought it can be used because banks can not close their bank offices and say sorry, we will open it tomorrow or next days when Internet is back.

Exactly! Without the Internet, everything would go down.
It will create big problems not only Bitcoin but like Covid-19, the whole world would not go down and can not operate without Internet. There will be solutions, temporarily even it is very inconvenient.

If Internet shortage is resumed shortly after few hours, they can temporarily close bank services for a while but things last like some days, banks have to figure out other solutions for customers.

Simply no one would be able to do any kind of transactions in or out of bitcoin. In the 24 hours of no internet, I can imagine that the value of bitcoin will remain the same as I have said no one can buy or sell bitcoin. However it is possible that as soon as the internet is back, people take out their bitcoins in fear and anxiety of losing their money. The market may experience a huge crash after the internet is back but most likely the world will be suffering from all kinds of consequences not just bitcoin.

Bitcoin is as a digital currency that networks on p2p transaction through the plant of the internet so, if there is no internet, so also there will be no bitcoin but whenever the internet is restored, so also bitcoin will be restored.
So literally bitcoin is an electronic currency that can only be determined to be accessed and in used by the internet.

This is not new to me, what do you expect with anything that is reliant on the internet? Bitcoin is not perfect and this is another evidence of that. But it's a very good development and of course in this modern day, which financial service can be successful without the Internet? So this is not peculiar to Bitcoin. In fiat arrangements, they might try to use physical assets during times like that, but can that serve the global population anymore? This is especially true when we are already cashless and heavily reliant on digital financial transactions and services

You can imagine what recently happened with the global IT issue, a lot of operations and services had to stop, including several flight delays. Let's just pray that we do not have a general global internet outage, which is more reason why the world is not depending on a single source for the internet.

If the Internet is shutdown globally, if would affect everything in general. Basically, everything involving technology is connected to the Internet and the Bitcoin blockchain is not excluded, people can't access their business, gadgets, hospitals might stop functioning properly in terms of keeping records of patients, infact it would cause havoc and even affect the social media which is like a bridge connecting people's businesses online and so forth, well I don't think it's possible for the Internet to shutdown entirely cause it could mean the end of the world so It could only be on a temporary basis due to a glitch in network but the Bitcoin in people's wallet would be safe just that traders won't be able to access various exchanges and people won't be able to access the Internet to transact with it's Bitcoin blockchain.

If bitcoin has a huge crash, I believe other financial markets such as stocks will be even more serious. But honestly, I don't believe this scenario can happen because the importance of the Internet today is no different than the backbone and lifeblood of the world. Internet and electricity are an indispensable part of the modern world in which we live, if either of those two things disappear, our world will be destroyed.

Anything can happens if internet shutdown in many places. We can not use internet as usual and will be like in an old time before internet invented. Bitcoin can not be used for temporary waiting internet connection back to normal. While we can makes ourselves busy doing many things before we can use internet again. We don't know how will be the fate of Bitcoin in the future because we will not live forever and there still possibility to people in the future to experience that. But people will still be safe because they can live normally even without internet among them. Perhaps young generation will not accept the situation because they lived in the internet era.

If the internet experiences an indefinite blackout then I'm sure it will affect Bitcoin, but if the internet blackout is temporary it won't affect Bitcoin any further.
Assuming that an internet outage will occur for 1x24 hours, the market will experience pressure which will cause panic. If some countries can still access it, I am sure panic will continue because people think there is a serious problem that will occur.

Some people who understand this will definitely look for solutions such as radio waves or satellites, but this is complicated for some people who don't understand.
But with technological developments that all require the internet, there may not be an internet blackout because there are many losses that will be felt by anyone.

When the internet down all over the world - then bitcoin transactions will definitely be disrupted. The big impact was the loss of bitcoin prices due to a truly massive panic - it was inevitable. This is why it is recommended that one should not invest all his money in bitcoin without considering many things - including the consequences of a simultaneous internet outage throughout the world. We never know whether such a case will happen - but before it does, consider all possible risks.

Transaction will return to normal when the internet return – but the market has been impacted by the massive sell-off. Additionally - there are more risks to consider when you become a bitcoin investor, so sometimes asset diversification is important.

If there’s a global internet blackout, bitcoin will never be seen functioning properly but everything will be put on hold, just like all other internet powered devices will no longer put into action but will remain standstill and will only be back into normal once the internet regains its connection. So it’s clear that bitcoin will be highly affected without internet connectivity as well as all cryptocurrencies.

However, so far this has never happened globally, but only seconds or minutes and then the internet connection is back again. And thinking that a lot will be affected aside from bitcoin, I guess the whole network will never allow this to happen.

When the internet is down then all crypto transactions which includes bitcoin will stop until the internet is restored. I think that nothing will happen to bitcoin that you own that is stored in a non-custodial wallet that you are using but since the supply and demand didn't change then there will be a panic which will make people who owns Bitcoin sell their assets due to panic when the internet is restored. If I have bitcoin and after the internet is restored then I'd definitely sell more than half and keep the rest while waiting for news and updates so if the price will decrease a lot then it's a chance to buy more bitcoin that will cost you less means you'll have more btc than before.

If the Internet is lost in 24 hours, the world has many bigger problems than Bitcoin.
Absolutely so. At that moment, the world will be the last to pay attention to the “pause” in the BTC-network, because the focus of the attention of all humanity will be directed to solving completely different problems that have arisen.

But if the Internet connection loss is only temporary, 24 hours, 48 hours or 72 hours but will resume, Bitcoin blockchain will continue after that. Meanwhile, people can not do bank transfers too if they don't use Satellite Internet from SpaceX company.
A failure in the Internet (terrestrial) will create a temporary problem or “pause” for bitcoin, but the orbital Internet could act as an alternative backup. Although, theoretically, even satellite Internet is not invulnerable to problems and failures.

Your bitcoin in your non custodial wallet will still be your bitcoin.
In the absence of the Internet, it will be possible to pay immediately with these same wallets with bitcoin (transmit seed phrases), but what the exchange rate will be in the conditions of a (long-term) absence of the Internet is already a mystery. :)

Only you can access it with private keys and Internet connection availability or loss won't cause you any loss of your bitcoin.
It won’t lead to loss, but what to do with it in a potential post-apocalypse (when there is no Internet) and will it be possible to live until these bitcoin needed and it will be possible to make transactions again. :)

This is the kind of comic nitpicking.

Your transaction only gets confirmation if Bitcoin miners and nodes work so Internet connection is a prerequisite.
Therefore, it turns out that bitcoin (attention, electronic digital money) ceases to perform its functions during the absence of the Internet, which actually makes it a useless thing.

When we think about the future of bitcoin on the internet, we should also think about other things whose existence depends on the internet.

If the internet is disrupted globally, everything will stop functioning, and there will be complete disarray everywhere that the world governing body will be forced to fix because there's no medium of communication between people. People can't reach out to one another fast and simple way as they are used to.

That being said, the Internet is like water the whole world survives on. Taking it out means that you have taken away so many things from the world. We need it in our daily lives

Internet is an important contribution in today's civilization without which one cannot imagine a day. I have felt difficult how important the internet is now because the government in my country anti-Bangladesh movement has kept the internet off in the whole country for a week due to which our entire economic system has suffered huge losses. My country has made losses only from the freelancer sector like 3 thousand crore rupees per day. It is not possible to imagine a day without internet because I felt very helpless without internet. Without the Internet, the whole world is immobile, as well as the Internet has a very important impact on Bitcoin. Bitcoin will not be important if Bitcoin cannot be traded and Bitcoin will become an unimportant currency.

Without a network, internet businesses and investments will not function since they are interconnected. Without a network, there will be no exchange that allows you to acquire bitcoin and invest for the long term. So the network is really vital to the word because without it, no technology can function and no one can hear about what is going on. Bitcoin is accessible online, but if the network is down, it will not function. Nothing will happen to bitcoin when the network is disrupted, but he will not receive value and will simply remain without doing transactions because the network that allows it to function is not performing well. Most businesses advertise online so that people know about products they are selling and if network is not working I don't think business will continue going well. is because of network that why many people no about bitcoin and investing for long term and they are profitable on it. So bitcoin won't be affected but you can't get access to it anymore if they is no network on it.

Exactly it is. Where there is no internet occurrence, bitcoin will no longer continue its existence. Not only that, but the whole cryptocurrency space will never be functioning anymore since everything on it only are solely operated by internet, without it, they’ll end up dead and valueless. But I really think this is never gonna happen at all, because we will lose not only bitcoin, but everything here on earth that only live through the help of internet connection.

How can it cause a short-term dump?  When people decide to cash out everything just to get their online funds out?  It will cause a massive crash, IMO.  Since people as you stated lost faith in the internet, they will avoid anything that requires it as plague.  That is if people panic and lost its trust in the internet connection.

But in reality, I do not think that the internet disruption will cause any negative effect on Bitcoin since the problem does not lie in the Bitcoin network but in the internet.  The disruption of the internet for 24 hours will surely make companies around the globe lose billions to trillions of dollars but I do not think Bitcoin price will be greatly affected.  Bitcoin transaction might freeze or pause until the internet connection issue is solved the next day and I think the Bitcoin trade will continue normally.

Internet permanently shutting down is another story.  Obviously, all the online activities that requires the internet will cease to exist and the Bitcoin activity is not an exemption.

The loss of Bitcoin prices will makes massive panic in everywhere, that is the biggest impact that we can see. The Bitcoin transaction will stuck for temporary until everything is back normal. But if we can stay calm and not panic, we may have a chance to see a good chance to buy Bitcoin when the situation is normal because the price will be at the lowest price that we can not imagine. Yes, we must calculates how much money we should use to invest in Bitcoin and only use the money we can afford is the best advice for us.

We will not knows what will happens to Bitcoin after the situation is back to normal. Perhaps the price will stay at the lowest price and difficult to increase or Bitcoin price will directly surging to the highest price. One thing that we must do is not panic and stay calm.

The internet starts working again and everything gets back to normal. No big deal. I don't know why many people keep asking this question.
The destruction of the electricity grid would probably be a way bigger problem for Bitcoin/crypto, but with the adoption of solar panels and batteries, many crypto miners are becoming more and more independent from the grid.
The idea that the global internet would stop working for a given time frame seems absurd to me. Maybe the internet could stop in a certain region, but it definitely cannot shut down at a global scale(unless Armageddon is happening).

and what if maybe there was a global shutdown on the internet m, what will happen to bitcoin ?
This is one scenario I am very sure can never happen, the global internet connection is not like pandemic that could be generally affected at once in the entire world, because if you meant a country, then the likelihood of such scenario is very possible, unlike when it refers to global community. Because just as the internet connection is been controlled by the Space Satellite, of which if one is likely to have had an issue,  it's likely to have been fixed before 48hrs,  because if the Internet goes offline just 1 hour, I'm sure more than 10 Trillion dollars will be lost, since many sectors depend on it, both Bitcoin mining, aviation industry and social media giants such as Facebook and YouTube.

The existence of Bitcoin is vested in the smooth running of Internet connection, which if there is not internet, then there will definitely be no Bitcoin, just the same way there will be no social media and many other one million companies whose services rely on the Internet

Everyone should know this, unless we are attacked by aliens with better technology or the apocalypse hits...that would be the scenario where the internet would disappear. Also, I don't think there's anything that could cause the Internet to go down globally because we have millions of different providers around the world...We don't just depend on one company or one organization to get the internet.

CrowdStrike is just a cybersecurity company, they do not represent anything for the internet system worldwide, their incident is not a sign for us to worry that the internet may also have problems like this.
If I were worried, I would worry about whether bitcoin will have problems in the future instead of thinking that the world's Internet will have problems.

Well, how disrupted??
I've never heard of such, so I don't think it's something to worry about.

But any ways if it really does get disrupted then there's a possibility it could affect BTC! Because literally almost anything revolves round the internet.

I am a Bangladeshi I think the whole world knows about the condition of Bangladesh.  The anti-quota student movement in our country caused a lot of problems due to which the internet has been cut off all over the country for the last 7 days here.  How long I got 1 hour of internet.  And today I got the opportunity to use this forum by connecting to the internet of emergency services hospital.

I read this situation and realized how important the internet is for bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.  Bitcoin cannot be expected to exist without the internet.  Due to the bad situation in our country we are facing a lot of problems financially but we are not able to sell the bitcoins that we have because of the internet cut off in our country.  And when the Internet takes off, many will sell Bitcoin for its poor economic condition.  So I think internet problems can affect Bitcoin.  I say this from real evidence

Thank you for calling my attention to the correction.
You are welcome

I’m not actually getting your point right as you said you’re against internet money and I’m wondering if you’re also against bitcoin as it is also some sort of internet money ?
Just asking out of curiosity
Hell no, Bitcoin is everything that made me who I am today, it significantly affected my life in a positive way and there is no way I am gonna forget or hate it. I am only against a cashless society, I don't want our world to be cashless because if it becomes cashless, then we all will be in huge trouble. If the government doesn't like you, they'll freeze your assets and you'll be left without a penny. If we keep cash, we won't face a similar problem because no bank can freeze my cash.
I love Bitcoin but it's still not safe in a cashless society because governments gain too much control over it. Mixers got banned, and blockchain analysis companies are rapidly improving, it's getting hard every day to get financial freedom with Bitcoin, that's why I want to have cash beside it.

Considering the advancement of technology worldwide, having a total Internet globally blackout might not possible, yeah any one can have a contradict opinion to the op opinion but in the case where it happens definitely it is going to retard everything has to with internet which Bitcoin is not going to be an exception. However, in as much as we can imagine such scenario no one will ever wish such thing to happen as we are far gone utilizing the benefits of the internet such that if it happens it is going to be disastrous and negatively influence life generally.

I have also heard about the situation in your country in recent days and I send my condolences to your country, especially to those who have been shot dead by the police during recent protests.

Through what your country is going through, we can confirm that without the internet, bitcoin would be useless. It's true and we should accept that bitcoin's existence is completely dependent on the internet.

By the way, as far as I know, the curfew has been lifted and schools will reopen soon, and I believe that communications and the Internet will be restored soon. I hope you return to the forum as soon as possible.

I've also been lucky enough to have Bitcoin affect my life financially. No I didn't make millions or even 10s of thousands, but it definitely helped me cover some things which were not possible if I didn't save in BTC.

My dream was 1 BTC when I started in 2017. That was based on $10k BTC price.

I don't have 1 BTC today but collectively, because of BTC, I have benefited more than $10k in total (vs if I saved only in fiat), if you want to count financially.

But like you, it's everything else I prefer. The good friends online. The good and kind people I met on this forum. I still talk to friends about these random strangers I know from forum. Who had no business to help me yet they did. That's not really Bitcoin but the spirit that makes Bitcoin what it is.

I believe that Bitcoin will still exist, because no one will be able to turn off the Internet all over the world at the same time and maintain this state. There will definitely be a small country or group of people who will not allow the collapse of the network.
I think that it is even possible that even a complete hurray of the Internet would not stop Bitcoin, because then the miners would simply pause and wait for the Internet to launch. But all such events are a fantastic story and nothing more.

When people think if the Internet seize for sometime it will entirely shut bitcoin down as if it is just only all about bitcoin. If the internet eventually shutdown there are more harms to happen that will affect life. The internet is part of life right now which humans can't really do without. I think if the Internet is no more for sometime and after awhile it comes up, bitcoin will survive it but so many lives will be lost. If this happens let's think of what life will be like and not what will happened to bitcoin.

As far as the earth still exist there will be Internet because it will be very difficult for earth to exist without life, the internet exist as oxygen in this present age of life.

Obvious answer is yes because most of the transactions are done through online. This is a downside to all digital currencies including fiat and blockchain based. Would be a huge problem I believe and some people would be selling all of their crypto holdings upon being aware of such risk, if ever such thing will happen.

What's being discussed here is just the idea or possibility. We cannot be too confident of technology given that it has limitations and one of the biggest is internet connection. Indeed experts and governments won't simply allow this to happen or at least last for long but being aware of this tendency would mean a lot still so we shouldn't be just fading on such tendency. Be prepared at all cost and be preventive of the worst scenarios.

The people of the world could not know what happened in the current time with the quota movement in Bangladesh because the Bangladesh government had created a kind of conspiratorial environment by turning off the entire network system. Therefore, the people of the world could not see the picture of ongoing torture in Bangladesh. For a week, the entire network system was turned off in Bangladesh so that images of torture in Bangladesh were not uploaded to YouTube or Facebook. I doubt if there is such a tyrannical government anywhere else in the world.
I can't express at this moment how uncomfortable we were at home with no network for a week. But we have realized very well that a moment cannot pass without network or internet. Without internet the whole world will come to a standstill and even a single second cannot be imagined without internet. Bitcoin is never imaginable without the Internet because Bitcoin is an Internet based digital currency that is managed through the Internet.

If the internet service is down for 24 hours , then only the transactions of Bitcoin will be stopped and nothing else. Otherwise there is no guarantee that the Internet will be available at the same time everywhere in the world. Somewhere or the other, the internet service may be disrupted due to various problems. But there is no need to panic over such outages. Because without internet especially technological development is not possible nowadays. If the Internet temporarily causes problems, I don't think it will affect anything for Bitcoin. Because it will be active again. I think it is imaginary to think that if there is no Internet then what would be the status of Bitcoin? Since Bitcoin runs on the Internet, it does not exist without the Internet. And in this age it is unimaginable that there will be no internet.

We cannot even think of the online world without the internet. A 24-hour internet shutdown not only stops bitcoin transactions but also adversely affects the economic sector of the country as we have seen in a country called Bangladesh where internet services have been disrupted for the past seven days. Many members here have also mentioned it.

No it is not imaginary at all because I have seen it myself. Perhaps considering the advancement of technology worldwide, we may wonder how internet service can be disrupted for so long in a country. Due to lack of internet connection we were not able to do Bitcoin transactions even P2P transactions. If you were a citizen of Bangladesh you might have understood the situation there even noticed that it is impossible to do all online based activities without internet service.

But let just imagine that internet is taking down, not only will bitcoin go down, but even the government of some countries will also go down too, so yes bitcoin will die a natural death if the internet becomes unavailable.

I agree, if unfortunately the internet has a global problem, governments will find a way to fix it as soon as possible because it will cause losses beyond our imagination. The scenario of the Internet being shut down worldwide is very unlikely, I also don't think it can happen.

Nothing will happen to the bitcoin network if the internet goes down for a short time but it will cause as much doubt about the existence of bitcoin as the OP is thinking. If that actually happens then we will most likely face a dumping situation as many people will lose faith or not want to bet too much on bitcoin because of its limitations related to the Internet.

Bitcoin transactions rely on the internet to be processed and verified by miners. Without internet access, these transactions can't be broadcasted or confirmed. Similarly, Bitcoin mining operations, which need constant internet connectivity to function, would come to a halt. The network of Bitcoin nodes, which ensures the integrity and synchronization of the blockchain, would also be disrupted, potentially leading to fragmentation and inconsistencies in the blockchain.

Looks impossible but having internet blackout in some countries can happen because I heard on the news there was no internet in some part of Asia last week as the politicians shutdown the internet connection in the country and if there was anyone in the country that wanted to make use of Bitcoin, he would had not been capable of doing so during this time that internet was down. I also noticed when I am having a poor internet connection I can not send out Bitcoin from my wallet if I wanted to but it does not stop me from receiving Bitcoin although I will only get he notification when  my internet is having a stronger signal. Internet is important for Bitcoin transaction to be successful and Bitcoin along with every other thing will be affected if the internet gets disrupted.

Correct. If the internet dies, perhaps civilization as we know it will be destroyed, because almost all systems now use the internet so we really need the internet. It could be said that it is impossible for the internet to die, even if the internet dies, there will definitely be many people who will immediately want to fix it.

The internet being down for 24 hours will of course not affect bitcoin in general. However, even if for example the internet shuts down forever throughout the world, of course this will have an impact on Bitcoin of course. Because Bitcoin is a virtual currency, money originates and is transacted on the internet. Maybe this is what makes many people think that if the internet dies then that is Bitcoin's weakness. Besides, even if this internet outage problem occurs, maybe you don't need bitcoin anymore, you just need a hoe and an axe. :D

We have seen the whole crowdstrike situation, and nothing happened to bitcoin, which we can assume that it is not going to be an issue. I understand how that may feel that way, but in general it won't be a big deal at all, we will just stay that way.

I think the best way to go about this would be just making sure that we deal with something that gives us a good return, and for that to mean something we need to realize that bitcoin isn't really impacted by any of those. For that reason I love bitcoin and investing into it is better. Even banks and fiat world gets corrupted during those times, and that's of course terrible but at the same time we are talking about bitcoin which is unharmed during the same time. Like people couldn't fly because systems were down, and yet look at bitcoin and how that didn't get any shred of impact.

When you have something that great, it's hard to say that you are not going to invest into it, what else would anyone look for when we are talking about an investment? If you want something sturdy and something that can't be meddled with by any dictator or political leader, then you have it. Bitcoin is untouched and can't be better, it's better than everything else.

I think this idea is something that is worth discussing and not just letting it slide because we think the government won't let the situation last for a long time since it will also affect them and their works but the question now is this, what becomes of bitcoin if the government fails to restore the Internet within a short period of time? are we going to wait till the Internet is restored or is there there any thing to be done so that bitcoin transactions will still be going on smoothly this is the most important thing I think we should find out because just as you said, we need to be prepared for worst even though the worst is yet to happen in the world right now.

Absolutely
We need to know what the other option is because I’ve also seen a lot of response from people who strongly believe that, the internet can never be shut down globally no matter the circumstances and I think they’re not open to accepting the impossible because this is planet earth and absolutely anything can happen when the global shutdown of the internet can be possible though their might be an urgent solution but whatever the case might be, a global shutdown of internet access can still be possible.

What we’re trying to know, is what happens to KuCoin if the internet shutdowns and for those who have coin in physical wallets, what is their faith and hope of even those who have in online walkers

If we are talking about a temporary shutdown of the internet, like 24 hours as you said, I think there wouldn't be much happening in the market when the internet goes away because no one will have access to their assets or the markets, and things will start from where they were left, however, there will be a lot of panic among people if there is no internet for about a whole day, and out of that panic, a lot of people might start selling their assets as a first thing when the internet comes back, and that is surely going to affect the market, badly.

If people don't panic, keep holding their assets, and do what they were doing before, the market won't be affected at all. Besides Bitcoin and blockchain technology, there will be a lot of panic in the world in general if there is an internet outage for such a long period, countries will lose extremely large amounts of money because of it.

There has always been other options in any eventuality, that is;

You having to diversify and not rely on only Bitcoin or cryptocurrency for an investment.  Be open to other ways one can invest and also make profit or earn a living. Besides, it would be advantages to see Bitcoin for a currency and even as you DCA, you do that with what you could afford to lose.

I am one of the persons who don’t think there could be any apocalyptic end to the internet. Come on, the world as we have it depends on it. It could only be improved and not wiped out.

If I may ask this, what do you think could ever result in the complete shutdown of the internet?
Would it be some Alien invasion of eat,
The armageddon as religious beliefs have it,
World war whatever ever where nations would be open to nuclear weapons,

Just what do you think could result this because, all elements as highlighted would still be internet dependent.
We all know how, it’s proposed that Alien technology could be. It would be an enhancement and am not saying, it’s real or would happen but, just hypothetical speaking.

You are right in it. Having a temporary shutdown even just for a day will definitely affect the whole blockchain of bitcoin since all investors would certainly panic knowing they can’t access their investment, much more if the internet shutdown will last for a week or month. Although hodling is the key, but we all know how these investors would turn out emotional if negative things will run in their minds, it’s either they can’t access their bitcoin investment anymore and so they have to sell their coins as early as possible, or some might remain calm but deep inside they are also triggered by internet shutdown if ever it won’t be back anymore.

Nothing will happen to Bitcoin if the Internet is shut down for some hours or days, if there is global shutdown of the Internet Bitcoin will gain temporary stability because demand and supply will tend to zero or buying and selling will tend to zero and Bitcoin current price will be stable and when the Internet is back everything starts working, you won't loose the number of your BTC in your wallet and no one can access it, at that point on the Blockchain no execution of transactions and approval of transactions or earlier initiated transactions will be all held pending just like in buffer until the Internet restarts, this scenario will affect virtually every thing and not only BTC and we don't pray for that to occur at all...

Yes, if the internet system goes down worldwide, Bitcoin will have a huge impact, but only transactions will be affected, not supply or demand. Due to political reasons in my country this month, the entire internet system was off for more than 10 days, so I could not access Bitcoin and Bitcoin forums. Not only me, over five million users in my country, none of them could transact bitcoins.  As a result, there was no impact on the price of Bitcoin because only Bangladesh internet system was off for 10 days, in this case only Bangladesh cannot have any impact on Bitcoin.  But if the entire internet system were to shut down all over the world, there would be a huge impact on Bitcoin.

If the Global internet goes down for a prolonged time - which is exceeding unlikely because it is designed to eventually route around problem areas - the effect on Bitcoin should be the last of anyone's worries. Literally everything from banking systems, stock markets, television/streaming services, logistics, long distance phone service, etc will be down as well. The fact that your tx's cannot be processed will be irrelevant until everything else gets back online...

A global shutdown of the Internet may be imaginary. We can't even imagine it. The internet system in the country you mentioned was down for a few days so people there couldn't access bitcoin forums and exchange bitcoins simply because of no internet. However, the country did not have internet for a total of five days but broadband net was provided after five days which brought back normal comfort among people and Bitcoin traders.

If there was no Internet system in Bangladesh then Bitcoin might not have been affected because Bitcoin is still not legal in this country. Despite Bitcoin not being legal, there are millions of members in this country who are Bitcoin traders whose activity was affected due to lack of internet.

I understand where you're coming from OP and I had a thought about this internet going off for sometime and how things will be like concerning Bitcoin. When you talk about Bitcoin on how it will be like maybe to the world I don't think anything big is going to happen like an obstruction to cryptocurrency, it will still be there waiting for it to start running again (after the internet issue is being fixed), after all when there was no internet or Bitcoin everybody was living a simple life like those things don't matter, the highest that can happen to Bitcoin is that, it will look like it was paused like all transactions and all that for maybe the supposing 24hrs (like you said) until the internet comes back to life, it doesn't mean that's the end of Bitcoin no, internet issues can't drag Bitcoin to where it can never be heard of.

I think the only thing that will be affected first is its value and that is ; it can become stable because there is no way people can make a live transaction. I say live because it is still possible to make an offline transaction but it will not affect the price of Bitcoin.

Bitcoin itself can't get affected by the phenomenon but if the problem persists, then I'm afraid that Bitcoin might be forgotten by the public. That's going to be the reason for its collapse. What you said is true that there is always a possibility and this is why there are now generators, solar, wind, water, etc... energies and other back-ups just in case there is a power interruption or something which can cause for the internet to shutdown, so there is no way that there would be an internet blackout even for 24 hours only because you know the internet now is very important.

Majority of the people in the world rely on it at all times, this is why the experts protect it at all costs. The only way that I know for the internet to get shutdown (not only for 24 hours) but permanently is when there is a huge asteroid that will hit the earth, though it's not just the internet that will get shutdown but also everything in this world.

Frankly, I don’t think it will be easy to go back to the era where there was no internet and everything still goes smoothly because currently now, it seems the world is already very versatile and an obstruction on the Internet for a longer period than expected  will not just only affect bitcoin but will affect a whole lot of things.
I read a recent comment, where one user of the forum said the internet was shutdown in their country and I think I can’t recall the actual poster but I think the user makes updates on airdrops in the forum and if we can ask the user what the experience of not having internet looks like and you’ll understand that, internet seems like modern day oxygen.

Have you also thought of the possibility of people dumping bitcoin out of fear of uncertainty, we as bitcoin enthusiast already know that every dip is an opportunity to invest but meh as humans, the fear of the unknown is always held at some corner of our heart.

Exactly but o think transactions and how to secure one’s coin will be topmost priority to anyone who has reasonable amount of coins in their portfolio.
On the other hand, we all know that it will be really hard for the possible of not having internet globally to happen but we’re all assuming

Those who are Bangladeshis can answer your question very well and if you are a Bangladeshi then you have got the complete answer. I am a Bangladeshi, the situation in my Bangladesh has reached extreme levels these days, here a few days ago due to student quota movement, internet was shut down for five consecutive days, due to which we were completely isolated from the online world. After five days without internet, I realize that nothing is possible in the online world without internet. So it is not possible to use Bitcoin without internet. These five days I feel so helpless that I cannot express in words. Every Bitcoin user has suffered greatly because of the internet shutdown for these five days, not only Bitcoin users but every human being has suffered greatly. So being a Bangladeshi and out of internet I understand that without internet Bitcoin would be completely stagnant because without internet how would you transact and work. I repeat I needed some money in these five days because I didn't have internet I couldn't sell crypto currency and I couldn't withdraw money so this means that if there is no internet all over the world bitcoin will stop working.

Definitely it will affect a lot but all I'm saying is that no matter how long it takes before the failed internet connection comes back nothing will happen to Bitcoin, the highest that can happen is businesses will be down and it may not even take too long before they get it fixed, since we are now used to the fact that the internet has a greater role to play in our lives it can't take long to sort out the issue.
I get your point, bro if such a thing happens like globally I think it will be like a blackout to many. The thing is that we have attached ourselves too much to the internet that if it goes down it will affect every single person but I assure you that it won't take long for it to be fixed (I say it again) because it will affect so many things excluding Bitcoin, people might lose their lives (those travelling by air or otherwise) due to this issue. And you'd agree with me that how it affects Bitcoin would be that last thing you can think of but I pray it doesn't come to light.

Today as we know digital world everything transaction and communication is done through internet. In that case, if the internet is shut down, then of course, not only Bitcoin, but all the world will face huge financial problems. And the question you have asked I think the internet will never be shut down worldwide because in today's age internet is the life of every country. And nothing will happen in the world that will cause all internet systems to shut down, and if that happens, it is possible that the value of Bitcoin will drop, but it is unrealistic. Since internet is the life of every country in today's world, no country can run without internet, so internet will not be stopped in any way around the world. Moreover, today the world has progressed a lot depending on the internet and the internet is the most important role for the advancement of this world. Every country's government depends on their internet the most, and they give a lot of importance to it, so that there is no possibility of internet shutdown in the future without any impact on the internet.

.
I also think temporary internet shutdown would cause a lot of panic and might affect market. When internet is down investors ca not access their accounts or trade so nothing happens. But when it comes back on people might rush to sell their assets which could cause market problems. If investors stay calm and do not sell market will probably be okay. A long internet outage would affect not just market but the whole world causing big financial losses. Bitcoin and blockchain technology might be affected too but the biggest impact would be on the world.

My question was born out of curiosity and I’m not actually inclined on the technicalities of bitcoin and I just want to know the fate of bitcoin if there was no internet for maybe 24 hours

Your explanation is very good and makes sense, friend. Yes, if for example the internet is down for 24 hours, there will definitely be no buying and selling activity and of course what makes the BTC price go up and down is because of buying and selling transactions. However, there will definitely be an impact if the internet is good again and I agree with your opinion because there will definitely be the potential for the price of BTC to fall because it is caused by some people who panic and feel that BTC is very high risk and end up selling their BTC.

but of course some people will have the potential to take advantage of this situation and buy BTC at a cheap price and of course there will also be people holding onto their BTC, yes basically there will definitely be a fight between sellers and buyers. but I predict that even if there is a decline, I am sure that the price of BTC will recover because I am sure that as long as the internet is still there and even if the internet is down, it can be turned on again. I am sure that people who adopt BTC will definitely not decrease and ultimately the price of BTC will remain safe.

Yes, of course apart from BTC it will also have an impact, but of course I hope that the internet will not die and that the world will always be full of peace

It would depend in which part of the world is affected because if for example the location has most miners and if internet is down this might mean longer waiting times for confirmations to happen...or say if this affected area has most Bitcoiners & traders this might mean less price movements for the duration of the blackout but I don't think there might be so much damage to the crypto ecosystem unless it's politically motivated!!!

Btw, recently was made aware of a country world blackout in some Asian country and most crypto businesses run by some of its citizens came to a standstill and all users of the services had to wait for the internet to be restored..which meant it was a temporary disruption going on.

The Internet is one of the main sources of communication and financial transactions of mankind in the world. When you want to trade from one place to another you will definitely need internet even if you are trading bitcoins you will need internet. If the internet were to be shut down globally, every country would surely suffer a huge loss, but this curious thing will never happen. The government of every country values the internet sector the most due to which they never want a country to suffer huge losses so the internet will never shut down. However, in the country where I live, the internet systems were down for a week, although now we have regained the internet, but my country has suffered a lot of losses financially, but the government has no problem with it. This one week every person in my country was disconnected from internet and also no transactions could be done through internet especially I couldn't keep track of what position bitcoin went to. However, the internet will never be shut down worldwide, so if there is a politically adventurous, shamelessness government like us in any country, then the internet will be shut down in that country.

Yes its never going to happen especially that internet is very important on each country since to many things will be lost if this incident will happen so for sure government also avoid to make this incident to happen.

But if there is a political crisis like civil war or anything related to that situations or also natural phenomenon like solar storm which has been tackled up since it can disrupt the internet and other services this incident will happen.

Although those things is far to happen especially that we are now in modern ages and anything issue provably can be avoided. But one thing is for sure there bitcoin will remain, but for its value if those cases happen I guess that is the questionable matter.

We also can't be sure because the internet satellites in space and the internet cables in the ocean can still be damaged by things we don't expect, although it might take a long time to see them damaged. I believe the world is already interconnected today with various technologies that have been discovered and developed so well, but minor disruptions that can cause too big an effect on the internet still have the possibility to happen. So the best option to not be disturbed by it is to start looking for solutions to anticipate it from the start.

I cannot express in my own words how it is going without internet for ten days today. Not due to any natural calamity but due to the revenge of the government, WiFi and mobile networks have been shut down for ten days today. Using a VPN to access Bitcoin forums is absolutely necessary. Also we are having a hard time doing bitcoin transactions and buying and selling. In this situation I realized one thing that no matter how much technology is developed in the world without internet system we cannot spend even a single day.
