Title: Posting limitations for Newbie account in Archival
Post by: fillippone on August 04, 2024, 10:32:00 PM
Are there limitations for a newbie account to post in archival?
I have a “brand new” account (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3619057) for testing purposes, and I am trying to use it on an archived thread, but it cannot post.
He can post elsewhere, but not in archival, in this thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5461981.0), specifically.

This was discussed many times no mods or admins responded but I guess brand-new and newbies are restricted from posting on the archival board because that board can be use for spamming or make nonsense thread.

According to them the only allowed rank to post there are Jr. Member above.

Similar thread here Why can't newbies post in the Archival board? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5451086.0)

Archival is not where to make posts initially but it is more like a trash bin. As a trash bin, it is where you move your initial posts from other boards to Archival board.

It is a special limitation on newbie account but with higher rank accounts, Archival board is for trashed posts, topics, not to create content originally. If you want to do this, use draft or text editor on your computer. Higher rank accounts can do this in Archival board, but this practice is not recommended.

Archival board is like an unofficial trash bin where you store your old threads which you no longer use them now.

Some posters use the Archival board as a location to make a new thread, new post to test their graphics, contents but it is not the initial and main use case of Archival board.

You can always make your thread in other boards except two boards (Ivory Tower (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=251.0), Serious Discussions (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=250.0)) which restrict newbies, then move that thread to Archival boards.

- You must be at least a Jr Member to post in Serious Discussion, and a Full Member to post in Ivory Tower.

Newbie has many restrictions. As far as I know they can not post url, they can not post image, they can not post in serious discussions, their signature does not allow a url. New learning that archival is not allowed to post too. Can you check off-topic board?

By the way, since you have the opportunity now to check the newbie limitation I guess you can share us what others restrictions you face. It can work as a guide for newbies to check everything in one place.

Thanks, I looked for it, but I somehow missed that thread.
I will do something different then to check what I wanted to check.
My only suggestion is to include this in the limitation list of the Newbie account.
Locking the thread.

I've just whitelisted your newbie account. I'm not sure if it works, but if you can post now, it must have had restrictions.

Edit : Sorry, there's nothing more I can do. The Archival section is stronger than me :).

I thought it was only Serious discussion newbies and members are restricted to but I guess Archival board is also on the list. Maybe you can be posting in other boards till it can be able to post in Archival but I guess you have your reason why you just want it stationed in that section.

Do we all believe that there could be some existed newbies here that had diligently studied the forum very well before beginning to post here just as some crypto investors has achieved some great knowledges before joining the bitcointalk forum?
So then I wonder why newbies will be restricted from posting here atleast realizing that archival are more basically of reference posts which users can visit and make their own points of views if not for any, this isn't a serious discussion board per saying.

I think, there are some limitations for newbie not to post on the archival section, because it require a high rank that is above newbie so that they will understand what they are creating as a thread for other members to understand. Yes, newbie can post on off topic or beginner & help section which is very easy for them to achieve what they want to improve in the community.

Archival posts are not created to be read by others. It was originally for moderators to test certain things and a spot to move obsolete posts to and lock them. It is now generally used to test codes before posting it in the designated board.

I'm thinking if there is no exact description of limitations for certain ranks it was possibly not a part of it at the beginning but was added later on for certain reasons.
