Title: Request for Input: Best Place for Bitcoin-Related US Presidential 2024 Discussio
Post by: ditec_wrogn on August 06, 2024, 04:53:52 PM
Hi everyone,

I hope you're all doing well. I've noticed that the "Bitcoin Discussion" board is currently filled with discussions about the US Presidential 2024 election. I'm unsure whether a Bitcoin-related US Presidential 2024 discussion would fit better in the "Bitcoin Discussion" board or the "Politics & Society" board. Here are the definitions provided by our moderator, mprep:

Bitcoin Discussion - "General discussion about the Bitcoin ecosystem that doesn't fit better elsewhere. News, the Bitcoin community, innovations, the general environment, etc. Discussion of specific Bitcoin-related services usually belongs in other sections."
Politics & Society - Discussion about politics, recent event in the world - both related and unrelated to Bitcoin.

What do you all think? Where should this discussion take place?

It depends on the content of the topic. It can be on bitcoin discussion, speculation, politics & society or gambling discussion board. If it is releated to bitcoin, post it on bitcoin discussion board. If necessary that it should be moved to the appropriate board, it would be moved by a moderator.

I personally get pissed when I see political statements towards bitcoin get too much attention in bitcoin discussion when we all know it's never to the benefit of the bitcoin community, always their selfish interests.

Although sometimes some discussions are more bitcoin related but politically incline so I do get confused too whether it belongs there or not but it's most times up to the mods if they don't find it convincing for bitcoin discussion they would move it.

I voted the politics and society board because from the definition that's where it's best fit.

If the discussion is entire about his political agenda and vote, I don't think anyone will post it on bitcoin discussion; even if it's posted with the right report to moderator description, it will be moved to politics.

The threads about Trump that I have seen on the bitcoin discussion are talking about his plans and promises to Bitcoin and whether they can be fulfilled or if there are just mere political promises, which I believe as long as Bitcoin is part of the discussion it's okay to say that it's on the right board, although others will argue otherwise.

If you look at the two boards you highlighted you can see that the discussion can definitely fit into just any of the boards highlighted. There is also related discussion like this that can fit also into speculation board. It depends on the content of the thread like price predictions been speculation Board, news reported been bitcoin discussion board.

Best thing to do is to report the thread when you think it doesn’t fit a particular board and the mods will evaluate it

Sorry for this off-topic discussion.

If presidential candidates are using bitcoin to campaign, did you know what it means? You are right that it can be for their selfish interests, but using bitcoin to campaign out of all the currencies in this world means something about bitcoin.

Some of these discussions also take place on gambling discussion board too ;).  If you want to discuss on betting on the US Presidential elections, that is the place. :)

I think we need to see in which context the discussion is taking place. If it is purely about the elections, it should be in the Politics & Society section but if the discussion is about the speculation of bitcoin price concerning the result of the election, that can be discussed in the Speculation section. Even some topics may fit in the Bitcoin discussion board too.

We cannot say that the US election can fit only in one board. It can fit in multiple boards too.  :)

Many people are trying to find connection between Bitcoin and Trump because he said something about  Bitcoin in elections campaign. Probably such topics have right to be in Bitcoin Discussion, though Politics and society is more appropriate place for it.
And I wouldn't get hyped about it much - he just said what people want to hear, politicians do that. Remember what he said about BTC when he was president, his words were opposite completely.

I am not sure we had so many topics about Bitcoin and the US elections four years ago. The only reason why this issue is now a hot topic in Bitcoin discussion is because Trump has chosen Bitcoin as one of his campaign agendas. All the topics about the US elections that are in the Bitcoin discussion thread deserve to be there because of their content. They contain some campaign promises that will affect the Bitcoin market, so they should be discussed in that board.

Others that relate to just politics are rightly posted or moved to politics and society boards. If you check the Politics and Society board you will also observe that it still contains many topics about Trump and the US elections. Any post that doesn't deserve to be in Bitcoin discussion will be reported and moved to the appropriate board by moderators.

If it is releated to bitcoin, post it on bitcoin discussion board. If necessary that it should be moved to the appropriate board, it would be moved by a moderator.

And I suppose as long as the topic isn't too heavily weighted toward politics that the context of bitcoin becomes lost in the discussion--which it frequently does.  Honestly, I'm leaning toward putting all the political chit-chat in P&S rather than Bitcoin Discussion.  And besides, I suspect most of it will die down once November has come and gone (I hope, I hope).  It's tiring on the eyes seeing so many threads about Trump and bitcoin or democrats and bitcoin or whatever.

I am not sure we had so many topics about Bitcoin and the US elections four years ago.

Pretty sure we didn't, but that was because Biden wasn't in office and the US government didn't have crypto in their crosshairs as much as they do now.  This upcoming election is a pretty important one.
