Title: bitcoind running in Azure w/Low or No Connections
Post by: tktappa on August 17, 2024, 02:28:06 PM
Hi!

I am hoping someone can help me figure out why I have low or zero connections on the bitcoind I am running in an Azure virtual machine on Ubuntu 24.04. I have a fixed ip address of 172.190.226.230.   After about 20 days, I have most of the block chain downloaded (815119/857192).  However, I never see more than 10 connections, and often zero connections (bitcoin-cli getconnectioncount).  I have Azure "Network settings" rules for 8333 inbound and outbound.  I can see the port is present when I do a portscan, but bitnodes.io says my port is not accessible.  I do have dnsseed=1 in the bitcoin.conf file.  Any suggestions on Azure changes or bidcoind changes would be very much appreciated.  I hope to ultimately run a lnd on this VM as well.

Thanks you,
Tom

PS - Sorry in advance if this is in the wrong place!

Standard B2s (2 vcpus, 4 GiB memory) Ubuntu 24.04
Azure->Network Settings:  Inbound - 1000, AllowAnyCustom8333Inbound, 8333, Any, Any, Any, Allow
Outbound - 1001, AllowAnyCustom8333Outbound, 8333, Any, Any, Any,Allow

I believe I have found the problem.  I changed the Azure firewall rule from "Any" protocol to "TCP".

My number of connections increased immediately, and my bitcoind process is now reachable from bitnodes.io.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to read and consider my post.
