Title: Sending Beam token to a wallet
Post by: Trebor123 on August 28, 2024, 10:12:38 AM
Hi, I have some BEAM on an exchange and want to send them to my cold wallet. The wallet says they can only be sent as ERC20 tokens but when I try sending from the exchange, I am only allowed to select BEAM from the 'Network Drop Down Menu'. The exchange tells me that's my only option, to sent them on the BEAM network. What do I do?
To complicate matters more there are two BEAM tokens. I'm holding the one that has the little blue triangle as a symbol

Thanks for any help you can give me.

On Binance, Binance, Bybit, Bitget and Mexc, the token can be withdrawn through the ethereum ERC20 network. Although, option for BSC (BEP20) network is available on Binance and Mexc for lower fee.

You can convert the coin to another coin of low withdrawal fee on the exchange that you are using. There are some exchanges that USDT and USDC are of low fee. Then convert the coin back to beam on any of the above listed exchanges. Then you can withdraw the beam through ERC20 or BEP20 network.

On all the exchanges that I checked, I did not see anything like the beam network.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I think it's getting worse for me.
My BEAM is on the Bitforex exchange. It went down around 5 months ago, without warning and without any updates as to when it would come back. Suddenly the site reappeared but only for withdrawals. No trading permitted. I can't switch to BTC or USDT/USDC etc and withdraw it that way either.

Above you can see the message I get when choosing the network. The only option is BEAM. I have non idea what to do or where to get advice.
Cheers

You can read read this guide which can be helpful:
https://beamx.gitbook.io/desktop-wallet-user-guide/receiving-beam
https://beamx.gitbook.io/desktop-wallet-user-guide/sending-beam

How to download and install Beam wallet:
https://beamx.gitbook.io/desktop-wallet-user-guide

I saw an address starting from 9. Which means it is neither ERC20 nor BEP20. The wallet there is an official wallet for beam. But you need computer for it.

I'm slightly confused by the Beam network settings. Probably that's why I never bought any

Having the same name and ticker, that's the reason many people get confused with these two types of assets. I'm sure what you mean here's this Beam (https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/beam/).

For others to better understand the discussion here, I've included the CMC pages for these two assets:
1. https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/beam/
2. https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/onbeam/

The first $BEAM is the $BEAM intended by @OP, it's a crypto with its own network, you can read more about it here (https://www.beam.mw/). While the second is a token that's on the $ETH & $BNB network (multi-chain).

Back to @OP's question and the solution, your wallet doesn't support the first $BEAM, they only support the second $BEAM. As far as I can see, the first $BEAM isn't yet supported for cold wallet storage, it can only be stored in hot wallets, you can see the various OS they support (https://www.beam.mw/downloads/) as the first $BEAM storage.

You're welcome, mate. I just realized that you're a newcomer to the forum, a little advice for you, never hesitate to ask anything about crypto on this forum, everyone here will try to help as best they can. Then, if you feel you have got the answers to your questions, you can lock the topic (this feature is at the bottom left of your interface) to avoid future responses that might be spam responses.

Thanks. I got into crypto about 4 years ago in a small way but soon realised it's a complicated investment class for the layman.
While some of the projects have obvious potential, is there really going to be large amounts of retail money coming into the space when buying/selling/holding crypto is so un-user friendly? Longing for the day when seed phrases are obsolete and practises become streamlined. Rant over!
Cheers  :)
