Title: Tired of gambling - whats your reason? and whats your baby step to quitting?
Post by: Troytech on September 07, 2024, 09:25:36 AM
Yesterday a friend of mine visited me and the look on his face was not appealing at all. I knew something was bothering and that was why he came. Although I thought he had some financial issues and would need my assistance, I was ready to hear him out. Not until he opened his phone and showed me his 4 months of gambling history and how he had lost so much in gambling and it's affecting his business and him literally. For personal reasons, i dont want to mention the amount he lost but just believe this dude has lost a fortune there.

As we continued our conversation he pleaded why he came he wanted to disable anything that had to do with gambling on his phone. He had deleted his gambling app but he still gets notifications from these gambling platforms. So i helped him restrict emails from this platform, i disabled everything ads on his browser so that most websites wouldn't make him see gambling ads.

Today i was surprised to see him, back to my house again saying he was watching YouTube and everywhere was filled with gambling videos and gambling. Please what should i do? Because i told him not quite long to completely delete his YouTube.

He can go for YouTube premium. He will not see ads. Or he can use Brave browser freely which will also show ads.

But the best is for him to be able to control himself and not let the ads or anything that has to do with gambling to affect him. I was once an addict but I stopped gambling for a year. Started to gamble again and when I noticed I am kind of still addicted, I stopped gambling again for like 3 months. Then I started again but knowing that I have control over it.

What I realized was that if I do not stop wasting money on gambling, it will destroy my life or cause setback for me, so I had to stop the addiction.

He has to re-login with another email to his YouTube and that is because the current account that he's got there has already in the algorithm of YouTube to blast him with gambling videos. That's how his activities were before and YouTube just saved his behavioral browsing through it. And even if he'll buy a new phone but he'll log in with the same email, expect that there will be the same gambling videos that will appear on his feed and will be suggested by YouTube.

He can go for YouTube premium. He will not see ads. Or he can use Brave browser freely which will also show ads.
He will not see ads but he'll still see some suggested gambling videos. It's not about the ads but the algorithm that YouTube saved based on his friend's search and watch history.

I believe you. He had been watching a lot of gambling tips and videos of how to be successful in gambling on his YouTube. This is the solution, i pray he doesn't comes to meet me again talking about this. I will reach out to him thanks again.

But the best is for him to be able to control himself and not let the ads or anything that has to do with gambling to affect him.
I jsut realized now. Even after taking these steps to quit hi gambling addiction if he does not discipline himself he may end up still gambling little by little. It may not be online but in an offline casinos in his local area. Gambling addiction can be very difficult to quit, it will take time as one cant quit it immediately. Same way he started gaining interest in gambling gradually that is the same way he has to lose interest in gambling gradually until he has completely get over it.

It is unfortunately very difficult these days for you to avoid seeing gambling advertisements totally because they are everywhere on our mobile phones on television commercial adverts and even people around us are talking about it. If you are developing the resolve to stop gambling you have to have a strong mind towards it because if your triggers are advertisements that you are exposed to then you must find a way to possibly deal with it even if it is doing away with social media or your smartphone for a couple of weeks or days. If you are extremely addicted already to gambling you may also require extreme methods to break free from that addiction.

There is a role self-discipline has to play in this issue about your friend's decision of wanting to stop gambling and in avoiding seeing anything gambling related ads on his phone. Since he has taken it upon himself to no more gamble the next phase is to for him to face his fears and stop running away from it.

Facing his fears has to do with knowing that this thing is ruining his financial life and since he has realized it then what is needed of him to do is to strengthen his resolve of killing his interest in it whether or not he encounters gambling ads while using his phone.

With how the internet functions today, you can hardly browse the net for 30 good minutes without having ads popping up on your screen even when you never subscribed for it. It is then in our place to be discipline enough to act blindly to those ads which doesn't promote our development.

If he truly wants to quit gambling he make a decision in his self and also underlines 1,2,3 or more things needed to achieve this decision. If he is not convinced yet and comes to your house a second time with the same problem but in a different platform it shows that deep inside he is somewhat addicted to gambling no matter how much money he has lost and how it has affected his business and relationship for the bad. First step is to completely desire to get out of gambling and without the first step all the following steps are irrelevant as they will never solve the problem, sure somewhat they may extend the time in which this person does not gamble but in the end I am pretty sure as long as he is not completely convinced he will be back to his gambling ways sooner or later.

It's perfectly reasonable to receive gambling ads; I'd personally install an application, similar to parental control ones, to disable any searches or websites related to gambling. I'd also clear any cookies, cache, and temporary files on his device and delete his advertisement preferences through his settings. That would clear any gambling advertisements, provided that he doesn't keep searching for anything related. Hopefully, he realized that his addiction was hurting before it was too late. Try to support him as much as possible, and if you see that he's struggling, head to a professional.

He can't totally stay out of media related gambling displacement as long he's accessible to the internet. Even in your localities, he still can't seize to see or hearing relatedly to gambling in as much he's connecting with the public by which everyone has their lives to live and gambling could just be their choice which your friend can't change for thent.
Until a gambler has decided to quit gambling, he'll not stop gambling but would always be excused of not getting himself in orderliness of control.
So your friend just need to be mean and resist whatever temptations that'd lead him to gambling again.

That's how cookies & cache work, they still store the behavior of your friend, so that the advertisements that appear on Youtube still smell like gambling. One way to remove traces is to clear cookies & cache, you can also reset certain applications that have the potential to provide gambling related things. Don't forget for Youtube, tell him to create a new Gmail - Youtube account, so the algorithm won't recognize his old behavior.

Sign out. Use incognito. Clear cookies. I believe those will stop or reset what google thinks you're interested in. That, or your friend watched a gambling vid and youtube caught that so now they're just recommending that lol. God knows what actually happened but at the end of the day, it's still up to your friend to control his urges. If he can't, then I believe it's best to cut off the internet say maybe for a week or two. Come back and help tally his results by looking at his watch history and stuff like that.

There might also be extensions that help any general related gambling (or just outright remove anything that has the word "gambling" in it, or any related words) out there. I'd say make your friend look it up.

I probably haven't experienced all the sorrows of gambling yet, because I'm just starting to learn about it, and I also have some advantages from games. So if we say that I'm going to part with gambling, it's too harsh. I know how (at least for now) to control my emotions and stop in time, but I agree that you shouldn't get too carried away with them because the habit is formed very quickly, and there are not always enough funds for the game.

Smart ads will keep giving him gambling related content due to his activity. I often received this regularly but I’m fine with it since I can handle my gambling activity on my own. I think factory reset the phone is the easiest way to remove all the track for gambling activity in able to have a fresh start.

I’ve been on this same spot before and losing huge amount is always the number 1 reason on why players quit on gambling. It’s just odd to see someone have courage to show his actual losses to other people because it’s typically shameful to admit huge loss.

Sadly our reality is that gambling is here to stay. We'd see it everywhere - the ads online and offline, people of all age groups talk about gambling, in the bus, on the street, church, clubs. What we can do is live with this reality. Your friend should have a healthy balance of the things he can control and that would minimize any personal conflicts he would face. The best he can do is reduce the number of gambling ads he sees by blocking that's what is in his control. Then he has to employ other measures to fight his addiction which is through getting another healthy habit to replace it.

I prefer having another thing to do. Ask him what he likes to do. In my case, I like playing console games and PC games and that gets my mind off in gambling. It's actually the best possible way to keep his mind busy because most of the time the alone time, loneliness, and boredom are the triggers to think about gambling.
Keep him busy, make him do something else especially what he likes the most and I doubt it's just gambling that he wants. It's nice to know that there are friends watching over their other friends but you must also not baby him and keep it all straight that what he is doing maybe excessive.

Trust me your friend will not be able to 100% avoid gambling if his intention is only to avoid things related to casinos. Because the intention to stop does not always have to complicate your life. Do it slowly, if you bet 3 times a week then try to be 2x to 1x and everything needs a long process. Return to your friend's goal if you want to avoid all kinds of temptations of gambling advertisements in a gradual way such as busying yourself with new activities, but if you still feel that it is not enough, it means he has to go to the mountains without internet access and start living side by side with nature.

It's not like I'm discouraging anyone from gambling cause I do it too but responsibily and I try to make sure that I avoid being greedy or bet on very risky games that would increase my losing streaks but I think anyone who's gambling habits is leading to situations as that of your friend should either quit entirely or pause for a very long time. Well you've done more than enough to help him quit or stay out of gambling and some of the things you did to help him are what I would've suggested but I still got another suggestion, if he's a sports lover especially football he could also avoid some sports channels that could trigger that gambling urge or remind him of teams he betted on or if possible restrict the channels from his decoder or any means he use in viewing them for the time being. However, all this suggestions might be helpful but it won't completely stop him from thinking about gambling since he could come across bill boards advertising casinos by the road side or within his environment so the best option I could insist on is to visit a therapist.

Lets just say it's a step in the right direction!

It starts with admitting there is a problem and seeking help to close family and friends, and seeing that your buddy came to you should mean a lot...and if it's so bad that his business too is getting financially  stressed perhaps he should call it quits, and it won't be an easy journey either because the temptation to go back and gamble will still be there.

As we continued our conversation he pleaded why he came he wanted to disable anything that had to do with gambling on his phone. Deleting the red app YouTube  ::) not best option as this place is full of useful stuff... perhaps redirect the algorithm by watching other videos unrelated to gambling and all this will change...Maybe start with car restoration videos, or how to mine Bitcoin etc

I want to be straight on this one. As long as his addiction is affecting his business and family (wife and children) he should quit gambling asap. After business it is family first. As a ambler before satisfying your addictions that you're not burning your profits from your business entirely on games, and ensure your family is perfectly taken care of. Providing everything they need first. Anyone gambler who fail to put these things as priorities shouldn't continue gambling as it will shatter his family and business then there will be nothing left in the world for him.

Today i was surprised to see him, back to my house again saying he was watching YouTube and everywhere was filled with gambling videos and gambling. Please what should i do? Because i told him not quite long to completely delete his YouTube.
How useful is this to him? Because the idea of deleting YouTube is bad. If he feels the YouTube account on his phone cannot stop feeding him with ambling videos, then he can try creating a new email and switch the account into a different account in the YouTube app. The reason i suggest this is because it will take some time at least a month before YouTube can change the algorithm of the video feeds you get if you still choose to continue using the YouTube account.

If indeed he has the intention to stop doing gambling, it will not be difficult to eliminate his addiction or bad behavior. In addition, whatever he did would not produce better results if he himself still could not hold himself from gambling because the key was in him himself. With those of you who help him is good because indeed we have to help each other but if you have helped a lot but there are no posotive results I think you might feel upset.
Someone who is addicted will be easy to stop or leave the habit of wrapping if from himself has the awareness to quit the disease. Maybe you can keep him away from gadgets and the internet because even though you delete advertisements that often appear it will not be fully able to make him stop because I believe he himself is involved on social media while there are many advertisements there and seem difficult to eliminate.

That's what algorithm does to our lives. But if he has finally made the decision to really quit gambling, he could easily brush them off and don't mind them. He just has to focus on something. Eventually, those ads would go away.

He also needs to unsubscribe his email from newsletters and promotions of gambling sites. He can delete accounts or restrict himself indefinitely from gambling platforms. He also has the choice to delete all backups of account names and passwords to his gambling accounts.

It's not going to be easy but if he is serious in this I know he can do it. With your help of course and the help of his friends and family.

I suppose he is using Android mobile which has Youtube installed on default. He can permanently clear up his mobile from this app by proceeding  to Settings menu. The other radical option though quite expensive one for him is to change his Android device to iOS mobile. The latter doesn't have youtube installed on default. But in my view the matter is not in device he exploits but his mood which is already twisted by gambling. I would advocate the visit to psychologist, the space where he could receive some help.

Nowadays, platforms quickly learn from your habits, directing content marketing to what interests you. If you block YouTube, you will probably still see gambling ads in a Google search, on websites you visit or on your social networks.
An adblock helps, but changing your email with a clean account is probably the best option.

Even so, this will not be completely foolproof, because nowadays gambling has a lot of media power and is an indirect part of the lives of even those who do not like this type of entertainment.

My advice is for your friend to seek professional support so that he can better deal with these temptations, because they will disappear completely.

You can't get away from ads!

Sure buy youtube premium or better if you're on android install Adguard, it will kill every ad in every browser but what about real life?
If you watch a match there will be ads in the background on betting, there will be betting ads on the players shirts, and if you drive around town you will see gambling ads and casinos, you will never be able to completely outrun them, plus there will be people talking about gambling sometimes right beside you.

There is no magical erase button that would clear everything out of your life, what he needs to do is to learn to ignore it and if he can't seek professional help, I've said it numerous times, if quitting gambling once it became a problem would be that easy then it wound;t be a problem at all in the first place!

Or it can be faster by not letting him have access to anything that has to do with gambling.

Unless you plan on moving to a ranch in Montana where you don't get internet or running electricity you won't be able to exclude everything that has to do with gambling.
You will have first to quit watching sports alltoghter because I bet (pun!) people will at least once talk about the odds of the two teams playing!

You can see a lot of advertisements online, not only on YouTube because there's an algorithm that follows the interests of users accessing the web. So, if your friend is a gambler, it's likely that he accesses a lot of gambling sites, which shows in his interests. I think taking a break from the internet might help. Going out and spending time with friends to stay busy with other things could be beneficial. The only solution here is to learn how to control ourselves. That can be learned and should be learned by the person struggling with addiction so he can return to gambling without creating problems for himself and those around him.

From what I see in your friend, he is willing to give up his gambling habit because he sees that it has caused a lot of bad things in his life, so he himself is making a way to get out of it through a friend like that. You approach him because he knows you can help him as a friend.

And the good thing about you, Op, is that you are doing your part as a friend just to support and guide him in the change he wants to happen, so keep it up, pal.

Well, for me I would say that you should live him to decide by himself since you have already advised him not quite long and he didn't not want to change, though one thing about someone that is already addicted to gambling bet is that their is know amount of advise that you would give him that we make him to change unless he decided by himself, if not that I don't really think if it'll be possible for him to stop gambling. Because I have witness something like this before from my friend too he is also addicted to gambling in such a way that when ever they give him money for important thing he's going to use it for gambling and I always advised him to change he refused, until I decided not to give him advise again. but thankgod today he has finally realized that what he was doing was not good.

Brother, the most important thing to get out of gambling addiction is your own will power. You have to harden your mind, gambling is something that once you get addicted to it, it is very difficult to get rid of it. For now he should forget about gambling, and for that it was a good decision to disable gambling platform ads from his device's browser.

However, in the case of YouTube, it is a bit difficult to stop the ads, because you will always watch videos about the topic on YouTube, according to YouTube's algorithm, YouTube will give you more ads about that topic.

So now create a new gmail and login to youtube with that new gmail so that no previously watched videos will be in youtube history, from then on he can start watching some positive videos on youtube, like learning some technical subject or better. Some videos, and no gambling related videos in it at all.

As a result the YouTube algorithm will start suggesting you only educational and technical videos, and no gambling related ads, because in my experience I don't watch any gambling related videos on YouTube, so I have never received any gambling related ads from YouTube.

Also he should keep his will power and mind set clear, he should never even think about gambling, he should keep himself under control. And he should think deeply about the financial loss of gambling, (which he has lost) so that he is motivated to stay away from it.

Op's friend is undergoing a tough time in scraping out his addiction for gambling, because he cannot see a place where gambling ads won't appear on his screen. I wouldn't encourage that he stop visiting the internet, as it'll have little impact to his problem—gambling ads are everywhere we can have our eyes on.

Going with your advice is the best for the addiction victim, he has to spend more time with Op or someone who would advice him like Op does. If he stay all alone, nothing would stop him from gambling, due to boredom. He's only bored, from his reactions, I do not think that he's in gambling to chase losses, the problem with him is that he needs something that'll actively distract him from gambling.

Gambling has been a spiritual food passed down through many generations, today, this dish is not only introduced at the local level, it is spreading everywhere that we can touch and in fact gambling is an object that cannot change much, only the people around it are what will change, instead of disconnecting and considering gambling ads as a fear, we should raise our spirits and face them by thoroughly getting used to them, seeing them too much will become boring but best of all, don't let someone who is addicted become more addicted. Overcome bad habits by building familiar images but the prerequisite is a dedicated support to awaken before being fascinated.

Moving on, while the technology are quite restricted (especially internet).

I think, village with some internet access are quite low could be option. IMO, gambling just like addiction drug you need to step away at least minimum a few month without playing them. If you still have access internet, and easy things in your area is gonna to really hard. So, moving to some a place (mostly with a really low internet connection) would be good + someone manager your income.

Hopefully help.

If seeing gambling advertisements can make people gamblers to come back to gambling then it will be better to quit social media because their is no how if one is active on social media and won't come across gambling advertisements. Quiting gambling may not be easy but if one really wants to quit it should be a decision that remains firm and never to return back to gambling.

The challenge that led to the decision of quiting gambling should be a reason never to go back to gambling. The best thing to do after quiting gambling is to stay away from anything that can change the decision to go back into gambling.

you don't just come out of addiction by uninstalling and avoiding any information that's related to gambling. That's more like trying to touch the top of the problem while ignoring the root cause that has made him addicted to gambling. First off, for you to come out of an addiction that has gotten to a stage where any detail that reminds you of the act tries to compel you to go back to that act, you have to gradually take reasonable steps that will help you come out of those act on a gradual bases. Speaking up to people like your friend did is good but that doesn't solve the problem of addiction, it's good to take actionable steps like reducing the amount you're using for your gambling and gambling less often than usual, that way, you can gradually reduce your rate it gambling because it's deficult to entirely stop gambling.

       -      OP's friend's addiction is a bit too strong, and his friend's worth of gambling seems to be huge. The good thing for OP is that he is open to listening to his friend's problems.

Just move on and don't stop to lose the addiction his friend is going through. This is just what I see as the best way.

I don’t think people will be surprised by how much money your friend lost here because there are a lot of stories that could be even worse, not that it’s a competition, but it’s always going to be a sad story knowing that someone got into an addiction and lost a lot.

For the steps on making someone stop gambling, it’s always going to be about the trigger. What do people do that makes them gamble? Like holding their phones? Maybe that’s the baby step that you can take.

You have done the right thing by deleting everything that can connect your friend to gambling, one of which is by cleaning and disabling ads in the browser settings, and for the next problem about the Youtube channel that you said I think you can also do the same thing by deleting all search data on the youtube channel or you can also tell your friend to log out of the youtube account and log back in with a new account, because usually the ads that appear will always be related to your search data, and I am sure that your friend has often searched for everything related to gambling in his youtube search, so when you change accounts I think you shouldn't find gambling ads or another option is you can subscribe to youtube premium where you will avoid all ads.

He can go for YouTube premium. He will not see ads. Or he can use Brave browser freely which will also show ads.
It's not just YouTube, it's on everywhere so the only option is to turn off the internet that gives complete avoidance from any of them which is not practical though so what we need to do is deal with that by treating the underlying condition which is his addiction not the symptoms. He can get help from community groups or government help center but the most effective way is to rehab that's way effective than anything we can think of.

Everyone will experience different feelings about or why they are tired of gambling, some people are tired of gambling because they have previously experienced bad luck due to the impact of gambling that they often play so they want to change for the better and avoid gambling activities.
There are also those who are tired of gambling because they often lose when gambling and they realize that they have lost a lot of money there.

In my opinion, the first step that must be taken if someone wants to stop gambling is to realize it with a strong belief in understanding and awareness that really wants to make their hearts stop gambling, one of which is that gambling only results in losses, not profits.

You're entirely correct, as far as he still access his account with that email, the auto-suggestion would be linked to his history of searches on the platform. Youtube uses that to help users with contents of preference, but in the case of your friend, it's clearly working against him.

He has also subscribed to many gambling channels, so he receives any videos they upload first-hand, if he must still maintain that account, he should unsubscribe from those channels, but that would really be a lot of work and inefficient too, so like you suggested using a new email to open YouTube account would do the magic

It's not wise to delete YouTube totally because there's lots of educational and meaningful content there. Just uninstall his YouTube account, delete the app data on the app management portal, login with a different account for him and he should be fine.

We do know that browsers or any apps on which everything will really be that connected on which if there's something that you do get used to on making those searches then it will really be feeding you out
those ads which are related on what you are really doing. If you do get used on playing gambling or making some searches or any other correlated things towards it then expect that you would really be that bombarded
with those tons of gambling ads. If you do want to get rid specifically with Youtube ads then just like on what others been suggesting on earlier page then get Youtube premium and when it comes to browser then make use of Brave on which these are the ones wont be giving out those kind of ads or notifications on which it would be related to gambling or any. This is the hardest stuff or moment is on the time that you would be wanting to quit or stop but there are really things that make you keeps on coming back or really that hinder out on doing so. Its hard to quit up when you are still that prone into those stuffs which are related to gambling.

If you do still find out that you've seen related things then it will be just that wise that you should really be that stopping on making use of your phone or simply
switch up to keypad type phone for text and calls only.  :P

In fact, gambling ads are everywhere now, so if you become addicted just by looking at the ads it would be a greedy behavior. So stop watching or practicing these ads. Every time you open any browser you will get such ads so take it in general and avoid it. Knowing that this thing is ruining his financial life. Everyone should understand this carefully and deal with them but not in depth. Greed and dreams of becoming rich should not lead to the desire to gamble as it may result in loss of your wealth.

Totally depends on someones self control on which we know that not all would really be that good when it comes to this manner on where there would really be those individuals
who would really be that ending up on having this kind of behavior on the time or moment that they would be encountering those things again that makes them addicted.
Just like on what had been mentioned or told that it is really that hard to resist specially if addiction becomes severe and it turns out that it is really really hard to resist or stop yourself.
This is why as much as possible you should really be that making yourself that avoiding as much as possible. We do know technology nowadays that everything could really be accessed out.

I think he can stop everything on his phone because he was the one who keeps enabling those notification and ads to display on his phone. Alternatively ask him to break and stop using smart phone for the main time if he must stop gambling because, as a gamble that phone is already being filled with gambling ads and the history in his browser are not yet cleared such logs and cache. When he clear everything he wouldn't get any notification or see this things coming again but the best way is to change phone and do use other phone that is not smart phone to enable him forget about gambling. This could be a very difficult task but I must say he needs it otherwise he may not stop or quit gambling.

You didn't kill the main thing that influence him into gambling. People gamble for a lot of reasons, some people gamble for financial reasons, some gamble for fun which is the rare side and some gamble because they are spiritually connected to gambling but from the way you portray your story, your friend is financially in need of money for something otherwise he wouldn't use his fortune to make money but perhaps he was afraid of to speak up.

If you want to help your friend, you need to ask him exactly his reasons for gambling and you can take it from there. If he is doing it because of money, you need to make him stop because he already has enough. If he need money, he should invest the money into something. Maybe he can start from investing into crypto and other form of investment. Tell him to deactivate his gambling accounts or if there is an option to delete the accounts, make him do it.

Get a girlfriend or boyfriend if not married and spend your time having fun and getting to know each other. If married, find some hobbies that both of you can enjoy that don't revolve around gambling.

Let's be honest, a gambler isn't going to stop or take baby steps to quit unless they want to. They have to take the 1st step. If you see someone wasting away and always broke with their life in ruin because of gambling, you can try to help them quit or hang out but until they want to stop they won't.

Actually as a friend then its not your responsibility on helping him out but at least showing up some care or empathy on the current condition that he's in and you do sees up that hes really that willing to quit
then you cant just that stop yourself on trying out to help him as much as possible but we do know that there are really things which cant be avoided even if you do try on doing so but everything would really be according on the control and moderation on which we know that when it comes that this would really be that a personal control and discipline on which we know that not all would really be good at. This is why on the moment
that you are really that wanting to quit gambling. If you have seen those ads continuously then try to get of the root cause. Its not really that actually hard if you would really be just that trying to see on where it is really that coming from.

Actually if you do really want to quit then it would really be just that common sense that if ever you do encounter gambling related things then you could just avoid it out.
It all matters about self control and discipline on which its really just that a common approach.

He does not need to change his smartphone but he should clear the cache and all his browsing application history, it is important that he should change his old email to stop all notifications from gambling and to avoid cache/history being stored on youtube search because usually youtube will always recommend videos that we often watch.

It is actually very easy to delete gambling history on a smartphone and usually only takes a few steps to delete all history and replace it with a new email, but the most difficult thing for gamblers is that they have committed to stopping gambling activities or getting out of gambling addiction.

It's sad to know someone we know loses a lot of money from gambling. But after all, it was his own fault personally, not someone else's.

But when he told me that he had suffered a lot of losses, it had already reached its lowest point and before that of course for 4 months he became a gambling addict and always hoped to make a big profit and keep putting money into gambling. Now there may be no more money that can be put into gambling.

To avoid his life from gambling, he can delete all connected accounts or do research on his phone, so that there will be no more traces on his phone about gambling.
Replace everything with a new account or if it is possible to use a new mobile number, as the mobile number will still be the target of gambling promotions.
I am the only one who does not play gambling too often, and it is only as entertainment, always getting gambling messages through my personal number with many promotions and so on to be interested.

Every baby step begins with the gambler, he has to decide that he is ready to quit gambling, and whatever reason that makes him start gambling he should figure a way to end it. The reason why most persons who gamble for profit can't quit gambling is because they want to be rich and they feel gambling can make them rich quickly. So no matter how they try since they are not yet rich I don't think they can quit gambling. Meanwhile, those who gamble for fun may never get too quick unless they get a different activity other than gambling which they may try out that is more fun. Most persons under that category when they get married and have kids with much responsibility easily stop gambling.

Well, don’t get me wrong here, but the title of your topic and the story is either different or wasn’t that accurate. However, the story you have shared has became something concerning lately, by the amount of people getting this same addiction and difficulties to quit gambling even though they have lost so many times and significant amounts of money. Gamblers online are more likely to get addicted than gamblers in real casinos, due to the accessibility to play and gamble easily at home or any place, while gambling in a casino needs time, traveling and cash to start playing.
Gambling advertising also is becoming increasingly popular among sport events, television and sponsorships. For someone who is trying to quit, these ads are disturbing for them and it’s hard to be avoided, which means that person will need more patience to avoid that temptation.

I have shared a topic about how to disable the ads inside youtube here in the forum, since it is not possible to disable them automatically, here is my topic (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5490222.0) if you want to take a look at it.

The best solution in this situation is to switch to something more useful, for example, sports. Do this with your friend, spend more time with him, he definitely needs your support now, if he came for help, this was a signal, help him. There was a lot of useful advice here, such as blocking ads, etc., a good solution is also to change his mobile, this should help, since another phone will cause discomfort and will not remind him of games.

He should forget about gambling no matter what temptations that comes go him through gambling ads, because he is to determine not gambling fir hin to be able to overcome the temptation of gambling. One thing is when youvare determine to stop something and the other is when you are forcing yourself to stop something.

Let him know that he cannot make profit from gambling but will keep on losing to the casino and that should scare him away from gambling, only if he still have the false hope of winning big from gambling.

Yeah, I know the feeling. Gambling is like being on a nonstop emotional rollercoaster.  When you win, youre on top of the world.  But then you lose and feel lower than dirt.  That constant instability really messes with your head and relationships.

For me, the first thing I had to do was admit I had a problem.  Gambling went from being a casual hobby to a full-blown addiction.  That was a tough truth to swallow.  But once I owned up to it, I started setting some hard boundaries for myself.  I still dabble occasionally for fun.  But Im way more careful about my involvement now.  I had to find that balance to keep things from spiraling out of control again.

Your friend gets himself addicted to gambling, because how won’t you be able to stop gambling even after losing so much money? His gambling activities were already affecting his business, which shows that he couldn’t control himself. It’s just better he looks for solutions to his gambling problem, because if he didn’t stop gambling early, then time will come when he will no longer have anything left with him to keep on running his business, so it’s just better you help your friend.

Then you should also talk to him not to go back to gambling no matter how he is feeling, he shouldn’t even try to download those apps back, because if he has them on his phone, sometimes he might be bored, and he will decide to just deposit a little amount of money and gamble with it, from there, he will keep on gambling and will keep on increasing his gambling amount.

Today i was surprised to see him, back to my house again saying he was watching YouTube and everywhere was filled with gambling videos and gambling. Please what should i do? Because i told him not quite long to completely delete his YouTube.
Your friend is kind of funny, so he doesn’t want to see anything about gambling again before he will be able to stop gambling, but with the way things are now, you can’t completely avoid gambling site advertisements because they're everywhere. If he really wants to stop gambling, then advertisements shouldn’t encourage him to gamble.

If he's not a content creator he can easily dump the old YT account and start a new one. There are add blockers that still work on youtube. It's hard to block stuff on your phone, but pretty easy on PC.
I have no real reason to quit gambling, so I won't be doing that, but if you really want to stay away from it, you can do it with ease. If I were to speculate what my baby steps would be, probably deleting my casino accounts and giving control over my bank account to someone trusted. You cant wire money to an online casino if you have no bank access and someone else pays your bills.

In all honesty there is nothing you can do, I recommend people to gamble from a PC with an email that is only dedicated to their gambling activities so they can reduce the amount of ads they receive in the case they want to quit at some point, but since your friend has not done so he will receive those kind of ads in all platforms, as any app installed on your phone can see the history of what you did on your device, so he either learns to ignore those ads or soon enough he may find himself addicted to gambling.

this reminded me of when I watched several videos related to gambling and for a week the ads that appeared on the videos I watch are mostly gambling ads. anyway, he can try and delete or avoid YouTube or he can create an account on YouTube and not watch any videos related to gambling so the videos that will be recommended to him and the ads won't be about gambling(though there is no guarantee that there won't be gambling ads on the videos he'll watch).

He started gambling without being forced, he ventured into it out of his own free will and he can still quite, all he needs is just the determination to do it. At least he has already realized that his gambling habit towards gambling is bad, that is the first step to controlling your gambling addiction. Secondly, he needs to continue reminding himself repeatedly that he must not gamble   no matter anything. It's going to be deficult to stop so easily  but if he is determined, it's going to reduce his level of gambling. If he normally gambling ten times daily, he could just do it thrice and before you know it, he is going to have control again. He can also restricte himself from his own asset.

This only proves that avoiding or leaving gambling addiction for good won't be easy most especially if you also tolerate yourself to watch some videos that are also backed up by some gambling ads.

However, if you have the deepest desire to leave gambling for good, self-discipline and self-control are the solutions. Because no matter how you try to avoid coming back to gambling but you are still allowing yourself to get exposed with some gambling ads that might tempt you again in the future, then you will really find it hard to leave gambling for good.

I don't try to discourage anyone from gambling, I play from time to time but my goal is not to win big money, that's why I don't have a problem with gambling. Ultimately, decisions and self-control are up to the person in front of you. After all, you've tried to help as much as possible, you've thought about the ads, but I think what you've done won't help him. I think your friend will experience this situation by living it.

Yourself is the biggest enemy when it comes to self-discipline. As you can't avoid to encounter those ads and other related apps in gambling, what you need to do is to remember why you want to avoid this addictive activity. You should have one good motivation why you want to get away from this activity. Because remembering such reason will give you the willingness to change and follow your goals.

Gambling ads cannot be limited because they are beyond our ability. Currently, there are many gambling sites, both legal and illegal, and their promotions are rampant on social media or other platforms. When you feel that you can no longer control yourself well, and are easily tempted by gambling ads, then throw away your gadget and switch to an old-school cellphone that can only receive calls and messages. You must isolate yourself completely for a while, both from the virtual world and from the environment that can only bring you closer to gambling. At times like this, you will really feel tortured and have difficulty living your daily life because your activities will be really limited. However, you must be able to get through this time in order to be able to control yourself again, and be completely free from gambling addiction.

By only using an old-school cellphone, you will not have a digital wallet, and it is impossible for you to open gambling sites. And by avoiding yourself from the environment or association that will only bring you closer to gambling, this can help you to avoid gambling, because sometimes the invitation of friends is more terrible than just gambling advertisements. If you do these two things, it can really help you avoid the world of gambling, both online and offline. This is only temporary, until you can recover and gain control over yourself, after that you can return to normal life and get your freedom without being stressed by gambling problems.
