Title: Index prediction from google trends
Post by: Joohansson on March 31, 2014, 06:50:16 AM
This is probably nothing new but I just saw how similar the term "bitcoin" on Google trends was to the actual price index.
Is there an API for google trends and how good resolution does it have? Could it be used to predict bitcoin price. How closely bound is it and which comes first, the google searching or the price? Worth to dig any further?

Yes, but google trends follows the price and can't be used for predictions.

Google trends just tells you how popular the word is for people that use google.
If the bitcoin price explodes more people will search for it on google. But e.g. "D" is not related to the price at all.

Do you know that for sure? What if the search trends is 1 hour or 1 minute before the price change?
