Post by: CryptSafe on October 02, 2024, 04:06:00 AM
What's up with these newbie account respectively  Cevahotor, Zylovuzan, spamming the platform with phishing link  which can be very dangerous to forum members. Please can moderator look into this before harm is done to members here who have no idea what they have posted.

Here's the link to a thread which they posted their phishing link to steal information from members;

Regardless it's phishing or not, pretty sure it's scam.

It has been discussed before.

1. Forum under spammers attack  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5510593.0)
2. Should this be called bot or what? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5511070.0)

The moderators completely aware with that, you can't expect them to taken action instantly, report one of their thread and wait for 1x24 hours. If the moderators still not yet clean it, then you can open a new thread to get more attention.

Spamming is nothing new on this forum. Phishing links too. It is the reader’s responsibility to figure out what’s a legit article and what’s a scam. If a newbie is posting a link obviously it is a suspicious act and you shouldn’t be clicking it. The internet wasn’t invented yesterday. By now everyone must have known what a phishing attack is.

If you have some free time you can report them so the mods act faster to remove these threads but I don’t think the spammer will give up so easily especially if he is getting any clicks.

Are there no way of banning those accounts automatically? It's frustrating seeing such posts under notification across the boards and I know it's coming from one or few persons deploying bots. Assuming there is a system that can ban such accounts automatically,  that would discourage their creators. Maybe this may not be something new and the admin already know how to handle them.

Good one OP. Next time you can report the post. The link is no longer visible which means the moderators have deleted the post. I check on bpip.org and the mods have banned all the connected accounts. I believe they are owned by the same person.

I can see the moderator or admin removed the post you mentioned. Good to see spam or phishing links removed from the forum. You just help the forum to keep it clean. However, instead of creating a new thread, you may just use the report button when you find something suspicious. If you found multiple posts, then ask to review the user profile of the moderator in the comment section. So they will review the profile as well. More than reputation moderator focus to solve reports. Anyway, thanks for reporting it.

You can lock the thread now.

Forum admins filter their common texts, links and ban them automatically but if you see anything was not detected by the forum bot, you can report to moderators. They will quickly ban, nuke these spammers and scammers.
Should this be called bot or what? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5511070.0)
Just report them and they'll be dealt with if a bot hasn't nuked them already.

You can report these posts to

Yeah, it could be phishing links or a scam attempt by this newbies. And he is spamming the forum and for sure many have reported and it has been deleted already.

And you can really see the timing as the price of Bitcoin goes up, (although in the last 48 hours it did go down with another correction).

But at least this community is quickly calling out this kind of post and I would be surprised if someone is going to fall for it.

There is  anti-spam bot (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1136003) from Mitchell (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=113670) which removes such kind of posts soon after it notices but we can help the system using Report to moderator button so mod can add that stuff into the bot that will make things faster.

There's no need to create a new thread whenever there's such an attack; it's better to use the existing ones.

Thank you for mentioning me, that way I actually got pinged. I've added the new text patterns to the bot. Not much more I can do, since they keep changing.

Just report the post and notify the staff about these spammers, nothing much we can do from our end. Hoping nobody falls for these old tricks. Some of these accounts attempt PM phishing too, report those if you see any.

Good opportunity for those who are trying to get their reports marked good by the admin team. :D

Thread should be locked and patrolling resumed.

Looks like they are banned now, and I think they a part of latest bot group that is specialized with amazon voucher scam attacks.
I wouldn't be surprised if they continue the same thing and maybe even try to hack members using PM's, so better be careful.

Thank you for your advise Sir. I see the thread already being deleted by the moderator and it is good he acted fast to safeguard newbies that could have been carried away thinking the link and content are genuine. Such phishing and spam link does not belong to this platform and I see the account holders already being nuked. I will use the report button as you have said and that would help very fast to wipe off spam from the platform.

Locking the thread now as the purpose of creating it has been fulfilled.

Thank you all for your advise and contributions.
