The use of a digital form of money is embedded in the Kenyan society.
Safaricom’s success in Kenya included a grand promotional campaign.
Everyone gained trust in mobile payments after a colleague, friend or a cousin confirmed it was not a con.
It is now as cheap as $40 to buy an Android OS phone in Kenya.

Safaricom, it's a typo.
It is the biggest mobile provider in East Africa (Vodacom). MPESA is Safaricom's mobile money. It is used by more than half of Kenyans.

Would you say more than half of Kenyans use it often?

Who accepts it as a form of payment?

In regards to merchants who accept it for goods/services, is the percentage growing?

Do you about when this was launched?

@RixDollar:
Yes, half of Kenyans use it often.
Everyone seem to accept it for payment (restaurants, taxis, supermarket, book stores etc.)
The percentage of merchants accepting is nearly everyone already. I found out that the biggest growth was around 2011.
MPESA launched publicly in 2007.
