Title: is this crypto lost? Post by: Big_ on November 20, 2024, 06:11:02 PM I set up a new Ledger device and Ledger live account, sent a few transactions to and from the account using the Ledger device fine.
I tried to send another transaction today and get the error message: Something went wrong Please check that your hardware wallet is set up with the recovery phrase or passphrase associated to the selected your account. I tried restoring my Ledger device using my 24 passwords but Ledger live still doesnt recognize the device. When I plug my Ledger into a new device with Ledger live downloaded it shows the total as 0.00 As the actual total is still showing on my previous device I am guessing the funds have not been moved, but not sure how to access them as is not recognizing the ledger device Any ideas what could be up? (Sorry is second post related to same issue but quite concerned) Title: Re: is this crypto lost? Post by: EL MOHA on November 20, 2024, 06:20:51 PM I get what’s wrong with your Ledger but you can try updating the device maybe theirs is a latest firmware. If the wallet still shows the coins are still their then it is not moved and can easily be restored on another wallet
But should the problem persists then you can simply use other wallets like electrum or any other reputable wallet on an airgapped device or you can still go for another hardware wallet and move your funds their as ledger device isn’t even advice of recent for use due to their seed phrase recovery process Title: Re: is this crypto lost? You might want to make sure your selected account matches up with the respective seed phrase. Alternatively, try setting up a wallet using electrum and your hardware wallet

If you remember what the derivation path Ledger used when you created the wallet was, you can simply type it into any wallet software along with the 24-word seed. I'm not going to recommend anything, but Sparrow Wallet in particular allows you to manually specify the derivation path. So if you've got legacy addresses it should be m/44'/0'/<account-number>' <-- the account number is probably 0 unless you made more accounts. Title: Re: is this crypto lost? I then tried to restore the ledger using my 24 PW's and it still doesnt recognize my Ledger. My current guess is that The initial nonrecognition of my Ledger may have been a simple error but then I restored the device using old PW's as hadnt saved the new ones by accident. No. Bitcoin wouldn't exist if that would work. You need the private key for the address that currently holds the coins.Title: Re: is this crypto lost? However, it seems this isnt the case. Perhaps you misunderstand what private keys are or you are using the wrong terminology. In any case, if I understand you correctly, you restored your Ledger device with a new set of 24 words (a new backup phrase). If so, there is no way to access the previous wallet on the device unless you have written down the correct 24-word backup phrase. Thats the entire purpose of hardware wallets. They securely store the private keys to your Bitcoin addresses, preventing anyone from accessing your coins without them. If you have reset your hardware device and dont have the correct backup seed phrase, Im afraid your coins are lost. |
