Title: Help Needed: Antminer S19 Failing to Initialize (Chain ID = 3, J255: 2 Sweep Err Post by: osmbtrk on January 28, 2025, 06:09:25 PM Hello everyone,
I’m struggling with an issue on my Antminer S19, and I’m hoping for your expertise. Despite my troubleshooting, the miner fails to start mining. Here’s a summary of what I’ve done and the main errors I’m encountering. What I’ve Tried: Replaced the control board with a new one and updated the firmware. Restored factory settings and upgraded firmware during troubleshooting. Tested all three hashboards individually by disconnecting the others. The issue persists no matter which hashboard is connected. Verified the power supply is stable and providing proper voltage. Key Errors from Logs: Open miner sn file / config / sn error appears at startup. bad chain id = 3 appears repeatedly. J255: 2 Sweep error and No full chain exist, exit show during chain initialization. ERROR_SOC_INIT: soc init failed! is followed by hashboard shutdown. My Assumptions: The issue might be with the hashboards, specifically: An EEPROM problem. A bad ASIC chip causing the J255: 2 error. Miscommunication between the control board and hashboards. Questions for the Community: What does Open miner sn file / config / sn error mean, and how can I fix it? Has anyone encountered bad chain id = 3 or the J255: 2 Sweep error? What could they indicate? How can I verify if the issue is due to the EEPROM or an ASIC chip? Are there additional steps I can take to debug or reset the hashboards? Despite my efforts, the miner won’t start mining, and I’m seeking the community's advice to get to the root of the problem. Issue Overview: The miner fails to initialize and start mining, showing repeated errors related to chain initialization. I replaced the control board with a brand-new one and ensured the firmware is up-to-date, but the problem remains. Factory settings were restored, and the firmware was updated during troubleshooting. I tested each hashboard individually, but the issue persists. Disconnected two hashboards and tested each chain (0, 1, and 2) separately. The miner still fails to start, regardless of which hashboard is connected. Checked Power Supply: Confirmed that the power supply is stable and providing proper voltage/current. Key Points from the Logs: Errors on Startup: The miner logs show Open miner sn file /config/sn error right at startup. bad chain id = 3 appears multiple times. Chain Initialization Fails: Errors such as Sweep error string = J255:2. and No full chain exist, exit. ERROR_SOC_INIT: basic init failed! appears consistently, followed by hashboard shutdown. Detected Chains: The miner logs show that it recognizes the connected chain but fails to complete initialization. My Assumptions: Based on the errors and behavior, I suspect: An issue with the hashboards, possibly EEPROM-related. A bad ASIC chip on one or more hashboards causing the J255:2 sweep error. Some miscommunication between the control board and hashboards. Help Needed: What does the Open miner sn file /config/sn error mean, and how can I fix it? Has anyone encountered bad chain id = 3 and the J255:2 sweep error? What do these errors indicate? How can I verify if the issue is related to the hashboards' EEPROM or an ASIC chip? Are there additional steps I can take to debug or reset the hashboards? I’ve tried everything I could think of, and I’d greatly appreciate any guidance or suggestions from the community. Thank you! ==========================================Miner log=========================================== Code: 2025-01-25 20:14:53 Open miner sn file /config/sn error 2025-01-25 20:16:07 Chain[0]: find 0 asic, times 0 2025-01-25 20:16:09 Chain[0]: find 0 asic, times 1 2025-01-25 20:16:10 Chain[0]: find 0 asic, times 2 2025-01-25 20:16:10 Chain 0 only find 0 asic, will power off hash board 0. board is dead this is the issue 2025-01-25 20:16:12 Chain[1]: find 88 asic, times 0 2025-01-25 20:16:14 Chain[2]: find 88 asic, times 0 2025-01-25 20:16:14 ERROR_SOC_INIT: soc init failed! 2025-01-25 20:16:14 stop_mining: soc init failed! 2025-01-25 20:16:14 uninit_temp_info 2025-01-25 20:16:14 do not read temp anymore... 2025-01-25 20:16:14 cancel thread 2025-01-25 20:16:14 ****power off hashboard**** 2025-01-25 20:16:15 temp monitor thread exit 2025-01-25 20:16:29 Version num 65536 2025-01-25 20:16:29 Mask num 0x1fffe000 2025-01-25 20:16:29 opt_multi_version = 65536, interval timeout = 2290648 2025-01-25 20:16:29 freq = 675, percent = 90, hcn = 3883, timeout = 2290648 If I recall I said get the epic controller as it will allow you to disable the board. https://altairtech.io/product/epic-umc/ also down the road it can be pulled and put into a s21 miner see just one board active : https://www.talkimg.com/images/2025/01/28/WWfQa.png Title: Re: Help Needed: Antminer S19 Failing to Initialize (Chain ID = 3, J255: 2 Sweep Err Post by: BitMaxz on January 28, 2025, 11:47:15 PM Chain 0 or the first hashboard shows 0 ASIC, which means there might be a problem with that hashboard.
The two seem fine and detected all ASIC chips, but since you mention you replaced the control board, the hashboard EEPROM might not sync properly with the new control board. You need to replace it with the original EEPROM that works on that hashboard or use Braiins OS as an alternative to bypass the EEPROM check. However, you still have one hashboard that fails to run. Would you mind trying to run the unit first with the Braiins OS? If the first hashboard does not work, you will need to replace or repair it. I am having the exact same issue and same log errors. I had a bad hashboard and replaced it now none work.
Thanks Title: Re: Help Needed: Antminer S19 Failing to Initialize (Chain ID = 3, J255: 2 Sweep Err Post by: Emily.darryl on June 11, 2025, 07:43:05 PM Just to update my issue. I resolved it by flashing s21 miner back to 2024 version of bitmain firmware then loading braiins frimware and all is working. The new board is rocking. I will post the new log to see if we can see why braiins worked but bitmain would now work with new board.

I will post the new log to see if we can see why braiins worked but bitmain would now work with new board. Any replacement hashboard won't work with the stock firmware of Bitmain because of incompatibility issues; serial, EEPROM, and mismatch programs won't work. You need hash board code editor to dump the EEPROM from the stock hashboard that came from the same unit and use that data to flash it to replacement hashboard because if you didn't do that the new hashboard will not work to stock Bitmain firmware unless you use modded or different firmware like Braiins. I don't know why you bought a new hashboard without trying my suggestion first on my previous post? Did you ignore them? |
