Title: MaxCoin SHA-3: not a lot of 411 out there
Post by: domerdel on April 01, 2014, 05:58:12 PM
I've been searching this forum for mining alt-coin: MaxCoin, and the majority of the talk is ramblings/rants and vague dead ends, so I wanted to start a new thread. The common denominator of research found is that MaxCoin is based on SHA-3 Crytographic Hash function endorsed by Max Keiser... and that's about all it says.

Questions that remain:

1. What are the best methods of mining SHA-3 (in this case MaxCoin)? CPU? GPU?
2. Since ASIC miners are primarily for BitCoin / SHA-256, is there proprietary hardware that focuses on the SHA-3 algorithm?
3. What is the current value and difficulty of MaxCoin?

I've tried posting in the maxCoin forum, but haven't had a response since I posted a couple weeks ago. There were talks about using CUDA mining for SHA-3, but no other word has been said.

Before I give up on attempting to mine this, does anyone else have some 411 on this?

1) GPU, forget about CPU mining http://dwarfpool.com/max (http://dwarfpool.com/max)
2) ASICs for SHA-3 most probably exists but not "industrially" : no manufacturer is known to have any interest in releasing one. So you can call it ASIC free for now.
3) https://www.cryptsy.com/markets/view/152 (https://www.cryptsy.com/markets/view/152) http://dwarfpool.com/max/calc (http://dwarfpool.com/max/calc)

411? What's that?
MAX resumed it's price fall but it is far from dead because if you compare to most cryptos, you can unfortunatly say it is very healthy compared to others lol

If you have interest in MAX and if you have the time to, i would advise you mine a more profitable coin, sell it, then buy MAX

Wasn't the Maxcoin launch an utter fail with a few people mining all the blocks while everyone else waited for the compiled wallets? Not to mention the secret GPU miner.

Thank you for the update

And that's why I wanted to ask. There's this void in time after its launch and even the twitter accounts are ambiguous updates. Looks like I'll mine other alt-coins in its place.

Maxcoin was one of the worse launched and dev support is still poor. You would assume a qt wallet would be out before a launch. Plus the devs didn't really give the public transparent information on it. I'd rather mine LTC, DRK, VERT, HIC, HVC and other coins than Maxcoin.

Just read through the ANN thread, the evidence of foulplay is all there. Check the amount of pissed users around and after launchtime.

Research yourself before investing/mining, don't trust strangers like me.  ;)

if the coin takes off starts getting many investors and adopters do you think than those people are gonna care about the launch? no they wont, the people that care about it mostly are the people on this forum, ive seen everyone cry foul about the launch this coin was selling at a very high price the first few days anyone mining made good money,  at this point who cares, there is now 14 million plus of this coin, the launch doesnt even really matter anymore.

i would be extremely surprised if realsolid got rid of the most profitable coin for him on his site he does more volume with maxcoin than any other coin on his site.
