Title: Confessions of a Bitcoin Addict
Post by: Beef Supreme on April 01, 2014, 06:59:42 PM
So, I am addicted to Bitcoin.  The first step in curing an addiction is to realize you have one.

I got my first bits last year from the biggest dealer on the planet at the time, Gox.  Needing more, I went to a local dealer, BitBox.  It has been a long road of buying and using Bitcoin ever since.  Thanks Overstock and Tiger Direct.  I think about using bits for every purchase, and wish I could.  Damn you Walmart and various fast food chains!

Even using the Bitcoin-Qt to move money around, and playing around with various web wallets, are great fixes…KryptoKit, Hive, Mycelium.  I play around with cold storage, securely making paper wallets, cutting them out, carefully laminating each one…getting my kicks just storing money there, only to sweep it clean and shred it when necessary.  I like studying the block chain while it drips transactions, and am fascinated by the little fiat leak bubbles landing on locations throughout the globe.  I like to make transactions and see how fast they broadcast, and wait patiently to see how quick six confirmations are complete.  It feels like running science experiments.

I go to Coindesk more than regular news networks.  I consume youtube content like madbitcoins, worldbitcoinnetwork, Max Keiser, Antonopoulus interviews, and that bald guy from Canada who taught me plenty about economics.  I learned more from those vids than my college economics class.

Now I am using localbitcoins to get my best fix yet.  Meeting people I don't know, giving them funny looking green paper, and they give me the fix I need, some bits!  Not only that, but I get cool transaction feedback that I used to only get from Ebay.  I feel like a junkie, calling the dealers regularly, draining my bank account, and happily forking over stinky green paper for just one fix.

Then there are my Gox bits, which are held hostage currently.  Thankfully their abductor allows a precious login attempt so I can see them on occasion, but their is a good chance they will never be in my warm cold storage again.  :(

Even my wife, I gave her 2.5 BTC for her birthday, and ended up buying them back from her at market price a month later.  Jesus, I am hopeless.  She is gonna leave me if I don't get this under control, and take the kids with her.

I will sell them to her for BTC1000000 each!  Happy April Fools Day!

See, this is me. When I'm making a purchase in damn dirty dollars, I have to think about how much bitcoin it's worth, instead of vice versa like all my friends. Maybe I'm taking things a bit too far? ???

The pretty much free thousand dollars in november was pretty nice, so I'm not complaining. It's a better addiction than gambling (52% of the time) or weed.

At least with this kind of addiction, there's a possible happy ending for all of us involved.

Or maybe not...Come on China, get your head out of your ass!   >:(

ya im not far off that ether.. only im more interested in Nxt, Nem and constantly looking for second gen coins.. PoW coins will soon die out... perhaps not bitcoin or litecoin but the useless clones will.. all the new PoS coins will all build multipools and suck the life out of PoW coins..

Total time logged in on Bitcointalk.org: 7 days, 12 hours and 45 minutes.

I'm embarrassed but at the same time proud of these stats.  Considering that is probably only 1/4 of the true amount spent here.

New confession:

I have been dropping 900 USD a week since this thread began.  Been using Mycelium's new trade app.  It is always interested meeting new Bitcoiners, and they are always kind enough to give me their coin for my atm droppings.

Thinking about slowing down, but I am having to much fun playing with crypto!

Hi my name is ______ and I'm a cryptocashaholic.

My mining equipment will never ROI because I keep getting more and the price ticker tab is always open.
It wouldn't be such a bad thing if only I could convince Godiva to accept btc/xbt or in the very least....find a decent chocolate covered gummy-bear
on Amazon (so I can purchase a gift card with Gyft).

When you get tired of Cryptocashaholics Anonymous, try personal responsibility and self control, since 12 step meetings often do not work long-term.

New confession:

Spent the better part of yesterday installing a second SSD (64Gb) in my computer.  The install was easy (also had to install a better case fan and manage air flow obstructions)

It was installing Ubuntu 14.04 on it that was a pain.  Turns out it doesn't like Dual Graphics stuff from AMD, so I had to disable my 6670 graphics card in the BIOS and plug it directly into the onboard graphics run by my sweet ass 6800K AMD APU.

Then I tried to install 0.9.1 Bitcoin-Qt (trusty) on it, and man did I have to work!  Finally figured out, with the help of Ask! Ubuntu, that there were issues with crypto keys that were trying to access the repository.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bluematt/bitcoin

gpg --keyserver  keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv XXXXX

gpg --export --armor XXXXX | sudo apt-key add -

This is all so I can have the full client on a drive that is not used for web surfing and such (it also has to be manually connected to the motherboard for access).  And well, I fkn love me some Ubuntu, it is just so time consuming, nothing seems to work without some effort unlike Windows 8.1.

When I finally got it installed I got my fix for the day!  It is now gradually downloading the full block chain.  Now I can save lots of space on my main SSD when it doesn't have to hold a full client.

My wife told me last night, "You are starting to spend a lot of time on this computer."

I know what that means, I better do some TLC overtime.

I'm certain to slip again and be back. I'm only leaving now to check a calculator, Bitmain, my wallet (including NMC), Bitminter full stats (gui page),
I'll listen to "Bitcoin Baron" before a Segway into "Let's Talk Bitcoin", while I'm reading up on what all the happy Shibes are up to on reddit.
