Title: Anyone can fall victim to crypto scams
Post by: Son Of Blockchain (SOB) on March 10, 2025, 09:33:04 PM
I see people relating crypto scams to newbies only but the honest truth is that scammers feed on people's ignorance, not only that but greed as well, therefore anyone can be a victim, not only newbie. Well, newbies are their easiest targets cause their ignorance makes them very vulnerable but their are some newbies that are very smart and careful online not to lose money to scammers.
Although some can easily be fooled online. For instance, someone was scammed through releasing his passphrase, the scammer told him that he'll be gifted free coins but he'll have to drop his passpharse and out of ignorance he released it to the scammers and the rest of his coin in his wallet was history you'll be suprised how easily such person got scammed but think about it greed could play a role to that.
Maybe the free money he was offered was very huge that he couldn't decline, maybe he might be ignorant but their are people even those with better understanding of the implications of releasing their passphrase that would overlook the implications and release their phrase to the scammer out of greed, everyone just needs to be more careful and avoid being greedy cause many have been scammed due to greed both ignorant and experienced crypto enthusiast.

I have not been a victim of online scam before.

You mean seed phrase and not passphrase. But if you add passphrase to your seed phrase, do not let anyone know both the seed phrase and the passphrase.

Greed is the main reason why people fall for scams.

If it were just ignorance, then simply understanding that anything too good to be true is probably a scam would already protect you. When you see red flags, you’d take the time to study the offer, recognize it as a scam, and walk away. But when greed takes over, you don’t bother investigating, you’re too focused on the rewards and in a rush to invest.

So it’s wrong to say that people fall for scams just because they’re newbies. The real reason is greed. In fact, even experienced people get scammed, so being a newbie isn’t really the main factor.

What kind can tell you ks that any wallet scam happens with the concert of the owner since if the wallet is a hot wallet the only way anyone can gain access is when you give out your see phrases and for any scammer no matter how smart they may think they are, it can not work on someone who has prior knowledge about the whole thing?

Anyone can fall for it, even those who said that they've been in the market for so long. I still remember someone before, he do a livestream and then someone hacks into his wallet and nothing he can do about it.

Even myself has fallen victims to scam before, I'm not really sure if you guys still remember bitcoin doubler scam, around 2017-2018, that was one of the most scams that was run and many has become a victim.

And as I have said, it's better to be like falling for the scam early on so that you will learn your lessons in the long run and it might benefit us, just saying.

If you stay updated on new criminal techniques and methods that scammers use, you will never be a victim to a crypto scam online.

Old information will not be useful against new methods, and people with old information who refuse intimating themselves with new methods scammers use can find themselves victims of crypto scams.

Staying informed is key.

It's very good that you've learnt your lesson, you've got an experience therefore I think by now you should be taking precautions so I doesn't repeat itself again, that's the most beautiful part of it all, when you make mistakes and learn from them, scammers are highly intelligent they'll try to capture your mind with different techniques, maybe greed, mess with your emotions or some mind games but someone who's been a victim of scam should be extra careful and know the right way to deal with people with such dubious character.
The Internet is a place with lots of opportunities likewise a place that could lead to your doom with help of scammers if you're not extra careful over there, their are some informations one should keep confidential and the seed phrase is one of them, it's something that could ruin a crypto holders portfolio if they're carefree about it.

The people that are most likely to always get scammed are the greedy ones, that want to just make it at once without doing the work nor putting in the required time by law of God and man.

Crypto scams will be a more difficult thing to fall into if people learn to know the right persons to ask some good questions regarding issues that are confusing or too good to be true type of situations, become more open than close to people who they want as mentor or guide and be more security conscious and watchful and ultimately, strive for better but along the way always be contented, then as said, crypto scams will have been reduced by a huge percentage already.

Interesting take. I do agree that greed usually plays a part in scams that promise some form of extraordinary gain (meme coins that turn out to be rug pulls, get rich quick schemes, and so on) though I don't think that greed is the main reason for being scammed. Naivety and lack of knowledge I believe would be the main reasons - lack of ability to know better, lack of experience and lack of learning.

I agree with this.

Someone who has an up to date understanding of what scams look like and how to avoid them, should be able to avoid them. I don't think someone who knows how to identify scams will still fall for scams out of greed (I hope not anyway!)

Maybe the free money he was offered was very huge that he couldn't decline,
The money was so free and so much that they decided being stupid is worth a try.  The responsibility is right on their shoulders and this is the stupidest way to get scammed.  Thinking you get free money.

I understand there are enough people who would be stupid for a moment and risk it all for a few dollars.  This is why scammers are thriving often, because too many people are able to be stupid and not think for a second out of greed and fantasy land.  All you need to do is be sane for a second and think how the REAL world works.

As far as I know falling victim is not for everybody, I have come to realized that greed is what actually makes most people to fall victim. However, anyone that normally do the right thing without going for quick profits wouldn't going to fall victim, just like me I have never fall victim before while because I am not good in focusing on quick profits. Once you are egar to get rich quick the possiblity of falling victim would be high, because you wouldn't think of doing research before entering due to the fact that you want quick money without remembering the risks involved.

Free money is a myth! If it's too good to be true then it's probably a scam. That's how the real world works and everyone should realize that!

As far as I know falling victim is not for everybody, I have come to realized that greed is what actually makes most people to fall victim. ...snip...

Greed as well as curiosity. That's why people should try to control these two emotions. For me there have been several times where I almost got scammed. But luckily I suppressed my curiosity and the drama ended there. For example, there was this one time, an unknown person from telegram, sent me his seeds, login credential's and everything. Out of curiosity I could have logged in to the platform. Surely nobody would expect a simple login wouldn't do any harm or hack. But I never did that. I blocked the person and the story ended there. If you give them the chances to scam you you'll be scammed for sure. So don't!

Sure, some people are doing everything right and have not fallen prey yet.  If you are patient enough, you will not become a victim, but will instead have time to study and conduct research on what you are attempting to do.  Anyone who falls victim to cryptocurrency does not really know what to study and, in my opinion, is too lazy to take the time to learn about what they are investing in or trading.  Nothing comes effortlessly, you cannot achieve success unless you have overcome numerous obstacles.  first become you can become rich. Even scammers study the market and plan how to defraud people in order to steal their funds. However, if you understand everything about cryptocurrency, you will never see when they say you should share your private key with anyone, but some newbie will still fall for the victim.

Some are just using knowledgeable person to scam they will deceive him,  that they will give him money in is wallet and confused with money, and they came to market to get rich quickly, so if someone said they will give them money they will be thinking they have get the easy way to achieve there goals, if they share there things to them and later they will be complaining that they scam them, and when you are doing the process you won't ask questions before taking actions. Anything about your privacy if they said you should share it, just know that the person you are dealing with is a scam and you should run from him before you become a victims.

I wonder why people always capitalize on newbies alone, maybe they think that is only the newbies that easily get scammed in this crypto space. but I want to tell you that most newbies are even smarter than those who claims that they know everything that is going on in this crypto space. However, I think the only way out of this is that we shouldn't be greedy, Because is obvious that greed is the major reason why most people always end up falling a victim for all this crypto scam, this is why it needs to tackled so that we won't end up repeating that  same mistake which other investors made in the past.

I can see that some people are blaming victims of scammers as greed. That is not right at all. They are scammed because of ignorance and lack of experience about scam. Even someone that is greedy can avoid scam if he is not ignorant of the scam and have experience about how to avoid such scam. This is the reason we should always learn about how to avoid scam. I am not saying it is good to be greedy. Greediness is bad.

Greed, the majority reason why people fall for scams this days, you are right but I have fallen for scam by mistake, there is no greed involved in my own story.

At the time the transaction fee on BTC was very high, there was massive congestion on BTC block chain, so the wallet I was using have no way to adjust the transaction fee.

I then proceed to download another wallet, even after all the knowledge I have about crypto wallet I still make the mistake of downloading a fake wallet app on Play Store, I used the wallet for two weeks with no problem, since I don't leave behind any BTC in the wallet.

On the third week I don't see any reason to move my BTC then later I noticed that my BTC was moved out of the wallet, I learned the hard way,

Like I have posted before, I do not agree with this. You can read what I posted. The main reason for someone to fall victim to scammers is more because of ignorance, lack of knowledge and experience about the scam. Even if someone is greedy and have the knowledge and experience and not ignorant about the scam, he will avoid it.

Not always will the victims of scammers be greedy people. However, any fraud that implies some profit applies to them. Very often, naive people, those who do not know that in the world not everything that is advertised to us is true, will be a direct target for scammers. Example: elderly people. For them, what is shown on their TV, on the Internet, or maybe in their local newspaper, if there are any, will always be the truth in the first instance. If they see a popular person who offers to invest in their native language, etc., they are unlikely to be overcome by doubts that this person may be an AI doll.
Therefore, of course, knowledge is necessary, as well as caution and understanding that everything that seems very fabulous to you is a fairy tale. If you are skeptical of all offers, you are unlikely to fall into the hands of scammers.

That's right, anyone can be a victim, and we're even seeing that some experienced ones have also been victimized. But I think it's because they're careless. Nonetheless, the newbies are their main targets because they're ignorant and have no idea how these sketchy scams goes around. Having no idea of how it goes makes them the most vulnerable ones. But being educated and aware of these scams will make them flee from it.

but their are some newbies that are very smart and careful online not to lose money to scammers.
It's because they listen and they are doing their research. And that's what everyone needs to do, newbies and not.

Greed and ignorance are among humanity’s greatest enemies. Even some investors are not beginners who have fallen into the trap of several meme coins and similar Ponzi schemes and fake exchanges that promise free bonuses upon registration.

All the strategies of the scammers depend on convincing them of huge and quick profits. If they had done their proper research and did not let greed control them, they would have escaped these scams as they would have found many sources which would have helped them.

Also, sharing seed phrases is really the naivest mistake that anyone can make as no one should ever have seen/access to them, and they must be stored securely. However, the scammer may be able to access them by hacking the victim’s device or sending him a malicious link or using phishing tactics.

For me this is nothing about about greed but rather this is purely ignorance, a person with much knowledge like you OP will immediately know that giving out seed phrase to a total stranger is definitely scam on its own. It is only an ignorant or gullible person who can differentiate between address and seed phrase and its importance will ignorantly give the phrase out.

Also there is definitely greed which even knowledgeable individuals can also fall victim of like using the wallet which holds their coins to connect to some site just to claim tokens and the rest this most of the times isn’t ignorance only but greed too this is usually common for airdrop farmers.

everyone just needs to be more careful and avoid being greedy cause many have been scammed due to greed both ignorant and experienced crypto enthusiast.
Those who are fooled in such a way are just beginners who are not knowledgeable. Because there are also beginners who have knowledge and they are careful to follow up on offers of free coins like that.

Greed plus ignorance is indeed a scary combination for all online activities. Because they can be very easy targets to be fooled.
I think today's scammers are more sophisticated with their methods. Not with offers of free coins by asking for wallet recovery phrases. The fraud methods used by crypto scammers are already numerous. We have to be more careful.

Is not only beginners that are greedy this is what a normal human being will do because it's already an existing habit and the best thing to do is for you to even is to control your self when you find your self in business and when you are a newbie you just have to be careful on how you act because without proper understanding you will find it very hard to control when some habits have eaten dip inside us so everything  boils down from the beginning and this is why you need to seek knowledge first and you can also learn from people's experience because that is like the most important for me is to learn.

The combination of those two is not actually a good sign at all because greed is even better than ignorance because when a person is ignorant the person will actually do worst because they will first of all act on there emotions and a person without knowledge will feel some things are correct and that is why making use of the information you have will make things more easy for you so there is more reasons for anyone to actually put knowledge first. People need to understand that you don't need to rush take your time to study that is what makes it easy, when you actually take your time to learn.

It will be very hard for experienced investors to be scammed, this is just the simple truth. The newbies are the mostly likely to be the people to be scammed, because of their inexperienced. They can hardly detect when someone wants to take advantage of them. These things has little possibilities of happening with pros. You can't ask someone who is well experienced in the crypto space to send you his seed phrase to you. The person will just block you immediately. So I'm really finding it difficult to believe that anyone can fall victim of crypto scam. There's is a point you will get to in this industry it will become very difficult for people to scam you. You can easily detect a scam from miles away.

Heh "don't fall for crypto scams". I don't think anyone is intentionally trying to get scammed or cheated out of money.
Unfortunately it happens even to the best of us, usually in cases and times of high panic and stress where we let our guard down

Some scammers know exactly people they target when they want to scam and if they are unlucky to meet newbies they are sure of not making proat the end of it, for an experienced crypto investor you don't come to him with some stupid stories they will easily identify your next move and block the scammers but they can easily be attracted through free gifts or ponzi scheme because some of them like getting into investments where they invest a little amount to make huge profit but then it comes to scam that involves sending of seed phrase I don't know if scammers can succeed in deceiving even a newbie because a day old investor should know that anything that has to do with his or her seed phrase is dangerous and shouldn't be given to someone else.

Scams are just more than feeding on people's ignorance and greed. Scams whether it happens in crypto or else where feeds on the psychology of the people. It is a psychological-mind twisting-activity.

I have talked to people who are victims and almost-victims of scams and they tell you that they realize that they have been scammed after this or they almost fell for a scam but they asked themselves a counter-question that made they realize that they were about to become scammed and they came back to their senses.

It is not always about greed.

Well, newbies are their easiest targets cause their ignorance makes them very vulnerable but their are some newbies that are very smart and careful online not to lose money to scammers.

The reason why people relate crypto scams to newbies most of the time is that newbies are usually more vulnerable than experienced users because when you get into something as a newbie, you wouldn't know much about things, and you will barely understand what's right and what's wrong. So even if someone tells you something is right when it's actually wrong, you will believe them because you have limited knowledge about that thing yourself.

When someone has been around for some time, and has probably seen others getting scammed or read about scams and how they are carried out, even if they are not very smart, it will ring a bell if a scammer approaches them with trying to use a technique that they've read about and know is a way used by scammers to scam people. Newbies don't have this thing in them, that's what makes them easier targets.

I doubt if anyone with the experience would be ignorant enough to release his/her seed phrase to strangers. Worse comes to worst, the person with experience might just create a new wallet that is empty or use a wallet containing a very small amount for the supposed offer that might even sound funny and too good to be true.

We most times attribute these scams to newbies because majority of them always want to cut corners. Massive and unrealistic rewards doesn't raise questions. But for experts, it is quite almost the opposite. The only ignorance that i feel some suppose crypto enthusiast have, is that of their own security. There are few that might still prefer to save their seeds online, or in an online closed source password manager like the story a user shared on this same board recently. But regardless, everyone need to be careful.

You both have valid points here. While greed can be a factor in scams, I think it's more about awareness and basic security habits.
Even experienced users can make mistakes, or even if you are a professional, or even if you can claim you are very well secured already.

For me, whether you're a newbie or an expert, the rule remains the same: practice basic securities, prevention is better than cure.

New people in the crypto world are more likely to fall for scams because they do not know much and do not have a lot of experience. When anyone new to something he mostly rely on others for help and scammers take advantage of this. Newbies may find it hard to guess about opportunity is real or scam because they do not understand crypto world very well. On the other hand people who have been around for sometime have learned from others mistakes and know how scammers try to trick. This kind of knowledge helps protect them from scammers. That is why newbies mostly ones scammers try to trick. This is showing that how important it is for people in crypto community to be careful and aware of scams.

Whether you're new to digital assets or a seasoned investor, anyone can fall victim. I never thought it could happen to me but it came in a way I didn’t suspect, through a singaporean friend I was talking to on tinder. I feel stupid because I trusted her and I was greedy too. The eye opener for me was Wagner Andreas on Quora who pointed out it was a scam and assisted with the recovery of my invested amount after writing him through thevaultechteam at yahoo.com. I learnt there’s no way to high rewarding quick money, most of the time, anyone promising that is trying to scam you. Please be careful out there.

Greed indeed plays the great role to being a scam.  Without being greedy, there will be no people who would fell victim to crypto scams.  We all know that scammers often give an enticing offers triggering the individual's greed.  Most of them are too good to be true and yet people due to being blinded by greed fell for it.  I have a personal experience about this thing.  My friend, no matter how hard I persuaded him that what he entered was a scam company, never heeded my advice.

At the end of the day, he end up spending $40,000 trying to increase his earnings but ends up unable to withdraw his earning until the company shutsdown.  Now he is hiring lawyer to sue the company but in vain since the people behind that company had flown outside the country.

Whether you're new to digital assets or a seasoned investor, anyone can fall victim. If you are a guy, is it possible that you are attracted to that woman? And that situation became the leverage of that person to scam you of your money?  Trust indeed is another thing why lots of people got scammed.  It is because our trusted friend had introduce the company to us makes us invest on it unhesitantly.  BTW did you recover your money?

Maybe the free money he was offered was very huge that he couldn't decline, maybe he might be ignorant but their are people even those with better understanding of the implications of releasing their passphrase that would overlook the implications and release their phrase to the scammer out of greed, everyone just needs to be more careful and avoid being greedy cause many have been scammed due to greed both ignorant and experienced crypto enthusiast.

But why are people eager to reap where they did not sow? Like I mean why would anyone be tempted to to receive an offer that they actually did not work for. Just this morning I saw a clip of someone who lost his over 2k Pi just because he clicked on a link to claim free 300 Pi not knowing it was a phishing site with scammers behind the scene. You'll be ask to enter your wallet seed to claim the offer which is an obvious flag but greed will not allow people to notice that.

Mistakes like this very one is not ignorance in my opinion, It's a total foolishness. I think the first thing to learn the moment you chose to venture into this crypto space is how to guard and manage your wallet security. Ignorance is never an excuse here but greed and foolishness are responsible.

Anyone can be targeted and become of victim with the scams, there's a lot of factor, we are still human which can be deceived this is the reason why being knowledgeable with different attacks is a must because of this you can step forward even though they give you a lot of things to consider as a bait. Reason why its ideal to still vigilant into the internet space anyone can message you, and make a communication with you and we know how terror links are so stay away as possible to that unknown message with links. Dont get caught with just small amount.

The fact remains that scammers are getting smarter everyday and coming up with less obvious pattern that looks real to even the experienced persons. Greed puts lots of people in trouble and now it's not only about greed, but unnecessary compromise.

They don't offer big money nowadays, but worthwhile amounts that would leave you unsuspecting. Scammers now act reputable and according to agreements until they spot the heavy cashout they wanted and the person is swindled. We cannot be too careful, so we should scrutinize every opportunity and every company engagement by validating it's fully registered with the license it's operating.

Scammers are always targeting everyone whenever they are trying to scam, but they believe newbies are the once’s that do fall for their strategies easily, since they believe newbies are new to the crypto space, so they will easily fall for their trap, and that’s what’s happening, some newbies are always having wrong orientation, what they think about bitcoin is completely different from what bitcoin is all about, before they will realize what bitcoin is all about, they will have been scammed first.

I wonder why some people after suffering for so many months doing bounty only to lose their rewards to a common scammer who uses elementary knowledge to scam them, for goodness sake, why on earth should someone give out their wallet seed phrase in the first place?

Wallet security is the first thing to learn before starting your bounty journey and whatever you don't understand about the technicality of any wallet you can easily ask but never give your details to a third party learn to sort out your problems yourself That is why you don't expose your self to an outsider like in this case.

I agree. Back when staking was extremely profitable, I was a member of a community on Discord where I was approached by someone who impersonated the moderators of that community. I had asked a question and he came forward to "assist". He prompted me to a phishing website which required me to connect my Metamask wallet and it didn't connect straight away, but required the private key because automatic authentication didn't work.

I blindly submitted it, not knowing why, it was late at night and I was tired, not really an excuse but I still don't know how and why I proceeded. Thankfully, the moment I did it, adrenaline rushed over and I realized my mistake, I immediately moved all my funds to another wallet and saved my funds.

That is right thinking that only new people in cryptocurrency can get scammed is not true. Scammers take advantage of people who do not know better and those who are greedy so anyone can be victim. Newcomers might be more likely to get scammed because they do not know much but some are careful and smart online. Even experienced people can get scammed if they are greedy like someone who gave away their secret password thinking they would get free coins. Promise of easy money can make people forget about risks so it is very important for everyone to be careful when dealing with cryptocurrency. People should avoid being greedy and remember that scams are always threat so both new and experienced people need to stay alert to protect themselves.

I guess I can consider myself lucky because I haven't got scammed back when I was a newbie until now... or the scammers are just that dumb that I'm not falling to their scam attempt.  ??? ??? ??? Or maybe I'm not that ignorant because I focused on learning back when I was starting so I know how to determine which are scams and which are not. Not everyone can be a victim. Only those who can't distinguish which are scams and which are not are the ones that will get scammed.

Well, newbies are their easiest targets cause their ignorance makes them very vulnerable but their are some newbies that are very smart and careful online not to lose money to scammers.
Yes, I agree with that, and that's why we always say that if you're a newbie, consider equipping yourself with information first before investing your money because scammers are just lurking around the internet finding those newbies out there.

Although some can easily be fooled online. Well, sometimes you need to experience it first hand so that you will learn from it. There are some investors out there that will only learn when they experienced getting scammed. There are some that needs to be scammed twice or even thrice before learning which is for me... kind of funny. :D

I don't think that an intelligent investor will fall into this kind of trap. I don't believe that somebody that has an understanding on how this scam operates will fall on it. That would be the dumbest investor that I would know if investors like that exists.

Those who knows how this scam works will not fall on it that's for sure. Overlook the implications? Nah, I don't think so. Only newbies will fall into this kind of scam, but not those with enough knowledge anymore. Investors might be greedy, but I believe that they're intelligent enough to not fall into this scam.

Greed and ignorant are the main reasons while people fall victim to scam. When you have that urge of making money too quick whatever offer you see would attract you to make a try of making money. When people also fails to make research on things they know nothing about but too quick to give a try t see if it will work they will always end up into scam. There are newbies that have never been scammed before this is because they are not greedy and they pay so much attention to things just not to make mistakes.

if you can avoid greed and ignorant from the industry, it will be hard for you to be counted among the people that was scam because they always come with some surprising things that will make you lose emotions to do what they want you to do to have access to their offer. Make sure you follow the right direction to carry out your activities, and it will be hard for you to encounter scammers in your transaction because the moment you follow short cut, it will affect you to lose some money that will teach you lesson.

That is true, I have never been scammed because I learned a lot from people when I was newbie in this forum, and it has helped me to always identify scammers whenever they come my way because my response to them will make them know that I know what will happen at the end.

This line is quite important. If theres mentioned a free money, take a look on how to win that thing. If the prizes is so good then dont just jump in. There is a saying that "too good to be true are hoax" well in crypto space this is true. You might not decline it until you realize it was just a power tripping. Looks whose doing it chances its a fake project or impersonator of the real one.

Falling victim to scams is not just a newbie issue. Anyone can be scammed if they are not in the right state of mind; whether they are drunk, depressed, mentally down, or simply feeling too greedy. It can happen to anyone, so no one should assume that just because they have been in the crypto space for a long time, they are safe.

Scammers aren’t relaxing; they constantly invent new scamming techniques. It is necessary for everyone to stay vigilant and keep themselves updated on recent developments.

Anyone is vulnerable to being scammed, it depends on the level of knowledge between the scammer and the victim. No one of us is a bag of knowledge, don't also expect to be smarter than everyone, so the little way of avoiding scams is always being conscious about interactions around non mutual conversations. It is best not to disclose what you have, especially finance, once it gets to financially oversized offers just be careful because scammers give the most constructive and polite interactions.

Everyone can be scammed, just that is easier for newbies to be scammed, since they are new is the space, and they have little knowledge about what the space is all about, and most newbies are always having wrong orientation before joining the crypto space, so scammers are always taking advantage of that. Most newbies are always thinking that crypto space is where they can easily make money, so after joining, and they are not really making money, then they will be frustrated, and if they meet any scammer that makes fake promises, then they will fall for that.

But people that have been in the space for some time already understand how things work, they already have basic knowledge about how scammers operate, and what crypto space is all about, so it’s always kind of difficult to scam people like that, only if the scammer comes up with a strategy which looks so convincing.

I also agree with some of your reasons about it and I think the point is that people who get scammed usually lose focus, I see that fraud or scams often occur due to someone's negligence and we know that most types of fraud are by imitation or phishing methods, so people can easily be negligent in paying attention to it and eventually fall into the trap. However, I think there is one thing missing from some of your reasons, namely ignorance or lack of experience usually occurs in newbies or beginners especially in Crypto.

Just for information, recently there has also been an issue related to okx dex and several okx web3 users who have revoked their wallets, and some of the reasons are because their wallets have experienced Drain, and maybe this is also related to the news of the suspension of the dex aggregator service. I don't know for sure about this issue because I haven't experienced the same thing, but I think it's a good idea to revoke every time after linking a wallet.

Scammers feed on the ignorance of people. This scammers are so smart that the come up with new formats and they are very quick to advance as technology advances. Most times the target their victims using new technologies that has not gone viral yet. And in most of those cases even the experienced fall preys.

This is why if we must remain relevant and secured in this evolving Blockchain technology we just have to update our knowledge consistently. Those who are ready to learn, unlearn and relearn are less likely to fall victim because they might have idea about a new scam format through the knowledge the acquired while learning or the mighty out smart the scammer through experience and knowledge.

Exactly, greed and the desire to make quick and effortless profit or gains has made a lot of people to ignore warning signs even if their instincts are telling them that the scammer's words and promises sounds too good to be true. I have learnt from other people's experiences that it's important to prioritize contentment and patience rather than following the short routes and chasing get rich quick scheme. Newbies are not the only ones getting scammed even people that have been in crypto space for a very long time are also getting scammed too so yes anyone can be a victim.

People just want to make enough money by all means and this is why they fall into the trap of all this people because if not for greed it is not worth it at all when you see some investment you will know that it is not worth it at all and this is why when you see anything it is alway better to do or make your own research before making any form of decisions because a lot of things are to good to be true, it will.be better for every one to just hold or trade because does are the legitimate way that we know.

Instead of just accepting easily you make further enquiries because I get a lot of chats from telegram about investment and once I see those chat I block and delete because they are not relevant because no random person will chat you up if something is actually legit I don't think so. We just have to become smart with what ever we are doing if not a lot of people will want to take advantage.

And with the level of exposure that is out there i don't think people are suppose to be falling victim because everything you need to know is out there for us to see.

Well I see scam as something that almost not everyone can avoid and that's because it doesn't just end at greed being the main control factor, sometimes the scammers can target the human emotions and affection in a positive way and use it against them and that's why even crypto veterans and other fields who understands life well enough knowns and believe that virtually everyone can be scammed if the scammer play with the right music that suits the victim.

Yep, that's right, Mate!!!
Sometimes ignorance can also cause you to be scammed. because when a person is taken hostage by a scammer despite not being greedy, it shows that it is not about being greedy. despite lack of knowledge If a person does not fully understand, then it is certain that he can become a toy in the hands of a scammer.

So whenever someone discusses their financial matters, I always try to emphasize to him/her to first understand  the privacy stance. Like every person should be capable enough to monitor their own assets. Scammers are not people who recognize everything, while in fact, they abuse us by seeing our mistakes. So, if you gain knowledge and reflect deeply on these mistakes, you can avoid falling victim to scammers.

I was once a victim of a crypto scam. Some of you might not consider this a scam, but it was someone taking advantage of a person who didn’t really understand how crypto works. I will never forget this: someone offered to buy my ETH address/private key for $200. After giving the buyer my ETH private key, I saw a transaction from that address where the wallet received 400 UNI and then immediately sent it out. I was shocked to find out that there was an unclaimed bounty for those who used Uniswap. At that time, those 400 UNI were worth around $10,000 and all I got was $200 for buying the ETH address private key. I'm not totally newbie that time I just don't know that you can be rewarded by just using DEX on their early stage.

My rule: if it feels urgent + promises insane gains = it's probably a scam. Real alpha doesn't need to rush you.

Anyone who is not greedy and happy with what he has will never fall into a scammer trap because they offer him a huge amount, no one in their right senses will do such a thing, if you are not greedy you will never get scammed unless the scammers use another method to scam you because there is the different way they scam people, someone can not just message me to give me a gift or offer me a coin and ask me to drop my passphrase and I will do so, that will never happen.

I know that that people who get scammed mostly are newbies because I don’t as a person who knows much about crypto and knows that scammers are everywhere will fall into that trap, no one is above mistakes but the mistakes that will make a human being like you ask you for something and you do what he said is not a mistake, it is greedy and ignorance because I don’t think someone who is thinking normal will do that.

One thing that is obvious and concerning is that just like technology experiences upgrades, scammers are constantly upgrading their crafts. It's no longer when they use obvious means to launch at people, more, even some scam activities looks more real than legitimate ones.

I stumbled on a guy claiming to have a software that scans the Blockchain for lost wallets that had coins in them. If not that I've learned that Blockchain ledger contain transactions records and not wallets recovery seed phrases, I would've fallen for the trap that the scammer can search the Blockchain and retrieve seed phrases of lost wallets and access the coins in it. I would've paid him subscription if $300 to give me the software ;D

Aside from using phishing sites, scams by peaking conversations can be altered before it happen. To be safe, we should be quick to criticize when conversations are not following pattern, most victims are greedy to the extent of accepting offers as claimed by scammers, usually big and promising. Strangers are not ready to give out what gives them sufficient amount of money, they want to feed on victims greed and ignorance.

If he had the software and knew how to use it, why didn't he scan hundreds of wallets with lost coins and retrieve every piece of it, he should be making more gathering the wallets than selling the software to you for $300, certain suggestions from scammers are likely interpretable even with common reasoning and no Bitcoin knowledge.

You are absolutely correct, greed is the major thing that make people get scammed most times, I have a friend that always like taking risk and then there is this Ponzi scheme that came out some years ago, this my guy has been making profit from the Ponzi scheme and what he was doing was that any profit he makes, he will invest back all and then it get to a points where they where changing the withdrawal criteria and this my guy still went to invest everything at the end of the day the admin lock the group and they were not reachable again and this my guy invested over $1k he made from the Ponzi scheme, simply because he wants more.

Scam can come in any form which one who is not informed would likely fall for it. So far, I have been up and doing in noting new scams and happenings in the Crypto space so I do not think I will fall so easily for scam again. Although some people do fall for scam as a result of their ignorance and greed to get more than they bargained for and as a result of this they lose what they already got.

Indeed anyone can fall for scam. Of lately, news has it that the ripple founder was scammed of his assets years ago which he kept a secret till the sec of lately made it public and that was how the Crypto community got to know about it. Maybe he made a mistake which resulted to him losing his assets to scammers which I believe he wasn't comfortable to talk about it publicly and that made it obvious what happened.

A man of such experience in the industry should be the least to fall for scam but it happened to him which should serve as a teacher and lesson to every crypto enthusiast that anyone can fall for scam and that we need to be very careful with our engagement with people online when it comes to finance and handling of sensitive information and data.

Is obvious that most of this scamming cases we have being hearing in this forum both outside the forum all happens as a result of being greed, just like as you said about your friend who got scammed. Of course that's how most of this ponzi scheme works, I also remembered when a friend ask me to join one of those Ponzi scheme. Even before he introduced me to that platform I have already saw it in the media, then I tried to convince him that the project happens to be scam he refused just because he have tested the profit. And guess what happened......the guy later lose all his money both his profit everything just vanish as a result of over aiming.

Greed is the main reason why there are still people who fall to a scam even though they know that are a lot of scammers. Since there are a very few things that are free where you really get money and as a result that person become greedy and will find another the same thing until he/she falls to a person who is a scammer. If a person is not greedy then he/she won't fall to a scam or even get interested in free coins. My journey in crypto, if there's something that let you get free coins is that there's always a task that you should complete and there's no task that asked you to give seed phrase as it is completely scam.

I think if someone is taken hostage by scammers and their crypto assets made away with under duress, we can't categorically say it's ignorance until we ascertain how what happened happened. It could be something that isn't the victim's fault. It could be a case of the victim being at the wrong place when the kidnappers struck and got those around in their net. However, if what led to the hostage situation was from the victim because of their loud mouth of how much cryptos they've or how rich they're, then it's ignorance. It's ignorance because financial dealings are treated with certain level of secrecy and privacy.

Anyone can be a victim of a cryptocurrency scam whether you are a beginner or not. It takes one single mistake for a person to fall to the traps of scammers and that mistake can cost your entire cryptocurrency investment.

Due to a variety of reasons, almost all cryptocurrency veterans and investors recommend getting a hardware wallet to store all of your cryptocurrencies. If you keep and store them at your designate exchange which you downloaded from the appstore or playstore, this increases the risk of it being hacked or scam. Heck, even major cryptocurrency exchanges have been hacked multiple times over the years.

Also, it is very important to report any kind or type of scam in this forum for awareness. As our technology improves, scammers are also developing ways of creating fake websites, etc. to feed on the gullible minds of newbies.

You are right which is why we have been seeing some exchanges getting hacked not because they don't have a sophisticated security system but because of a minor mistakes. We are humans and we tend to make mistakes which is why we have am been seeing so many things happening in the market. Majority of cryptocurrency holders need to watch their security and improve it so silly mistakes don't happen that could cause a huge loses. Falling victim to scammers is something that had been happening for many years now and for the fact that it has not happened to us doesn't mean that we have very smart and have good security consciousness.

Fraudsters exist because there are greedy people. That's the point

Almost all victims of fraud are due to greed and ignorance. These two things will be the main weapons for fraudsters in carrying out their actions, having knowledge alone is not enough if you can't control greed so that's the main factor for fraudsters in finding their victims.

In addition, there are also consequences of their own negligence so they think they were deceived when in fact it was their own fault. I once read the story of a trader on social media about losing a lot of money in crypto because he sent the wrong address and what he sent to the fraudster's address. So he told the initial chronology, he lost a lot of money in crypto just because he copy-pasted the address from the transaction history.

He intended to transfer as usual, but it turned out that the address was fake and almost similar. This is because the fraudster sent crypto coins to many wallets, including the victim's wallet. Of course the reason is that the fraudster wanted the fraudster's address to appear in the victim's transaction history. When the victim wanted to transfer as usual, he just copied and pasted from the previous transaction history and the fraudster's address was selected. This may be a trivial matter, but we need to be aware of it, especially if our wallet often makes transactions with airdrops, it will be very dangerous and we need to be aware of it.

So far as you still believe that money can be made for free with working for it, then it is possible that you can end up to be scam victim. Greed and lack of understanding is the main reason why people normally for victim.

For one not to fall into scam their is needs for one to understand  how money works and being achieved,  if you understand that their is no free money,  their is no way you can easily for scam.

Truth be told, getting scammed (whether online or offline) isn't a newbie error though they're mostly hit. Besides greed and  ignorance as factors that can expose one to getting scammed, there's also mistake. Sometimes, one can be knowledgeable, not greedy but still fall prey to scammers. That's where mistake comes in.

I blindly submitted it, not knowing why, it was late at night and I was tired, not really an excuse but I still don't know how and why I proceeded.
This is why I like to approach my financial dealings majestically. If I'm tired and dizzy, I tend to skip that until when I've a clear head. Before I came to that resolution, I goofed a few times and learnt valuable lesson from that which formed my stance today.

Lets hope that honest mistake doesn't cost us regret because there are times we force ourselve to get to do a financial transaction in a haste especially sending out money. Money that is sent wrongly to a stranger may not come back except such person is a God fearing fellow but if it gets to the account of greedy people, it is gone. So sometimes like you said, if we fagged that, the best thing to do is to rest our head and continue when we are energetic.

However, we also should know that one of the ways that scammers get people is to hasten the victim up. They make things look urgent so that you won't have time to think through what is about to happen.

That is the importance of beginners must be careful and careful if they are involved in the world of crypto, we all understand that social media is currently the target for fraudsters to start the action.

General Actions Their Investment and Crypto Trading Section, because they know that many beginners are unfamiliar with how crypto works, do not be surprised if beginners are not careful and careful to enter their traps and end up losing their assets or money.

So before being trapped in a circle of fraud in the Crypto world, if there is information that is of information about the benefits or the like, first ask the closest people who understand the workings of Crypto, do not directly Take action or decisions, investigate in advance whether it is true or not, with us considering we will survive various fraud.

Fraud can happen to anyone who is not careful when entering the crypto world, especially if they are greedy, so it's not just beginners. The more sophisticated the technology, the smarter the fraudsters are in finding their victims, anyone who enters the crypto world is very important to continue to be careful in seeing things, both when joining a particular project or when clicking on messages from emails or so on.

In addition to what you have explained, to avoid crypto fraudsters we must have a community, such as in this forum or in a group. This is important if there is something important or something that makes us suspicious, we can ask our friends. Asking is something that must be in everyone who enters the crypto world, so don't pretend to know everything because the crypto world is very cruel to those who don't seek information.

One thing that is obvious and concerning is that just like technology experiences upgrades, scammers are constantly upgrading their crafts. It's no longer when they use obvious means to launch at people, more, even some scam activities looks more real than legitimate ones.

and some experience people are getting from scammers is now a high level shit that people can not even imagine since people are becoming smarter that that they start cloning websites that will compromise the security of your wallet and they are doing everything possible just to make a means and if this knowledge can be channeled into upgrading the system it will be better, but they will rather use it to steal from people.

Quote
I stumbled on a guy claiming to have a software that scans the Blockchain for lost wallets that had coins in them. If not that I've learned that Blockchain ledger contain transactions records and not wallets recovery seed phrases, I would've fallen for the trap that the scammer can search the Blockchain and retrieve seed phrases of lost wallets and access the coins in it. I would've paid him subscription if $300 to give me the software ;D

And these guys are always looking for ways to steal because why on earth does it think that the information is useful to you because what is the relevance, and it was luck that you were knowledgeable enough he would have wanted to take advantage of you, using the software, I just fucking hate does guys because of the kind of pain they are putting people through stealing what they did not work for and that is very bad and once cut they should be judged by the law.

You know if you're not greed definitely you won't find yourself in their midst, because once you're contented with what you have definitely you can not be moved by any offer. Because is only when we are trying to get something bigger or even looking for sites that sell their stuffs in lower amount, I think this are the few things that can easily make one to become a victim to scammers. Though most people may not get scammed through this process, it could be through online dating maybe when you finally become a friend to the person at some point he/she will start telling you about crypto trading or bitcoin investment. This is why we need to be extremely careful because those  scammers has too many strategies of getting what they want.

We also see many seminars on how to make quick money in crypto but you have to register first, and your money will be wasted in the end. This may be a big mistakes from the sender which has gone to another person's account. Sometimes such person might decide to leave the money there until they find the right owner, maybe if it's from someone they could know. In this casesome person will rather use the money and flex it since it's a free money. Any mistake made in cryptocurrency transactions should be seen as gone because there is no way such kind of money could be gotten or traced to the actual person the fund went to.

Now the problem is, anyone can be greedy, even the most experienced ones. That’s why all of us can be prone to scams if we cannot recognized it early. Aside from having sufficient knowledge and experience, discipline plays a vital role when it comes to getting rid of scams. If one lacks the discipline and emotional control, greed can easy developed which will lead him to where scam is.

You are right that being greedy is the main reason why people get scammed but sometimes being ignorance can be an added factor. Imagine one running an airdrop with your main wallet. Performing task during airdrop doesn't guarantee ta project to be scam free. Imagine one mistakenly log into a website made by scammers instead of the web of a good project. So being ignorance and careless can play a role here.

Greed can really do a lot right? One thing it does is to cloud one’s rational thinking and judgment, it becomes so clouded that you can’t even think about certain actions before taking them, as long as you see an opportunity to become rich, even when it already appears that it’s too risky to get involved, even when others take out their time to actually warm you about the risks, greed will make you ignore all the risks and advise and make you proceed without caution.

People are actually very greedy and they need to fix there self before any other thing because what most of this scammers presents are not even real so like why bother your self about, but people will want to take there chances and this is why you need to educate your self and be prepared so that when ever you encounter any issue of any form of false proposal you will be able to address it on time because the mistake people make is they don't have knowledge so it is more difficult for them.to actually be able to discard does false claims.

There is no gurantee in does airdrops but you can not really be able to actually tell so you just have to particular in other not to miss out. And what ever website you are operating you have to make sure it is the original and there things that if you don't take your time to accept learn then it will be a big challenge because people can not even tell the difference, especially when it comes to some website.

Cryptocurrency scam is not meant for beginners of this community only, it's something general that we need to know that some investment some of us who into crypto investment, should have know that is not all investment in crypto is a legit one, we have different scammers in different places, is not only the newbies that is supposed to be careful of scammers but generally all of us, I know that people get scammed on something that they're interested to get..and that's why many people is victims of scam, everyone supposed to be vigilant of scam.
Anybody can fall victim of scam either cryptocurrency or any valuable asset but I think the reason why people become victim of scam is because of greed which has made them to be too quick to act without making any finding if it is reliable or not. I jo it is possible for anyone to fall scam but beginners are the most targeted because they know nothing they are ignorant of many things and their desire for valuable things is high. Most people are able to control greed after they might have fallen for scam many times.

If big organisations and government agencies can be hacked swindled by scammers, I don't think how targeting a particular person. Anyone can pose to be anything on social media, and a great percentage of humanity fall into the category that wants to become rich by pulling others down. Thus is the reason there are many scammers and those that have made scamming others a lifestyle. We just need to be extra careful of different style scammers use because they are many.

Maybe the free money he was offered was very huge that he couldn't decline, maybe he might be ignorant but their are people even those with better understanding of the implications of releasing their passphrase that would overlook the implications and release their phrase to the scammer out of greed, everyone just needs to be more careful and avoid being greedy cause many have been scammed due to greed both ignorant and experienced crypto enthusiast.
sincerely speaking it is not everybody that can fall victim to crypto scams, those who are already experienced investors in the crypto space cant make themselves vulnerable to scams and frauds in the crypto space, because you can't expect someone who  have spend years in the crypto space to fall pray to crypto scam.
People I think that can be vulnerable to crypto scams are newbies who are coming into the crypto space, because they have little or no experience about the crypto space that's why they easily make themselves available to crypto scammers.

Of course those who are very deep in this crypto space don't fall victim to scammers so easily that's for those that are not greedy, because sometimes the reason why most of this experienced investors easily fall victim to scammers is due to greed. This is why most people think that everyone can fall victim to crypto scam without knowing that is due to thier greediness that made them fall victim to crypto scam. talking about newbies you know most newbies can be smarter than most of this experienced investors so whether you're experienced investors or not so far as you're greedy definitely you will fall victim to crypto scam, and  there's no two ways about it.

Everyone can become a victim, but I've never seen somebody who understands what could happen if they give someone else their seed phrase and share it. It is not just newbies that become victims, even those who have some experience in the crypto field can get scammed, it all depends on how smart you play with the scammers. Newbies are new to this forum, which is why many postings encourage them not to fall victim to scammers.

However, many individuals have been victims of crypto scams in the past and do not want newbies to go through the same thing. Some scammers do not even offer you more money than you have in your wallet, but greed leads many people to fall victim to a peanut. I have never been a victim online, and I don’t think I will ever be since I do not communicate with strangers online. That must be a lesson for him, and I hope he learns from this mistake.

I cannot say that this is entirely true that those who had been a victim can't be a victim again by another scammer.  There are people who never learn while they are stubborn in changing their belief.  I have known people who had been a victim of crypto scammer many times.  The problem with these people is that they are gullible and can't remove their greed.  They always look for a get rich quick scheme reason for them being scammed again and again.

To avoid being scammed, we must first remove our greed since it vague our reasoning.

People I think that can be vulnerable to crypto scams are newbies who are coming into the crypto space, because they have little or no experience about the crypto space that's why they easily make themselves available to crypto scammers.

In this case I agree with @OP, everyone is vulnerable to crypto scams, not only newbies.  There are scammers who are eloquent and often prey for those who have a soft heart, while other scammers are veterans in triggering people's greed.  There are cases where even educated people, and veterans in the industry get scammed so we should not be complacent because we are somehow knowledgeable in the crypto space.  We must always be vigilant and observant of things around us.

If people can be careful online and check well any thing they are doing , it will help them not to fall into scam and this may make scammers to be reduced in the society when they see they hardly see people to scam.

The only people that will fall victim to scammers are those that are looking for free things to earn big money  from the forum, because is another way scammers use to set traps to catch greed and ignorance people to fall victim to them.

Yes, newbies are new to this forum, but they need to pay attention to some trend where they use to expose those scammers strategies, and it will help them to have the knowledge on how to identify scammers anywhere.

Honestly, it’s easy to spot a scam especially if it’s done online. But here’s the truth, it could be very hard for those who are motivated with greed, and that everything that involves money, they will easily get deceived.

That’s why even old investors are still prone to that, because they are still driven by greed in all angles. And even if they have been scammed few months or years ago, that won’t guarantee that they won’t be scammed again. But somehow, at least they learned from that.

On a scale of 1-10%, you will discover that 6.5% scam victims were greenhorns while just 3.5% were savvys, but somehow a few savvys made a slight mistake that resulted to big lose for them. This thread [https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5536900.msg65229757#msg65229757] is an example for everyone to learn from, the member is an experienced crypto user but just a slight mistake made him lost so much.

You could be right but I was thinking the physical is the one that's easy to spot than online because on the first place is rare to encounter with them but the one I notice they have been doing on physical is sending fake traditional transfer for something they bought claiming it was successful and if the seller is not smart they're being scammed of the items, so that's it on physical that often occurs, but there are still other ones some people might be seeing more. but in terms of online just one mistake everything is gone, so actually online is not the easy way to spot them and even if you have ways to understand them other people might not spot it.

That’s true. Ignorance is also a very powerful tool that contributes to people being swindled of their money. Around 2 weeks ago, my cousin told me there was an exchange a friend of him told him about, said they’ll be sending daily trading signals and all you gotta do was copy the signals and paste it on your trade, and they’ll be able to double their initial deposit within a month. This sounded so good to be true because I know too well that no trader can send accurate signals everyday without losing a single trade, I told him to hold on so I could come over to take a look at the platform, but he went ahead and deposited over $500, he’s been pasting the trades since that day till today, he called me and told me the platform had crashed, I wasn’t surprised because I knew too well that’s what’s gon happen and if he had listen to me, he wouldn’t had lost his $500.

Yes, in the online space, no one is safe from scams because scams happen in various methods, and one of the most that's happening lately is the altcoin project team exit scam. or rugpull, which MANTRA is an example. Another example scam which one is FTX. However, the scam the OP used as an example is an obvious one, which I believe can only happen to a naive crypto enthusiast, and according to my research, scams mostly happen to people who are somehow inexperienced in the space. Although the greed may cause it in some ways but when a greedy person fully understands the scammer's approach, s/he can easily let go of his/her greed and never give in to the scammer's offer.

So far, many people have always introduced crypto as the most profitable investment to attract beginners, but very few of them explain that crypto also has high risks. As a result, beginners often lose both in investing, trading, or becoming victims of fraud. If you don't have enough knowledge about crypto, don't immediately believe in jumping into the crypto world because the crypto world is still very dangerous for ordinary people, however, we all know that there is a lot of fraud in the crypto world.

This fraud is something that cannot be separated from the crypto world because they always take advantage of opportunities, especially those who are greedy, it is very easy to become victims of fraud. Often fraud occurs not only because they don't have enough knowledge, they become victims because of greed. These two aspects provide easy access for fraudsters to carry out their actions.

Just as the OP has rightly, greed is one of the major reasons why people fall victim to scams. When they see huge profits they tend to engage in such business or investment without research. These scammers are also targeting the elderly.

These old people don't know much about cryptocurrencies so they are easily deceived. These retirees don't know much about cyber security and modern types of scams. Some of them also stay alone and don't have people that will enlighten them.

I believe that even though having knowledge and information about previous scams can assist you, having general knowledge and a good IQ can save a person from scams even if they are newbies.

I say this because for example, if a person is smart, even if they are completely new in a market or industry, if someone approaches them with an unrealistic offer or something that would eventually benefit them, they would have a tingle in their mind, and they will immediately think about why a complete stranger would want to help them get benefits, and that tingle can save them as it will put suspicion in their mind.

That's why, it's essential for people to have good general knowledge and understanding so that they can think critically about certain situations so that they can stay safe from scams instead of getting excited after getting offers from a complete strangers because no one cares about others in this world, and everyone is always looking for their own benefit.

Experience actually helps in all situations like this and since it's not everyone that will have the experience they can always red online the relevance of always holding unto every information you hear because if you don't take information since it will affect they don't have a choice because newbies are not always serious.

And the newbies need to be aware of the dangers of not having information on what step to take exactly when it comes security measures when you are holding a coin. You will know the value of what you are holding. It's an open source so newbies can search on common scams and how to aviod them because that is like the easier way for you to be free. Because there is a lot of guide line that can be seen on the internet so it won't make sence to lose the opportunity of not finding out the things you need to keep your funds safe.

Greed isn't the only reason why people lose money or Bitcoin, you can lose your entire networth by downloading anything on the internet without understanding that your laptop has been infected with some kind of malware that can steal your private keys or seed phrase. Some people are so intelligent that they can steal everything you have on your laptop, that's how good they are with hijacking and hide things on user's laptop without having any idea about it.

Let me give you a back story, there was one popular campaign manager that loss Bitcoin and everything withdrawn from his wallet without any idea how the person did it. It was a signature campaign money they stole from his wallet and he has to look for alternative means to pay back everyone that participated in that campaign. You don't want to tell me it's because the manager is greedy like that, it's definitely a malware attack on his system.

Aside from greed, naivity also partake why many people got scammed.  The lack of information how scammers cooperate and trusting people too much without any reserve.

With that, I would like to share some of the strategies of scammers that I happen to read here: https://us.norton.com/blog/online-scams/scammer-tactics and these are:

  • Impersonating legitimate organizations
  • Creating a sense of urgency
  • Intimidating victims with threats or legal action
  • Creating fear of missing out (FOMO)
  • Building trust or rapport
  • Using AI
  • Offering financial relief
  • Engaging in blackmail
  • Phishing for information
  • Exploiting engagement

The site also give instructions on how to protect ourselves from these scams:
  • Protect your personal information
  • Verify the legitimacy
  • Be wary of urgency
  • Trust your gut
  • Stay informed
(you can check the site for explanation)

Although all of us are susceptible to scams, knowledge and vigilance is the key in protecting ourselves from scams.

I understand the point that you are trying to make; online is not an easy place to spot scammers, but if you pay attention very well, you could be able to identify them, especially when you get a message from someone you barely know who tries to build friendship with you all of a sudden that shows they have some sort of hidden intentions in mind.

For physical in most cases, why some pay less concern to it is because the person who might come to do that fake wire transfer to you could be a familiar face, which you might not expect such from, which makes it appear less suspicious for the victim to detect.

If is about sudden request of friends on the online world is very easy to no that the person might be a scammer and one of the places I recall observing that is on the telegram because I have gotten several messages from people I don't no and from there profile you will no is someone on a disguise and the next minute they will drift from coming as a friend into introducing you to investment, so is very obvious that such person is a scammer, so you are right because that's one of the branch on online that's very easy to detect scammers but those who do not have an idea should take note of it.

I see people relating crypto scams to newbies only but the honest truth is that scammers feed on people's ignorance, not only that but greed as well, therefore anyone can be a victim, not only newbie. Well, newbies are their easiest targets cause their ignorance makes them very vulnerable but there are some newbies that are very smart and careful online not to lose money to scammers.

You are right. Scammers have many methods of scamming, but as you said, newbies are the easiest ones to get scammed because some of them lack the understanding of something in the crypto space that a scammer can use easily to get them as victims. Although sometimes greed is the cause, some newbies are too greedy, and that is why most of them fall victim to getting scammed.

However, you already said newbies, and once you mention newbies, it means someone who is new to something, so I believe, anyhow, it is regardless of how a newbie will think he’s smart; if a scammer is smarter, something will happen. The best thing is to have the knowledge of what you are doing to avoid getting scammed.

Anyone can be a victim to crypto scam, whether experienced or inexperienced. But newbies are always the target because they have little knowledge about crypto.A newbie can be less vulnerable when he doesn't believe things that seems too good to be true.Greed and ignorance are also the major reason why crypto users are scammed.
You can be educated and enlightened on all the crypto scams but if you're not informed on their new tricks you can likely be a victim also. The issue is not being educated but being informed, stay informed on their new tricks. It's good to be educated on their trick but don't rely on your outdated knowledge, keep researching on their new strategy to stay updated. This information goes to the newbies, avoid submitting your credentials to unknown entities in return for free money.Good things don't come freely without hardwork and patience, even in Freetown nothing is free.

Even if experienced people know about common scams newcomers might not know as much and can be easily tricked. If we want to stay safe we should keep learning about latest scams and how to avoid them. This means knowing about phishing and online fraud and other types of scams. Who are new to this it is good idea to actively look for information and learn how to spot and avoid scams. We can do this by reading about online safety and following trusted news and remain careful when dealing with people or websites we do not know. If we stay informed and careful we can lower risk of being scammed and stay safe. Scammers mostly try to trick people using psychological tactics so knowing about these tactics can also help us stay safe.
Information is the best thing for us to stay safe from all these latest crypto scams because even experienced and already existing crypto users do get scammed if they are not careful or not inform about the latest scam because the scammers are always active and looking for loopholes to exploit and scam people before they noticed it that is why information is always important especially the right information.

Newbies that get scammed easily are mostly to greed and they are been introduced to the crypto space because you know that who introduce you to crypto space have huge role to play in your success in the space because you will start from what you learn from him/her, the. Go further to learn what he/she asked you to learn, this means you will be in that position until you noticed something is wrong and decide to do further research to get more information which is very important.

Bitcointalk forum have been saving most of us from scam because we are getting the right information on time and the necessary knowledge we need to identify scam are always shared here, only the greedy once among us will easily fall for scam.

That’s obviously true.

Scammers have got all the schemes to every kind of people on the planet. Just as you would think to yourself to have seen it all and consider yourself above getting scammed, that’s just in the same way scammers have encountered the likes of just anyone and always go back to get designs for all kinds of people.

This simply means, you can be a victim even with you putting together a lot of caution to avoid this. You can only hope that some scammer out there doesn’t find you in your vulnerable state and exploit you for it.

Greed deceives people, and once these people have totally fall into greed, emotions are no longer controllable anymore that made them create impulsive decisions that they will regret later on. And to think that all human beings are born greedy, it’s not surprising that anyone can easily fall into different scams. That’s how these people learned their lessons the hard way afterwards.

Even though ignorance is also among the factors of being scammed by greediness, the first factor is because everyone has that greed in them, and you can’t change the fact. Let’s use your example as a case study, but you said passphrase. I don’t know how the scammer was able to scam the victim with only the passphrase, or maybe he had his seed phrase. We don’t know, but one fact is that the victim was also greedy because after having his own hard-earned money in his wallet, he still wanted a free token as a gift. That is the point of greediness.

So the truth is that everyone can be scammed, no doubt, but still it’s not everything that needs to be trusted online, and we all have to reduce our greed to not be victims of scams. Most importantly, you have to be smart in order to escape from those people because they are very wise.

You will be surprised if you see how naive some people are. On top of that, scammers are getting smarter day by day, so they are always looking for new ways and techniques to scam people, so some newbies who rely on information they've got for general scams might still fall in the traps of scammers who are smart and use a new trick for each plot.

Crypto scammers do feed on those with less knowledge about how they should secure their seed phrase or keep some  vital information private, it's easier for scammers to steal your crypo when you make use of the wrong moves. Most people thinks saving their seed phrase in their emails or cloud is actually the best way of safeguarding it Lol. This action is majorly practiced by newbies who thinks they've discovered a new medium, well at some point in my life I also taught same way, not until came across a blog that talks about backing up seed phrase offline

I always wonder if people will ever stop falling victim to scam incidents one day but unfortunately, i don’t  see that happening soon because just like you said scammers always change the tactics they use. The sooner people realize that there’s no shortcut to success in the crypto space, the better for them.

This is why education is important, many just want to come into the space to make quick profits instead of taking time to understand how things are done. Funny enough, some understand but I’ve allowed greed to cloud their decisions.

Scammers constantly innovate their methods to stay effective, and we can't rely on government intervention to stop them. While some get caught, many continue operating, as proven by the rising number of scam victims reported each year.

Our best defense is knowledge. Without it, we don’t belong in crypto. Ignorance leaves us vulnerable not just to scams, but also to our own careless mistakes.

And even if you know about online scams, without knowledge, you will still fall victim, but it will be better to just go for learning so that when you see any suspicious act, you will know how to attend to the situation on the ground, and even at that, we learn every day. and most especially you have to be very careful the kind of links you click because you can easy get hacked so there is just a lot of tricks this guys use to steal money from people.

Yes, anyone can be a victim of scammers, but you can't compare the rate at which newbies are scammed to those with more experience in the cryptocurrency industry. It is not only through releasing your seed phrase to scammers that someone can be scammed, people can be scammed in different ways.Even during the process of investing must newbies always fall victim. However, it is less likely to happen to someone who has gathered experience in the crypto industry. For new investors, it can be very hard to do their own research and identify the types of projects that are good to invest in and it easiest ways newbies got scam.

Currently, most newbies are getting scammed by investing in the wrong projects. This highlights the importance of knowledge, it is power. Anyone with sufficient knowledge will rarely be misled.I understand that there are people who are not complete newbies but still get scammed.bu, I would conclude that such individuals often lack adequate knowledge. Anyone with deep knowledge about crypto industry will find it harder to be so greedy because it know that is greediness will surely lead him or her to wrong direction.

That’s just the facts: a lot of the newbies were scammed after investing in the wrong projects, and what is causing it is that they refuse to seek knowledge before they introduce themselves to the investment. The world of cryptocurrency is all about having knowledge about the crypto techniques to make everything easy.

But some people take cryptocurrencies as simply places where they can just come and begin to earn money within a month, and in this life nothing good comes easy. Anyone who wants to become something better in the future must go through a lot before achieving success.

Sometimes you can never be too careful with this thins scammers does for a living because you know why? People that does this scamming thing aren't just ordinary web3 users but a good developer that understands the game far better than ordinary users and they play their things in a way that you never know their next move, instead of them to create something for good so other people can use them, they use them for evils, for example, malware are not created by ordinary people, only an expert create these things.

If you want to avoid all this trashy things on the web, go off the internet and don't connect your wallet on the internet. If you want to surf the web with some funds, use a burner wallet where you can put insignificant funds incase you later step on any internet mines, the damage wouldn't be that huge compared to when you put all you have on the internet, the more you interact your wallet on different websites, the high chance of you getting drain later.

Yes not everyone that fall a victim of crypto scam, the thing is that some people don't want to understand that in cryptocurrency many people use it as scam by investing on crypto, but if you know about crypto very well you will not be victim of scam, because what they normally preached to them is that they will double their investment times 3, and people who is ignorant of Bitcoin investment will like to invest because they have chances of making double of what they invested, so people who they scam through cryptocurrency lack information of cryptocurrency, and secondly it's greediness that make some people to enter into such kind of investment without making a proper research of everything.

Some people are not willing to compromise on securing their computers and are careful to avoid mistakes. By ensuring your wallets and funds and not being reckless or hasty, you will be safe from their attacks. You just need to avoid publicly disclosing your investments, do not ask for help from strangers, and refrain from messaging them. You also have to check the scam section on the forum, the latest videos on YouTube, and popular news blogs to learn about the method and strategy used by the attacker to deceive their victims. For example, for years, we did not know about artificial intelligence or deepfake techniques. These were the latest strategies used by scammers.

The path of learning and knowledge is endless. If someone stops acquiring knowledge and stays unaware of the latest techniques used by scammers, they might fall into their traps one day.

That’s just the facts: a lot of the newbies were scammed after investing in the wrong projects, and what is causing it is that they refuse to seek knowledge before they introduce themselves to the investment.
Most newbies lack proper orientation before entering the crypto space, some of them do discover about crypto from different crypto groups which are just created to promote their coins, and encourage people to invest in there coins. When newbies join groups like this, group owners do brainwash them, and they will be pushed to invest in their projects, which they will end up losing their money.

There are different ways which newbies can lose money, so they just have to be careful. When it comes to crypto space, don’t trust anyone, always make sure you are smart, and make sure you do your research first before investing in any coin, don’t invest in coin base on recommendation from people, or maybe their is hype in the coin at that moment, always secure your passwords, and your seed phrase, make sure they are not stored in anywhere their is interest connection.

Rightly said: not only newbies are victims of scam, anyone can be scammed. If you don't have contentment, you will always fall a victim of scam because, scammers will always present something that will catch your attention like a 'hit big' and because, of how juicy it will look people fall into it. The watch word is contentment.

Truth is, mistakes are inevitable, even for the best of us. Sometimes, when you're in a hurry or want to quickly complete a transaction, you mightn't be careful enough. This can lead to scams, especially with P2P exchanges.

For instance, a scammer might offer a slightly lower rate, using similar figures to confuse you. Instead of ₦69,600, they might offer ₦60,900. In your haste, you might complete the transaction without noticing the difference.

So I do advise against making transactions or taking serious decisions when you're in an emotional state or in a hurry. Any  decisions involving money should be made when you're calm and composed. This can save you from potential harm or scam.

nobody is exempted in scam, so therefore we need to understand that people will scam you base what you have in mind and base on what you're curious to achieve, in Ponzi scheme many people has been scammed base on they needed to make a profit from their investment, so therefore we need to know that we have to understand anyone or anything you are curious to achieve people can scam you with that, so that's what I want you to understand.

Everyone can be victim of a scam it depends on what you're pursuing, in cryptocurrency many persons has being scammed and because they were looking a place that they will invest that will give them a large profit, so that's why is good for we to investigate before we invest.

You don't need to be a newbie to fall scam, ignorance is the main reason why scams are all over. There are investors who are into Bitcoin trading/investment yet they poorly know how to secure their wallets, while most of them make use of CEX they are not concerned about little ways of getting scammed like Gmail attack or clicking and accepting unsupported links, some crypto users who participate in airdrops and giveaway task are not away that accepting to link your wallet to any proclaimed airdrop site is 100% on the line of losing everything he has holding in his wallet.

If we want to help with security, we first need to eradicate ignorance and give lessons on how to avoid such traits when we see them.
