Title: Help - I lost $6000 on Trustwallet - learn from this Post by: goldkingcoiner on March 31, 2025, 08:14:02 PM I use Trustwallet to swap between tokens. This has worked for me for a long time.
Now, am I correct to think I traded a fake BUSD token? Or did I got tricked by a BUSD low volume look-alike/honeypot? I did use the built in swap feature of Trustwallet. Same network, (Binance Chain) but the BUSD was fake. Binance USD (Wormhole) (BUSD) is the real name but it only appears as BUSD in Trustwallet. The custom token was disabled, yet the token I swapped was still displayed in the interface, which led to confusion. https://talkimg.com/images/2025/04/21/U2UjAz.png This is the symbol. When using the Trustwallet swap UI, the symbol is made to look extremely similar to the original because the Trustwallet UI blocks out the parts on the image that are different. My address: https://bscscan.com/address/0xcead2244f04ca3ff2824708e545aa6bb1c24dc0c The fake token in question: https://bscscan.com/token/0x035de3679e692c471072d1a09beb9298fbb2bd31 Transaction Hash: 0xec94cb8c6b92625fb9f6d114efcd66501a3e9401ec171f8af53044d41d7fdcfb (https://bscscan.com/tx/0xec94cb8c6b92625fb9f6d114efcd66501a3e9401ec171f8af53044d41d7fdcfb) What it looks like on Trustwallet: Customized token settings is OFF for the fake BUSD: https://talkimg.com/images/2025/04/05/lpWKv.png Yet it still appears at the top when searching BUSD in Trustwallet: https://talkimg.com/images/2025/04/05/lpqHH.png If you press the “info” button for the token details then it results in an error, preventing from verifying important details like the token’s liquidity and contract address before the swap: https://talkimg.com/images/2025/04/04/lbbvj.png "scammed" by sloppy UI. Thanks Trustwallet. This was the trade: https://talkimg.com/images/2025/03/31/lJL3j.png Trying to trade it to the real BUSD looks like this: https://talkimg.com/images/2025/03/31/lJVJc.png But Trustwallet is giving me a false estimate. THERE IS NO LIQUIDITY. So I cannot trade back. What do I do now? Try to exchange the fake tokens back? Nope. No Liquidity. On Trustwallet it shows me I can get 150 USD back in a swap but I cannot even use 1inch to exchange it due to 100% slippage. I thought of myself a veteran when it comes to cryptocurrency, but one small mistake and almost 6k gone. Let this be a lesson to the newbies here: Always triple and quadruple check what you are swapping for. You could end up swapping your money for worthless trash by accident. This really sucks. :( :'( All of this is because Trustwallet will not implement user protection by at LEAST warning them the same way every other dex does and had I traded on 1Inch, Pancakeswap or any other serious dex, I would see a warning like this: https://talkimg.com/images/2025/04/01/lccB9.png edit: no, I did not add any custom tokens. From my point of view, there should not have been a swap option visible for the illiquid token in the first place. This has worked for me for a long time. Now, I think I traded a fake BUSD token. OR I got tricked by a BUSD low volume look-alike or a honeypot. Either way I consider it a scam. Sorry for the loss goldkingcoiner. This is the reason I don't work with meme coins and if there be any need for that it should be done on a separate wallet that is funded with the funds just for that particular process. Aside from this too trust wallet sucks it used to be a fairly good wallet back in the day but currently it's worse.I thought of myself a veteran when it comes to cryptocurrency, but one small mistake and almost 6k gone. Let this be a lesson to the newbies here: Always triple and quadruple check what you are swapping for. You could end up swapping your money for worthless trash by accident. This really sucks. It's security is way low and so many vulnerabilities are easily exploited. I'm sure you too have seen similar incidents of fake contracts too. All I can say is try to be optimally careful with meme coins infact don't ignore the tiniest detail. Must guys don't even get to a chance to get them back while some who did report to the appropriate team got them back. here is a similar case on trust wallet https://community.trustwallet.com/t/swap-problem-tokens-missing/301062 Title: Re: I got scammed $6000 by a token on Trustwallet - learn from me Post by: BitMaxz on March 31, 2025, 08:41:54 PM Sorry for your loss but how exactly you got scammed?
Did you swap to 3rd party site? And in what site? So that other people are aware about the site. Trustwallet have builtin swap feature why you didn't use the builtin feature? Or maybe you swap them inside the app? But how exactly you've been scammed? TrustWallet is a bit buggy there are some reports that after they swap their coins to other coins in different network their coins are gone but the fact is the network where they swap is disable it needs to be enable if you want to see your swapped coins. So maybe you have similar case? Here are the original smart contract addresses on CMC (https://coinmarketcap.com/ar/currencies/binance-usd/). Indeed, caution is necessary when performing a quick swap via Trust Wallet. People can also rely on Pancakeswap or any DEX and manually input the correct coin contract address, which provides more security than hastily swapping without focus, potentially leading to significant financial losses. Title: Re: Help - I got scammed $6000 by a token on Trustwallet - learn from my mistakes Post by: HONDACD125 on March 31, 2025, 10:35:48 PM I'm sorry to hear about your loss. It's true that whenever you are making financial actions, always make sure to double-check whether you are doing things correctly or not because exploits are everywhere these days, and even the most experienced users can get scammed even when they feel they are doing everything perfectly. Now, the screenshot you have shared, it shows that even though the icon isn't completely visible on the swap page, but if you notice, you can still see a portion of the Ethereum logo on the left side. These are the details that can save one but only if they look carefully.
Newbies should avoid using swaps and decentralized platforms because they contain too many risks, and newbies can easily get scammed. It's better for them to use centralized exchanges where duplicate tokens can't scam you because centralized exchanges only list coins and tokens after approval and everything. I've seen this trick in some other wallets done by these scammers. Title: Re: Help - I got scammed $6000 by a token on Trustwallet - learn from my mistakes Post by: JoyMarsha on April 01, 2025, 12:11:48 AM This feels bad. I am sorry you lost your crypto coins to a fake busd when you thought you had everything under your control since that's what you normally do. Swap your coins peacefully on your trustwallet without any issues.
Of late, because of the high rise of scams, it should be a mandatory attitude to always cross check addresses or coins sent to you before clicking on send. Whatever that is sent or swapped is not reversible in crypto, that's the ugly part of it. Nobody is actually bigger than falling into a minor mistake that could be avoided by simply cross checking gradually without rush Title: Re: Help - I got scammed $6000 by a token on Trustwallet - learn from my mistakes Post by: btcltcdigger on April 01, 2025, 08:56:47 AM Veteran user or not, stuff like this will happen to everyone sooner or later. One moment of distraction and bam, you get hooked Title: Re: Help - I got scammed $6000 by a token on Trustwallet - learn from my mistakes Post by: God Of Thunder on April 01, 2025, 12:23:23 PM What do I do now? Try to exchange the fake tokens back? On Trustwallet it shows me I can get 150 USD back in a swap but I cannot even use 1inch to exchange it to do 100% loss. All of this is because Trustwallet will not implement user protection by at LEAST warning them the same way every other dex does: Had I traded on 1Inch, I would see a warning like this. Same with Pancakeswap or any other serious dex: I know that you are the person who made the mistake. But Trust Wallet shares the blame here. They are doing nothing to protect their users. Personally, I have not used Trust Wallet for a long time now, I don't know what it looked like and what options you had when you swapped. When I make a swap on DEXes, I usually check coinmarketcap and verify their smart contract first before I perform a swap. I suggest everyone do the same before you perform a swap. It's better to spend some time verifying the smart contract than be sorry for your mistake. Your thread is an example that no matter how experienced you are, you can still make mistakes. Title: Re: Help - I got scammed $6000 by a token on Trustwallet - learn from my mistakes Post by: PrivacyG on April 01, 2025, 01:14:50 PM This is so enraging. You have to be careful what contracts you sign because you may lose your Shitcoins, although smart contracts are pretty much never readable by the average user. Now you have to worry about making sure the correct BUSD is chosen because in a matter of time maybe you will have to choose the right between hundreds of wrongs.
I suppose you already read a lot of replies calling you out for not checking the coin address before hand so I will not deepen the wound. I fiddled with some of these Shitcoins a long while ago and ignoring the fact that I always had to be worried about maybe signing the wrong smart contract, I always checked at least three to four times that the right address of the coin has been chosen and I would even double check its legitimacy using a separate device connected to a separate internet connection. Call me paranoid but so far I have never lost any Shitcoin to a scammer through a mistake. When I found out that the wrong smart contract may end up being a trap planted by some scammer, I decided to split my Shitcoins into a separate wallet for each. Meta Mask and I believe even Trust Wallet is easy to work with in this case because it is easy to switch between wallets. That was my way of, sort of splitting the eggs into multiple baskets in case of a disaster. This always convinces me that sticking to strictly Bitcoin and Monero is the best choice I ever took. No more stress. No more unnecessarily complicated mess. Title: Re: Help - I got scammed $6000 by a token on Trustwallet - learn from my mistakes Post by: Ronsbit on April 01, 2025, 01:42:12 PM Sorry for your experience. It is unfortunate to have such an experience, even for a veteran in the crypto space. This demonstrates that no one is immune to mistakes, and the only thing left is for individuals to be cautious whenever they engage in any transaction or activity involving cryptocurrency exchange. Maybe you trusted the system because you have long been using it for transactions, and you least expected this to happen, and unfortunately, the unexpected happened without you having any knowledge of its possible occurrence.
I will also advise other members to also do well to constantly do a check on addresses before they carry out any transaction so they do not have similar experience. Irrespective of how long they have been using that medium to conduct transactions, it is important to take note of it because anything could happen, just like what happened to OP. I believe this would serve as a lesson to others to learn from that it is good to always do a routine check whenever we want to do do transaction. As for contract verification, you can use this website to verify honeypot.is (http://honeypot.is) to know if the contract address is genuine or not. Title: Re: Help - I got scammed $6000 by a token on Trustwallet - learn from my mistakes Post by: crwth on April 01, 2025, 01:51:58 PM Trust Wallet should improve its security and all those verifications with legitimate contracts that it has. I know that in other wallets, you would be notified if you are transacting with a non-verified contract address, and maybe that’s when you would check if it is a legitimate contract.
OP, I am sorry for your loss. When I swap for BUSD, the real BUSD is always at the top of the search bar. Trustwallet showed me the wrong token this time at the top. Sometimes the search function does not even work properly on Trustwallet! And it freezes up and shows me nothing or the wrong coins to the ones I searched for. So I have to restart the app if I want to unbug it. And contract address? You would need to DYOR for that because Trustwallet does not show sufficient details on the app. Title: Re: Help - I got scammed $6000 by a token on Trustwallet - learn from my mistakes Post by: moneystery on April 01, 2025, 03:06:12 PM even for crypto veterans like you it is still possible to get scammed like this, let alone those who are new to crypto, they are most vulnerable to being scammed if they are not careful about this. this is a lesson for all of us to be more careful in using the built-in swap feature of trustwallet because it is only more vulnerable to scams like this. i will not comment anymore on what should be done, but this is a warning for us to be more careful using this application until they fix their security issues.

Sorry, goldkingcoiner, this was really an awful situation that you experienced. The reason why I don't like using swap DEX is because of the warning that usually displays when I am trading, the warning always says, "make sure to verify that the token you are swapping to is the same contract address with the original token you want" Seeing the warning, I will manually go and copy the contract address of the original token I want to trade and I will paste it on the search to make sure that am trading the right token. That made me stop using swap, I would rather deposit to centralized exchange and trade.
@goldkingcoiner, why did you choose to swap to BUSD when binance already announced that they will discontinue BUSD? Quote In a formal statement issued on September 1, 2023, Binance announced it would discontinue support for its proprietary stablecoin, BUSD. The company advised users in possession of Binance USD assets to migrate to First Digital USD (FDUSD), with the conclusion of this transition set for February 2024. Double-checking for verification is always necessary to avoid some mistakes like this and also mistakes like sending to a wrong wallet address, mistakes that could all be costly. However, I am not used to trust wallet and I haven't gotten this kind of experience before because I'm used to electrum and binance. If I use Binance to buy bitcoin through p2p I can send from there to the electrum Wallet.Actually, if I want to swap my coins to any other currency I am sure to swap to the ones I know about and not any meme coin. If this still happens and another victim comes here for this thread, it will not be surprising anymore. BUSD is still in use in Binance and some of their platforms, they can't however just create more BUSD as far as I know which means there is the need to monitor BUSD. Title: Re: I got scammed $6000 by a token on Trustwallet - learn from me Post by: Z_MBFM on April 01, 2025, 05:48:09 PM I use Trustwallet to swap between tokens. This has worked for me for a long time. Now, I think I traded a fake BUSD token. OR I got tricked by a BUSD low volume look-alike or a honeypot. Either way I consider it a scam. This is a very sad incident. $6k is a very big amount. Before swapping any token on any DEX, the contract address has to be verified. This is something that everyone does during new coin swaps, but it is not usually done in the case of old and popular coins. It is not a problem that new coins are being added to a wallet constantly, but how can a fake coin using the same name and logo of a popular coin be kept in a popular wallet like a trust wallet? They are completely responsible for this. Despite being such a big company, they do not ban these fake coins. I thought of myself a veteran when it comes to cryptocurrency, but one small mistake and almost 6k gone. Let this be a lesson to the newbies here: Always triple and quadruple check what you are swapping for. You could end up swapping your money for worthless trash by accident. This really sucks. Title: Re: Help - I got scammed $6000 by a token on Trustwallet - learn from my mistakes Post by: Sim_card on April 01, 2025, 06:05:17 PM Sorry for your loss. You didn't notice that the trust wallet UI was fake because it looks exactly like the original. Anyone will fall for this because you wouldn't think that such thing would happen. It's better that people using trust wallet should be very careful or better still avoid using it to avoid similar scam.

The lesson is for everyone for me, not just newbies. If you a veteran can make such a mistake, it is possible for everyone else. Let this be a lesson to the newbies here: Always triple and quadruple check what you are swapping for. You could end up swapping your money for worthless trash by accident. Double-checking for verification is always necessary to avoid some mistakes like this and also mistakes like sending to a wrong wallet address, mistakes that could all be costly. Some reasons why some people fail to double check each time are 1 - Fatigue 2 - Assumption 3 - Trying to transact Hastily. If we take note of this, we will be doing ourselves a great good. You are right; the list you have made contains mostly the reasons why mistakes of this nature occur. Let me add up to this; Over trusting the system to be genuine reasons being that one got it from a reliable source which can not be verified and in some cases, the source they got such from do not even do their verification because they too never used it. Another reason is that when carrying out the transaction, there might be some form of distraction that could draw the attention of whoever is transacting, and in the cause of being distracted, they might not look into what they are doing, and this might lead to a mistake on their part. Title: Re: Help - I got scammed $6000 by a token on Trustwallet - learn from this Post by: avp2306 on April 01, 2025, 10:20:49 PM Sorry for your loss but how exactly you got scammed? Did you swap to 3rd party site? And in what site? So that other people are aware about the site. Trustwallet have builtin swap feature why you didn't use the builtin feature? Or maybe you swap them inside the app? But how exactly you've been scammed? TrustWallet is a bit buggy there are some reports that after they swap their coins to other coins in different network their coins are gone but the fact is the network where they swap is disable it needs to be enable if you want to see your swapped coins. So maybe you have similar case? I did use the built in swap feature of Trustwallet. Same network swap but the BUSD was fake or something. Look at the transaction hash. Token: 0x035de3679e692c471072d1a09beb9298fbb2bd31 Binance USD (Wormhole) (BUSD) is the name https://bscscan.com/token/images/wormholebusdeth_32.png This is the symbol, when on the Trustwallet UI, is made to look extremely similar to the original. Transaction Hash: 0xec94cb8c6b92625fb9f6d114efcd66501a3e9401ec171f8af53044d41d7fdcfb (https://bscscan.com/tx/0xec94cb8c6b92625fb9f6d114efcd66501a3e9401ec171f8af53044d41d7fdcfb) My address: https://bscscan.com/address/0xcead2244f04ca3ff2824708e545aa6bb1c24dc0c This is so painful mistake and cost lots of money. This is also the reason why I don't use the built in swap feature of those wallet since aside from high fee's, we are prone to get an issue like this. Don't know if there's something else to do with this case but I think Trust wallet management would left it as it is especially that they can reason out that you made that swap legally. This incident warns lots of people to always check what they are doing and make sure that we pay attention upon swapping our coins. $6k is very big amount and what a huge waste of money gone from accident like this. Title: Re: Help - I got scammed $6000 by a token on Trustwallet - learn from my mistakes Post by: tabas on April 01, 2025, 11:37:38 PM Trust Wallet should improve its security and all those verifications with legitimate contracts that it has. I know that in other wallets, you would be notified if you are transacting with a non-verified contract address, and maybe that’s when you would check if it is a legitimate contract. I agree, they have to do this for the safety of their users. If, out of nowhere, some contracts need to be confirmed by the user, they should give some warning if it's from an unverified source. OP, I am sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing and making sure that no nobody else here in the forum would be victimized like this You wouldn't think there is a token spoofing BUSD since Trust wallet is the Binance owned wallet, they would have know something is alarming in the name itself and most probably they would have checked the contract also. Trust Wallet should have taken measures when this was first reported to them. They probably are aware of this, but I don't know if they've only given a warning or some improvement since I don't use this wallet. Title: Re: Help - I got scammed $6000 by a token on Trustwallet - learn from my mistakes Post by: FinneysTrueVision on April 02, 2025, 07:28:31 AM As far as I know, Wormhole bridged assets are legitimate tokens, although they might not be considered the canonical version of that token on a particular blockchain. Wormhole BUSD is worth around $1 when you look at price charts (https://www.coinbase.com/price/solana-busd-token-wormhole).
The reason you got such a small amount is because there is not a lot of liquidity on DEXs and that caused a huge price impact. It should have been a red flag when the quoted rate for 43.99 SOL was only 239 BUSD. I don’t know why Trust Wallet doesn’t show a warning as is standard practice on every DEX or aggregator that I have seen. It is a terrible design to not have the most basic user protection feature on their interface. It seems it's pretty common even when the TrustWallet EVM protection is enabled, I check my trust wallet again and compare them with the icon you previously posted. Like you said, you can see it first than the original BUSD; you're right, but the weird part is why it's peg with USDT in some chart when I search but according to some people who had similar cases but with different stable coins in the Wormhole bridge, their token is untradable, or if you swap them, the price drops to some percentage or 50%, not 100% pegged with USD. Why did TrustWallet put this token as trusted, but they didn't know there are many people who fall into this trap? Bitget Wallet is way better than Trust Wallet. I tried to search for BUSD, and they put untrusted fake BUSD in a separate place from the original one and give you a warning when you are going to use it. To be honest I wonder how well their dev teams does in their innovations because it's often common for customers to fall victim of scams and then complain about a feature they can improve on to avoid this before they usually do it. A really good lesson/reminder for everyone to be really cautious about swapping and also avoid using Trust wallet. For sometime now, I have stopped using Trust wallet and metamask. Then, I will just create an EVM wallet from metamask and because the app lag, I import my private keys to Trust wallet since the UI is more easy and responsive with interactions but with what happened to OP, there were alot of complaints and none seems to be rectified and I stopped immediately because I think the team got to comfortable with the governance token than the app itself. This is not a promotional or recommendation of any form, but if you are going to use a good Dex app with EVM, use RABBY wallet and Zerion, I like the RABBY most preferably because of their connection warning. If you have a new website that ask you to connect your wallet, it will give you some info like popularity of the website if it's popular or not, if it's listed in Defi lama or not and if the place is safe to connect your wallet, they have lots of dapps you can use which are all scan before you can interact, metamask is not improving in any form, worse in my opinion. That's obviously a honey pot. I have once bought BNB from binance and send to trust wallet and swapped it to a honey pot coin through pancake swap on trust wallet, but not the direct Swap after the coin pumped so high I couldn't sell it. When I wanted to sell it, it told me low liquidity pool, that I should increase my slippage taulerance which I did but still I never swapped it till date. I don't know if you have use pancake swap to import the particular busd.
If no then follow the steps 1) in the front page of the trust wallet use Dapp option 2) search for pancake swap 3) connect your trust wallet to pancake swap. 4) copy the contract address of that particular BUSD and paste on the search tool to import it. 5) click on max and swap to BNB 6) if the slippage taulerance is 1 increase to 10 or above Before swapping, and make sure that you have up to $4 BNB before you can perform such operation so that the fee can be deducted and swapped to your desire coin. But if you have done all this ppl procedure and it doesn't work for you then I don't think there is no other way for now. It hurts to loss a fraction to scammers, let alone a huge amount as you've done. I know it's not morally right to hit a man with blame when he's done. I was wondering why you never used the Contract Address of the token you swapped to find it out before swapping rather than search it. This is what I always do. I don't buy whatever token or coin on Trust Wallet or any Dex by just searching it. Nope. I use the CA. If it's a token I know I will constantly swap, I add it after swapping so I don't have to search for CA again when trying to swap it. I think our members should also do this. That way, chances of getting scammed or buying tokens that have migrated is avoided.

It is simply too risky from your point of view to incur a loss on such a large trade. Like literally the only places ou should be doing these trades are here, Bisq, anything listed here (https://bitmixlist.org/#exchanges), and reputable centralized exchanges like Kraken or Binance. That's not an advice we hear often, and I think we should warn about it more. Due to processing times and transaction fees we usually prefer to send all coins at once, and we usually do well, but it's just a matter of time until cases like these happen. And once the coins are lost, they're lost forever. Being your own bank has its dangers too, and you have to be aware of them and take responsibility for your mistakes. Title: Re: I got scammed $6000 by a token on Trustwallet - learn from me Post by: Franctoshi on April 06, 2025, 09:45:15 AM Sorry for your loss but how exactly you got scammed? Did you swap to 3rd party site? And in what site? So that other people are aware about the site. Trustwallet have builtin swap feature why you didn't use the builtin feature? Or maybe you swap them inside the app? But how exactly you've been scammed? TrustWallet is a bit buggy there are some reports that after they swap their coins to other coins in different network their coins are gone but the fact is the network where they swap is disable it needs to be enable if you want to see your swapped coins. So maybe you have similar case? From the look of things in the Op's explanations and with what I saw from the screenshots, thise scenario balls down to being a mistake done by the op during the process of swapping to BUSD, the Op is supposed to swap to BUSD which is the main coin, but I can see he chosed Binance token instead BUSD kind of confusing though, and couldn't be able to swap back to main chain he wants to. This Binance token could be one of these scam coins designed to trick people into thinking they're swapping their coins into main Binance Chain the (BUSD). Title: Re: Help - I lost $6000 on Trustwallet - learn from this Post by: Justbillywitt on April 06, 2025, 10:33:23 AM Op I feel your pain and frustration, this is really not a good thing to happen to anyone. $6k is not a small money just to lose like that. This is just like sending money to the wrong address. This your case has reminded me about an incident that happened to me as as a beginner in this space. When I sent a huge amount of money to a wrong address. An address I copied from Trust wallet too. I never saw any risk warning nothing at all. I was really inexperienced and I sent the coin from cex to Trust wallet that was how I lost the funds.Trust wallet lack of customer protection is really worrisome. I left Trust wallet due to many complaints from other users. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

So you would not even see the contract address or any further information on the Trustwallet app. I consider the name Trustwallet as false advertising in itself. I wonder how many other people have been lulled into a feeling of security before they lost their money in a similar fashion? I wonder then if you got the error message you displayed at least two times, why did you proceed with the swap when you couldn't verify the token you chose? Especially considering the amount of money that was at stake, the less I can understand why you didn't stop. It could've been a glitch of shitty Trust Wallet, it could've been a bug, whatever. For the desktop there's only a browser extension as far as I can see. Did you try to check there before you proceeded your swap? Have you abandoned to use Trust Wallet? If not, why not? A wallet that needs "trust" in its name is kinda suspicious in the first place and its it's to my knowledge closed-source, so not trustworthy. Sorry for your loss, an expensive lesson. I have never had the problem of confusing two look-alike tokens that have the same name before. But yes, a mal-functioning system should have been my first red flag about Trustwallet. Title: Re: Help - I got scammed $6000 by a token on Trustwallet - learn from my mistakes Post by: Mrbluntzy on April 13, 2025, 05:50:02 PM @goldkingcoiner, why did you choose to swap to BUSD when binance already announced that they will discontinue BUSD? Quote In a formal statement issued on September 1, 2023, Binance announced it would discontinue support for its proprietary stablecoin, BUSD. The company advised users in possession of Binance USD assets to migrate to First Digital USD (FDUSD), with the conclusion of this transition set for February 2024. Are you talking about the migration from BUSD on the BEP2 chain? I am sincerely sorry for your loss but one thing everyone should remember and that is always be conscious. you were damaged but warned everyone on this site, it's really great ! Everyone should warn everyone in the same way so that no one like you loses money and gets into trouble in the future.
Title: Re: Help - I lost $6000 on Trustwallet - learn from this Post by: goldkingcoiner on April 24, 2025, 03:25:50 PM After a bunch of back and forth with Trustwallet support, they obviously only give me the copy paste answers that are always the same:
They acknowledge their broken info button and the lacking safety features but they refuse to take responsibility for their defective and unsafe UI/UX . All I hear from them is: "We don't hold your funds therefore we are not legally liable" even though the issue is not who holds the funds but their broken UI which led to my loss of funds. Since Trustwallet refuses to implement a safe UI, we need to put some public pressure on them until they do. So now I am searching for other people who lost money on Trustwallet. Please post in this topic if you are one of those people or in support of this action. Why you have to waste your energy to change them?If you don't see they are good enough to use, leave them and there are other wallets for you here, even better. Trust wallet is close source, while you can have other wallets that are open source, not only have better and safer UI. https://walletscrutiny.com/?platform=allPlatforms&page=0&query-string=trust Title: Re: Help - I lost $6000 on Trustwallet - learn from this Post by: avp2306 on April 25, 2025, 08:00:17 AM After a bunch of back and forth with Trustwallet support, they obviously only give me the copy paste answers that are always the same: They acknowledge their broken info button and the lacking safety features but they refuse to take responsibility for their defective and unsafe UI/UX . They already think they don't have liability to the situation happen and they are just giving you a generic answer on what you have been asked to them. If I where you better to leave that wallet and find other alternative ones. Since that actions shows that they have lack of accountability on these situations happen. So for sure that they provably act the same if there's situation happened. And you already see how bad they approach on this situation so that's a great statement that they are not good listeners and will not take action on this issue. It seems they really had terrible reputation if we base it on the reviews they got on trustpilot https://www.trustpilot.com/review/trustwallet.com Title: Re: Help - I lost $6000 on Trustwallet - learn from this Post by: Son Of Blockchain (SOB) on April 25, 2025, 02:49:44 PM I am one of the users of Trust Wallet. That's his reason for creating this topic, so newbies would be careful not to make same mistake, this topic has showed that experience in the crypto space isn't enough and one has to be extremely careful when dealing with stuffs like token swap, P2P and even trading on wallets and exchanges cause the slightest error could make you lose huge funds just like he did.I feel so sorry for him too cause $6k is a huge money to lose out of mistake and I believe that lots of people who's come across this post have taken note of that error, cause I personally did immediately I read it, like he said, cross-check multiple times to ensure you're doing the right thing. I admire his generosity, despite losing such huge amount of funds he still had time to pass a massage and warn people concerning his mistake so they'll learn from it, well I heard that some people were able to recover their funds in situations as his and I hope he does too. Transaction Hash: 0xec94cb8c6b92625fb9f6d114efcd66501a3e9401ec171f8af53044d41d7fdcfb (https://bscscan.com/tx/0xec94cb8c6b92625fb9f6d114efcd66501a3e9401ec171f8af53044d41d7fdcfb) My address: https://bscscan.com/address/0xcead2244f04ca3ff2824708e545aa6bb1c24dc0c I always feel somehow using Trust wallet because of this reason. Pls correct me if I am wrong, you don't add the token yourself right? It was available in Trust wallet list of BNB and BUSD list right? I've seen similar thing with USDTs available in Trust wallet too, and they are fake, atleast not the real one. My question is why did Trust wallet allow these fake tokens in their list of coins available to switch on and use? They deserved to be dragged because of this, I mean if a legendary member of this forum can fall victim then newbies can fall victim too. I am sorry for your loss, $6000 is too much to be kept in Trust wallet normally, for me I would have move such amount into a hardware wallet. Title: Re: Help - I lost $6000 on Trustwallet - learn from this Post by: pawanjain on April 27, 2025, 02:05:36 PM I thought of myself a veteran when it comes to cryptocurrency, but one small mistake and almost 6k gone. I can say that from your avatar that you are indeed an old timer and it's very rare for old timers to commit such mistakes. May be it was just an oversight from your end but yeah, the loss is real and big. It's not a small amount and your case is a wake up call to everyone to check their transaction multiple times before initiating it. Nobody would want to lose such big amounts just because of a mere oversight. Title: Re: Help - I lost $6000 on Trustwallet - learn from this Post by: Cricktor on April 27, 2025, 04:02:15 PM Pls correct me if I am wrong, you don't add the token yourself right? I was about to check this again because from OP's post-mortem screenshots it's not clear to me why he chose the wrong token. Some posts later I see probably the picture a little more clear than I initially thought. But from this quote (highlights by me): I did not bridge anything. Both the SOL tokens and the BUSD (Wormhole) tokens are on Binance Chain, as is the real BUSD. I did not add any tokens. I merely used the swap function. When you search for a token before swap, it shows you the options. At the top it showed me BUSD but this was not the real BUSD. he didn't see what he showed in his initial post screenshot of search result (I took his screenshot and edited in my interpretation of how it likely looked like): https://talkimg.com/images/2025/04/27/U2EpX8.png My question is why did Trust wallet allow these fake tokens in their list of coins available to switch on and use? They deserved to be dragged because of this, I mean if a legendary member of this forum can fall victim then newbies can fall victim too. If Trust wallet allows to still show some fantasy tokens in the internal swap dialog when you search the swap target even when you didn't select or made those tokens active or to be shown, it's a complete fuck-up and terrible UI by Trust wallet. And of course they don't admit the UI issue here, nor an explanation why the "real" BUSD token wasn't shown as top hit anyway. (I can't prove what OP said that the "real" BUSD wasn't shown to him; we have to believe him.)Take my comments on this with a grain of salt because I'm not familiar with the internal swap feature and UI details of Trust wallet at all. I don't trust Trust wallet, I read too many issues with their software crap. What irritates me most is that OP got a lame error message while trying to inspect details about the swap target token AND still proceeded with the swap. By no means I want to sound any superior here, anybody can be fooled, me included. Just want to highlight that it's likely better to stop at such red flags and investigate further rather than to deep dive into muddy waters. I am sorry for your loss, $6000 is too much to be kept in Trust wallet normally, for me I would have move such amount into a hardware wallet. I wouldn't put even temporarily such an amount in a mobile phone wallet as I consider mobile phones less secure and controllable, but that's my security paranoia.Could a hardware wallet prevented this? Not sure as it wasn't a security issue of the mobile phone software hot wallet. With a hardware wallet you're still responsible to inspect all transaction details and know what you're about to sign a transaction for. If you choose the wrong swap target and don't realize this fact, then you could easily sign such a desastrous transaction also with a hardware wallet. The problem lies elsewhere. |
