There has been a recent news article about the FM claiming that they were able to access encrypted messages and emails to determine crypto related transactions and eventually led to the seizure of a large volume of money.

If you look at from the Ministerial side of things, keeping their habit of sucking money from the middle class side, money laundering is what is the biggest reason why they are not allowing crypto to become legal.

Even then, I would suggest people to avoid using Instant messenger apps to deal with crypto, you never know when you end up getting flagged as a false positive, but I could be overthinking - maybe they monitor accounts with excessive volumes before flagging them.

A lot of questions regarding who can view encrypted messages and so on come in but lets keep that aside for now.

I have seen this news more often in the recent days, but it maybe partially true because this law exists a long before Clause 247 of the Income Tax Bill but they just added digital space into that in the new act so yeah they can access personal data but only if they have valid proof that a person is holding undisclosed income. So we are poor, no need to worry. :P

However, I have a question, WhatsApp claims the messages are end-to-end encrypted, and they can't even read what message was sent so how Indian government officials are going to decrypt them.

Our FM already got quantum computer to decrypting process I guess. ;D

All this just basic info.
Any government official can ask you for password of your phone. you can give them or you can denied them.
currently no one in india can decrypt or unlock locked iphone 11 or newer android 12 or newer without damage data.
Also you must choice secure phone lock password and don't use face lock or fingerprint lock they can force you to unlock it.
On whatsapp do not backup on there server off chat backup if you are using.

Unless you been monitored with spyware in your phone there is nothing to fear.

This work bit different here in India, you can deny them even if you are guilty but need to be rich or backed by political party or the official can beat you to death and no one will ask any question and as higher punishment for that the officer will be suspended or just transferred so it does worth losing your life? :)

I hope government use this to track down my mother in law and maa. These two beauties terrorise our family members in family whatsapp group by posting good morning/good night every day and bitch about their bahus and husbands openly.

Disturbing part is we live in joint family and 90% group members lives under one roof.

LMFAO, You're not any different from any family in India. I hope they will track down the family group chats and find out all the gossips. ;D
