Title: Is this a bicycle? ...or a car?

It has two wheels, it must be a bicycle - right?  It has motor driven wheels, it must be a car?

Why have such a stupid argument?  It is not a fucking bicycle nor a car.  It is something new.  Not a bicycle; not a car.

Why is the IRS trying to decide whether bitcoin is 'property' or 'currency'.  It is not either.  It is something new.  It has new attributes never seen before.  It needs new rules.  Rules for property are totally inappropriate for bitcoin.  Rules for currency are inappropriate too.

Cryptocurrency is a new thing - stop trying to decide whether it is a bicycle or a car.  Let's start making new rules appropriate for this new thing.

I think for now the states in the US will use existing definitions of things with monetary value until further resolution at the national level (hence weird money laundering allegations).  Technology moves exponentially faster than law.

There's a lot of things that have those characteristics and are not a bicycle or a car.  A motorcycle or scooter, for example.  While I don't agree with how the IRS is treating Bitcoin, I don't understand the analogy.  For the purposes of operation, a motorcycle and a car are very similar (requires a license, insurance, obey laws, etc.).  You don't need to rewrite the rules every time something different comes out.  The problem is the IRS is trying to play both sides of the fence.

A joke is something spoken, written, or done with humorous intention. Jokes may have many different forms

I guess it depends on speed it can reach. Also it is only important from law point of view.

Another fascinating accomplishment of the Segway is that the CEO of the company managed to kill himself on one.  True fact.

That's pretty true. But if you think further, it's a transportation vehicle regardless...  and bitcoin is a currency..regardless..

I'm still lauching about this picture. I've had a great experience with these vehicles over at Rome.

Me and some friends were there for a holiday and we've met a guy who provided tourist tours with these vehicles throughout the city. After closing time, he invited us for a (free :D) private tour. The tour ends up to be like a "pub-crawl" (i'm not sure whether that's the right word for it, I had to translate it. But with such tour, you visit a couple of pubs after each other).  After about 3 hours and many Italian beers, we were on our way back and I crashed with that Segway because its wheel was stuck between two paving stones.

I was glad I only had a bruised arm, but we had a great time :D
