Title: [Web] BitcoinTalk notification bot (mentions and merits) - no app required
Post by: TryNinja on April 09, 2025, 12:22:36 AM
Creating this separated topic to spread the news!

So you don't like telegram and that's why you don't use my telegram notification bot (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5248878.0)...

You also don't like SimpleX, an open-source E2E-encrypted chat app, and that's why you don't use my simplex notification bot (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5535681)...

Well, you don't have any more excuses, because now you can see your forum mentions and merits directly on the browser!

For example: https://beta.ninjastic.space/user/id/459836/notifications

The page is updated in real time (as my bot scrapes the posts/merits) and you can toggle a sound notification by clicking the speaker button. You'll hear a ping when there is anything new, so you can keep the page open on the background. ;)

- Mentions, quotes
- Merits received
- Tracked users, tracked topics
- Ignored users

How to

1. Go to https://beta.ninjastic.space/users
2. Search your username and go to your user page.
3. Click the "Notifications" tab.
4. Bookmark the page for easy access!

https://www.talkimg.com/images/2025/04/07/x2MQ1.png

Btw, check the new beta.ninjastic.space (http://beta.ninjastic.space) - ann thread: [BETA] [NEW] beta.ninjastic.space (forum search, archive and data visualization) (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5534972.0)

Many cool features, like a very nice advanced post search that works better than the forum's (search posts that quoted a user or specific post, posts that have received at least X merits, search only quoted or unquoted content, etc...). Also see merits directly on the search page, if the post was edited, your user stats (i.e merits and posts charts) and much more!

Excellent development from you TryNinja, you're really doing lots of good works in making interaction with the forum easier for everyone and even going the extra mile bringing many options that various users can relate with.

Well done man, your works are duly appreciated, although I use the telegram notifier, I'll surely try out this web version ASAP I'm free and drop feedback.

Cool and looks great.
Another amazing development of the notification bot, you've clearly put a lot of effort into this without asking for anything in return.

However, I still prefer to use your previous Telegram app bot notification, as it was easier to install on my phone, allowing me to carry it everywhere.

This is fantastic as it solves a lot of issues and makes this easy for some of us that are constantly on a computer. Indeed you are truly a Ninja :D

I have been struggling to keep up with every notification on Telegram since I'm not active there but it has not been so most times I see hundreds of unread notifications. With this browser version, that will not be the case.

Rather than disliking those apps, some users may feel that using single app (browser that we use) feels simpler and more convenient than using multiple apps. Anyway, i'm bookmarking my notification page on my browser.

This is what I'm looking for. :D

I don't like to use apps because I think, I don't really need to get notified and skeptic in the first place. But, having the website version without I have to click random link (bot) or input my password feels safer.

Excellent work @TryNinja.

You always come up with a solution for everyone; no more excuses as to why they don't use a notification bot, but some users might still come up with not being regular desktop users and need such to work on the mobile browser.

Awesome!

Can we get a list of users with the most mention?
What's the need for that? I don't see any use for such development. It is to help individuals get personal notifications of the things they need on time in order not to miss anyone and not for a ranking list to be made for who gets the highest mention.

You have done well by introducing this additional means of receiving forum notifications and this will make everyone interested in such service have every reason not to avoid using this in case they are not more convenient with the previous notification channels, here's for the web lovers to also get notified, the forum appreciate your innovations and wish for more success.

Awesome!

Can we get a list of users with the most mention?

Don't you think this is another task you're given upon the one already involved, I hope you are aware this is not just by saying, it's more of doing and I don't know the benefits this may serve you if you got to know.

Since I’m a hardcore Telegram user who managed to sway a bunch of my friends and family to use it too, I’ll keep using your Telegram notifications. But I do know several forum members who don’t like using it, so this new thing of yours is a welcome addition.

Good job, and I’m curious to see what’s next.

This is amazing alternative to get notifications for people who keep their web browsers opened all the time.
I really like that we can toggle sound on and off, so I am bookmarking my notification page.
Since new ninjastic is still in beta I suppose link will change in future, right TryNinja?

I'm glad you bumped it, I hadn't noticed this topic.

Excellent functionality for when you are on your PC doing other things, being notified of what is happening on the forum.

Are you thinking of adding more functionality to this feature?

It’s good to have users that are thinking outside the box and trying to make this forum more accommodating for every user. Making sure there are varieties for users to make options from on that which is comfortable.

I however use the Telegram bot for my notifications and it’s doing such a fine job already. I think concerned users that hope to keep up with interesting discussions should try it. You don’t get to miss a mention and you can highlight it within telegram to read what’s been said as a guest.

Damn bro!

I have been using Loyce's website for over a year now. I thought your website notification system would be similar. Well, it's similar, but I don't even have to subscribe to or activate it to start using it. It's already active for all the forum users, and anyone can see where I was mentioned. I can even check where TryNinja got mentioned. I am sure this will be more popular. Since you have been scraping the entire forum already, it was a good idea to build such a tool. I believe you will get more and more new users this time.

One thing I want to mention, your website has always been super slow for me. No matter how fast the internet connection is. The initial loading sometimes takes one minute. But everything works fine once it's fully loaded.

I just visited my page to check out the functionality, and saying I'm impressed would be an understatement.

I'm not a Telegram user, so your new development is especially useful for me it fits my needs perfectly. By the way, the Merits section is also very informative. I’ll be sharing the news on the Russian board if you don't mind. UPD Done already  ;).

The site is really cool, I really liked it, it's good for that quick check when we're away from home and without a phone (which is difficult nowadays), but mainly because you don't need to enter any additional data, or log into Telegram... in other words, more privacy.

Yeah it's really nice to have this as an alternative however I'm already used to making use of the telegram bot as it works pretty well for me so I don't think I will be switching it to this. Plus I don't have to worry about my mobile phone battery for telegram since I'm even surprised the always on display doesn't consume much battery Like I thought it would. Read about it a couple of days back I figured it works by engaging only the required pixels on the device screen to save power.

I don't know what is wrong. But this is not the first time I am having this issue, each time I try to access his website, it appears a white screen and just loading. It ends up loading the page, but it takes a long time. Sometimes it takes a minute, and sometimes more than that. I often try using VPN and switch between internet connection to access his website and nothing helps me most of the times. So, I believe it could be from his hosting server which slow down speed for my region. I don't know, probably he knows better than us.

What is your region? Most of the time the website loads very fast here.

https://beta.ninjastic.space/users specifically has no internal calls, so the loading is blazing fast (< 200 ms). Try it and if it's taking a lot of time for you, then it's most likely an issue on your internet provider or network config.

When i touch this link with my android phone then open a page and I have seen the name "Theymos" then I click the name but later, when I clicked on right side icon, I saw the name of the legendary member, but then nothing else worked on my phone. Is this because of a problem with the phone or is there some other problem?

I am from Bangladesh. As I said, it does not happen all the time. But it happens very often. I tried to access the notification page that I bookmarked, and it loaded pretty fast this time. But generally, I was talking about the https://ninjastic.space homepage, which takes a lot of time for me to get loaded. But as I said, right now it seems pretty fast for me. Now I am planning to let you know when it becomes slow for me again.

Anyway, thanks for the web notification system. It helps a lot and I liked the simple design.

Honestly, this is a very good work, you are doing very good projects for the community. As someone who wants to transit into web development, I would love to know what language or framework you used in the development of this website? Do you also plan to share the code of the project? I really love everything about this website, there are lots of functionalities and most importantly, it's done very professionally but I'll still stick with your telegram app because it's simple and easier to use.

Hey TryNinja,

I am again with a complaint. I am unable to access the notification even though I can access the overview page. I am not sure if anyone else is having this problem. I tried using your username and mine, too, but I can access the overview page, not the notifications. It is showing 500
Internal Error

Can anyone please confirm if you have the same issue or if it's just me? I guess the Internal Error is for everyone. @TryNinja, please take a look when you have time.

It's fixed now.

Everything should be back to normal.

Turns out someone connected to my ollama service and tried to download (and use) a bunch of LLM models, so my server ran out of space. :P

Sorry for the downtime!

Hello TryNinja, I'm back with my review, I think the web version works really fine and great. I would only mention that in this web version, I couldn't see anywhere to track specific topics or boards unlike the telegram version, If the feature is available, please show me and if not, maybe you can consider including it since it is very important we personalize our experience in it.

Secondly in the search area, where you can search a thread by URL or id, searching by ID works very fine, but that of URL brings up vague response, for example, I searched with this url https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5487753.0, which is for the Buy buy buy or sell sell sell thread in speculations board, but the response I got was for a random topic in Italian board.

These are the little I could discover for now, it would be nice if you find time to give them attention so we can continue having the best user experience there. Thanks Champ

Working on that!

Could you share the URL search for that? The topic filtering seems to be working fine here: https://beta.ninjastic.space/search?topic_id=5487753&limit=20&sort_by=date_desc

Make sure you pressed enter after entering the topic id/url. It needs to be added, not just pasted on the input. (I'll probably add an autocomplete search function similar to the authors filter ;)).

Although i have been experiencing it for long now but it's becoming frequent. The last time I received merit was on the 30th of June and merit score was 527 but the notifiers says it 529, I don't know if this is necessary but I just want to ask.

Hi TryNinja congratulations on this very well done webtool. I have tried it now to test it and I must say that it is really very nice. Unfortunately I think the notification tab has a little bug, but maybe it's just a problem with my nickname

Any post that a user creates and types a word that contains "ace" the bot notifies me as if I were the recipient

For example users who I think are Spanish use the word "aceitam" and the bot notifies me of the quote ;D

Just to let you know about the bug, it's not annoying since I mostly use your telegram bot
