Title: Recurring Bitcoin Purchases Swan vs Stirke vs ?
Post by: IdMineThat on April 20, 2025, 02:13:26 AM
I'm looking at setting up some recurring Bitcoin purchases. I've been doing some research, and I'm interested in Swanbitcoin and Strike. I was wondering if anyone had any feedback or other recommendations.

Recurring availability:
- Swan offers daily, weekly, and monthly recurring purchases
- Strike offers recurring hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly purchases at no fee.
Strike gets the point here. The hourly purchases is pretty sweet.

Deposit & Purchase Fees:
Neither seem to charge a deposit fee if using ACH. I'm planning on creating a middle-man checking account, where I can setup auto deposits from my primary checking account, to provide me some protection from my main account.
- Swan charges .99% for BTC purchases
- Strike offers no fee for recurring purchases. There is .99% for the first week of purchase(s)
Strike gets the point. The 0 fee... too good to be true?

Withdrawal Fees and Minimum Withdrawal amounts:
- Swan charges no fees (beyond network fees) and auto-transfer to multiple addresses (minimum withdrawal amount of .0001 BTC)
- Strike charges no fees (beyond network fees) and auto-transfer to 1 address at specific balances (no minimum withdrawal amount)
Swan gets the point here. I like the idea of sending to multiple addresses.

I'm leaning towards Strike, just because of the 0 fees, otherwise it seems like either are capable of accomplishing my goals. If you have any other recommendations or feedback on these sites, I would appreciate your input.

Thanks!

I don't use either, but i would suggest you to check these as part of your research.
1. Check whether their withdraw fee is only network fee. One way to find out is by comparing it with TX fee recommendation on https://mempool.space/ (https://mempool.space/).
2. Check Bitcoin price/buy rate with other exchange. You can use https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/bitcoin (https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/bitcoin) as comparison.

If you plan to enable auto-withdraw with minimum amount, take note you'll have lots UTXO. It means you'll pay higher TX fee if you plan to send big amount of Bitcoin.

Thanks for the tip about the UTXO. I didn't think about that, at all. Definitely made some significant changes to my plans. I'm going to try swan out, but will likely do a monthly buy instead of hourly. I will update thread if I learn anything else useful.

I used River Financial for years never had a problem.
You can do zero-fee recurring buys. Also auto-withdraw to self-custody.

I could never get the Strike app to work for me. I have no idea why.
I don't like Swan they have too many restrictions.

I 've had an experience with STRIKE, but not for long. I liked it, I enjoyed the ease of use and the sleek UI / UX.

I have tried:
1. recurring purchases
2. withdrawals (not auto)
3. LN payments

So, in general, Strike was perfect for buying easily and fast. There is a fee in FIAT terms associated with buying / selling.

The bitcoin withdrawals are very easy as well, you have to pay the TX fee from the withdrawal amount.

Notice that in order to do auto-withdrawals it needs to be 1,000,000 sats and above. So, essentially as long as you have acquired 1,000,000 or more, then it automatically transfers the UTXO to your self-custody address.

Both Swan Bitcoin and Strike offer solid options for recurring Bitcoin purchases, but they cater to slightly different needs. Strike stands out with its hourly purchase option and zero fees for recurring purchases, making it an attractive choice for frequent buyers. However, Swan Bitcoin provides auto-transfer to multiple addresses, which could be beneficial for those managing multiple wallets.
One thing to consider is security and ease of use—Swan offers additional authentication steps like Google Authenticator, while Strike focuses on seamless transactions. Some users on Reddit have pointed out that Strike’s fee-free model raises questions about sustainability, but many still prefer it for its convenience.
If you’re looking for low fees and frequent purchases, Strike might be the better choice. If you prefer more control over withdrawals and security features, Swan could be worth considering. Either way, using a middle-man checking account for added protection is a smart move!

Another good option is Bitcoin Well for the US and Canada. I started using them last year.
They have an account option that doesn't require KYC but has a higher spread. It is much lower for verified accounts.

They have an OTC desk if you happen to be a whale.

I will check it out, thanks for the tip.

I ended up going with Swanbitcoin over strike. I read some extremely negative review regarding strike.me on trustpilot, and  I got scared off.

Swanbitcoin was reasonably easy to get setup. I did have a little trouble getting my bank account setup with them, but their online support helped me through the issues. I made my first purchase yesterday. When using ACH transfers, they do have a 10 day hold on your purchase before you can withdraw. I'm going to test out the withdrawal process and fees. If that goes smoothly, I'll setup the recurring purchase/transfers, and I will provide an update.

A lot of negative reviews about Strike from the last 2 months, especially March of this year. Did they start scamming people? I thought Mallers was trustworthy...

I heard a lot of good things about Swan and they have some really smart bitcoin maxis working for them, which I appreciate.

As for Bitcoin Well, they seem to respond to every single negative review. The vast majority of opinions are positive and they've been in business for at least 4 years, so no red flags if you ask me.

That sounds bad for Strike but they also have 5 star rating on Apple with 22,000+ reviews.
OTOH they only have 60 reviews on Trustpilot and most are negative. But on Apple they are highly rated.

Strike Reviews on Apple Store
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/strike-bitcoin/id1488724463

I'm not sure why there is such a big difference. The Apple reviews have a much bigger sample size so
I would assume they are more accurate for determining the trustworthiness of the Strike app.

I read with Trustpilot it is easy for companies to pay for fake positive reviews and have negative reviews removed.
There are tons of people on reddit saying Trustpilot is a scam. So personally I would be wary of their reviews.

I read some of the negative reviews on Apple that sounds similar to my own experience with Strike.
People seem to have problems with the KYC process. For me it said KYC was successful but then the app suddenly crashes.
After redoing it three or four more times with the same result I gave up. Never had this problem with any other bitcoin service.

I’ve heard they offer recurring buys and instant withdrawals, but not sure how their fees stack up.
