Just because something's expensive doesn't mean it's good for you. Yeah, it's equivalent to 16x 5-chip gridseed units in speed. So $3000 / 16 = $187.50 per unit, you can get the 5-chip gridseeds for way less than that now. The only improvement seems to be density.
