Title: Scratch Off Results. Posting Every Time I Buy A Scratch Off Ticket
Post by: tread93 on May 16, 2025, 01:48:20 AM
Hey guys,

I'm gonna do something fun here and create this log to show my scratch off results over time.

Now I buy them here & there trying to get some W's but im not buying them every day. Usually I take loose change of mine and use them to buy $1 scratch offs.

Today I got a commission so I bought two $5 Scratch Off games.

First game: 5/15/2025
Details: 2 $5 scratch tickets
Results: $0 made

Currently down $10 (will start posting pics of wins)

I will keep updating everytime i get one and we can start to compile stats using chat GPT ( I will be inputing all information to help me keep track). I'll be trying to mix them up and not buy just $1 but 5 10 20 eventually and you know what I'm going to win some big $$$!

If you also get some scratch offs and want to share your wins please contribute!

Then good luck though I would not expect too much. I am interested in this thread as we can use this to study the odds of scratch off tickets. It would be helpful if you stuck to a consistent ticket for a period of time like $5 ticket every day or once a week over a course of a month then we can see if there is any profit made from that before we can move on to a different ticket. Basically we need a good sample size in order to make conclusions.

Do not get yourself too lost on this though. Just have fun and do not get too depressed if you do not win.

Great initiative to share your experience! Documenting results is an excellent idea for analysing patterns over time. My advice: **Set a fixed monthly budget** for tickets (such as 1-2% of your income), and commit to it even if you earn. Remember that scratching tickets are designed to flood players in the continuous buying loop, and a big win is very rare (less than 1% according to statistics). But as long as you treat it as entertainment, not an investment, you will enjoy the experience without significant financial risk. We are waiting for your updates!!! ;)

This is cool. I love scratch cards. So is my wife. Every time we go to the mall, we don't forget to buy a scratch card just to test our luck. 2 pieces each and sometimes we try one more time if we lose, and then that's it. Win or lose.

Anyway, I think it will be much better if you can upload the photos of the cards that you scratch. Since you are going to buy just a couple or maybe fewer than 5, then I think there's no hassle in that.
Although I don't know if that will be allowed or if it's legal to upload pictures of the card. Might as well check that first.

This is not the first marathon here where user promise to share his gambling experience, however, all such topics becomes abandoned in a week or two. No offence OP, but I am sure you will drop the idea of posting results next week. Mostly because you will get lazy to go and to buy a new card, or will accidentally forget to post result here. It is always like that. I havent seen a single person with topics of such kind who would purposefully keep following his promise and routine.

Anyway, I would like to wish you good luck and a lot of it, as winning in scratch cards is super hard, even impossible to win something significant I would say. From my experience, I think I have won once the amount x5 or x10 of scratch cards price, and the rest cards were the loss ones.

In my country we have a scratch game too which is called as "scratch it" which the same with other country and every time there's a lotto outlet here near me or I guess pass by I bought at least 2$ because the price of it is just 0.36$ and one time me and my friends have a bet like in what ifs we tried and we won for with 1$ and x2 because there's a multiplier so those funds we use for our foods. Until now I didn't won again like used too so good luck the same with you OP.

Good luck to you. I hope you win some big $ later. I am sure that game need luck to win so you should not too aggressive buying the ticket and just use small money to risk.

I don't know many tickets you will buy to win a lot of money but that is interesting. I will watch your thread so we will know how many tickets you should buy.

Good luck! But let me be real with you, it kinda feels like you’re just flashing your money down the toilet.
What are the odds, really?

I used to buy tickets too before, but I stopped… never really won anything.
Maybe I’m just not lucky enough for that kind of game.

But hey, don’t get mad, I’m just saying the truth. Still, I wish you all the best, good luck, good luck, and more good luck!  :D

I haven't bought a Scratch Off Ticket in many, many years. But I have played BGaming Scratch games, there are lots of them, and there are other providers too. I haven't had any success winning anything big... it's hard to win, I usually end the game with a minus, or if I'm lucky I finish the game without losses or some small profit.

I wish you the best of luck, you will need it, a lot of it. If you decide to share your play with us, it might be nice to see some pictures... I would love to see what your tickets look like.

This is something that I think every casino should add to their stack if they have not done it already. The reason is that the game is really great as you learn instantly your result and not much time is spent gambling which is good for our health as long exposure to gambling sessions can interfere with our mood and this is scientifically proven nowadays. A lot of people would be interested in playing such game as I see well over 2000 players on crash game which is very popular because the results there are almost instant, gamblers have just to wait and they can cash out at any time.

I remember I used to buy such tickets like the OP a lot some years ago as they were really cheap back then, only 50 cent, now one costs 2.5 dollars and I find it better to deposit 10 dollars to play in IDR rather than buy 4 of such tickets, yet I know the adrenaline when you scratch them and it is one of the best feelings in the world. Good luck on your venture OP.

Great initiative, and hopefully you can go as long as you can,  :). Been during scratch off for years as well and I will say that the odds are very slim, just like any other luck base game. But it seems that you are doing this for fun and you are not that spending a lot of money so go and hopefully one day you can hit something at that least will return all the money you spend. Or better yet, maybe some bonus too and you win big and the jackpot prize. But for sure you know that this is again base on luck so you might not be expecting something unless the stars above align on you and you win.

It's hard to win on all these scratch tickets no matter how many that you are willing to buy. I could remember those days when scratch tickets was more of fun, I was with a good amount of money and I bought more than twenty tickets but at the end my hope was lost because none of them brought me any profits.

Ever since then, I have always stayed away from scratch tickets because your chance of winning is very slim. I wish OP good luck on his choice of gambling.

Nice initiative @OP.

I'm not really familiar with the scratch off lotteries, does you only need to scratch all of them and see if you're lucky or not, or there's something like skill where you have to pick before you scratch.

Anyway, I think it will be much better if you can upload the photos of the cards that you scratch. Since you are going to buy just a couple or maybe fewer than 5, then I think there's no hassle in that.

Yep, that's a good thing, documented version is always better.

Maybe it could help people to learn the pattern or something like that.

Scratch games are 100% based on luck so if you're up for the marathon you need to prepare your mind for it because you will get a lot of discouragements along the way if you don't win. It is important to have the mindset of doing it for fun and that is why you must always use amount that you can afford to loose. This is not like sports bet where you get to analyze to increase your chances of winning so do not have any high expectations to win anytime soon, it might take a day, few weeks or years, you must have patience. I wish the OP luck and looking forward to his updating us as promised but let him not put himself under any pressure, he can stop at anytime he wishes to.

It would also be nice if OP posts images of the ones he lost too to be more authentic and not just some random claims of loses without substantial evidence. You can keep us more involved by posting every single ticket you buy and update the OP with the information in a kind of tabular form, example below.

S/N            Amount wagered           Amount won           Net profit/Loss
1             $10   $0      $10

The red color shows you lost and when you win you subtract from it the sum already in red, then if you are in net gain, you use the green color for it, else you retain the red color. If you loose again, you only need to follow the procedure and add the new loss to the existing one and retain the red color

Your posting the image of your card bumps the thread and users can engage more on it. Maybe we can use your thread as a case study of net profitability potential in scratch cards.

Scratch card games is no longer popular in my country due to online casinos that have dominated the gambling business. There was a time it was a trend but I was too young then and not up to gambling age but I knew about it and even had some family members that participated in it. Because I have not tried it before, I will be curious to see the outcome of your experiment and also know if it is worth giving a try. Although, I know that such games are always very difficult to win just like lotteries.

Yes, it would be better that there would be some screenshots on making this to be that legit and not something to be verbal. We arent saying that these purchases arent real but it would be that somewhat interesting if we do see some screenshots about the card being scratched and it shows about losing up real money or winning up too. It will be something a thread that would be followed up and might other people be putting up their scratch cards as well. We do know that odds on winning up with these cards are slim, but since we are talking about being lucky then we would definitely be might be able to hit up for sometime and its best that you should be that only spending into the amount on which you can afford to lose as always.

Maybe we can see the cards that exist indeed look funny because in it many people assume that they can produce luck, of course, I think they are only high hallucinating to win a lot, even though there is, maybe thinking in a This day you can get luck, the fact is that rubbing tickets are often used as entertainment, the reason is that once buying should not spend a few dollars, it's a pleasure for them.

In my experience the same rub ticket certainly has a different value, but in my view the scrub cards are very bad, you are not aware that on average they will spend their 50% revenue specifically for buying tickets The hope is a big win, for me it's better to gamble directly with a capital of $ 10 than I have to spend $ 10 every day for a paper.

Have you been doing this for a long time? This is a very addictive form of lottery. I have a friend who puts half of his salary on scratch tickets hoping to hit a jackpot he sometimes break even when he hits three similar objects, but he eventually stopped because he cannot keep up there are more losses than winning and break evens.
I hope you can keep it to a minimal and of course wish you luck to hit the jackpot.

Maybe this is just OP's kind of game.

Some folks in my fam are into traditional lotteries, and I don't remember them winning anything from it TBH lol. But they still keep on buying. We never barred them from it because they only spend pennies/spare change. At the end of the day, to each their own. As long as you manage your spending well enough.

Best of luck, op. Honestly, I'd be interested in seeing pictures regardless whether it's a win or nah. I hope you add them.

OP, have you tried buying the3e whole pack of the cards and not a few one?
I've tried before buying 3 whole acks just to check the robability. but did not make it.

Pack 1 bought 100 cs for 2000 (20 each) local curreency = won 2770
Pack 2 , 100 cs again of different scratch card = 2000 and won 980
Pack 3 , 100 again of different scratch card again and won 1,920

then i pack up and stop playing :)

to be honest it was fun scrtching cards with my wife,

I hope someday you will hit the Jackpot

This is fun, yeah. I also had this practice in the past. Whenever I pass by a scratch-off booth or outlet, I often find myself searching for spare change in my pocket. This even became an involuntary behavior somehow. I cannot remember winning big, though. I guess the biggest I won was a dollar. A ticket only cost around 30 cents.

You made me remember those old times, OP. I and my friends used to do this when we were aimlessly loitering in the malls. Good luck to you.

2nd Game: 5/16
Details: 1 Gold Rush Multiplier $1 Scratch Off

Results $0 won

Current Tally: -11 USD

So I will admit that I have completely forgot how to post the pics on here but I took pics and will be taking pics of every scratch off ticket as well as the currency used to purchase it with just for fun! I've got pics of both and will be uploading / inserting after my talkimg crash course haha

Not off to the best start as I'd hoped for but we shall see better days!!!!

Lots of great commentary in here / ideas! I will surely be mixing it up on the tickets and see what happens, I'm excited to keep this up. Either win or lose for me its just in the fun of it. I do love the thrill of scratch offs, it's like opening up a pack of cards  https://www.talkimg.com/images/2025/05/22/UaYiBq.jpeg

I found a rather fascinating article that goes into great detail about how scratch lotteries can be manipulated. It may be strictly controlled now, but the story goes back to 2003, and Mohan Srivastava, a statistical geologist from Toronto, described in great detail all the possibilities of hacking such games. Perhaps, as the article correctly states, we rarely win such lotteries because someone hacked them beforehand.

There’s actually a movie I watched that’s super related to what we’re talking about right now.

You should check it out, it really is a great movie.

Jerry & Marge Go Large (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8323668/)

Quote
Based on the true story about long-married couple Jerry and Marge Selbee, who win the lottery and use the money to revive their small town.

It’s a classic game and honestly, I used to love it.

But ever since online gambling took over, I kinda stopped playing, even though the lottery outlet is literally just around the corner. I’m talking about those scratch cards from the lottery shop.  Anyway, thanks for sharing! I hope you win and get to cash out something decent. You put in the effort buying those tickets, so I really don’t want you to end up like most of us -- disappointed the moment we scratch and reveal… absolutely nothing.

I always purchased scratch card whenever we will do our grocery to stock with our house supplies. It’s approximately 0.4$ per tickets and my highest win is 20$ despite spending already huge on this hobby.

I still store some of my winning tickets and claim those high value near 20$. I will update picture of my winning cards later when I get back home.

It good to see someone share same interests with scratch cards.

I used to do this on my way home from work years ago. I would buy two scratch tickets for every lotto outlet I found on my way home, so I would have eight scratch tickets worth 20 pesos each, which is equivalent to $1.80.

I have no success with this form of lottery, but it will surely excite you, and it's addictive because you will know right away if you've hit the prize. It's not easy finding the right ticket, so only buy tickets with excess money and good luck.

I had a similar experience with the lottery when I was young. I was deluded that there was some fairness, and after buying a decent number of cards from one kiosk, at least one of them had to be a winner. As I grew older and wiser, I cast aside all my illusions, realizing that you can spend a lot of money to buy these cards, and this amount of money will still exceed what you can win. I am more than sure that the same will happen to OP, but experience is experience, and everyone full of illusions must "cure" themselves.

I think that scratch cards are such a light type of gambling, that those cards are even sold to children. I see them all the time at the grocery store cash desks, but in comparison to alcohol, tobacco and casino gambling, scratch cards are not hidden. They are also often offered during flights, and parents scratch them together with children. They even do that on purpose to entertain their children and make them busy.

I dont know how far OP will go with his goal, but I think results will disappoint him soon, because he isnt winning. Without motivation it is card to continue challenge. By the way, what is OP goal with scratch cards? Just fun ?

Scratch cards are a fun type of lottery. What I like about them, unlike regular lotteries, is that you don't have to wait long and tediously for the draw. It is the ability to quickly check the results that made them so popular. But as for the topic itself, I honestly don't understand the point of this action. The author buys scratch cards, opens them... and so what? Why does he do this? Most likely, the percentage of losing tickets will be expectedly high. I would understand if the author had some kind of hypothesis, but there is no such hypothesis. I can suggest making statistics on wins and losses and eventually presenting detailed results of all ticket purchases. How much money was spent in total, how much money was won. What is the percentage of losing and winning tickets. Perhaps there would be some sense in this.

Good point. The goal of an author with scratch cards is to check how random factor works? Because I dont know what else can be done with those cards. Prove that there is no strategy to test, no algorithm used, cant even check if there is something that might help to win. OP could have bought bulk of those cards, 100 for example, a check how many time he would won, and how different win amount curve is. But since he is buying random cards with random price, the conclusion of his experiment will be "random factor is approved in scratch cards".

I am not trying to be pessimistic here, but it is likely you will end up losing all the money you end up risking on buying all those scratch offs... It is like some kind of lottery but with a different format, which makes it equality harder for people to get profit off them.

Still I am sure this community will be interested on following your adventures on scratch offs and keep some expectations on whether you will make your money back or even multiply your initial investment imin a sudden way, but again, when comes to these kinds of modalities of gambling I am rather pessimistic and I hope you are aware of it and keep your expectations low.

Anyways, good luck..

In my opinion, this is a very interesting experiment! I would like to clarify one point, and what is the maximum win in this scratch lottery?

In my opinion, it makes sense to play the lottery, where there is a chance to hit the Jackpot, that is, to win a large sum of money.

What is the point of small wins? After all, they will not give you the opportunity to radically change your life.

Another thing is if you have a chance to significantly improve your lifestyle. Then you can consider this scratch lottery as "chasing a black positive swan". I really like reading books by the famous writer, philosopher and trader Nassim Taleb. In his books, Taleb writes that "chasing a black positive swan" is a very effective game strategy.

I will keep updating everytime i get one and we can start to compile stats. I'll be trying to mix them up and not buy just $1 but 5 10 20 eventually and you know what I'm going to win some big $$$!

If you also get some scratch offs and want to share your wins please contribute!

2nd Game: 5/16
Details: 1 $1 Scratch Off

Results $0 won

Current Tally: -11 USD

So I will admit that I have completely forgot how to post the pics on here but I took pics and will be taking pics of every scratch off ticket as well as the currency used to purchase it with just for fun! I've got pics of both and will be uploading / inserting after my talkimg crash course haha
Well, to help you better here are some websites (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5452693.0) you can use to post on this forum. It would be vital to see proof of your attempts if not just to verify haha. We know there is nothing that can be done after you have scratched the ticket off.
Quote
Not off to the best start as I'd hoped for but we shall see better days!!!!

Lots of great commentary in here / ideas! I will surely be mixing it up on the tickets and see what happens, I'm excited to keep this up. Either win or lose for me its just in the fun of it. I do love the thrill of scratch offs, it's like opening up a pack of cards for me.
Certainly will be following this up! Let us see how long until you finally win some prizes.
In my opinion, this is a very interesting experiment! I would like to clarify one point, and what is the maximum win in this scratch lottery?
There are different tickets. In my country it can go up to six digits value. Maybe even seven and of course the bigger the possible prize, the more expensive it is and the harder it is to win with.

Good thing about this is, (if OP is not going to lie about results), is that this will be just track record list of bad choices. And maybe others can learn from it.

Although there are simulators where you can just ran up the numbers and have examples how much you would make spending thousands of dollars and years to buying scratch cards, they will not contain all the hope and disappointment OP would have.

If i feel like reminder is in order, i might play some demo games with real amounts i would use. And while there are occasional huge wins, the total amount of lost play money is just depressing to look at.

I dont know how far OP will go with his goal, but I think results will disappoint him soon, because he isnt winning. Without motivation it is card to continue challenge. By the way, what is OP goal with scratch cards? Just fun ?

He can stop at any time he wants or continue playing. This is OP's favorite game, and he wants us to be part of that journey.
I hope he is not doing this as a show off, we will learn something here, like games like this are luck-based, and it will take time to win, or if he wins, we will know that you can win if you are patient enough to wait for your luck to happen, so we'll see if OP can manage posting his results for weeks or months.

I sometimes buy a scratch it ticket on lottery outlet 2 or 3 cards every time I buy lottery tickets.

The card that I usually bought is ruby riches the price is 50 pesos each and I won one time on the bonus with a prize of around 5k php.

I don't have luck on buying 20 php cards like go banana I never win on that cards.

The last thing a gambler shouldn't do is to keep chasing the bags than the fun, I think before you should embark on such game you should take it as for fun, forget about whatever you are expecting to win from the game just focused on the fun, maybe with time when you started incuring much winning you can post them. Though there is nothing wrong posting them, but you have to reduce your attention on how focused on making huge payout, sometimes you might disappointed by the result if things didn't happened as you expected.

That's what he says in the beginning, that he should be taking this fun. So it's obvious by now that he knows what is at stakes it, the game is base on pure luck and maybe he just wanted to test it out and see it for himself. Majority of us here have been gambling for many years that we already know that it's bad to really chase luck. I mean if we are lucky, regardless of the place that we are going to buy the ticket, or the scratch off, we are going to win. And since this is for fun to the OP, the cost is just a little that maybe he might do it in days or then stop when he feels that lady luck is not on his side.

It's very possible that someone could say they wanna do it for fun, except it's just a time try out then there's no issues, I have seen people who always talks about fun and at last it resulted to something else. Yes I came across that section which op said of fun but most times it's important to stick by the fun and not get carried away when compared what they had already lost from the beginning.

It is better to make the loss a lesson or a journey that may be a reminder that the loss does not need to happen again.
Fun is an achievement that may be difficult for some people who enter gambling, because they will only play for revenge for the loss that has occurred.

The real fact that I have seen those who think of it as having fun then turn into a new problem of addiction and cannot stop when they lose or even win,
because they do not have good control and the real purpose of having fun.

What exactly can he learn from gambling with scratch cards? Prove that luck and random factor exist in a luck-based game? He can test his patience, but that is going to cost him a lot. It is great that OP brought us something new; we rarely speak about scratch cards here, but I dont know what he will learn from all that. So far he has been loosing.

We can think of suggestion to give him. Because to buy one or two random cards, and not being constant buyer, is not a good approach towards any kind of statistics or making conclusion.

There we go! Finally got some pics in here! I am sad to report that James Polk didn't do Jacj shit for me today lol and so the bleeding only slightly continues on further for another day.

5/21/2025

Game: $1 Summer Cash scratch off ticket

Currency used: $1 Presidential Dollar

I would say that you have a point, but I'm just telling what the OP point in his thread that he is doing it for fun. So that is the most important thing that he did or for some of us who might want to try their luck on scratch-off. And he updated, but then as we have said, it's based on pure luck and with that, it didn't give him anything for that matter. But then again, it's really up to him to continue or just take a break if he suffered a losing streak. Most important thing is that he is in control of everything and not like he is addicted to this form of gambling. So all we can say is that best of luck to him and always keep us posted with the results, whether good or bad.

This is quite a nice idea I kinda love the concept of tracking your scratch-off journey since most times It's easy to just buy them and forget but actually logging the wins and losses will give you a real picture of how it's going. Bummer about those first two $5 tickets, but that's how it goes sometimes running out of luck is like a normal occurrence.
It's better to actually start with smaller denominations and work your way up. The best partis usually the winning part though. I hardly play scratch-offs though.

There are some people who doesn't cared about the series of loses they have made or incurred at their period of gambling what they think and focused on is when they would secure the bags and of course, lot of people who are gambling today are always optimistic about their winning and they must win certainly while to me these types of people often ends up in getting addicted that is why when they finally fall into addiction it's very difficult for them to have a general control of themselves.

I have not had much luck buying lottery scratch offs. Sure I have won here and there but a very large % are money back or losers. I really think they shouldn't have tickets that pay money back. You buy a ticket and are either a winner or loser.

Hopefully you don't spend too much and pull off a decent $100 winner or something. Be nice to see the experiment come out in the plus.

Well guys I wish I had an update for you here but the truth is I've been working so hard and trying focus on other things besides buying scratch offs! Its been nearly two months and I've not purchased another scratch off since but I believe Friday is going to be the lucky day! I'm going to probably throw 5-10 dollars at them on some $2 ones this time. The lucky $2 florida lottery ones always seem to be good haven't done in a while! Stay tuned!

We will wait for the next update from you @OP and we hope you will be lucky in the next Friday. Playing with scratch will not easy to win and I am sure you already know that you really need luck to win.

But I see you can used that as fun part of your busy day so you don't chase the win instead just having fun. We will wish the best for you so you can win and recover your losses before. Good luck @OP.

What’s the price of each scratch card in your country and what’s the max win?

I’m buying this scratch cards too on my local lottery outlet but I’m just spending money for a piece of paper that doesn’t convert even a win worth the ticket itself for my many times attempt.

The max win here is just 2,000$ despite the price of the cards is 0.4$ which slot games is much better with x10,000 max multiplier.

Buying lottery tickets is one of the most pointless things in gambling. After all, lotteries have the smallest chances of winning compared to other games. But the fact that these lotteries are widespread testifies to the quality work of lottery marketers. They are good psychologists and they know how to make people do pointless things. With the money that people buy lottery tickets, they can buy a little cryptocurrency, for example, bitcoin. More precisely, a little satoshi. Satoshi may decrease in value a little, but they are unlikely to depreciate completely. Money spent on instant lotteries in most cases burns out. Even roulette would bring a bigger win.
