Read the posts that are given merit there and follow it to know if it is helpful or not. That is about blockchain.com wallet. About Electrum words used before the present seed phrase, I do not know much about it. Maybe another users will have something informative to post about it. Title: Re: Restore wallet 18 words Post by: hosemary on May 20, 2025, 06:47:10 PM You probably have a old recovery phrase from blockchain.com wallet.
Seed phrases generated by blockchain.com before their upgrade in 2016 were not BIP39. Try their legacy wallet recovery tool and see if it works. https://login.blockchain.com/legacy-pages/forgot-password.html Title: Re: Restore wallet 18 words Post by: Hatchy on May 20, 2025, 06:50:00 PM Found a seed phrase on my computer, from 2015, 18 words, and a password, can not restore access, tried electrum 1.8v, not all words are in the BIP dictionary, what to do? Try making use of cake wallet to load up the seed or something like unstoppable wallet so when it syncs you can see which coins are on it. I doubt it would be bitcoin though...Title: Re: Restore wallet 18 words Post by: Charles-Tim on May 20, 2025, 06:58:55 PM Try making use of cake wallet to load up the seed or something like unstoppable wallet so when it syncs you can see which coins are on it. I doubt it would be bitcoin though... I guess he would have used Electrum or BIP39 wallet for it and it would have worked if it is a BIP39 seed phrase. If bitcoin is not there, he will still be able to import it on Electrum but the balance will be zero as long as it is a BIP39 seed phrase.Title: Re: Restore wallet 18 words Post by: goldkingcoiner on May 20, 2025, 07:03:35 PM Probably an old seed
Try this: Get the latest version of Electrum > file > new/restore-> name the wallet any random name> choose standard wallet >select I already have a seed > options > check use legacy seed Make sure the seed phrase is actually complete and there are no missing words or that no words are out of order (seed phrases are always ordered in a certain fashion, you cannot mix the order of words!) Also, do not tell anyone your seeds words. And do not enter them into any website. Use only Bitcointalk verified wallets. Title: Re: Restore wallet 18 words Post by: mcdouglasx on May 20, 2025, 07:04:08 PM There are several possibilities. It may be due to a custom BIP39 seed that does not follow a specific dictionary, a 12-word passphrase with the last words used as an extended one, or it could be a simple brainwallet where the list is processed with SHA256 to obtain the private key.

It worked, but I don't have access to this EMAIL, how can I log in ? Title: Re: Restore wallet 18 words Post by: Hatchy on May 20, 2025, 07:26:09 PM Thank you! It worked, but I don't have access to this post, how can I log in ? Okay good. But I don't get. If you have been able to access the wallet through the seedphrase, then you don't need to log in. If you don't mind explaining a bit more on what you meant by login?I guess he would have used Electrum or BIP39 wallet for it and it would have worked if it is a BIP39 seed phrase. If bitcoin is not there, he will still be able to import it on Electrum but the balance will be zero as long as it is a BIP39 seed phrase. Yea that too, but I just taught since he has no idea if it's bitcoin wallet, using other bip39 wallet that support multi coins would make it easier for him. I remember cake wallet also support Electrum seed. It worked, but I don't have access to this EMAIL, how can I log in ? Anyway, blockchain.com is not a reliable wallet due to several issues, besides being based on a web wallet, where the keys are stored on the company's server. I strongly recommend that you create a new wallet on electrum, make a backup of the wallet by writing down the 12 seed words provided on a piece of paper or a steel plate, and encrypt the wallet with a password to protect it from unauthorized access. Transfer your coins from blockchain.info(com) to your new electrum wallet and be happy. If it's a large amount of funds, you can look into cold and air-gapped storage with electrum. Alternatives to electrum: Sparrow, bitcoin core, Wasabi... Title: Re: Restore wallet 18 words Post by: nc50lc on May 21, 2025, 10:07:51 AM Thank you! But I don't get.Because it's more likely a Blockchain(dot)info account recovery mnemonic And even after using the link in his reply to retrieve the WalletID and Password, it will still ask for email confirmation to login. |
