Today is Pizza Day, and BTC made a new ATH. I wonder how he would be feeling right now for giving out 10,000 BTC for just two Pizzas. LOL, I wouldn't be able to leave with myself if I were the one, and to my greatest surprise, he says he doesn't regret it.

How would you feel if you were the one who gave out 10,000 BTC for 2 boxes of pizza?

A little context missing in your post : Lazlo was between the first hundred ( number could be inaccurate anyway ) contributors to bitcoin project and one of the few active developers. SO on one hand I guess he owned way more than those 10000 and also he made the history  proving the world Bitcoin could be used as a means of payment and wasn't only a computers's geeks experiment for its own sake.


So now ask yourself : how'd you feel being among the first discovering bitcoin. Well, I would feel quite comfortable tbh.

 

I would just live on knowing I used BTC properly - I did something with it, as an alternative doing it with fiat.

@OP, hopenotlate is right in what he said, if Lazlo said he doesn't regret spending 10,000 BTC for 2 pizza, what do you have to fight against it? His involvement into Bitcoin is quite early and you can assume that he doesn't just have that amount of Bitcoin that was spent on pizza, he is the reason why there's Bitcoin pizza day, which means his contribution is greatly recognized by the Bitcoin community.

Go back to the early posts; you will find more than one "Laszlo" who exchanged his bitcoins and was happy. I think there is no point in talking about how these people feel now; we all live in our own time, by the standards that exist in it. Thoughts that someone could now have some island and be rich may come to the minds of many early investors, but if we are talking about "here and now," then we act as the time requires. I think in the future there will be the same scoffers who will consider our actions today stupid. However, all this makes a good story, in the broad sense of the word.

I’m the man that always wants to move forward on my previous mistakes. I will feel a bit regretful but that’s it because I can’t change the future.

We don’t need to discuss things that will make as sad rather we should view it as a first successful transaction using Bitcoin as payment to goods.

Lazlo is our hero for taking the first step on using Bitcoin as payment despite it cost him a lot of Bitcoin at that time.

I would do exactly the same thing if I was in his shoes without any regrets, man is a legend and generations to come will always talk about him, there wouldn't be any pizza day without him! and you should know that he had more than $10,000 worth of Bitcoin at that time and he is still Rich and famous, and I'm sure he is living a fulfilled life knowing that he contributed greatly to the Bitcoin community and making Bitcoin grow. Ordinary people like us in the Bitcoin space might be forgotten in future but Laszlo will never be forgotten as long as Bitcoin still exists.

Likely accept his expression as simple as that and if you understand the the yoke (setback) Laszlo Hanyecz has broken at the effect of his paying 10K bitcoin for 2 pizza's as the case maybe, he was the first enthusiast that executed the ultimate use of bitcoin for alternative means of payment, you'll appreciate him for the libration of bitcoin which had now earned global and a massive trading volume even among the top notch of global assets today, you'll celebrate him for that instead of the mockery.
And if we keep to live by such criticism, then we should not have to sell our coins anymore not until bitcoin has reached it maximum volume where it can't increase again and i bet that's not going to happen now and not yet neither would it happen soon or even.

So we just have to keep holding seeing Aths after Aths like we're just holding an illusionary values. Huh? Is that what is expected? I bet not. So even if we've to sell out bitcoin today probably when it was $10 or below to this day we've seen an Ath of $111,000, there's sure that the peak could just be the begining because more Aths is expected to come not just in the close time of this current bull run event but in most potential places as the future goes.
However, he had set a historical experience for us which is the bottom (first approach) where paying for goods and services with bitcoin started.

Laszlo Hanyecz was after history making with those 10000btc that he used to exchange for 2 pizzas. This is why we are celebrating him now and that was what he wanted. He has more than enough Bitcoin which he mined back days so giving out 10000btc for two pizza is worth buying him history and put his name in the world Guinness/Bitcoin book of record. Someone paid heavily just to get their transaction mined in the last block before the new halving block popped up last year.

If I was the one who bought 2 pizzas for 10,000 BTC, I would not regret it, seeing the way I am being celebrated every year and the impact that single transaction, done many years ago, has had on the Bitcoin community. That single transaction is an inspiration to me and many other Bitcoiners who are amazed by such a moment in history.

Today, we have a double celebration. Congraìtulations to all those whose investment goal was to hit 110k and take profits. It will be very tricky for those who have such an investment goal to take profits at 110k when Bitcoin has the prospect of going beyond the current price of 111k. The rule for every investor should be to stick to their investment plan in order to avoid missing out.

I agree that if I have had a lot of bitcoin, more than 10k bitcoins, I would have not feel regret by my spending of 10k bitcoins for 2 pizzas years ago. Especially if I did reserved my remaining bitcoins for years later, I would not consider that trade as my bad decision at all.

Assume I had 1 bitcoin in 2018 and spent 0.1 bitcoin for anything in that year but I managed to hold remaining 0.9 bitcoin till 2025, I would feel good enough without any regret, to be honest.

The value of Bitcoin was much lower in the past where no one gave Bitcoin much importance, Laszlo Hanyecz was able to buy only two pizzas with 10,000 Bitcoins. At that time, the price of 10,000 Bitcoins was equivalent to only $41, and today this Bitcoin is worth more than $1.1 billion, which is amazing. Although this was not so surprising at that time, since Bitcoin came to the market, its price has continuously increased and people have been attracted to it. When the price of Bitcoin has continuously increased in the market, we have understood its value, and we can review what level this Bitcoin will go to in the future. I can't really say how I'm going to feel if I was the person but I know that the person who gave out that 10, 000 BTC for 2 boxes of pizza will be regretting by now knowing the current price of Bitcoin but on a second thought, do you really think the person had just 10, 000 Bitcoin? If he gave out all that he had in his portfolio by now he would be wishing he never bought that pizza.

As well as a software engineer and he basically had a lot of Bitcoin and is believed to still have it

Even if he didn't buy pizzas with the bitcoins, he would still have spent those bitcoins before we got to the current price. Bitcoin was literally worth less then. Certainly, apart from Laszlo, there were other early Bitcoiners who had that much Bitcoin but spent theirs as well. Laszlo's yearly recognition is still a good compensation for spending his Bitcoin.

We all won't hold our bitcoins forever, one day we will sell them off, and Bitcoin's price will keep surging on. Are we going to live in regret forever after spending our bitcoins? Like I said before, if I were Laszlo, I would have no regrets. I would rather be proud of being one of the early men who adopted Bitcoin and set the pace for others to follow.

And until Laszlo clearly state his feelings about this criticism is then we can take it for a discussion but since then he made the exchange of bitcoin for pizza and hasn't shown an atom of his regrets, then it's assumed that such claim as the Op is a false and anyone involved about Laszlo's state of mind since after the transaction is just worrying him/her self.
Or probably let's say he sold out not to say at lost but on his short term investment plan which is likely part of the investment plans most of us do still have today.
No just need for those forces because we would sell our own somedays while bitcoin price keep uptrend and looking at our time of sales with the present maybe somewhere in 30 years time would seem like we sold at lost because, the price in the 16 years ahead would seem to silent the value of the $111,000 We are being too excited about today.

Of course the Bitcoin community widely recognizes his contribution because his transaction was historic even to my knowledge this active developer was the first to use Bitcoin commercially. Besides he was a miner, so the value of those bitcoins probably wasn't very high for him. 15 years after his pizza purchase, Bitcoin has already surpassed Amazon in terms of market capitalization, and Bitcoin has currently touched $111k so now it is proven that his 2  pizza is currently worth billions of dollars.

If I were in his place I would think every day about how to become rich now because why regret what has passed. Rather I should work hard from now on make myself strong and achieve success by earn BTC.

Pizza day is worth remembering, at least its a proven fact that Bitcoin actually started on a good note at that time, even used  to buy stuff worth 10,000 btc. It is nice to remember this day on the history of Bitcoin especially if we considered the current price of Bitcoin which has even created a new All Time High today, what a coincidence!

Happy Pizza Day to the Bitcoiners out there.  Any excuse to celebrate with food is a good excuse.  Usually I would be joining in on the festivities but I am craving a burger tonight.  The heart wants what the heart wants, or in this case, the stomach.  Lazlo will forever remain a legend for his purchase.  A name he etched himself into the history books with his bravery and hunger (literally).  May we all be so lucky as to be remembered as pioneers of something so meaningful to the world.

He will not regret it because at that time the price of bitcoin was not like now and for 10k bitcoin for Pizza (at that time) was normal so why would he regret it especially since we know he was at the beginning so he must still have a lot of bitcoin in his portfolio. It's the same with some people who have said they exchanged bitcoins into game vouchers and other things because it was worth it at the time.

If done now then maybe the conditions are different and will regret it but that is the past where bitcoin is not like now so it is very natural if he does not regret it too much.

I think we are too fixated on a value when then and now it is different so even if you regret it it will not make the situation change so in this case I think he just enjoyed what he did without the need to look back with regret.

I wish happy pizza days for bitcoins. Stay loyal to your bitcoins, this is important, it reminds us of this every year. Also, it is a nice coincidence that today is a new bitcoin ATH. 10,000 btc is a crazy number and will be celebrated for years and today. I made myself a pizza today and ate it, I couldn't spend bitcoin for pizza and these days bitcoin continues to rise.

There is no doubt that Lazlo is kicking himself, but honestly he's stupid to be thinking that way. He's lkye5alky bitcoin famous the guy is going to be set for life. The funny thing to me about the Laszlo situation is that people who don’t own any Bitcoin will make fun of him for trading BTC for pizza, but I’m betting not a single one of them to this day would accept Bitcoin to order pizza for a stranger online. So in the end, the real losers are the people who don’t own Bitcoin and I promise you Laszlo doesn’t fall in that club.

Laszlo did something ground breaking at the time which at that time was worth
the BTC both in monetary terms and in Bitcoins journey. That first transaction
with Bitcoin was for our benefit too. It is part of Bitcoins history now and contributed

Yes you are very correct Laszlo made history with what he did and as long as bitcoin keeps existing people will always remember him and for me I think this is a big success for him, the world celebrate his action every year.
Some people says Laszlo is regretting his action anywhere he is but that's not true he was interviewed and I watched the interview on YouTube he said his not regretting his action and I believe him because he has made a name that can never die as long as Bitcoin continues to exist and I'm sure that was not only the Bitcoin he was holding he had more Bitcoin and he may still be holding Bitcoin till date, so what exactly will he be regretting, since he has said his not regretting I think we should leave it that way.
Bitcoin is now one of best investment or assets right now in the world and I'm very sure Laszlo is so proud being the first person to make a transaction with it.

Is there even need to cry out loud of something you did in the past and the whole world is being celebrating you for that? Of course not. Infact, the bitcoin pizza day's is basically honoured for Laszlo so if you ask him if he ever regretted his action, I guess he'll say no because if he never took the path he would not had been this globally recognized as there'd not had been such a pizza day for the bitcoin community. Therefore, the seasonal pizza day's celebrations basically recognizes Laszlo as the celebrant which is been a credit to him instead of regretting it.

He left his impact on the history of BTC and has a whole day to be remembered of what he did - it's a feat of in itself, not to mention that he did to use BTC as it is, not as a stunt or fame (as many do these days).

It is true that people cannot think of anything more than they need, because Laszlo Haniej bought two pizzas with 10,000 bitcoins. But if he could have imagined the present, he would have definitely stopped himself from doing that. People always think about their profit and that time he thought that he did everything for his profit only.

He used it as a currency to pay for what he wants at that time like most of us did in the early stage of Bitcoin.
No one knows that the price of Bitcoin would rise this much, he didn't regret it cause he moved on from it.
I also think that most of those who are active in crypto at that time has already sold their coins when the price increase. drastically from the previous years.

The moment is gone. The person in question bought something with BTC properly. And that's it - no big bang for him, he did what he wanted, how he wanted, with what he wanted - and he is forever in BTC's history now.

Let us forget about Laszlo Hanyecz that bought 2 pizza for 10K BTC and talk about Papa John who sold the pizza to him because if Papa John is still alive and actually HODL the bitcoins, then he should be tagged along with laszlo as the heros of bitcoin because it would be that Laszlo made bitcoin become popular while Papa John will be so wealthy by now but i doubt if Papa John is still alive because at that time he was already old and this is 15 years after.

Now coming to your question, if i was the one that use 10k BTC to buy 2 pizza then and i now saw how progressive the price have been, i will only regret it if am poor currently but if i'm still rich, there's nothing to regret. Another thing that will make me not to regret much is that i will be happy that am celebrated yearly by bitcoiners because that feeling alone is heavenly.
