Title: Account Recovery Assistance from Forum Hack
Post by: CryptoCommerce on June 29, 2025, 03:59:23 PM
Hello everyone,

It's good to be back - sort of, I am dealing with a bit of am issue.|

My OG LEGENDARY status account is still exists, and appears to be left untouched for a decade after the password was used by the attackers to do an account take over. It has been 10 years since the account has been accessed, and I created the account in 2010 or 2011. Anyone from that timeframe should also remember who I am which I will reveal in DM.

I was using an AIM email address at the time which no longer exists, but I remember the detail to it.

I sent an email to the recovery contact as well as theynos the admin. It has been over a decade that I was locked out but I would love to engage with the old gang again.

'I can accommodate any request to confirm validation that I say who I am.

Please assist and send me a DM.

TY!

Regards,

What about sign a message from your old address?

If it was a decade and you don't have access to your old wallet that you posted here before I don't think there's a way to recover your wallet if you're just providing information like email since you don't have access to your email anymore the only way to recover your wallet is to make a sign message.

Check the proper way to recover your account here below

It shouldn't be an issue mentioning the account in the OP so that we can check and see if it was banned or not. Otherwise, you can still recover your account but following the new account recovery procedure which is in the link shared by @BitMaxz

The most important requirements are
- A signature from a staked Bitcoin address if you had one (ideal, but it's not a must if you don't have it)
- Sending the request to them from the email address you used to register the account, but since said that AIM Email service is now defunct, you can explain to them

I think they will help you. Good luck.

Thank you frens, however I already reached out to the e-mail address provided in the recovery link to no avail - same with reaching out to theynos.

For clarification I am trying to restore my BitcoinTalk account - nothing more

I was a service provider to the community from 2010 - 2012 and i have the ability to prove it

It is definitely a good update that you have received an email from the recovery team. Yes, if you are the legitimate owner, then of course you have enough evidence to recover your account. However, the most acceptable proof would be when you can sign the message with your Bitcoin address.

If you don't know how to sign a message, then you can check this topic to know the full process - How to sign a message?! (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=990345.0)

Are you sure you are not the Bitcoin Pizza guy (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=143)?  ;D ;D
Because it appears his account has been recently successfully recovered. This is after a very long time without activity (2014). Anyway, in case you are not him, this just shows that there's hope that your account can be recovered even after a decade. You just have to be patient a bit until the team reaches up to you. It can take a week or so.

If you were active in the forum for two years and stopped posting in 2012, why do you want to recover the account? There is no reason why you cannot create a new account (such as the CryptoCommerce account you created for this thread) if the intention was to simply post. Can you elaborate if you want to recover the account for a specific reason?

Have you received any response from the team that recovers accounts yet?
It's almost 2 weeks now and if they haven't written back to you then there is a high chance you may not be helped to recover it. Maybe the need those crucial details such as a signed message from your old Bitcoin address post in this forum from that account to be sure that it's really you./

If an admin who can help is reading this please DM me :)

>>snip<<
Do you have any of those old addresses posted in this in forum back then or did you stake any of them?

Admin may not respond to your private message, you just have to write to the email address provided with all the details that try to show that you are the one trying to recover your account.

The two most important elements of recovering your account are the original email and the bitcoin address signature. But it seems you lost the mail, and it's good to see you have access to the Bitcoin address that was posted on the forum. But the post with the address should not be edited. You can apply to recover your account. Along with the signed message from your address, you can share more details about your account that aren't public.

If the recovery team thinks you are legit, then they might move further. You have to convince them with the solid proof. Sending a personal message won't be very helpful for recovering your account. Theymos gets a lot of messages daily, and he doesn't have much time to read each and every message.

I really appreciate these tips - they just sparked an idea where I can likely prove ownership of the email address + sign a message - it will be a roundabout way and a shot in the dark but wish me luck !

A couple of old era accounts are up for recovery and if one of them is yours then that's good news, and it will be awesome to see you back in your old account. It may take some days, but you may be in for some pleasant ending. Good luck nonetheless.

The account recovery team takes a loooong time to respond to messages and actually do anything.

It is not unheard of for requests being in queue for months before they are finally processed.

So I guess you just have to wait for a reply.

Account recovery usually takes time, sometimes a quite long time.

Forum account: security, privacy, and recovery. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5261696.0) It's a good topic I recommend for OP to recover his account firstly, then understanding more about security and improve his practice in order to avoid account hacks in future.

Prevention against hacks is always better than doing any account recovery and cure.

Beyond forum account, there are more recommendations on security and privacy practice.

It’s always a patience game here, no one would want to aid anyone get access to an account that isn’t theres. Not saying you don’t own this account to wish, we all don’t know nothing about and I don’t see much reason in why you prefer mentioning the account only in the PM. I’m not from the era but, perhaps you mention what account it was, those from the era might see and recall a thing or two. In the event that it’s not yours and perhaps the real owner does exist on the forum with a different user still, they might speak up and not after.

However, if it’s yours, reconnecting with your formal ID wouldn’t be such a bad thing and like you said, you have a historical value to uphold from it. It’s a good but then, be patient with the forum staff that could sort this out, a decade of absence is such a long time.

It is a long time of absence but if it is a true owner and can provide evidence to prove the ownership, the recovery process won't be too hard. In addition, a very long time of absence is not a reason for a failed account recovery.

Lately, a legend laszlo recovered his account in this forum after a long time of disappearance.
Is laszlo back? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5549980.0)

Still no luck - I wasnt able to locate the old wallet and AIM is long done and took my email with it. :(

I can 100% prove i am the acct owner i used my IRL name for everything, i can provide basically everything including a webcam of me holding an ID and am.willing to submit to an interrogation by recovery team

if anyone who reads this remembers BitcoinExchange and remembers the cool convos from AIM and Skype and participated in the linked thread before the hack please post here and feel free to interrogate me with any question from that era there are details only the LEGENDS will know.
