Title: SOPA and NMC prices
Post by: Bigpiggy01 on December 23, 2011, 04:32:04 PM
What kind of NMC price levels do you exalted gentlemen expect to see if sopa passes?

In case some of you don't happen to know the acronym http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act) should explain it pretty clearly  :(

In case some of you find this scary reading and want to make sure you have nothing to do with peeps who support this  should be an interesting read. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=55491.0[/url)

Hi!

Also, there is something else to push the Namecoin price up, called: Protect IP Act (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PROTECT_IP_Act).

I already have 1000 Namecoins by now and I'm creating the web interfaces (only mock-ups) to register domains easily with it.

Every Bitcoin pool should activate Merged Mining ASAP! Because Namecoin is VERY important! It means truly freedom on the net.

Every day the Establishment becomes more irrelevant.

Abx!
Thiago

Thiago, when you have a chance can you address this post I made regarding Namecoin https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=50664.msg661063#msg661063

What is it about the Namecoin services that I might be missing that may outweigh what I am seeing the negatives of it.

Well I am confident we will see a return to the price of about $1 per NMC sometime next year. Looking at the chart you can see when it peaked in price about the same time as the mass bitcoin price rise.

What would help the most if mtgox and or tradehill opened usd/nmc trading. That would help increase the volume.

while sopa brings a lot of attention to namecoin, i don't think there will be much corrolation to the passing of the bill.

Above this as influence in order of expected size of impact:
1)Coverage in the generic news
2)mentioning .bit
3)mention on slashdot again
4)sites beginning to get banned like the domain seisures

The problem with nmc is ease of use;
the lack of something you can install on windows that watches for .bit requests (could even help with even .eepsite .onion addresses) and (for example) updates windows/system/hosts in a completely easy and light way

If a few more hosting providers also supported it for example nearly freespeech that would help a lot. The real deal clincher would be if google DNS can be persuaded to use it.

Better might be to head toward content-based networking instead of connection or endpoints based networking.

Assume things like freenet, i2p, tor, GNUnet, tahoe-LAFS and so on, and address "the reader, wherever located" instead of being location (geographic or net-toplogical) oriented.

Send the data out to the cloud signed with your private key and the recipient's public key, possibly replicating it on all those networks I mentioned plus others, and let them go find it when they like via whichever network they like, quite possibly leaving you entirely in the dark as to what network they actually did happen to retrieve it via on any particular occasion or even habitually.

Put public keys, .i2p addresses, .onion addresses, bitcoin addresses, Open Transactions nyms, various identities such as used by various freenet plugins and so on all into namecoin, and replicate namecoin blocks onto all those networks and more.
