Because @hilariousandco said you can put a twitter link to your forum profile doesn't mean you should create this thread below Let's Connect on Twitter and Share Bitcoin Ideas (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5554014.msg65677218#msg65677218) additionally it's even on the wrong board. What @hilariousandco meant is that you can put your twitter link on the provided area for additional handles; https://www.talkimg.com/images/2025/08/10/USRUiv.jpeg And not to create a thread asking for people to connect with you on X (twitter) However, some of use also like to keep identity sacred and connecting X account might reveal true ID, the forum is pseudonymous. Privacy matters to some. Title: Re: Can I put a link to my Twitter account? It is unwise to do that. For many people in CT, X accounts are mainly used for crypto-related news, bounties, campaigns, giveaways, and other specific niches, or simply as dump accounts. I rarely see people use them for personal matters, usually, that is more common among public officials or similar individuals who use their real names on the platform.Title: Re: Can I put a link to my Twitter account? Post by: logfiles on August 10, 2025, 10:32:35 PM Some members here were born after these services have launched or their closure. Well, here is your chance to be our hero :)Is there a way to update these things @admin? The topic has been talked about several times but nothing has so far been done for some few reasons that (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5477924.msg63333209#msg63333209) Cyrus pointed out. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like your proposal is going to be part of the many social network proposals that have been made in the past and have been totally ignored. 1. Add a Telegram contact method. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=977465.0) 2. Can the mod add GetGems Messenger to Forum Profile Information? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1002706) 3. Profile information (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2836878) 4. The profile page should be changed. No one uses ICQ, AIM, MSN or YIM.] (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5114201) 5. Adding Telegram on the profile page (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5133388) 6. Suggestion to change the obsolete social media from account info (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5218335) 7. Why do we still have options for MSN, YIM etc? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5347996) This was the last topic ---> [proposal] Update Profile > Social Networks ICQ/AIM/MSN/YIM (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5477924). Maybe you can bump it to remind the admins yet again. There was some glimmer of hope in that thread though I've read through the topics helpfully posted by logfiles (thanks, man), and I've looked at the relevant SMF code, and I think I can put together a patch to improve the usefulness of those old fields. It's a little tricky because those fields have been baked into SMF's code without much forward-thinking or extensibility in mind, so I don't think it's wise to keep adding new fields using the current approach (both from a programming point-of-view and in terms of visual clutter). Even though most of those fields now refer to defunct services, I also don't think it's wise to remove any of them (with Bitcointalk, especially when messing with existing functionality, my inclination is to have a conservator/preservation mindset and to steer well-clear of destructive updates). What about something like this: Yep. That's just about the best way to approach it, IMO.- The number of fields, platform names and user input remains the same. This is how existing information is preserved. - In the Forum Profile Information page a dropdown menu is added next to the defaults to switch with some new ones (Discord, Telegram, etc). This also keeps the same number of contact fields. - Updating the contact fields should also update the small logo under the user's avatar, displayed in posts. I think the "Skype" field should probably be moved upwards to sit with the other fields, like this: https://talkimg.com/images/2024/02/13/vKfVG.png Then, I think those 5 field labels could be converted into dropdowns, like this: https://talkimg.com/images/2024/02/13/vKypD.png That way, everyone's existing field values would remain intact, but people would be free to switch them out for more modern alternatives (and whenever those get out-of-date, adding new choices would be really simple). There's some extra per-choice stuff to keep track of in the background (an icon, a regex to limit what can be entered, a template to transform what was entered into a link, etc.) and some database adjustments would be needed (I think ~5 new columns on the members table, and 1 new table to catalog the available choices would probably do it). I'll see what I can come up with in my test environment... (If anyone has any notes/ideas about this, feel free to either leave them here or PM me about it.) Title: Re: Can I put a link to my Twitter account? Post by: CryptSafe on August 12, 2025, 08:53:32 PM You can put your X link on your account or maybe your signature space if you want to, but it will be wise if you do not put your personal X account link there. However, if it is a business account to promote your business, you can, but you should not put a scammer link there, so that people do not fall victim to a scam or a phishing link, which could steal information of visitors upon clicking it.

It will be nice if you tell Op the consequences of putting scam links in his profile incase they will want to do so.Op, if you promote scam with your signature or profile, you will be red tagged and that will be the end of your account here. I am supporting this proposal and maybe we need to bump it up and remind theymos about that. There was some glimmer of hope in that thread though PowerGlove has done amazing job with his bug fixes so far, and I am sure he is going to do a great job with profile link updates. I am not the one who would add links to all my social media accounts, but adding telegram or twitter link can be useful. Title: Re: Can I put a link to my Twitter account? Why do you think that OP may have intentions to promote scams? From his posts it doesn't looks like he potentially can do it. But yeah, if he will do it, he will get same consequences like he would do in any other place of forum. I assume that every person who promotes scams understand that may end not good for them.Op, if you promote scam with your signature or profile, you will be red tagged and that will be the end of your account here. Maybe he is being kind to inform OP before hand to be careful which I believe OP already knows the consequences involved in such an act. I think if OP has such intentions he wuld not have bothered asking such a question because he would have seen some others profile and do the same without bothering to ask any question, since it is a newbie account, we never can tell what OP is up till there is a complaint from any member of a bad experience from such. Title: Re: Can I put a link to my Twitter account? Post by: JollyGood on August 21, 2025, 09:17:29 AM You asked a question, received several replies and you have not posted to acknowledge those that took the time to answer your question. Not only that, you have made just one post in the subsequent 11 days and posted in a different thread.
As for you putting a link to your Twitter account, it remains elusive even though you have received replies explaining how to achieve your goal. Your post history (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3719311;sa=showPosts) is not impressive. At first glance, you have several hallmarks of an alt-account or farmed account but keeping that aside, as you hardly post in the forum what good would adding your Twitter profile do? Can I put a link to my Twitter account? Title: Re: Can I put a link to my Twitter account? Post by: robelneo on August 22, 2025, 01:21:26 PM Can I put a link to my Twitter account? Are you going to promote your post on X.com since you are a newbie? What you put in your signature is not clickable, but only text. If you have a hard-to-remember X.com username, people will have to copy and paste it. Level up to a copper account to effectively promote your X.com account here. Next time, consider adding a bit more information so we can provide more detailed answers. |
