Title: New to Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency – Need Guidance Post by: Emikoyumi on August 21, 2025, 08:09:58 AM I am completely new to this site. I have recently started learning about cryptocurrency. There are still many things I don’t know, you can say I only know a little. In these few days I have seen that people are very curious about Bitcoin. Everyone wants to know about it.
As far as I have learned, it is not controlled by any government or person. It is a decentralized coin. People call it digital gold. It allows people to directly transact with each other. Now I have some questions which I cannot fully understand: - Why is Bitcoin called digital gold? - Does Bitcoin automatically go up and down or is it managed by any company or person? - If I buy Bitcoin, will it be more profitable to hold it for a long time or for a short time? - As a beginner, what should I do here? Should I slowly start learning from here or should I try to invest along with learning? I hope the seniors here will try to help me. Thank you. BTC and Gold has a lot in common, like the scarcity, both have limited supply, although gold's supply can be unlimited but that's depends on the new reservoirs, both are used to store for value, people have lot of money they want to store it in an asset where they don't lose the value due to inflation so both are best hedge against inflation, both are mined but with different method, although there are some small differences in them too like gold is hard to transport and carry while you can caryy and transport trillions of worth of gold's money in the form of BTC. - Does Bitcoin automatically go up and down or is it managed No it depends on the demand and supply and as you said it is decentralized, then why you asked this question. by any company or person? - If I buy Bitcoin, will it be more profitable to hold it for a long For a long time it will be more profitable. time or for a short time? - As a beginner, what should I do here? There's no need to rush, it's definitely better a good slow start to avoid mistakes that could lead to your account being banned. As per learning first or investing straight way, according to my personal experience I enjoyed more investing little money I could afford to lose and making mistakes while learning. Otherwise learning only in theory can be too boring. But that's up to you... As for it being called digital gold, that is just what a lot of people like to call it, because it is highly sought-after like gold, but it is intangible, hence digital gold.
Read up on some of the links that have been shared, you will learn all this basic stuffs in a heartbeat. If you are going to buy bitcoin, i think the first thing you should be concerned about is the wallet you'd use to store it, and for that you should choose open source wallets that are non-custodial, you should also learn the difference between hot and cold wallets. Bitcoin is called digital gold because it has characteristics similar to gold. This is because its supply is limited (only 21 million coins will be available), making it similar in scarcity to gold. Bitcoin can also be used as a store of value, similar to gold which is often used as a safe-haven. Bitcoin is also completely untouched by the government's monetary policy of "inflation", this character is similar to gold which cannot be affected by monetary policy. Bitcoin runs on its own "decentralized" without any party being able to control it, gold is also like that, it cannot be controlled by a single entity.- Does Bitcoin automatically go up and down or is it managed You've already answered it here.by any company or person? Bitcoin is for everyone in investment and trading but with investment, it's more easily to get profit if you can do simply things as follows: manage your finance to have investment capital that you afford to lose, use that investment capital for bitcoin accumulation, hold your bitcoin a long time, you will get profit. With trading, like investment, it is for everyone too, but it's super difficult to get profit and most traders get losses. If you don't believe you belong to minority of traders, don't think you can trade profitable. If you think of risk of losing money with trading, just don't trade. Title: Re: New to Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency – Need Guidance Post by: Ronsbit on August 21, 2025, 03:41:49 PM Welcome to the crypto world. At first, one thing you should know is that the crypto space is very volatile and also risky, and for these reasons, we are told to only invest with funds we can afford to lose. As a crypto enthusiast, you should know this slogan: "not your keys, not your coin." This says more about the way we entrust our assets to a third-party crypto exchange. One thing you should understand is that any coin not under your custody is not your own. What I mean is this: if you do not hold the keys to the wallet that holds your assets, you are not the owner of that asset, and that is what the CEXs are. They hold your assets and make you fulfill their requirements before you get access to your assets, which is not safe, and if anything happens to that CEX, your funds are all gone. So you have to be very careful and save your assets under your custody by using a wallet in which only you can easily access your assets whenever you want to.

Therefore, as a beginner, you should learn the basics of crypto, and various related topics can be found here. Regarding your last question, ideally, you should learn first before investing, so you are educated on many things, such as the importance of learning various things about crypto (technical and non-technical), learning about finance, and various other things. However, I have learned about some people who initially invest before learning about crypto, or specifically Bitcoin. And I think that is okay, because it can motivate someone to learn more about what they are investing in, followed by learning about things directly or indirectly related to it. So, I think it is also good to invest while learning, as it might be a trigger for you.- As a beginner, what should I do here? It’s one way of making you more motivated and excited of what’s in store for you with bitcoin, so you will gain more passion and interest to learn more about bitcoin, within the forum, and even outside the forum.
My advice is, just don’t get too serious with it. Invest not mainly to make money, but to gain experience, that’s your first goal. Eventually, when you start improving and you are seeing growth with your bitcoin knowledge and involvement, that’s the time you will start maximizing investing in bitcoin, but still with caution and patience which are definitely a must. Title: Re: New to Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency – Need Guidance Post by: SquirrelJulietGarden on August 22, 2025, 04:16:04 PM No, Bitcoin was called digital gold because it changed the narrative of money, asset, and investment through its decentralization, mining, and limited supply (it's consensus at large). This opens the doors to precious opportunities for everyone regardless of race, educational background, and more. It's too technical and too complex while Bitcoin is called as digital gold simply because of its existence. It's digital existence while gold has physical existence. I believe that their different existence modes are main reasons of the name calling for Bitcoin as Digital Gold.Other technical things like decentralization, mining (Proof of Work), limited supply are not reasons for this "Digital Gold" name calling on Bitcoin. Those factors have good contributions for making up Bitcoin value, but not is "Digital Gold" famous calling around. Between gold and Bitcoin, I think this book has many good insightful comparisons. Bitcoin is Bitcoin, and digital gold is digital gold. They are two different things. Quote - Does Bitcoin automatically go up and down or is it managed by any company or person? It is not managed by anyone. Bitcoin is decentralized; no one controls Bitcoin. As for the price of Bitcoin, it is influenced by buyers and sellers. If there is higher demand, the price goes up, and if there are more sellers, the price will go down. Quote - If I buy Bitcoin, will it be more profitable to hold it for a long time or for a short time? Long-term investments are more advisable to secure profits and minimize short-term risks. This is because, in the short term, Bitcoin prices tend to be volatile.. and with a long-term strategy, you don’t need to monitor the charts every day. Quote - As a beginner, what should I do here? Title: Re: New to Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency – Need Guidance Post by: StreetWall Token on August 23, 2025, 04:39:49 AM Hi there, welcome to the forum! It’s great that you’ve started learning about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. I’ll try to answer your questions as simply as possible:
Why is Bitcoin called “digital gold”? Bitcoin is limited to 21 million coins, which makes it scarce, just like gold. People also see it as a store of value over the long term, meaning they believe holding Bitcoin can help protect their wealth against inflation or currency devaluation. Does Bitcoin go up and down automatically, or is it controlled? Bitcoin is not controlled by any company, government, or person. Its price moves based on supply and demand. When more people want to buy than sell, the price goes up. When more want to sell than buy, it goes down. It’s completely open and driven by the market. Should you hold Bitcoin for a short time or long term? Long-term (“HODL”): Many people buy Bitcoin and hold it for years, believing its value will increase as adoption grows. Short-term trading: Some try to profit from small price movements, but this is risky and requires experience. As a beginner, it’s usually safer to learn first before making big investments. What should you do as a beginner? Start by learning as much as possible: blockchain basics, how Bitcoin works, and how wallets work. Explore this forum, ask questions, and read discussions. If you decide to invest, start small — only invest what you can afford to lose. Focus on security: use a trusted wallet, enable 2FA, and never share your private keys or seed phrase. Final tip: Don’t rush. Knowledge first, investment second. The more you understand, the safer and smarter your decisions will be. It has become customary to refer to bitcoin as digital gold, since it is also scarce and can be transferred anywhere. Nobody has control over its price. It fluctuates on basis of number of people who wish to buy or sell it. Best beginner can do is to keep Bitcoin over long period of time as opposed to trying to buy and sell it as soon as possible as this can be quite hazardous. Best you can do right now is to keep learning about Bitcoin and how to secure it before you could invest any money on it. After coming to grips with it, then you may consider investing modest sum on it that you can afford to lose with.

Title: Re: New to Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency – Need Guidance Post by: Hyphen(-) on August 25, 2025, 08:52:51 PM As far as I have learned, it is not controlled by any government or person. It is a decentralized coin. People call it digital gold. It allows people to directly transact with each other. Yes, Bitcoin is not been controlled by either government or any authority, that is why it is completely different from other cryptocurrencies and other investments outside crypto because most of these investments like gold outside crypto do involve third party, and one can get fake gold or anything fake, but nothing like fake Bitcoin. However, all these questions you asked are something I believe has been answered by many of the forum members, you can learn from their response because they are all right. Furthermore, you can learn more on your own in this book (http://learnmeabitcoin.com), it is well explanatory and you will get all the basica you will need to know about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general. Title: Re: New to Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency – Need Guidance Post by: Orpichukwu on August 25, 2025, 09:14:51 PM Now I have some questions which I cannot fully understand: Because they consider gold to be the most valuable asset, as bitcoin comes to light, some try to compare both and refer to bitcoin as digital gold even when it's not supposed to be so.- Why is Bitcoin called digital gold? Quote - Does Bitcoin automatically go up and down or is it managed by any company or person? No one controls the price of Bitcoin; it's done by demand, although right now some entities have the holding power to manipulate the market to some extent before it can start picking up on its own. Quote - If I buy Bitcoin, will it be more profitable to hold it for a long time or for a short time? Long-time holders are the ones who enjoy the most profit, and the longer you hold, the higher the price of Bitcoin can go, and how long you can hold is based on how determined you are as well. Quote - As a beginner, what should I do here? Should I slowly start Learn the basis. If you know the basis, you can invest the little you want to start with, and then as time goes on, you can expand your knowledge in the area you want on Bitcoin. Bitcoin is very broad; you can't know everything about it in one day, including the technical aspects of it.learning from here or should I try to invest along with learning? Title: Re: New to Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency – Need Guidance Post by: Zigabel on August 25, 2025, 11:38:07 PM - Why is Bitcoin called digital gold? This is the two questions that got my attention the most nd I wat to attempt them to the best of my knowledge all the times I have had dealings with Bitcoin. The value that is attached to Bitcoin is the main reason it is been referred to as the digital Gold because that is the asset you can liken to Bitcoin outside the digital space. - Does Bitcoin automatically go up and down or is it managed by any company or person? Bitcoin does not automatically go up and down technically, but it does if you are looking at it on the surface. If you understand the economic of demands and supply then you will have the best insight as to the reasons for the upwards and downwards movement of Bitcoin, you may aswell understand the dynamics through that and know that it is not actually just going up and down automatically, it is responding to real life situations independently because it was actually created for human use. Title: Re: New to Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency – Need Guidance Post by: Makus on August 26, 2025, 05:44:15 PM I hope the seniors here will try to help me. Thank you. The beauty about bitcoin is that it can make transaction from every part of the world provided you have an internet connection and you can also make very large amount of transactions without anyone knowing who you actually are. And it is considered digital gold because gold is a valuable asset however they called it that because bitcoin with just few years of existing compared to gold has grown rellay fast in value while it still has the transaction features like gold. Gold is actually a currency and also an asset which stores value and bitcoin also is. The price of bitcoin isn't controlled by any single individual or company, if that was the case I believe the government by now would have had their hands on the project controlling it like their pet. But that's what makes it even interesting, though there are several fact that can affect the worth of bitcoin include world news positive or negative and also the amount of orders that get into the market be ut buy or sell. Title: Re: New to Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency – Need Guidance Post by: alegotardo on August 27, 2025, 01:31:21 AM - Why is Bitcoin called digital gold? Because its scarce, like gold... the maximum that can exist is 21 million units, and no one can change that without mobilizing practically the entire Bitcoin community... unlike fiat money (issued by governments), which can be printed without limit, generating inflation.- Does Bitcoin automatically go up and down or is it managed No company or government controls its value... it depends solely on market supply and demand... the more people buy, the more it rises, and if too many people sell, then it falls... its market is 100% open and therefore volatile.by any company or person? - If I buy Bitcoin, will it be more profitable to hold it for a long Certainly in the long run... to this day, those who held Bitcoin for years have had much better financial results than those who risked discovering the "low" and "high" and sold quickly.time or for a short time? - As a beginner, what should I do here? Should I slowly start Learn about wallets, how to protect your private keys, don't leave them on exchanges or online services... Start small with modest contributions, learn more and contribute more gradually... Read about halving, blockchain, and how to avoid scams... Be patient, because Bitcoin requires knowledge and discipline... Haste is synonymous with loss in this world.learning from here or should I try to invest along with learning? Title: Re: New to Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency – Need Guidance Post by: Peanutswar on August 27, 2025, 12:25:06 PM Bitcoin is like a gold that time past by the value of it becomes valuable but the difference is the phase of the price in gold its took time but in bitcoin tooks just a cycle. Every large company, organization or even a small investor has an impact with the total market movement because theres a demand of it reason it has a fast phase movement of the price now the larger price of buy and sell the higher it impact on the total supply accumulated.
- If I buy Bitcoin, will it be more profitable to hold it for a long time or for a short time? It depends on your risk management or appetite, not all people are succesfuly trades their bitcoin and hold for a long time because of too much happenings other sells due to panic, others satisfied to their profit reason to sell and other keep holding for a really long term. Now if your goal is to flip of course make a short term if your goal is took how many cycles you can make a DCA as you can. |
