Title: Is it possible to time travel?
Post by: Bitcoin Magazine on April 03, 2014, 05:20:15 PM
Say I want to send some with a date of March 2009.  Is this allowable?

The process is quite straightforward.

1) Gain 51% of network hashrate
2) Write whatever the hell you want into the blockchain
3) fail to profit, everybody bailed.

Personally, I'm going to take back a shoebox full of "obsolete" CPUs, for seed money.

I am also wishing to have a time travel machine. With these new asic miners we can mine million coins.

My heart says it will be possible sometime in the future. But my brain says otherwise.

I would pay one million for time travel  :o.I would purchase bitcoin as much as possible and retire young.

if i spend a few thousand of my current BTC to build a time machine, go back to 2009 and kill Satoshi to prevent him from creating Bitcoin, would I still be rich today to invent the time machine?

If you have 1 mill, why dont you invest it and retire now?

Maybe, maybe you will create a paradox that will consume you, maybe there is an alternate universe where this allready happed.
But I dont think you can just take x amount of money and throw it at some scientist and they will invent you a timemachine, thats videogamelogic.

OK then, change of plans. Maybe I won't kill him. Just be nice with him and probably get him a free lunch (pun intended) and tell him how nice BTC was, so he would donate some BTC. Not a big deal for him, because those would be worth pennies at the time.

Every little thing you change in the past will change the future. It would not be the same world.

Na I don't think it works in that case 51% can change the order of transactions but can't backstamp timedates

only expend a number of 1, 000 connected with the current BTC to make an occasion unit, get back to 2009 and wipe out Satoshi in order to avoid him coming from creating Bitcoin, would likely My spouse and i still be abundant nowadays to create enough time unit... Better chance of just going forward in time at a rate relatively slower than the rest of the planet.

And no, time travel isn't possible. I don't care what theoretical physicists say either  :D.

Back in time impossible, forward in time maybe.

According to Albert Einstein
Quote
Time dilation is permitted by Albert Einstein's special and general theories of relativity. These theories state that, relative to a given observer, time passes more slowly for bodies moving quickly relative to that observer, or bodies that are deeper within a gravity well. For example, a clock which is moving relative to the observer will be measured to run slow in that observer's rest frame; as a clock approaches the speed of light it will almost slow to a stop, although it can never quite reach light speed so it will never completely stop. For two clocks moving inertially (not accelerating) relative to one another, this effect is reciprocal, with each clock measuring the other to be ticking slower. However, the symmetry is broken if one clock accelerates, as in the twin paradox where one twin stays on Earth while the other travels into space, turns around (which involves acceleration), and returns—in this case both agree the traveling twin has aged less. General relativity states that time dilation effects also occur if one clock is deeper in a gravity well than the other, with the clock deeper in the well ticking more slowly; this effect must be taken into account when calibrating the clocks on the satellites of the Global Positioning System, and it could lead to significant differences in rates of aging for observers at different distances from a black hole.

seems like you can travel forward and backward too :)

You can't. It's only 'theoretically possible', but not literally and never will be. Hawking says you can't as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronology_protection_conjecture  ;)

Hawking, Hawking - what he knows... :)
1st proof you can time travel - Satoshi Nakamoto did travel from future to our times to give as the Bitcoin.

2nd proof - :) when the night is on have a look at the sky.
Look at the stars, how nice they are - but this is a past.

What you are staring at can possibly not exist anymore.
This is only the light traveling in space... this object - this "star", "planet" or anything else what you see there might be no more an existing object.

:)

Now from another hand - take a swiss watch to a jet plane and travel with this watch while same watch with a same time take for a trip in a car. After same "period" of time - both watches will show different time :) (~few seconds differences)

:)

This is not "impossible" to time travel. It is just relatively hard to do :)

I can, because there isn't. Using a quote doesn't make 'time' magically exist. You can say time exists in the same way god does to some.

Time travel sure will be available once we unlock how to be split into atoms and be reatached without us dying and it wil have 50 times faster then the speed of light.

It is not possible offcorse, but i would be very happy to go back to 2009 and buy some decent amount of BTC or put some BFL miner to mine coins to my wallet :)
I'd stuff my pockets full of usb block eruptors and then go back to 2009.

I doubt if that would work. Since USB miners weren't invented then, you would find your pockets empty and then bang your head on wall (if there is a wall nearby, hopefully you don't find yourself in Sahara desert).

Instead just buy a computer and mine thousands of BTC on your CPU.

Just buy the Bitcoins from the newlibertystandard. Even in 2010, the rate was 1,400 BTC for one dollar.

Rofl that actually might be correct on the bright side at least you know Bitcoin is cheap at that point even if you need to use cash mumble :)
