These are the following countries:
What took my attention however is Pakistan. Because I know that I had recently read a news about Pakistan and bitcoin and I was right. Quote Pakistan is moving ahead with plans to establish a national Bitcoin reserve as part of a broader digital asset strategy. Bilal Bin Saqib, head of the Pakistan Crypto Council, announced the move at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas. AFAIK most country legalize Bitcoin as investment or property asset, which isn't aligned with Satoshi's goal about Bitcoin as P2P money. Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. Post by: purple_sparkles on September 09, 2025, 09:13:34 AM My country, for example, is currently at the stage of passing a law on the legalization of cryptocurrency. Of course, there are no reserve funds in Bitcoin yet. However, there are already bills on how to take money from people who own cryptocurrency. It seems like it would be better if this bill does not pass, because cryptocurrency can already be cashed out without any problems. But if it does pass, 23% would have to be given to the government, which looks more like robbery than improvement or progress.
Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. Post by: pancelot on September 09, 2025, 09:14:24 AM So is your country still against bitcoin? In my country, Indonesia, Bitcoin cannot be used as legal tender. This is stipulated in Bank Indonesia regulations. You can view them here: https://www.bi.go.id/id/publikasi/peraturan/Documents/PBI_191217.pdf. (https://www.bi.go.id/id/publikasi/peraturan/Documents/PBI_191217.pdf.)However, Indonesia also recognizes Bitcoin as a tradable commodity, as it is regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency through the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia. You can also view the regulations here: https://jdih.kemendag.go.id/backendx/image/aturan/27191241_PERMENDAG_NOMOR_99_TAHUN_2018.PDF (https://jdih.kemendag.go.id/backendx/image/aturan/27191241_PERMENDAG_NOMOR_99_TAHUN_2018.PDF) However, in 2025, the Indonesian government shifted oversight of Bitcoin or crypto from Bappebti to the Financial Services Authority (OJK) for its use. Crypto assets are now considered equivalent to securities. Well, from that, I see enormous potential for Indonesia to adopt Bitcoin for legitimate transactions in the future. (This is just my assumption; I could be wrong.) ;) Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. Post by: Dave1 on September 09, 2025, 09:29:26 AM Did you check the date of the article? It looks like it's outdated, as it was last year. So maybe that's where your confusion sets in. Maybe Pakistan have made a U-turn already after the article has been published.
As far as China goes, there are a lot of conflicting news about them having no Bitcoin at all to the second largest hold behind the US. So I wouldn't be putting them in the list. Perhaps they are just trying to be secretive as every country is talking about making Bitcoin as a national reserve. And you can't believed that they won't be into Bitcoin as they are also going into a race with US as far as the biggest Bitcoin holder. Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. Post by: DubemIfedigbo001 on September 09, 2025, 09:29:45 AM I was very interested in Tunisia and I found this
At present, Tunisia does not have any specific laws or penalties pertaining to the use of cryptocurrencies. The absence of regulation makes it difficult for authorities to enforce any punitive measures on users. However, since the government does not officially recognize cryptocurrencies, users may find it challenging to protect their rights or seek legal recourse in case of fraud or other disputes. It is crucial for users to remain cautious and conduct their activities responsibly. https://legalitylens.com/are-cryptocurrencies-legal-in-tunisia/ I can see say that there are no explicit laws signifying that Tunisia and even some of the other countries like China are totally against Bitcoin. It might interest you that there's are still some illegal mining activities going on in China. When Bitcoin was banned in Chhina, Miners didn't totally give up, they went into illegal mining at hidden areas and it's very possible that some law enforcement agents are bribed to sustain the business. Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. I don't quite understand your idea. If mining is prohibited in China, then how do miners living in China mine? Or does this apply to non-residents of the country? It is also good to know that no country can completely ban bitcoin. It can't banned, but it can bring to justice if there are laws adopted prohibiting the use of bitcoin as a means of payment for goods and services (in some countries it already exists) or the purchase\sale, ownership of bitcoin. When in such countries, people are forced to obey these laws (if they don't want to have problems with the law), which in fact becomes equivalent to a ban (bitcoin). Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. Post by: hugeblack on September 09, 2025, 09:36:11 AM Legal lists are often inaccurate, or the authors don't do much research into the details. Therefore, the best way to determine the legal status in a country is to ask the local community or consult a qualified lawyer.
Government policies vary and fluctuate. Some governments are unfriendly to Bitcoin, believing it reduces government oversight, while others prefer to legalize Bitcoin for tax purposes. The more awareness goes on With bitcoin the more most persons will begin to key into the adoption because they begin to see the valuation and the recognition and adoption it is getting on almost a daily bases. more and more countries will later review their prohibition of Bitcoin in times coming and i believe they are definitely goin to join in the adoption of Bitcoin too because hey see the economic value it will be of to their nation. it is more beyond just the use but the store of value which makes it a good store of value is another key aspect these countries will be willing to explore when they see how well Bitcoin fits in economically, it will only take time and this list will be completely outdated as many others on this list will join it the adoption of the asset for the purpose of their economic benefit.Quote Pakistan is moving ahead with plans to establish a national Bitcoin reserve as part of a broader digital asset strategy. (https://dig.watch/updates/pakistan-unveils-national-bitcoin-reserve) Its the Fact that most of these countries wants to have Bitcoin in a reserve just like it once happened that every country strived to have a gold reserve then seeing the economic importance of Gold to the country and the international market at large because time, when it becomes that Bitcoin gains that so much adoption and be in the Reserve of many countries out there, its valuation further gets even higher that even the supply will be affected and that will induce scarcity and further push up the price of Bitcoin since it is a limited supply Asset. Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. Post by: Donneski on September 09, 2025, 10:33:17 AM The situation in my country is kind of similar to what you pointed out with Pakistan. Things don’t stay the same for long. What was once illegal or heavily restricted is now slowly moving toward acceptance. It seems like no country wants to be left behind when others are adopting Bitcoin and blockchain. That’s why I think your closing question is really relevant. “is your country still against Bitcoin?” feels less and less permanent because we have seen how fast governments can change their minds when they realize the benefits they’re missing especially when it has to do with the global financial system.
Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. Bitcoin is also declared illegal in Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Nepal, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. I was surprised to see that India is one of the countries, where Bitcoin is legal. There were lots of forum posts about India having strict anti-crypto regulations years ago. Maybe the Indian government had changed it's position regarding Bitcoin and crypto in general. I found out that Bitcoin mining is declared illegal in Kosovo. Who the hell would start mining BTC in a country like Kosovo, where most of the electricity is being imported(as far as I know)? If the second source states that one of the countries that initially opposed it changed its stance with plans to make Bitcoin a national reserve, this is in keeping with human nature's volatile nature. I guess the list is now outdated. It shows that a country can and will definitely change their stance on bitcoin. So is your country still against bitcoin? My country doesn't legalize Bitcoin as a currency (means of payment), but we can still use Bitcoin as a commodity asset. We can still trade and invest in Bitcoin. If we want to use Bitcoin, we have to exchange it for fiat on an exchange. Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. Although Bitcoin cannot be sold directly in my country, we can use Bitcoin in any work or field by converting it into the local currency of my country through p2p transactions, and there will be no problem. If my country was against Bitcoin, we would not have been able to use Bitcoin like this, maybe we would not have been able to use Bitcoin at all, if we had used it, various administrative problems would have been created. I hope that my country will continue to see Bitcoin the way it is now, but I also hope that my country will give legality one day. I am talking about my Bangladesh here.

Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. Post by: TheUltraElite on September 09, 2025, 12:07:11 PM Like is a subjective thing to say.
The objective thing is to see which countries have the highest punishment for owning or using crypto. That indirectly goes towards those who are taxing the maximum on crypto capital gains or in some other manner. My country has 30% tax on capital gains, which is actually lower than some other countries. I am sure our neighbors will soon realize the importance of crypto and will revolt against their government to start accepting it. Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. Or does this apply to non-residents of the country? If you do not believe, you can browse about it online. China banned bitcoin mining in 2021 or so. Before the ban, China has the highest bitcoin mining hash rate but the ban make mining hash rates in United States to increase and surpass China. Miners also went to Kazakhstan which not long after become the third highest. Mining hash rate in China dropped significantly, maybe they use Tor or VPN but later it get to second highest. Information is everywhere, and a part of being enlightened is knowing how to search for information from the internet. With information you will know if the decision your government has made about bitcoin is from a place of care for the citizens, or from fear of what it can cause to their financial systems. Otherwise this should be categorized as "unknown" and not "illegal"... Anyway locals from those countries are in a better position to give their account of the legal position of BTC there.

The government once declared that Bitcoin can be accepted as mode of payment and there are several projects and seminars about blockchain integration done by the local government. Now one of the representatives submits a bill about having a Bitcoin reserve with an initial target of accumulating 10k BTC which is discuessed in this thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5556303.0). In my own country, bitcoin and altcoins remain legal, but with the rule that they are only used for investment and trading, while being used as a means of payment is completely prohibited. Perhaps this rule will also change as bitcoin regulations develop in countries globally. Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. In all nations, you can hold your bitcoins in your non-custodial wallets and be your own custodian without any issue. Government can not do anything if you store your bitcoins in non-custodial wallets and live with a private and humble life. They only can know you have bitcoins if you announce about it on social media intentionally or just left some traces that allow them to know your identity. It's depends on your practice and whether you take care of privacy and anonymity with your Bitcoin-related practice as well as other activities online. You will surely have issues if you use bitcoins for buying, exchanging with the other people or any company when it is illegal in your country but practically around the world, nations and governments ban Bitcoin usage while locals there still invade government bans and use Bitcoin. In My country where I live is very open to bitcoin. The government and its policies support bitcoin as an investment asset. For me, that is enough because we can freely own bitcoin. Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. Post by: Wake Up on September 09, 2025, 02:53:14 PM In Turkey, we, as a nation, have a very positive view of Bitcoin. Because Bitcoin is the most valuable investment tool that protects us from inflation. Everyone knows this now. I'd say almost everyone has a crypto wallet. However, the government has made absurd decisions regarding cryptocurrencies. They believe that all forms of illicit money are linked to cryptocurrency. That's why they've mandated a disclosure statement for any cryptocurrency deposit or withdrawal. There's no explicit ban, but everything is under control. Therefore, I can say that the independent and free economic transfers that are the essence of cryptocurrency are largely absent in Turkey.

The reason why some countries are not supporting Bitcoin is because they see Bitcoin as something that can aid money laundry in their country so they prevent Bitcoin in their country to avoid this another crime, however this is not the best way to go about it, the best way to go is to accept Bitcoin in your country and then put some regulations in order to avoid some crimes, my country was seriously against bitcoin and other cryptocurrency however as Time goes on they started accepting bitcoin and then put some regulations to avoid crime using Bitcoin and I believe this is what other countries should to do. Yeah, right now there is no country where BTC is a legal tender, but that does not stop people from using BTC as p2p money. As long as BTC is not banned in a country, then it can be used as p2p money, you just need to find a merchant who wants to accept it or just anyone who is ready to receive BTC in exchange for something else.Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. BTC is a coin government or leaders of a country cannot stop people not to have access in a country, because is a decentralized currency you don't need to take permission from government or leaders before you can use the coin for the purpose it was created.
El Salvador is a first country that made BTC legal tender for the whole world that is attracting other countries of the world to see the benefits of making BTC a legal tender in a nation, because people can buy goods and services from any part of the world as long BTC is a legal tender and pay with BTC. What took my attention however is Pakistan. Because I know that I had recently read a news about Pakistan and bitcoin and I was right. The reserve’s size is unclear, but the move follows the US example and shows Pakistan’s growing trust in blockchain. However, after a meeting with one of the founders of a centralized crypto exchange in my country, regulations began to be implemented, and Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are now accepted, although as a tradable commodity asset, they are not yet legal tender. Some time ago, there was a discussion within the government to make Bitcoin a strategic reserve, but there has been no further news, I hope it will actually come to fruition. The firm stance on Bitcoin will naturally soften as state officials become aware of the enormous potential that Bitcoin can generate. There would be those countries that aren’t all that Bitcoin or cryptocurrency friendly but, many are looking to be. No nation wants to be second to what is to come and are gradually making policies that would be more accommodating of a cryptocurrency evolution. In as much as I agree to jwta you've said, there are still countries that are playing on their own intelligence but one thing I know about some policies is just a matter of individual leadership, in this contemporary age if any country isn't accepting innovation like Bitcoin, is either such country leader is afraid of the technology that comes with Bitcoin which is Blockchain technology or there are hidden things they have in mind which we may not know about that's why it is very good that have visionary leaders in power, leaders that has passion for advance technology, mate most president are myopic I would've mentioned some of them but a talk for another day.Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. Well, they barely have a choice now when they can see that the whole world is getting crazy about it. It's not only about other countries accepting Bitcoin and embracing the technology, it's also about their own people who are involved despite the officials having bans or sanctions on the assets and their usage. They know they tried but couldn't stop the force, and now they are forced to change their stance even if they don't like it or don't want to, because you can't convince me that the governments or traditional financial institutions are happy with this change. They may make announcement for legalizing Bitcoin and trying to show support for it, they might convince banks and traditional financial institutions to loosen their restrictions and allow people to do everything freely only with some regulations, but deep down, they don't like it, but they have to do it if they want to keep getting support that they want from their people, because if they keep opposing what people like, they are not going to get any support from them, and they can't afford to do that. The countries that are still against crypto are not doing right with their economy, although we can even say it is pressure from the higher authorities, you know what I mean, in short, from the authorities with whom they have taken loan, or made policies with or some kind of deal. After being curious about the list of countries you shared, I researched which countries are currently open. This may be a bit old news but I think it's good news for those who aren't familiar with it. I lived in the period when it was totally banned, and now I am living in a period where individuals are free to use it if they want to, but if we really want to grow, then we need to reach that legal tender / strategic reserve period because that is how you actually grow.
I mean I do not want much from my nation, I just expect them to keep the seized bitcoins and not sell them, put it in treasury and not move it. If they do that, we would get billions every year, and that would be enough. Maybe not billions, but it surely would be big. So that could be used to pay some of the debt at least, when it's big enough. But mostly just hold it. Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. But if reporters present this Bitcoin well, then hopefully Bitcoin will become legal in our country soon. I think as bitcoin becomes more popular and used by more people, the government may legalize it. But bitcoin becoming a currency is another matter and I think it will never happen. The government will not agree because this will not only affect the government's power but also cause chaos in the economy. Remember, the government agreed to abandon the gold standard over 50 years ago and they have no intention of returning to the gold standard. If they don't want to go back to the gold standard, there's no reason they would agree to use bitcoin, which has a lot in common with the gold standard. In fact, the banks of our country are against Bitcoin, they think that if Bitcoin is legalized in the country, illegal transactions through Bitcoin will increase, money laundering will be easier and various other illegal activities will increase, due to these reasons Bitcoin has been declared illegal in our country. And very few people in our country know about Bitcoin, now instead of time many more people will know about Bitcoin and be interested, maybe then our country's government can think about Bitcoin. And the popularity of Bitcoin is increasing around the world, different countries are accepting Bitcoin, so hopefully one day Bitcoin will be legalized in our country too. As of now, there are not too many countries in the world that ban bitcoin. As far as I know, there are only about 10 countries that still maintain an outright ban on bitcoin. Therefore, I think it won't take long for bitcoin to become legal globally. But adding bitcoin to national reserves is a much bigger deal and I don't think countries around the world will be rolling out this idea anytime soon. Of the countries you mentioned, only El Salvador has bitcoin reserves and Kazakhstan is the latest country to announce it will add bitcoin to its national reserves. However, it should be noted that the legal framework is not 100% complete yet, but their president is pushing for it to be completed soon. Japan and the US do not have strategic bitcoin reserves. The US Strategic Bitcoin Reserve is just an executive order, not an "ACT" so it cannot be called a national reserve. Currently, only three countries have strategic bitcoin reserves, El Salvador, Bhutan, and Kazakhstan. Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. They banned Bitcoin when I was there; I still had been using Bitcoin from there. However, they don't like legalised Bitcoin, which means they are missing the opportunity of Bitcoin advantage. It's not only about Saudi Arabia; those who have banned Bitcoin are stupid. If big countries like the USA are adapting Bitcoin, then why should developing countries ban it? Because they don't have enough knowledge about the technology. They still want to be backdated.
However, though my country isn't on your list, my country also banned Bitcoin. The government are just busy filling their pockets; they don't focus on developing the country. They don't want to make their citizens rich; instead, they want to become the richest person in the world. Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. But it seems that your government only understand the risk, but doesn't know how to use this asset or regulate it in favor to their citizen. To bad that you have bad politician on your country and maybe they are only thinking about enriching theirselves then doesn't want to help people to progress. The reason why most of this countries has beginning to dislike bitcoin is due to the fact that bitcoin is indirectly trying to replace fiat because Alot of people have chosen to move all thier savings into bitcoin, they're not just doing that for any other reason if not to escape inflation but seems that the government is not just seeing it from this perspective. I hope that my country will continue to see Bitcoin the way it is now, but I also hope that my country will give legality one day..

Saudi Arabia, chaina, Tunisian, Pakistan, and Bolivia still consider bitcoin illegal but I recently read some news about Pakistan changing it is stance so that list might already be outdated. However in my country banladesh bitcoin is technically illegal too but it is not completely banned in practice people still use it through P2P trade and convert into local currency without much trouble if the government was truly against it using bitcoin would be nearly impossible but that is not the case I just hope one day it become fully legal here it would make life much easier for everyone who use it . Come on, they have been publicly banning the crypto industry since 2017, and there is no sign that they will lift this ban anytime soon. We don't have to fool ourselves into thinking that they value bitcoin, or that bitcoin is some incredibly important thing that any country should have. Are you wondering why Hong Kong is crypto friendly while China is not? He emphasised that the government’s intention is long term and not driven by market speculation. He stated that once acquired, the Bitcoin would never be sold. The government plans to launch a national Bitcoin wallet and adopt blockchain technologies. The reserve’s size is unclear, but the move follows the US example and shows Pakistan’s growing trust in blockchain. (https://dig.watch/updates/pakistan-unveils-national-bitcoin-reserve) I guess the list is now outdated. It shows that a country can and will definitely change their stance on bitcoin. So is your country still against bitcoin? You are right. The list seems to be outdated. The news about Pakistan looking at the possibilities of keeping bitcoin as a national reserve was from this year i.e. 2025. However, if you look at the investopedia article it is clearly mentioned that it was last updated in mid 2024 which shows that it is a year old article. This also shows how quickly can things change. I hope my country look at the possibilities of keeping a bitcoin strategic reserve too. Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. Pakistan also had a ban earlier, but they are gradually trying to be flexible. However, Tunisia and Bolivia and Saudi Arabia still have Bitcoin banned in these countries and they may declare it legal in the future but it may be a long time. However, although China is currently illegal, they still invest a lot in Bitcoin and they may not be publicly disclosed. However, we saw a news a few days ago where Pakistan planned to invest Bitcoin in their national reserve, but they have not yet fully legalized Bitcoin. Anyway, since these countries are still looking at Bitcoin as illegal at the moment, I think they will definitely legalize Bitcoin someday.

This new plan which includes launching national Bitcoin wallet shows that Pakistan is now joining other countries that are exploring digital assets. This situation shows common problem because cryptocurrency rules change so fast lists on internet can quickly become outdated.

For now , is obvious that not all countries have accepted bitcoin and even the countries that are making use of bitcoin , not everyone in those countries are still using bitcoin. One thing is sure, bitcoin is making progress, the adoption and interest is considerably high and many people are investing in bitcoin today. When bitcoin was initially created just very few people believed in the potential of bitcoin, but today almost the whole world is interested in bitcoin and i believe with the growing interest those that did not believe in bitcoin today will definitely accept it with time. Especially countries who use bitcoin for actual international transactions, those who had ban bitcoin would have a hard time and would miss out on some of these benefits. These are the following countries: Bitcoin was banned in China, it was not completely banned, but last May they imposed new restrictions. The restrictions also prohibit the personal ownership of cryptocurrency. That is, Bitcoin or any cryptocurrency cannot be used as an asset (https://www.binance.com/en/square/post/24961739652153). However, despite such a ban, there is no way to say that Bitcoin is not being holding. Because it can be kept secret, anyone can use it.

Great post here with solid short and sweet answers. I feel like China is such a punk when it comes to bitcoin always banning and unbanning just make up your minds lol. All countries should legalize bitcoin and offer incentives if paying in BTC China banned trading/mining back in 2017 if I'm not mistaken, and nothing has changed since then. I was always surprised that they ever allowed Bitcoin to be present in that country in any way, because communists don't tolerate anything they can't fully control. As for the idea that all countries should legalize Bitcoin, I think there is very little logic in thinking in that direction, because what does legalization actually mean? Satoshi did not seek the approval or consent of any country to create and launch Bitcoin, so why would any of us seek it today? Furthermore, which country will encourage the use of Bitcoin to the detriment of its national currency? Bitcoin is an alternative, not a replacement to existing financial systems. Not only communist but every government is not interested in any financial system which they can't control. Look at current banking system, we are fully dependent on banks to use money which belong to us. Banks can freeze our accounts as and when they required. The governments are fully aware of benefits of Bitcoins that's why they are creating hindrance in it's adoption. But we are free to use our Bitcoin as and when we require and nobody has the control to freeze our Bitcoins as long as there keys are in our hands. I don't think Bitcoin has the capability nor it was designed to replace fiat, it will continue to exist and progress along with fiat. Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. Post by: PremiumcryptoHub on September 15, 2025, 03:35:02 PM It may not be possible to ban Bitcoin completely so I think it is no longer rare for a country to announce that it will legalize Bitcoin because recently, such news has been heard about some Asian countries. You are right that Pakistan has unveiled Bitcoin reserves and in that regard they have attracted everyone's attention. Indeed the head of the country's crypto council is very active in digital assets, as a result he mentioned that officials are preparing to allocate electricity for Bitcoin mining and we've seen them meeting with El Salvador on various contents of Bitcoin. So at present this country is inviting Bitcoin and crypto companies to apply for national licenses.
Pakistan has formally invited international cryptocurrency companies to enter its domestic market by applying for official licenses. The move marks a significant step in the country’s efforts to regulate and expand its growing digital asset ecosystem. The Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) will oversee the licensing process. Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. But maybe I've got it all wrong. And Pakistan is now considering building a Bitcoin reserve after its "crypto czar" meeting in the Bitcoin 2025 conference. All in an attempt to "mimic" the US. Russia is even considering opening its doors to crypto. So while there are a few countries that don't "like" Bitcoin, they will eventually change their mind because of its increasing popularity. Avoiding/ignoring Bitcoin is inevitable these days. I mean, if countries reject BTC, they will miss a huge taxation opportunity. The future lies in regulating the entire crypto/Blockchain industry for the governments' own convenience. Some countries will have stricter laws/regulations, while others will have a softer approach. But none of them will outright reject Bitcoin completely (full blanket ban). At least, that's what I think will happen. Just my two sats ;D Title: Re: Countries that still don’t like bitcoin. And recently, Kazakhstan has taken a positive decision on Bitcoin. Moreover, the remaining 99% of countries have not yet taken any decision on Bitcoin. However, some countries are accepting Bitcoin in their strategic reserves along with dollars or gold. This is certainly a positive thing for Bitcoin and it is expected that Bitcoin will be recognized as one of the main reserve currencies of some countries in the next few years.

But the fact that they have to act like bitcoin doesn’t exist is not a good thing. While China keeps getting stricter and stricter when it comes to people using cryptocurrencies, the other countries keep smarter and smarter just trying to understand cryoto. So you want Chinese citizens to go against their government law? Are you going to save them if they get arrested and prosecuted? It's one thing to be free and freedom of speech but nobody can guarantee you freedom after speech. As much I like Bitcoin, you have to follow these laws of the land, if your government doesn't like Bitcoin you have to comply and stay as they say or do it but show him off about it is fastest way to put yourself in jail. After all Bitcoin is after privacy isn't, what's the use of having Bitcoin and letting the world kmow you have it. There are people that are holding Bitcoin for long time and never one day has anyone know they own Bitcoin, they never allow people know they owned Bitcoin and that's one important benefit of Bitcoin. In China, there is no any law that prohibit people from buying and holding, they don't even know about it but it's a criminal offense for using it to do transaction. A country definitely needs a good ruler to run. Without a good ruler, a country can never be run properly. And to run a country properly, rulers must keep an eye on various things. Like you said, whether a country will allow the launch of cryptocurrency or not depends on the rulers. Now I will say that when a ruler wants to run his country properly, he has to keep an eye on various things. For example, if a country allows the creation of cryptocurrency, they must first consider what percentage of the people in that country are educated and what percentage are illiterate. Because when cryptocurrency is legalized in a country, this issue must be given the most attention because if there is a lack of education in the country, people in that country will use cryptocurrency without knowing it. If they do not invest in proper security and the right method, they will be more damaged later. Therefore, the rulers of the country take advice to give permission after considering all aspects. However, this is just their stance for bitcoin at the moment, and anytime there will always be change of mind and shift of decisions most especially that there are already big countries who start to take leap with bitcoin. Those countries with sanction and restrictions even if you use VPN. It is better to relocate or perhaps quit using Bitcoin. Could you explain this opinion more, please. So far, only one nation has ever had Bitcoin Legal Tender practically and it's El Salvador, and there is no other nations with Bitcoin Legal Tender enforcement in their nations. I don't think Nayib Bukele made Bitcoin Legal Tender in El Salvador because he is greed and he did not do this by himself but needed enough votes in El Salvador Congress too. This policy in El Salvador is a milestone for Bitcoin in its history but the nation did not get too much benefit from it so far. If it picks up, it can be a threat to bitcoin in India. How old is that news? I have been hearing this since 2020, I believe. And about your second point, are you kidding me? So you believe that a cryptocurrency launched by the state bank of a country, being totally regulated and controlled by them, requiring all sorts of approvals and everything for cross-border transactions, can be a threat to Bitcoin which is totally decentralized and can't be controlled, and never asks you for any sort of approval or have your transactions on hold before they get approved unlike the coins that will be greated by the governments because they are not going to make them decentralized, of course. So, it sounds like a joke when you say that it could be a threat to Bitcoin for India, however, you could say that in the sense that the government might force its citizens to use their own cryptocurrency instead of Bitcoin, because that is the only way they can eradicate the use of Bitcoin and force widespread adoption for their own cryptocurrency. If they allow Bitcoin to stay alongside, then those who know the worth of Bitcoin and understand how it's different than the centralized cryptocurrencies, they would never abandon Bitcoin and start using those cryptocurrencies. Of course, it's possible to buy/sell BTC through other means (decentralized exchanges, P2P trading platforms, in-person or face-to-face, etc.). But that comes at the huge risk of getting caught. If you're caught, you can be exposed to fines or even jail time. Such is the case of people living in authoritarian regimes (eg: China, Russia). Luckily for us, many countries who once opposed Bitcoin are now opening their arms to it. I'm certain countries like China, Russia, and Venezuela will change their minds about Bitcoin. We hear news of this almost every week. It might make us forget that not all countries like bitcoin. There are still those who don’t and have not changed their stance when it comes to bitcoin. I saw a list from investopedia.com (https://www.investopedia.com/articles/forex/041515/countries-where-bitcoin-legal-illegal.asp) of countries where bitcoin is illegal.
China is completely against Bitcoin. I think the reason is political. They know that it originated from USA and even the USA government might be behind it. But here's the irony here- despite of their ban, still there are miners in their country and a lot of holders are also Chinese. So how can you explain such situation? |
