It has been so much on me really thinking why our politicians are not really truthful to our society
All they do is lies and lies to their people.
Why all this lie

FEAR OF LOSING ELECTION
I have come to know through some research that politicians lies because they don't want to lose their elections and also to gain more popularity than they ever imagined, and they believed telling the society the truth can cost them their ambition.

GROUP PRESSURE: Politicians lies because of some pressure groups who trait them of supporting another person, they have no options to promise what they can not afford.

GREED a greedy politician can never tell the smallest truth ever, because of money involvement they prefer to have it all by themselves rather than using it for the benefit of the society.
Just wondering why most politicians are like that?

People lie, and we choose one among us to become politicians so they lie too. :D

Their goal is to win the election for that they will go to any extinct with false promises that can never become true and the worst thing is even we also know that they are lying to us but we still got no other option to chose from when both the party is running for the position may not be differ much when it comes to their fake promises.

It's because politics nowadays is all about charisma. While salute to the countries that still have the best elections, although they might not be perfect but they're choosing the rightful people to serve them and not just some popular guy to be elected.

It's in the system already and when you talk about politics, all of them will say that it's because it's "dirty". So, everyone lie even the best leader that you may know.

Firstly a lair will always be a liar, be it a politician or someone else. So I will say most politician are liars by nature, so they brought it to their profession. Politician lie because they just want to tell the people want they want to hear, so they can get their vote and win the election. Sometimes I feel they lie, because the people are not ready for the truth,  that's why they don't vote for those that is telling them the truth, but rather they will vote for those that will make fake promises to them.

Politicians lie in a country where they are not held accountable after elections.

It is because politicians are in positions of power and sadly power will always corrupt people to certain degree, absolute power corrupts absolutely, as someone said once.
So when they first enter their office and start to work for the people, they realize they are now able to do things which are morally and politically questionable and get away with it. That is when they need to start covering up all their faults and lie on order not to lose power.

Once politicians learn to live a life with power, they believe they cannot continue their life without it as common people, so corruption begins.

We all are human beings, so we can never be fully free from selfishness and evil, and those bad characteristics start to grow further when power is reached.

Due to some recent advancement in politics today the society has changed to the extent where  the people doesn't believe mostly in your truth, so the politicians adapt that method by lie to the people they want to rule in other to get into power, sometimes they know that they are lying but because it's a belief system that works for them they keep on doing it, they lie for a purpose not because they don't know, but because it's a system that works for them.

Politicians aren’t always truthful because they want to look good, win votes & keep power. Sometimes they say what people want to hear instead of the full truth. They might also hide things that could hurt their image or career. It’s not that every politician always lies but the system rewards them more for being popular than for being completely honest which makes it hard to trust what they say.

Politics is about control of power and for someone to control he or she will have an element of some influence which may not really represent truth. If you want to be a politician then you must be ready to have some iota of distrust which will paint you as righteous and holy before the people. Almost all politicians has that as protection for their office, person and to reclaim power which is very important to politics. In some countries, you can't go far in politics if you don't know how to lie and make it look real. However, it is the way the society is wired that makes sure happen. A more justice rewarding system with social justice and independent institutions has punishment for deceitful politicians. But the rate is higher where society rewards shenanigans.

Because they value their interests more than anything, they only made an alliance for their interests, so because of this, they will say what you want to hear and like to sugarcoat everything to win the approval of many, so they can stay in power.

It's hard to be a friend to a politician because you do not know if he is honest with you; they only want to use you to advance their interests, so don't expect them to be truthful because it's a trait that they don't want to use, because it's against their interests.

It is not majority but in my country 99% of politicians are not truthful and the causes could be various depend on their goal but mostly they will became so wise because want to win the election and in my opinion why people want to being an the politicians because those people have an ambition want to get wealth because one of quick way how to increases their wealth is to be a politician

To be the winner of election usually the candidates will give fake promises to the citizen which they will says the main reason why they want entering the parlement because they want to improve the prosperity of citizen lives but in fact politicians only care about how to increase their wealth

The heart of man is deceitful generally. Haven't you seen someone who told a lie just to secure a job or an appointment. In the aspect of politicians, they are hungry for power because it comes with some kind of immunity and considering how much most of them also spends during elections, they are afraid of losing their money in the end that is why they make empty and deceitful promises just to buy the heart of voters. Have you ever thought why they make a lot of promises during campaigns? it's a strategy to lure people to vote for them during elections. Another thing is as a result of the amount that most public officers are paid and the resources they take control over which they can even mismanage them without being questioned and what is spoiling politics in the world is bribery and corruption and having a cabal in government such that they will all work in one interest and execute their selfish plans.

I think that public office holder's salaries and other benefits should be reduced and the cost of governance should also be cheap so that people do not become so desperate for power just due to what they stand to gain. I also think that campaigns before elections should be scrapped because it cost a lot, they can just fix a date that the candidates can come live on national tv channels and do a kind of manifesto on why they want to aspire for a particular public office because if these politicians spend less money it will make them not to be too desperate hence they won't also tell lies to make their way. However, human being generally is very manipulative, they will always want to play smart.

Politicians lie to win elections and they do that over and over again without doing half of the things they promised to do for the citizens before being elected, they make cost of living hard for every citizens and when an election is near they start sharing money and little amount of food items and hungry people will fall for it because they have no choice and everyone is trying to survive. Politicians lie because they think only about themselves and their families like we don't matter, politicians lie because they have the power to get away with it and there's no law or rule to hold them accountable for their lies, politicians lie because we the citizens allow them to lie to us.

You will fail as a politician if you are too honest. A politician is merely exploiting the term' public service' to get elected, but the truth is, they are self-serving; they prioritise their own interests.

Honestly, I have not found a politician who is not lying. Their action are very different from what they say in public; they are great manipulators. It's hard to become friends with a politician because they are likely to use you for their own interests.

Why are you calling all politicians liars? Not all are liars. There are some politicians who work for the welfare of the people. The context of your country may allow politicians to be liars. But most politicians probably make false promises. Some politicians show the people at gunpoint that the country is in danger. He has to be elected or his life is at stake. Look at the example of Donald Trump in the US election. Some people think that he staged a drama to kill himself but we have not seen the real truth yet. Politicians have dirty attitudes to attract people's attention and get votes.

But it seems like all politicians have the same thing in common lies even when they are questioned they end up coming up with different excuses to deceive people I have seen this happening so many times does it mean no one is holding them accountable for their actions or something is not adding up?  during elections you see most of them making different promises they go as far as promising things they dn not do but when they win elections they will be reminded but they become too powerful because you can't force them out of the office I have never seen a politician being forced out of the office because of the lies they lied during the election or campaign period do you have any country where they have made a president resign because he couldn't fulfill his promises I would like to know.

Because we respect spin more than truth, lol :P. Honest politicians risk losing support. When we see truth as harsh and polished promises or lies as honey, it is natural for those who are greedy for power to lie or make polished promises to hold on to power. On the other hand, political speech is often protected, so lying is rarely punished by the courts. And where there is no punishment, corruption will be more.

As long as we the people ourselves do not get better, these things will continue, in fact, truth requires a developed economy. And a developed economy is a unicorn. So it is better to be skeptical, demand transparency and push for reforms, only in this the way you can change the math

The game requires them to lie they cant win the game without lying. Any politician is a natural liar, they are always aware before moving in that part of lie so I believe they have been lying all their life before choosing to turn it into a profession. Funny how lying has become a profession in this modern world. Back then, it takes great will to become a leader. And once you become a leader, there is so much work to be done for the people you serve. Not anymore though.

The people have limited options to vote for. Who can you trust unless the one that make promises that fits you.

Sadly a politician not being truthful is gradually becoming a norm in our society today

Politicians lie to get elected into political positions, lie to get projects approved, lie that they have delivered the projects as required and then the circle continues.
 
Most are not even honest to themselves so I believe politicians are not truthful because of the fact that they know true service to the people is not part of their real agenda for power, so telling lies is just to help accomplish their personal goals.

Lack of credibility erases a leader from everyone's memory whenever they step down or their tenure gets completed. Good leaders who stayed to their words like Martin Luther king are still in the mind of the people and are remembered once in every year for the good deeds they did to humanity. Politicians are not the only victims, in offices and companies head of departments don't stay to the truth or keep to their words. And it affects productivity in the company and demoralizes workers aswell.

Politicians not being truthful it's just like an emblem to them. Because they know the people won't fight them. And so they do whatever pleases them.

Because they are corrupt to the bone, aswith they have to do what there money masters order

this days many politicians just lie without shame all because they are so desperate!! they spend a lot of their money during campaign season and later try to recover the money when they get into office. that is why most of their promises are not real!! they are just strategies to win votes. if we reduce the cost of governance and cut down the big salaries and benefits of public officers, i believe less people will have that desperation for power!! becuase if that happens then politics will only attract only those who truly want to serve.

honestly i agree with you on this!!, instead of wasting huge amounts of money on rallies and posters, candidates can just present their plans live on TV or in public debates11 at least that way elections will focus more on ideas and not money.  honestly until voters demand accountability and stop selling their votes, politicians will continue to exploit the system.

The people are now fighting them like Nepal. Politicians are truthful because they battle inferiority complex. Just like a guy who wants to bag a ten over ten girl and battling with inferiority complex he lies because he thinks that’s the only way to get her. Many politicians don’t know what to give to their country and instead of stepping down or improve they just tell more lies.
There are many low live politicians with inferiority complex that they invest much in the lie and personality they show to their country.

Most politicians are money minded and power lovers. So they can say anything to the masses just to be in that position. Most times they are over clouded by money and power which makes them forget the reasons why they are there in the first place. That's why their actions always results to lies.

Politicians are desperate to win elections because that is the only way for them to enter into power, inorder to win they must convince the electorates to vote for them. They will tell the voters anything just to get their votes, many of the things are what they never intend to do. After winning that is when they will unfold their real agendas and most of it is to enrich themselves from the public funds. If the people are reminding them of their election promises they'll keep postponing it until they leave office. I thought that this scams by politicians are only in my country until I began to hear the same complaints from citizens of other countries.

This is mostly common in Africa countries politicians don't fulfill promises they always believed they can't win election if they don't tell lies to the people and due to hardship in the country they accept little pinnut given to them and vote blindly. They have intention to fulfil their promises during their champagne after elected they become greedy and start embezzling the country funds instead of building projects their wants are always insatiable.

Leadership is emulation -  previous leaders have an eye or hand in the current leadership. Nothing changed. Good leaders also try to be like the great leaders of their past soldiers. South African presidents tend to refer back to Nelson Mandela, and the United States has too many great presidents to think of, but they go with Lincoln at most times. There are leaders to be remembered by coming leaders. That's true leadership. When a leader is not forgotten he must have left something unexpected to the people. Some nations never produced leaders who put them on the map. When a leader don't keep to their words other great leaders won't associate with them. Which crawls the strength of the nation.

It kinda annoys me when people put politicians under some form of umbrella and use it for stereotypes.

Politicians aren't always truthful because people in general aren't always truthful. But just because few of them are blatantly lying, that doesn't mean that all politicians would often lie.
It's mostly those politicians that are giving simplistic answers to complex issues (aka populists). Some of them have worked their whole life to make a world a better place, and just because they are now being paid for it, it doesn't make them all opportunists and liars.

Politicians try to come back to power again and again. That is, once elected, they try to be re-elected the next time. They want to satisfy the common people by telling lies. But why they do this mistake because the common people understand truth and falsehood well. The rate of this lie is much higher in underdeveloped countries than in developed countries. They only talk to show it consciously, but in reality they only try to fill their own pockets by committing corruption.

politics is a game, in a game every participate intend to win the game, and they will do everything within their powers to win. Same to politicians, they lied just to remain at the top of the game, every year they lie just to win election, and the gullible voters keep voting for them believing they will change. 

Trusting a politician is like shooting yourself on the leg, especially Africa, they will rather die in power than go handover to the next generation, they lie to stay in power, they kill ,they oppress the people and put fear in them just to milk the treasury of the country.

Politics is a game and you know that games are full of lies, politicians don't like telling truth because they know that when they start saying the truth they will not benefit, out of 100 politicians just 5 can be trusted. Just like in one state because and aid to politician came out and join other citizens to protest about the way the government is treating the people, the aid was sacked which shows that the politicians knows what they are doing. That's why I said we should start holding our politicians accountable for there actions. Not until we start doing so, they will keep on telling lies.

When you always want to say what people want to hear, you will find yourself lying often. Politicians are often in this position that is why they tell so much lies because they lack the boldness to say things the people do not want to hear. The few politicians who are thoroughly honest find it difficult to excel in politics because it is a dirty game.

This is why people should never trust politicians because it is a duty role that requires you to lie often.

I think you are  right because the way politics is set up now, most of them treat it like an investment. They spend crazy amounts during campaigns and once they win, the first thing on their mind is how to recover that money, not how to serve. That’s why a lot of the promises don’t even hold water, they were never real to begin with.

If salaries and benefits weren’t so huge, only those who really want to serve would bother getting into politics. And I agree with you on campaigns too, instead of wasting billions on posters and rallies, why not make debates and live discussions the main focus. That way, voters will judge based on ideas and plans, not on who threw more money around....At the end of the day, if voters keep selling their votes, nothing will change. Politicians will keep playing the same game.

Politicians are not truthful because they are greedy and saying the truth and their intentions during election obviously won't get them the position they want and the only way to get it is to lie to the citizens with fake promises, politics is a game of lie and they are always prepared to lie to anyone just to get what they want. The truth is sometimes always bitter and most people enjoy hearing lies and they will always believe you, politicians lie because of desperation to win against their opponents and making fake promises is the easiest way to achieve it.

Yes, that’s what all the politicians do. The only time they know their society is when they look for the position. They will be doing campaigns before elections by going round the society and making promises that after they’ve been elected, they will do things for the community, but after a while, that they’ve win elections, nobody can see them; they will not even visit those societies again even once.

They know that once they speak true during the campaign, they won’t vote for them. That’s why they lie and share a little amount of money for people in the society so that they will later say that they spent a lot of money during their campaign, so they try to recover it back before they can face the society.

Many politicians can never be sincere with their words. These people called politicians always have the quest to gain power by all means and their is nothing they will not do to get to where they have been anticipating to each. They would not mind, killing people just to get to power and when the get what they are looking for, they would start to misbehave like someone that don't have human sympathy.

Politicians are evil and we should never trust their words because they are based on fallacies. I will rather take the words of a debtor than to listen to what politicians have to say for the people's progress. It is time we need to struggle and make money so that we don't have to rely on the government for our survival.

Politicians are the worst kinds of liars. Why? Because they tell the truth some of the time.

Politicians are owned by the bankers and are controlled through lobbyists telling them believable lies... or from direct bribes, some that come through their investments.

You asked why politician are not truthful? You are funny. The answer is that to be a politician you must have a convincing strategy to do things in your favor, and to do that you must lie to gain people support because the world don't want Truth. That's why guys that has more concubines or girlfriend are liers because they promised what they can't do, and that was why they were able to decieve a lot of women to follow them. Meanwhile truthful men hardly get a girlfriend because they are too straightforward.

Note: I don't in any way Meant that there are no truthful politician but most of them are liers and what ever money is involved usually brings about greed and greed make a man not stand upright because of his desire to own more, politicians can lie to get what they want.

What make people do unthinkable things in the world are mostly this two, which are:
1. Money
2. Power

There is an adage that say for you to know the true identity of a man, you either give him "money" or "power" with this, it will unmask the true identity of who they truly are. And most expecialy in politics. When you are initiated into the system, even if you are truthful before, they must bend you to follow their favour.

I will Chanel my points on a Governor of a state with the reason why most of the politicians are not always truthful, i what to remind those that has forgotten so soon that our state government is been controlled by a particular corrupt sector of government, and the particular sector of government has all the power to select will occupy the Governor seat, and during the campaign they instruct him to promise the youths to vote for him that he will bring jobs opportunities, construction of good roads and provision of pipe born water with steady electricity, with unknowing to the youths that ever the Governor of the state do not have the power to fullfil those promises because of this particular sector of government that selected him to come and occupy that Governorship positions, so that will some of the politicians are likely not truthful and why some of them are not truthful because of there selfish interest even when they have the opportunity to develop the state and empower the youths by creating jobs opportunities and skills to those that are willing to partake on those opportunities by the government but they always fail time to time.

Can't believe you're still asking this question, have you ever imagined why the christians is not advised to engage themselves into politics? Is simply because they survive in telling lies feed people with wrong informations making unfulfilled promises if you're honest in all your dealings you will be disqualified in any thing politics because there are some certain things you're supposed to overlook but due to the fact that you're an honest person you can just decide to voice it out and when you keep doing this frequently then you will be impeach, Though thier are some politicians that disguise themselves to be a honest person but dip down they're not who you think they're.

All politicians from all societies lie, that is a nature with politicians, it is the degree to which these lies are done that separates them from one society to another. Elections periods are the time all politicians lie the most to gather all the support they can get from the citizens. Their real colour and policies intentions are made known when they eventually get to power. For countries with a working accountability structure these lies becomes mild.

The reason why politicians are always lying to people is because they want to win election so they tell you the things you want to hear so you can vote for them and after voting for them they will not do that which they said they will do instead they will do the things they want.
I was thinking about something what if there is a law in every country and the law says that if any politician who is contesting for an election make a promise to people in his manifesto and does not fulfill it he will be sentenced to some years in prisonment I believe if this happens politicians will stop lying and we will now know their true intention before they even get to sit, and with that we can know the right person to vote for.
The lie that politicians tell when they are contesting for election is becoming too much especially in underdeveloped countries and something have to be done about it because this lies are the reasons why the undevelop nation is still underdeveloped till date.

I agree with you that the number of truthful people among politicians is relatively less. Those who lie easily can be very close to the people because they spread false promises among them and run false campaigns in the name of their rival politicians and spread false promises among the people to challenge them. As you said, fear of losing the election. A popular politician will make promises among the people which he will be able to fulfill. Dishonest and lying politicians try to win the hearts of the people by making false promises to challenge that popular politician so when he is elected he forgets the promises.

When a person is selected to a party appointed position from a particular area he is under party pressure to win the election. That is why many times he carries out various irrelevant activities to win. In reality when a person is in power most of the time he forgets the previous promises and is more focused on making money. Because most of the politicians enter politics with the agenda of making money.

Not all politicians are intent liars some can have the interest and intention of meeting up with their proposed promises but get corrupted by their fellow politicians who maybe is or have occupied a higher position an where they only have to conform rather than fighting for what should be rightly done, I know in real time majority has only their personal interest at heart other than the interest of the masses, their are more corrupt politicians than those that are not corrupt, so funny how we know most times that they are lying to us and still give our support, if we can't beat them we join them.

It is not possible to beat them within the system, if we think that the election is completely fair, then we don't know the real story. Politicians can go to any extent to get their votes and that includes any kind of lie or short term benefits that make the people to forget about their long term struggle and just keep them happy until the election.

Being honest itself a chellenge in this world and one who try to be honest with everything they do will look like a joker to others but if someone is doing all kind of illicit activity and made a lot of money then they will be considered as smart and successful people.

It is common among politicians that you cannot tell who is telling the truth and who is lying, which is why we kept voting for the wrong people in the hopes that our problems would be resolved. Politicians believe they can only win elections by lying, and once they have the votes and the victory, they end up breaking all of their promises because some of these promises cannot be fulfilled even if they have opportunity to serve for many years. These are the challenges we face with these politicians: they can spend lavishly during campaigns to convince the masses of their sincerity, but once elected, they're nowhere to be found.

Many politicians lie because of the societies in which they find themselves, most people today do not vote or support honest candidates, but rather candidates with wealth; it is in the blood of politicians today, whenever they spend their wealth, whether for political ambition or any other purpose, they multiply it before considering society. While some are getting back what they spent before or during elections, more requests are coming in, and not all of the requests will be rejected, there are some requests that they most attend to, such as their boys or any other requests they think will be useful for them in the next coming election. Another reason why we see them as a deceiver is that they took loans from individuals or companies that will take them a long time before they will be able to repay. Suppose we choose competent candidates rather than the wealthiest, we will see the necessary improvements in our society.

Just like learning a trade or handwork if you didn’t have that natural talent in you it will be hard for you to make it. so anybody with that zeal of even becoming a politician has already seen that he can sail through. So I will say most politician are liars by nature
They lie by making fake promise especially on election period deceiving people just to achieve more votes

It is becoming a norm or its already a norm? My dear, its a norm nowadays. Especially in countries where there is no but of democratical system of government in existence. Some countries even claim they have adopted and are practicing democracy, yet, they are far from it.

It is just so bad that you come up during campaign and manifesto with prepared lies and jamboring to deceive the people, your own people. Some of these leaders even do this to their own communities where there relatives and immediately family members also suffer the fate others are suffering.

Good leadership is rare, and we hope good leaders take over leadership all over the world. Because these bad ones, greed won't let them leave and stand for the truth and think about the wellbeing of the citizens.

Sincerely, sincerity is gradually dying in our different societies and people just leave there lives with the mindset that lies are normal part of life. You see people lying to cover up there mess and even commit things added to the lies and it is just too bad. Presently, morality is dead and people don't care at all. If people who live normal lives see lying as a normal thing, are our leaders not sopose to live upright and do all they can to fight such lives as it breaks down the society? But he'll No, they live opposite of the expectations form them. Our leaders now are the masterminders and architectural bedrock of lies in our societies.

They lie to protect their name, gain way to power, misleading people and gathering all the public funds to themselves, and there conscience is not pricked at all. The world has gone too and and GREED has been the other of the day in present day leadership.
