Hi all,

Is there a reliable source for wallet.dat files? the page at allprivatekeys that sold them seems to be shot down, any suggestions?

No. Only scammers sell wallet.dat files. I have some magic beans for sale. Interested?

I am confused, do you have a wallet.dat file that you cannot open because you forgot your password or do you want to buy a wallet.dat file and try and crack the password yourself?

If its the former, then search this forum and there are some reputable services you can use. You send them your file and they will use any hints you give them like how many character approx the password was, special characters, numbers, etc and they will try and crack the password. They will take a percentage and send you the rest. Sometimes you got no choice but to just use these services.

If you want to buy a wallet.dat file to try and crack then in my opinion its a scam like the above poster has said. There is a way to trick you into thinking the wallet is full when in fact its empty. They do this just to sell this fake wallet.dat file and even if you break the password, there is nothing inside.

All of these files (if you makea search on the forum you can find a full description) are considered a well known scam.
I would avoid to waste any second trying to "crack it" or even trying to buying it.
Of course you will never find nothing valuable. Anyone trying to selling those it's clearly trying a scam...or just doesn't know the basic of bitcoin

It's a scam. Avoid buying wallet.dat files.
These files are often manipulated :) and bitcoin cannot verify that  ;D the balance you see is fake - real but fake since cannot verify the key !
