Welcome to the 2025 Btalk Pumpkin Carving Contest. I started this contest back in 2022 ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5416347.0 ), it far surpassed my expectations. From Theymos, mods, newbies to Legendary members who I’ve know for many years, everyone got involved in one way or another and was just such a blast.

I picked up a few babies at the store today and you might notice a very American wooden pumpkin in the back,
Saw that today too and it was an easy call to purchase, my fav things about fall are those two pumpkins and football (American football).

I will be doing some traveling over the next month so getting out ahead of this a little in prep. Also because it’s Sunday , that means NFL all day so a quick ANN

Last time I missed the event simply because I couldn't get a pumpkin to use. Those regular pumpkins are quite rare in my locality. I don't know if you probably remember I think I created a thread about if using water melon was possible. Anyways to my suprise a couple months ago (shortly after last year's Halloween) when I visited the supermarket at the veggie section I found some giant pumpkins was really happy but disappointed it was already late to participate.

Anyways this year I hope I'm able to get them at that same supermarket. Hopefully it's gonna be my first pumpkin entry on the forum.

The title says it all, "Bitcointalk Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest". So water melon is definitely out of the question :P. And even if it werent, how are you planning to use it? Because, Imo, it's too soft and fragile and can't really be used for carving...

As for what you said about pumpkins, that's true here too. Where I'm from, I don't really see any large good looking round circular shaped pumpkins. The ones from the OP looks too perfect. Even if I did find one, I might have to go to the town and look through supermarkets to get one (if I'm lucky).

Lastly, did you get any answers? Was watermelon allowed that time?

Only pumpkins are used for carving during Halloween which I think is related to this contest. Some countries may have green pumpkins which can be asked about to be used for the contest or not.

I'll start thinking about another antihero figure for my carving this time, even though Venom never disappoints me on the voting results. Maybe Dr. Doom or Hulk if I get a pumpkin with a slightly greenish flesh. Hopefully, my wife won't forget where she put my carving tools (she cleared my desk that was the last time), or I'll have to skip this year's contest. We'll see. Hahhaaa..

I think time is flying, and we're at the tail end of Bitcoin's 4-year cycle, which should make for a very exciting Bitcoin Pumpkin contest.

You can easily browse all the pumpkin varieties users had last year. I clearly remember there were green ones too. In my country, pumpkin sales are in full swing right now, and there's a variety to suit every taste. However, carving them is quite challenging; it requires not only skill but also considerable strength.
I'm looking forward to seeing our men's creations, and the forum will definitely see a surge in new accounts, which tend to either emerge or be created at this time of year and during the contest. :D

One variety of Nigerian pumpkin, if i don't get the round shaped ones, then this will have to work for the contest.

I cannot remember when i saw pumpkins, perhaps cause of the location. It's really hard to find one, no end date for the contest starting Oct 1st, this will help most persons schedule time and make arrangement for the contest.

OP should have made little time to include rules for the contest.

This will be interesting, lot of members have already been waiting for something like this and making the announcement today seems a milestone acheivement though, but I must confess, getting the desired pumpkin could be rare as in some localized regions where it's not predominantly found, but it's so much interesting that a rigor search a d little cost could get one the desired pumpkin needed, can't wait to see the prizes and when this is fully launched.

A milestone achievement because he made an announcement? From what the op said, he had to make the announcement now cause he's got stuff doing next month so it's best to bring it closer.
 I've not being an avid follower of this contest but the few I've seen have been spectacular, often showcasing how much talent there is in this place.

I almost thought that this pumpkin carving contest will not hold this year after i discovered that one of the events that took place last year namely, the pie baking contest didn't hold this year, but it is good to know that this one will hold. I could remember the beautiful pictures i saw in last years' contest and hoping to see more improvements from participants this year. From my geographical location it is difficult to get a pumpkin but maybe i might luckily see one in the fruit garden at my State, i hope to see one so that i can also partake in the contest. Thanks to you @ChiBitCTy as we wait for the official kick-off of the contest come October 1st which is actually the Independence Day in my country.

The 2024 Pumpkin Carving Contest was sponsored by BC Games and was managed by (icopress)
Last year, 10 contestants won the Bitcoin pumpkin carving contest. And there we were able to see each user's handmade Bitcoin pumpkin carvings which were really interesting and each person's great design. We will see the Bitcoin Pumpkin Carving Contest again in 2025. It will be very interesting to see the great designs created by each contestant.


10 people won the 2024 Bitcoin Pumpkin Carving Contest. Out of 112 contestants, 10 people had extremely sharp pumpkin carving designs.

Since it's Oct 1st, can we consider the contest to have begun? I'll take the first step in this direction. :)



This Pamking Carving Contest can't be completed without the word "Bitcoin" (placed on the bottom of the pumpkin) to match the spirit of the bitcointalk event.

Last year the contest was nice even if it is not the Italian custom to make pumpkins
Anything that can bring the community together is great, in my opinion it helps to build community.

As long as is a pumpkin i believe you are good to go, since ChiBitCTy did not specify any color of pumpkin you have no issues you can use that, in my country we only have green pumpkin too and i have not seen any other color of pumpkin however there may be some other color in some part of my country but I have not seen it, in my region we have only green pumpkin, if I will join this contest I will use the green pumpkin that is located in my region.
I don't even know between the green pumpkin and the other pumpkin which is the best when it comes to taste any one who has tasted both should tell us which is best  ;D.

Pumpkins are back, it is that time of the year again  ;D

I had not participated in the previous years contests therefore will try to make effort for this year. I look forward to looking at your artistic skills. I hope all participants have a lot of fun carving their pumpkins and then showcasing their entries.

I haven't started looking for pumpkins in the area where I work yet. But I'm sure I'll find one. (Maybe.)

However, I'm determined to enter this contest this year. I don't want to miss out on the fun of the season.

I'm not sure if my hands will be skilled enough. Maybe if I carve every day I'll get good at it. But doing it once a year really means having to learn from scratch.  ;D

Perhaps I have already suggested this during discussions at previous Bitcointalk Annual Pumpkin Carving Contests, but even if so, I will repeat it again. :)

If this contest has become a regular feature on this forum, why not give the winner a pumpkin icon as a prize? What would the forum admins say about that?  Technically, it wouldn't be that difficult. At the very least, a temporary badge could be awarded until next year, after which the badge would be awarded to the new winner of the last competition.

I don’t think this is the pumpkin they are talking about but you could go to market to get the exact pumpkin, however reading to the end of the op you would see that October 31st is the ending date of the carving contest.

That picture isn't really a photo of a pumpkin, or should I say it is not a pumpkin or.  I definitely understand why you thought it's a pumpkin because the majority of Nigerians believe that to be a pumpkin or a variety of pumpkin. Although my carving is very simple, the most important thing is that I wanted to participate in this contest. Here's mine...

It turns out that carving a pumpkin is really difficult. I also almost gave up when carving this pumpkin. Because my shoulders felt sore and my head was also dizzy when carving this pumpkin. But I did not give up, and finally I managed to carve this pumpkin, although the results were not 100% in accordance with my expectations. But somehow I am still satisfied with the final result.

I might as well take this initiative in this round, just looked up on previous contest from the link in the OP and with the initiative of aliveNFT (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5512198.msg64638669#msg64638669) while taking out the pictures on the list (FWP) and the concept of the Pizza  presentation by Icopress (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5546534.msg65475708#msg65475708) where the contested works were introduced for voting without any name bias, I’ll like to give a helping hand to this seasons Pumpkin carving contest by combining both strategies and test my learnt from observation skills. Hope it helps and I’ll be borrowing some of your concepts @aliveNFT and @Icopress for sustainability.
While ChiBitCTy might not be entirely active, let’s see the thread to some good work.

        Bitcoin Pumpkin Carving Contest 2025

It good to see the pumpkin contest, I really don’t have that time to craft out what I really wanted but it feels very good to at least participate in this contest. I try to craft out an Halloween pumpkin scary face with a bitcoin logo on it and also using chili pepper as the tongue. I hope we get to see contest like this in the forum. Don’t know what contest will be coming next but I will always try to participate when I can. It the first time of me participating In the pumpkin contest and I will try to keep that up every year. Now I know Carving a pumpkin takes time and effort. I underestimated it before. I started in the evening and finished by now (night). Although the result wasn't quite what I had envisioned, I was proud cause I can finished.  8)

Wow I have never participated in this contest despite how huge it usually is
But seeing the entry so far
I think I'd just humble myself and continue the streak of not participating  :D
Cause how are they doing this and I doubt we have this type of pumpkin in Nigeria.

Mia is just a little girl walking on a lonely road in Pandle Hill, Lancashire. The lonely road is filled with ghost👻 and witches🪄🧹 including trees and darkness witout any shadows. However the witches🧹🪄 and the ghost👻 tried to scare her but she was bold to keep walking toward the hill house because she had promised her friends that she will be coming by 8pm. To cut long story short, the witches🪄🧹 and the ghost👻 attacked her and toke her backpack🎒 and her chocolate🍫 and candy🍭, while they wanted to take her phone📱 they saw her bitcoin wallet BTC on her phone📱, so they returned it back to her because long time ago they had tried to use their dark🌑 magic✨ to stop BitcoinBTC from becoming valuable but they couldn't, so they took all her belongings (both the altcoins and the Fiat currency💵 she had) except her phone that contains her Bitcoin wallet.
Story lesson: Nothing Can Stop The Growth Of Bitcoin.

I ordered my pumpkin online but before it was shipped to Nigeria, it has ripped. I have carved it since but still wondering if I should post it due to the looks. I will post it anyways so the efforts and money doesn't turn to waste.

Pumpkin is rarely grown in my country so I had to order online but before it arrived, it has changed a lot which affected the looks. I have been battling with the thought of post it due to the looks but finally decided to post it today to ensure my money and time did not waste. You need to light up the pumpkin from the inside so that the carved pattern is more visible.

I have disposed the pumpkin and cannot take the pictures. Let me work on getting another pumpkin and repeat the whole thing while taking note of the deadline. Thanks for your advise.

The concept of my carving comes from the movie "Monster. Inc"( Monster university) and the character name is " Mike Wazowski", in the movie he always wanted to be scary, so I decided to carve him out of a pumpkin and make him a real monster ready for Halloween, his story is also based in university and so is mine.

Am I missing something :o? Can you participate in the competition twice? Are you confusing this with the push-ups contest?

I noted that as well while computing the images and usernames. At first, I felt it was an alt account at work but, later noted it was the same user with duplicate entries. Had to randomly pick either of the users entry and the second one was my pick.

I was going to update on the users duplicate entries but, since I wasn’t entirely done with updating the name of participants up to that point, I had to hold.

Hope Lockaco takes note of these entries though, I don’t think that to be compliant with the rules to the contest.

This is my first time joining this amazing pumpkin carving contest, and I can see a lot of members have done their own great works here. That’s what also encouraged me to participating so that I won’t be left behind. Because it’s better to participate in what other members are doing than regret it when those that participate are receiving the benefit for their work, that’s why I feel like using my creativity to think to design a simple pumpkin carving contest.

Haha the face expression is just great, it feels like I have seen this one before but can't think of like who! Maybe the face of bigfoot or Yeti (the one in white color) or a lion anyway, the expression is really great great work and creativity.

Slow and steady wins the race was the moral of the race between Turtle and Rabbit. I am glad you made it like a turtle, not a Rabbit. Because it will win the next races too but slowly.

This is my pumpkin carving for this contest :)
Theme I took pirates as my inspiration from an anime I watched about pirates who are against the system set up by the government. and it's same with bitcoin today which is contrary with the system government that existing now.

Wow all previous works I’ve seen so far have been so amazing and I almost gave up after seeing the incredible works done by previous participants especially because it was very difficult for me to get the pumpkin in this my area and finally found a small unripe one in one of the malls, so o had to give the contest a shot and hope not too late on this since it will be ending on the 31st

THE CONCEPT
The concept centers on the tradition of Halloween, where Bitcoin is mooned, plant renewable energy sources powering mining machines while, core undead users rise from the grave to drop contents on the forum, run nodes and perform mining tasks.


Thanks for the many lessons from this contest, wishing everyone the very best.

THE IDEA: My story is that of a Bitcoin that survives cracks and became a treasure inside. So I carved a classic bitcoin logo on the outside then deliberately cracked the pumpkin gently so as to reveal the inner carved ledger of stacked blocks carved one after the other.

UPDATE

Guys, I want to first off apologize for my lack of being active nearly the entire time of the contest.  I have just gotten back from being overseas for several weeks, and have been dealing with some personal matters that I will not go in to detail on, but the combination of a number of things have led to me being MIA.  What I should have done is appointed someone to help out while I was away/dealing with things. I have not checked this thread or logged in and checked DMs for weeks.  This is not cool and I sincerely apologize.  I will leave a much more complicated full explanation at this.

@Theymos - thanks for posting this in the news per usual, always appreciated!

That said.  I will be starting to go through every post, DM, etc starting now (it's late where I am at so I wont get to a lot of stuff, but will answer all DMs at a min.  

I'm going to make an educated guess there's been some people helping assist with some questions and things of that nature in my absence, having been here long enough, and made so many great connections /friends /forum buddies and members who just help with things in every board because they are just good peoples.  So a thank you ahead of time if this has been the case at all.

VOTING - I am hoping Theymos might be able to lend a hand as he has in the past to help code a more fair voting system (weeding out brand new accounts shill voting and stuff like that, if memory serves me.  If he can not for whatever reason, I will reach out to some Mr Robot friends on here whom might be able to assist in a somewhat similar fashion.  


EXTENSION  - I am going to extend the contest to Nov 3rd 12am Eastern Standard Time (New York time).  I think this is the right thing to do for a number of reasons and will allow for me to get caught up/make replies etc.  I can't see anyone having any issue with this, but if you do, I'm sure you'll let me know lol.

This forum and contest are very special to me and I apologize for absence once again.

Stay tuned for updates (these will be posted in both my reserved post as well as in a new reply to the thread.  Also, I am going to add to the prizes a few physical bitcoin items and try to think of a way to make up for my lack of being around, not sure how, but I'll come up with something.

In honor of the one true coin (and ring!), I carved my Bitcoin pumpkin on this Halloween night —  
which also marks 17 years since Satoshi Nakamoto shared the Bitcoin whitepaper.  

The timing felt perfect: a night of mystery, the birth of an idea,  
and the spirit of HODL glowing bright in orange light. 🧡

• Rocket nose — a nod to HODL to the MOON.  
• Crescent-moon eyes — symbolizing Bitcoin’s endless cycles and comebacks with waning and waxing crescents
• Laser-focused coin eye gaze — the eternal BitCOIN stare that sees through every bear market.

-Update on Voting-

Have spoken with Theymos, he's kindly offered to help with the voting system as we've done in the past.  Copying and pasting most of our convo below describing how voting will work..


I will make the poll per usual as anyone does here on btalk, then when it's over Theymos will post adjusted results with the ineligible votes removed.

For example, this is what was done in the past:

Congratulations to everyone who participated in this Halloween tradition. Surely the fun you had doing so was quite a reward. I hope you got some candy and a few complements along the way. I enjoyed my evening and wish I had a Bitcoin themed pumpkin sitting next to my front door. Perhaps next year.

You could have had mine, right here…, I guess it would have deteriorated before it gets shipped to you maybe, lol…


Surprisingly, the pumpkin I got for this seasons contest is still very okay and have shown very little sign of decay unlike the one I got last year. It’s still very rigid and can be worked on even. That’s rightly a quality I should look out for when getting my pumpkin for this contest.

Although, my choice of pumpkin for this season was design inspired but, the size and thickness this have got meant longevity and I’ll hold on to that note.

Everyone - great job ! The contest of course now has officially ended. I will be working on gathering everything together, making sure everyone who posted qualifies and then in a few days Theymos and I will put out a poll for voting.

Thanks to those who participated, helped etc! This event is near and dear to me and I love how much everyone else appreciates it! Hopefully next year life won’t be so crazy for me and I’ll have more time to focus on it (I can’t imagine this not being the case).

Edit - one last thing! Try and not waste your pumpkins if possible! Eat your seeds, make soup ( I had pumpkin soup while over seas and it was fantastic!!). I would love to see photos of anyone doing as such!

You made a good point about pumpkin seeds, which are high in fiber, magnesium, and zinc, which are also high in omega-3s. Many people call pumpkin seeds a superfood based on the nutritional value they contain.
Pumpkin seeds have extraordinary nutritional value and if you know the nutritional value of pumpkin seeds well, then never underestimate them. However, after participating in the competition a long time ago, I didn't throw away the pumpkin seeds, but rather dried them in the sun and made them edible.

The contest was supposed to last until the 31st , but the pumpkin is pretty. Has that horror movie from the 80s vibe to it.

Didn’t get to participate this year, been so busy lately to make out time for this but from what i have seen from most participants, some of you should consider art or carving a new career  8)

It’s really amazing jobs here and there, but some too really need to improve!!!
