The most cost effective solution so far is to use GTX570 GPU's. Each GTX570, which can be obtained for as little as $100, produces about 1.5X the shares/blocks as 2x E5-2670 processors combined.

I've got some crazy metric I developed. Surely that instills confidence. Anyways for 10-chains and 10 sieve extensions and a sieve size of 1 million. Metric is 5.75 * 1 million * SPS. This is number of candidates searched per second. Some stats:

1.15B CPS - dual xeon e5-2670
1.75B CPS - GTX570
2.18B CPS - GTX580
1.50B CPS - Single GPU of GTX590. Can't get both to work for some reason. Believed to be problem with nvidia opencl.
