Title: Ledger Nano X draining battery Post by: Polkat on November 05, 2025, 04:19:56 PM My friend and I have several Ledger Nano X devices, some of which were purchased recently. After the latest updates, the battery completely discharges within a month, even if the wallet is not used.
Similar posts can be found on Reddit, where a user reports that his new Ledger Nano X discharges by about 3% per day: https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/1lta9wq/ledger_nano_x_draining_battery/ It seems that Ledger is doing this on purpose to get users to switch to their new wallets with E-INK displays. Has anyone encountered this problem with the nano X model? Welcome to ledger hell :PI already wrote many times about ledger nano X as one of the worst ledger devices, and all that because of low quality batteries. You can find more information about that in this topic: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5358741.0 All lithium batteries needs to be charged periodically, and no full emptied, but you can try to reset device. I would suggest to stop using ledger or any other closed source hardware wallets, there are much better open source alternatives. You describe cases where the battery in the wallet does not charge due to over-discharge or poor contact. I am describing a slightly different reason, where fully functional wallets, which previously held a charge for six months after a full charge, begin to completely discharge within a month due to an update to new firmware. It seems that the wallets do not turn off, but go into sleep mode with minimal power consumption, and Ledger does this deliberately, in my opinion, to force users to switch to new models. In all the wallets I checked, the battery charges normally in about 2 hours to 99%. So the problem is clearly not with the battery. If the latest firmware update is affecting all of the Nano X devices that you and your friend have, it has to be deliberate [unfortunately, you can't downgrade the firmware on your devices].... It seems that Ledger is doing this on purpose to get users to switch to their new wallets with E-INK displays. - FWIW, reputable phone brands (e.g., Samsung and Apple) occasionally do such things, so I wouldn't be surprised if a HW brand with a bad reputation does it as well (Ledger no longer surprises me)! When you have already "invested well" in new devices, then you must consider Recovery, which will share your seed with super reliable companies, and if the authorities ask Ledger for your seed, they will serve it on a silver platter. The battery is the least of the problems in the whole story. I also use Trezor wallets; I'm forced to use Ledger wallets only when the coins I need aren't supported by the Trezor wallet. I also use Trezor wallets; I'm forced to use Ledger wallets only when the coins I need aren't supported by the Trezor wallet. It's true Ledger has an easy interface and supports more coins than Trezor. But Trezor is adding more coins as well, and tokens would be stored on the supported chain. You may take a deeper look at supported chains and coins. I am also using both Ledger and Trezor. Due to the closed source of Ledger, I don't store a big amount of funds in Ledger, but I use Trezor for big funds since it's open source and we can trust it. So better use Trezor. I don't think you are buying every coin that Trezor doesn't support, but for tokens you can store them there, like ERC20 or BSC. If I come to the topic, then I have similar issues. Though the device shows it has a battery charge, the device keeps shutting down. After connecting with the charger, then I can use it. It does work again after charging for some time, but it will shut down anytime. I have faced issues; even my Ledger shut down during a transaction. Then I was forced to use Trezor, and now I also feel comfortable with Trezor. So yes, this is pretty annoying if we talk about the Ledger Nano X battery service. I hadn't expected such bad experiences from Ledger. Title: Re: Ledger Nano X draining battery Post by: satscraper on November 07, 2025, 07:59:08 AM If I come to the topic, then I have similar issues. I don't have Ledger Nano X, but this and similar problems are traditionally associated with the behavior of low-capacity batteries being charged with improper chargers. The Ledger Nano X do has low-capacity Li-ion battery that doesn't tolerate high charging currents. So, to be on the safe side, it's better to charge such batteries via computer's USB port. That said, if the battery is already faulty, nothing will restore it to normal functioning. It seems that Ledger only has the advantage of supporting any garbage that appears in the crypto market. Besides, although I won't say that Trezor is bad HW (I have it myself), anything that requires the internet to function is a risk. I may be wrong, but it seems to me that there is some air-gapped HW that supports multiple coins/tokens? I don't have Ledger Nano X, but this and similar problems are traditionally associated with the behavior of low-capacity batteries being charged with improper chargers. ~snip~ I have it, but I bought it long before the battery problems and all that stuff started happening. Even after months of non-use, the battery loses less than 10%. These geniuses at Ledger have a natural tendency to screw up everything they produce. |
