Title: Crypto exchanges urls are no more blacklisted
Post by: sokani on November 15, 2025, 12:17:27 PM
As some of us may already know, crypto exchange URLs were blacklisted during the Nigerian government saga with Binance. Their websites cannot be accessed through web browsers but only via their mobile applications. A few moments ago, I was just playing around, and I decided to visit the Binance website, and it opened up. I also tried other crypto exchange websites like Bybit, Bitget, and MEXC, and they all opened up.

Code:
https://www.binance.com/
https://www.bybit.com/en/
https://www.bitgetapp.com/
https://www.mexc.com/

It seems our ISPs have lifted the restrictions on crypto exchanges.

They have been removed from the blacklist. I have also tried some exchanges URLs and all were going through as it was before the ban. It is nice to see this but I did not like how the government tackled the situation. Still it is like our government had no choice than to stop the persuasion. If they get it right, the exchanges supposed to be paying tax by now.

Tinubu and tax are siamese twins. He's looking for every avenue to generate money, so maybe there's a plan in the offing to start taxing crypto exchanges.

Speaking about our government, they want us to be paying PIT from next year, and they are still frustrating our hustle. I can't imagine what it has been like for the professional traders. Most exchanges do not allow IPs from unknown locations, so they cannot use VPNs, and trading on mobile applications can be cumbersome. I'm glad sense finally dawned on the government and they did the right thing. I believed the professional traders will be the ones to celebrate the IP lifting the most.

Business didn't go as planned for them, haha 😅.

Looking at how the CBN banned went, it's better not to rely on what they are doing rather focusing on having control of your funds. The regulations of cryptocurrency direction in Nigeria are still uncertain, since they are looking for the best way to get more money.

I’m all for the exchanges paying taxes to the government. They pay taxes in other countries so why not Nigeria. It’s just disappointing that the money won’t go back into the country’s economy rather it will be spent elsewhere by politicians.

Same but there are ways things needs to be done and the approach used by our government wasn't anything rational to be honest, looking at other countries we could see that.

We are among the top adopters of cryptocurrency and this is very much enough reason these exchanges will want to remain with us but when you try to act do high and mighty, thinking of early reap off, they often not want that
Taxes works well and will favor the economy, but as they shown any signs of movement towards that with any top global exchanges? I doubt.

I still wonder why the government thought the best way to fix fiat inflation was to ban crypto. Literally they should be working on balancing their exports and imports instead because they are a major part of what's causing the dollar to gain strength over the Naira. Was the ban necessary? Not really since the aim itself was vague.

Shortly after that ban I think some people made use of VPN then to try to browse binance especially but I don't really know how well it all went.

The Nigerian government blacklisted their urls so that we don’t get access to them, but we were still able to access them through their apps which were working perfectly for us all. We never felt any of this clamp down on them because we were still getting to use their services and only the p2p was the problem to most users that they can’t access using their apps. The Nigerian government should impose tax on them like they pay to other countries. After doing that, they can allow us have full access to any of their services especially the p2p they banned long time ago.

The government of the day is more about generating funds for their treasury, always on the look out for watin fit Dey taxable or where them feel say, money Dey and e no Dey squeezed enough for them to get these funds for the government purse. Na why when e comes to cryptocurrency matter way them still Dey discover many many things about, them rather go with a hammer head before even trying to understand it.

Now way be say, nations around the world Dey talk about regulations and possible adoption for varying purposes, having to kick these url from their blacklist is just a way to go towards acceptance and working out better terms for operation.

You can use a VPN to access your exchange account in a situation where you travelled out of the country. All you need to do is get a VPN, select a Nigerian IP address and access your account.

However, in a situation where the IP address was blacklisted by our ISPs. Even when you use Nigerian IP address with VPN, it won't work and you cannot use any other country's IP address to access your account because most exchanges are designed with safeguard security protocols to deny you access. I do make use of VPN, and sometimes, I do forget to turn off my VPN when I want to access my exchange account. I won't be allowed access, and I would receive a mail from the exchange that someone is trying to access my account from an unknown location. Also, I can confirm that Binance, Bybit and Bitget have these security protocols in place.
