This fight will be held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on January 10, 2026 Subriel Matias (WBC Junior Welterweight Champion) record: https://boxrec.com/en/box-pro/749669 Dalton Smith (Rank 1 WBC Junior Welterweight) record: https://boxrec.com/en/box-pro/850314 https://talkimg.com/images/2025/12/12/UTcBIg.png What do you guys think of this upcoming fight? You think Smith could outpower Matias and take that title? Smith seems a good challenger as he's got a perfect record of 18 KO with zero losses, yet. ;D Source: https://www.boxingscene.com/events/subriel-matias-vs-dalton-smith https://www.boxingscene.com/rankings Title: Re: [BOXING] Subriel Matias vs Dalton Smith - Jan. 10 Post by: FinneysTrueVision on December 13, 2025, 08:47:04 AM Matias tested positive for the same substance that Ryan Garcia was banned for, but he ended up being below the legal threshold so the fight will still happen. This has raised some doubts over Matias.
Focusing on the actual fight, the odds are very close, with Matias a slight favorite. Matias is a very powerful puncher, but he doesn’t have much else. Both of his losses have been to underdogs who were able to exploit his flaws. If Smith has been studying his opponent, he can develop the correct game plan to come out victorious. I suspect he will try to outbox Matias early on and then apply pressure when Matias, who doesn’t have the best stamina, starts to fade. Thanks for that info, I never heard of that news that Matias was caught with a ban substance, albeit just a small dose. But still he has been caught so for sure there will be doubts on him moving forward. But I'm not sure if the substance could really affect his power. He is known to be a knockout puncher before and he had a lot of hype behind his name until someone upset him in his native country. So this could be one of his comeback trail and so hopefully he can have his win and via knockout so his hype train will continue to run. This has raised some doubts over Matias. AFAIK, that substance was found on his supplements, and that doping wasn't intentional, at least that's what WBC is saying. Maybe it got mixed with his supplements? Who knows. :DBut I'm not sure if the substance could really affect his power. That substance (Ostarine) was on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) banned list. A quick Google search shows that it increases body mass and helps maintain it even during a calorie deficit. It also helps improve bone density. So, yes, it has beneficial effects on those who take it and might alter the course of the fight. But, since the dosage was small (per the recent reports), my guess is that it won't affect the upcoming fight between these two.Title: Re: [BOXING] Subriel Matias vs Dalton Smith - Jan. 10 Post by: FinneysTrueVision on December 14, 2025, 06:48:51 AM AFAIK, that substance was found on his supplements, and that doping wasn't intentional, at least that's what WBC is saying. Maybe it got mixed with his supplements? Who knows. :D Accidental ingestion is always the WBC’s default position. They said the same thing about Canelo, Oscar Valdez, Luis Nery, Francisco Rodriguez and Alycia Baumgardner when they tested positive. You have to suspend disbelief to take the WBC’s word that every single one of their champions is always innocent. Title: Re: [BOXING] Subriel Matias vs Dalton Smith - Jan. 10 Post by: cryptoaddictchie on December 14, 2025, 07:27:03 AM For me this is a classic pressure fighter vs. technician matchup kind of game. Matías brings relentless volume, physicality, and proven durability at world level, while Smith’s undefeated record and knockout ratio show he has timing and power, but the big question there is whether he can handle Matías pace and intensity over championship rounds. If Smith can control distance and stay disciplined early he has a chance, but if Matías drags him into deep waters, experience may decide it. Well I'd love to see this match anyway. Next month is so exciting.

Because from what I’m seeing here -- https://www.proboxingodds.com/fighters/Subriel-Matias-4492The odds aren’t really that close. Matias -150 Smith +130 I guess I’d still bet on Matias here despite the news you mentioned. I’m not really aware of the ED issue you’re talking about, but since Matias is more popular than Smith, that makes me think he still takes this fight. There is only one other fight on their sportsbook with closer odds. I’m not saying it’s a 50-50 fight, but Smith looks like a live underdog. I’m leaning towards Matias keeping his title. Smith has a path to victory if he doesn’t break under pressure, but Matias has a very imposing style and will have the audience’s support. If it’s close, the judges will give it to Matias. However, it’s worth noting that these two fights take place in the 140‑lb division, where popular names like Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia, Teofimo Lopez, and Shakur Stevenson also compete. Based on the records, I’m more inclined to believe Subriel Matias will successfully defend his title as he looks the power puncher of the two. |
