Title: AMD HBM technology, is it going to help keep GPU's relevant in Scrypt Mining?
Post by: SpeedDemon13 on April 04, 2014, 05:30:09 AM
So, AMD is going to bring out HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) technology? In theory it sounds great, but you know how theory isn't event close to actual results in most cases.

Nope. ASICs are still going to dominate.

Obviously, ASIC's are design to be single application efficient. GPU's primary intent is to game, graphic content creation(ie Photoshop, Premiere, etc.), 3D modeling and play HD content.

Oh right, and that's why no one bothered to mine with GPUs, ever.  And any technology that would further improve on existing GPU tech would certainly have absolutely no impact on mining as it exists today.  Or...monkeys might fly out my butt.

This is AMD attempt to make GPU mining viable I guess. I know Nvidia is working on something similar. Just wait and see approach.

Monkeys flying out of buttholes sounds cool...LMFAO!!!...Bruce Almighty-ish....LOL

AMD have more money to throw at GPU Mining R&D, than any other mining hardware buisness will ever have.

if they wanted to they could develop a beast of a mining gpu, just depends whever they think its worth it or not

I seriously wonder why they don't. They could make a huge business out of it and provide somewhat legitimacy to the mining industry by naming a card specially for mining with no video output ports and eventually standalone cards.

They eventually will. It's not only very interesting for miners, an extended/custom instruction set on the GPUs would also be very interesting for scientific calculations in general.

Imagine a 3000 core GPU running custom instructions as efficiently as an ASIC.
I'd love to see that happening, the ASIC mob would run amok.

And these cards would be available after announcement.
You wouldn't have to prepay some shady shotgun shack company, without knowing if you ever receive your ASICs at all.

That would actually be the best solution to get rid of the ASIC MOB.

Well, these GPU will be good for Scrypt-N algo mining.

The battle for scrypt is over.
