Title: What will money and currency be like in 10 years or 25 years?
Post by: Crindon on April 04, 2014, 04:42:28 PM
What will money and currency be like in 10 or 25 years? How about in 50 years?

I doubt many people will still carry around hard cash in 10 years.

$1000 will be like $10.

Gold, silver and crypto, buy and HODL.  Do not allow your hands to become weak, food, water, things of true wealth, aquire these.

Thats what we said something about in 2012 before in the early 90`s. Things are still the same though just some things are automated.

But heck, who knows.

Google X projects will allow access to the internet from anywhere in the world.

People will have all sorts of smart devices on their body, either attached, strapped on, or in their pockets. These can carry digital money.

every electronic device knows who we are, and can read our minds :o

First of all, probably hyperinflation unless we start going backed to being backed by something that is actually worth it. IDK if its possible for US to pay off there debt in 10-25 years, and it seems that USD will just keep getting inflated. But like payment systems wise, I hope that we can get rid of physical cash, and like using a gestured base system,  such as with a NFC ring or some sorts, maybe eye scanning to confirm? Hopefully payment systems has convenient biometric security, as that seems to be the way to go.

I'm pretty sure NFC would improve to such a range as bluetooth is currently.
Google glasses already seem awesome , I could imagine them scanning your eye , converting that into a specific code and sending it into the machine.

The currency will definitely be digital and wirelessly transfered , but most likely not Bitcoin.

I think hard cash will become extinct during this decade itself. Credit Cards or Crypto Currency will replace the hard cash.

Yeah, there are just far too many disadvantages to paper money. I'm sure some form of digital currency will be prevelant within our lifetime.

Mobile payments with some sort of bio security features I'm sure will come sooner. Hopefully that'll include paying in Bitcoin too.

for me, i still think money will remain majorly in paper and coin form, unless all the governments switch to digital. Simplicity beats everything

I'd say digital money is simpler. Most money transacted is already digital anyway. And paper/coin currency will only become easier to counterfeit with better technology.

Indeed they are simpler, but the bitcoin network, protocol and actual 'coin' itself is very confusing to the mainstream public. Maybe in the next half century we may see the adoption of bitcoin into mainstream public.

It doesn't have to be Bitcoin, but the fiat banking systems are confusing to most people nor do they understand it. Paying for something with an app would be quite simple.

You could use some sort of card just like a debit or credit, but what's wrong with using a phone? Most people carry them.

Bitcoin could really take off in developing countries. There's already some sort of mobile payment system in some of them.

Yeah. I'm sure there are other forms of payment that we're unaware of too.

I think that will be almost the same,no matter of what new way to pay will appear, people won't give up so easily paying with cash .

I am afraid. I am very afraid of that there will be only virtual currency in the future. It will be bad thing, imagine ONE big power surge, hackers attack, some sort of accident, corruption and BAM! You are nothing without power, you can't buy anything, you are basically nothing without without technology... This is really something that could happen, think about it.

Why could that not happen with our current system? Corruption really can't do anything to a decentralised network. There'll always be alternative means of power as well.

The question here is what form of cash will we use by then..! I'm not talking about 10-15 years from now, because I don't think it will change so drastically in in that time from but maybe after 50-100 years..!
